In XP, you could assign custom names to a group of photos when importing, but i can't seem to do that in 7. For instance i could tell it Name: "08.09.2009" and it would name each photo 08.09.2009 001, 08.09.2009 002, etc... Why would they make it so you can only label your photos a few ways. Any way to edit a system file to have more options show up?

Until last week I used the operatating system windows Vista and accessed my e-mails via outlook express. I transfered a copy of my e-mails onto an external hard drive (saved as EML files). I had my computer cleared up and Windows 7 installed instead. Is there anyway that I can now put the e-mail files into the windows 7 Outlook so I can read them. I can only open the eml files in notepad at the moment which isn't very good. I have managed to import my contacts into windows outlook but I cannot import the e-mails.

Last night, early hours of this morning I undertook the herculean task of tidying up my favorite folder in internet explorer on my XP Home PC, I then exported the lot to a folder on my XP desk top. I then transfered that folder to a back up drive, then transfered it to my new Win 7 desk top on another PC.
So now I have this favorites folder but can't seem to find a way of transferring/exporting it contents into Win 7 favorites, how do I achieve this please?

I just created 3 new accounts in Outlook 2010 and set one of them as the default. Then I imported a csv file containing another compute's contacts. All went as expected but for the fact no contacts appear in the other accounts. I also imported another csv file for Calendar to the default account and each account shows the correct calendar entries. I guess Contacts don't behave like Calendar. So, I tried to import the Contacts csv file into the other accounts but could only find 'suggested accounts' a a target for the import. How can I get each account to have Contacts?

I have just upgraded to Windows 7 and Windows Mail. My old drive was not in good shape and could not be left connected, so I had my Outlook Express email stored to a My Docs location, which is were they sit in an .eml file format.
1. I have tried to have Windows Mail import them - no luck there
2. I have tried to drag and drop the file from exsisting folder to a new Windows Mail folder - it opens the file, but in a strange unreadable format - no luck there/What do I do to be able to access and read my old OE emails?

So lately actually for a while I've been having some iTunes in which is crashes when importing more than 1 song at a time. Sometimes it even crashes when just playing a song. I've looked and found a thing where you download Safari and take out a dll and replace the iTunes dll with that one and all this other crap and I never found a fix for it.

When I import messages from Windows Live Mail into Windows Live Mail, I proceed as follows:
- In Windows Live Mail I select Import messages, then Windows Live Mail and then finally I browse and select the location. Eventually I get a screen saying: Importing message ... of ... messages.
- When I check later in the Storage folder. I cannot find all the messages. During import it says that it is importing for example 21 files but when I check the Storage folder only 3 files are displayed.

I just installed Outlook 2007. I have 2 problems. I am using Windows 7 Home Premium. I can't import my address book from Windows Live, Hotmail or Gmail. I have searched and can find only the opposite (to export). I have exported from Windows Live,Hotmail and Gmail, but they are different and won't work. The other problem is I can't change the stationary. It is grayed out and says no other themes installed. I reinstalled the themes and put in the extras. I have folders named stationary that has files in them. you can click on them and see them.

I recently had to reformat my hard drive. Before doing so, I exported all of the registry mail rules and saved them on a flashdrive. Now, after reinstalling Windows and WLM, I am trying to figure out how to get the rules imported/reinstated without having to recreate them all again.
I merged them; i.e. clicked on the registry files I exported and saved prior to the reformat, and they are now in the registry themselves, but what else am I supposed to be doing because when I open WLM, there are no rules.

I was importing Pix from my Kodak Easy Share camera. After doing that, I unplugged my USB plug, but inadvertently unplugged my Ext HD USb plug(formerly Drive F). I then removed the USB for the camera and then plugged in the HD USB plug.
My computer now showed my Camera as an external device. I uninstalled it. I turned off the computer, but still I can't access the F drive. Finding the device via Ctrl Panel doesn't help either.

I cannot get all my music files/folders into iTunes. They are all on an external hard-drive in a folder called "our music". Prior windows 7 i used to point to this folder and all 3000 imported. Now they only impport 191. I have re-installed several times no luck. I also get when i go to any of the folders/files an error message stating i do not have permission to access this file.
If I look at properties, it has read only and "cannot display owner" in fields. I have tried to re-assign owner via edit option and take off read only property - but an error message received that it can't do that without owner permission and go to security tab. I still then get the same message.
I have just had to re-install everything as I had Windows 7 about month ago first put on, and i didn't have these problems then. I think i must have set something up in security but i can't see any options to change that would prevent this from happening - As I have spent the last 4 weekends uninstalling etc as the image I created wouldn't load either, and system restore couldn't complete. I really do not fancy having to do the lot again, if i can trace the error it would be great.

