View 1 RepliesI've installed windows 7 some days ago. This is really great. But I am facing one problem. My pc takes Restart after 1 hour/1.5 hours continuously.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI typically use Google Chrome for browsing, but I also have Firefox installed. I rarely use IE but that seems to be affected as well. Basically, after I've been using the computer for a few hours, all network access seems to die until I restart my computer. Furthermore, I sometimes cannot terminate all of the chrome.exe processes (an access denied error pops up from the task manager), and once the network has died, Firefox will not run (the process does appear on task manager but no window opens). Other network-dependent services also fail. The router I am connected to is working throughout this as tested by another computer and WiFi devices. This problem goes away with a restart 100% of the time. So far I have run scans with Security Essentials, Malwarebytes, and AVG. I was concerned there may have been a conflict between these so I have uninstalled AVG but the problem persists. I have uninstalled Chrome and Firefox completely (using Revo) and reinstalled but the problem persists. Unfortunately my oldest System Restore point is only about a week old and the problem has been happening for longer than that. I have disabled all extensions in Chrome but the problem does not seem to be isolated to one browser.
Here is my system info:

Lately, after about 2 hours use, it begins to get slower and slower until in the end it freezes.I have de fragged, run virus scans and done a registry cleaner etc, but it make no difference. It does not appear to be getting over heated as the fan kicks in and out, not permanently running.
View 15 Replies View RelatedI have two older hard drives, both 120G. I want to put one in a friend's computer who is running out of space with his old 40G.I bought both 120G at the same time and put one in my laptop and used the other as a USB backup. Sooo, the laptop one has 5 years use on it, maybe 25,000-hours, the other maybe 50 hours.Given the drives are both S.M.A.R.T. technology, it has occurred that I might be able check the hours and give my friend the 50-hour one and keep the other for back ups.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a new HP dv6 laptop. The operating system is windows 7, 64 bit. I've had it less than a week. The power option I have set on it (default) calls for the system to go into the sleep mode after 20 minutes(closing the lid). I don't even see any option available to select that would shut the computer down after a certain time. The problem is, after having not used the laptop for approx. 12-14 hours, when I am ready to use it again, it has shut itself down. I don't know why it doesn't stay in the sleep mode.Any ideas why the laptop is shutting down? It's not overheating because I keep it in a cool room and the air flow around it is not restricted.
My Windows 7 hung itsself up this morning. I had to use the power button to restart. I chose Safe Mode. I now have the screen:
Start up repair. Start up repair is checking your system for problems Attemping Might take an hour
That was 8 hours ago and it is still running. I pressed the Cance button and got the answer "Cannot cancel"
Previous Windows OS's let me quickly and easily restore to a time that I wanted, however what I'm getting with 7 is "no restore points have been created". Hmmm. I've searched this forum for an explanation that makes sense to me to no avail; not yet ready to admit to stupidity but will acknowledge that I'm past middle age and well into frustration.
I'm in safe mode now; in regular mode my laptop has slowed to the point of only allowing my desktop to appear & I can't get anything else to work. Every time I click on something that infernal little blue donut just keeps running and running.

View 5 Replies View RelatedAll of a sudden the other night my computer started to freeze/lock up every 1.5 to 2 hours, no matter what I'm doing on it. If I reboot, then just leave it, when I come back a few hours later it's totally locked up and I have to hold the power button down to reboot. If I use it for two hours, say playing a game, eventually the game will freeze up and the same thing happens, I have to power cycle it.
I noticed a couple times that it seems to be explorer.exe that's in a hung state. If I hover my mouse over the taskbar it's just the blue circle spinning. Sometimes I'm able to open task manager (CTRL-ALT-ESC) but that quickly results in it just displaying a blank white window.
- I haven't made any recent changes to my system, hardware or software.
- I've ran a memtest86+ for over 4 hours and no errors.
- I've tried uninstalling a whole crapload of software, including my video card drivers, to no avail.
- I've updated my SSD's firmware to the latest version.
Checking Windows event logs yields only this error but there are lots of them going back to well before this whole freezing issue started: - The driver detected a controller error on DeviceHarddisk5DR7.
There is also this error only once in the last 3 days for which this problem has been occurring:
- The program Explorer.EXE version 6.1.7600.16768 stopped interacting with Windows and was closed.
How I can schedule my laptop to shutdown every 2 hours?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am having trouble with a friends computer... his computer was becoming unresponsive with up to an hour start up times before he was able to use it. We tried to run anti-virus software but wouldn't complete any scans.
We decided to go ahead and save all the files he needed and do a complete system recovery f11 (format hard drives back to factory settings) when started it takes about an hour or two and hangs up at 9% and will go no further. Left it overnight to no avail.
I've been getting this for over 3-4 months now.. and I have done a system restore twice and it's not helping.. the BSOD still lives. The BSOD occurs in a random fashion, even during browsing the internet with just a few tabs, sometimes during idle (happened a few times when I leave home and left my laptop idle)I notice that every time the BSOD is about to appear, my laptop fan goes all noisy. Not sure if that actually has anything to do with it.I've even tried running on Ubuntu and got crashes too.. although with no description.. it just froze. Also when I tried to run perfmon /report, I get an error when trying to generate a report saying:"An error occured while attempting to generate the report. The wait for the report generation tool to finish has timed out. "

I'm running a Chkdsk/r on my WIndows 7 laptop. The HDD in it has size of about 500 gigabytes, and 400 gigabytes have been used. There's no symptoms of failing recently, but I've got a feeling that it must be checked. So I ran Chkdsk/r about more than 24 hours ago. When it reached stage 4 of 5 at about 36 percent (316831 of 586736 files processed),it seem to be stuck. and It has been the same state for about 30 hours now. But the harddisk is seem to be still active as I can still hear it running. And no, there're no weird voices that came from the harddisk. Is it normal judging by the size of my HDD and the size of its usage ?Should I stop it or let it continue ?P.S. : the chkdsk is running on boot?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI am strugling with frequent BSOD.After a few hours of playing (FPS) at the next boot I get BSOD, corrupt registry, memory management error, etc, various stop codes. Windows repair cant help. What usually helps is: i.e: remove one stick of memory (no matter which one) or adjust memory timing (no matter which direction), or reload previous system image. After Windows 7 is started again everything is fine, I can put back the memory stick and I can play again hours.Sometimes, if I let system repairs to do its job then at the end I get a lot of corrupted files a lot of chkdsk fix, then some application does not start because of memory address violation error the end is always a system image reload.I tested the memories with memtest86+ (4 hours) and nothing (if everything was ok before) but when the BSOD starts I got errors if both stick in it, no errors with single stick.