I built a server using FreeNAS 8.2 to store family pictures, videos, music, and Windows backups. In my home we have Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit and Windows 7 Professional 64bit. The server is setup with 3 Windows (CIFS) Shares. One share for each of the two computers and then a common share for multimedia. The user accounts on the NAS belong to the common group "family." The Multimedia share has ownership (user:group) of root:family. The permissions on the directories in the Multimedia share are read/write/execute for owner, read/write/execute for group, and read/execute for everyone else (or 0775 in the *nix world).
Anyway, on my computer (Professional) and my wife's computer (Home Premium), I see the shares in Windows Explorer | Network. I am able to access the shares, and the first time I accessed, I was prompted to enter user credentials, which I did along with checking the box to have the credentials remembered. So, now, when I access the shares in Windows Explorer, I have immediate access. I can read, write, delete, whatever through Windows Explorer. On my computer, I was able to easily transfer my iTunes library to the Multimedia share through the iTunes application, and iTunes now sees all of my iTunes media from the NAS, rather than local.
On my wife's computer, I am having a problem with pictures. I was able to easily move all of the 4.8 GB of pictures from my wife's My Pictures directory over to a Pictures directory on the Multimedia share. I then went into Windows Live Photo Gallery and added the Pictures directory on the Multimedia share as part of the library. The pictures on the NAS show up just fine in the application. I then went to set the Multimedia share Pictures directory as the Default Save Location, and I received an error that stated that the directory could not be set as the Default Save Location as it was Read Only.
However, I had just transferred files to that directory. So, I copied over some other files just to make sure, and I had no problems reading, writing, deleting from the directory via Windows Explorer. If I set the Pictures directory on the Multimedia share as the target for importing pictures from the camera, I get an Access Denied error when trying to import. However, I can import the pictures to the local My Pictures directory and right after the import, I can use Windows Explorer to move the pictures over to the NAS without so much as a hiccup.
I have done some searching on the Internet, but thus far, I have not found anything that resolves this issue. I have tried using the Windows 7 Library Tool application to add the Pictures directory on the Multimedia share to the Windows 7 Pictures Library and to set that as the Default Save Location. This does set those values, and I can see all of the pictures on the NAS in the Windows Explorer Pictures Library. Also, Windows Live Photo Gallery now has the NAS share as the Default Save Location. However, I still get the "Access Denied" Error when trying to import pictures to that location.
I have also tried setting the permissions on the NAS Pictures directory to 0777 or read/write/execute for everyone, but that didn't work. Does Windows 7 utilize some other account that may not have access to the stored NAS credentials for accomplishing some aspect of the picture import process? I have used Task Manager to view the running applications with Windows Live Photo Gallery and the Camera Import application running, and I see my wife's user account listed for those processes.

I have just starting using a machine at work that was previously used by someone else. I am trying to access an application that I am told can only be accessed using the virtual XP. I created new credentials and launched XP Virtual PC. However, I have no application access under my credentials. The previous user had access to these applications under their credentials. Is there anyway I can transfer or import the applications from the older user to mine?

I've read the other threads regarding my problem, but still can't figure out what to do. I backed up my files before installing Windows 7, and have an "Outlook Express" folder. However, I can't figure out how to import the contacts I had saved in my address book in Outlook. The Outlook files are in .dbx format, so I am unable to open them.
Does anyone know how I can even access the files so I can see my contacts and copy them down? Importing them would be ideal, but I'll take whatever I can get.

I can't imagine I can be the only one with this problem !! I have just purchased a new PC running Windows 7 and wanted to inport my backed up emails from Outlook Express which are on a hard drive in .dbx files. When I go to the drop down list in Windows Live Mail and click Import Messages a box appears and says select the format you want to import emails from and it lists Microsoft OE 6, Windows Live Mail and Windows Mail. I click the OE option and then next then a box about the location of messages appears. I click browse, find where the messages are and click next.A window opens and asks me to select folders and I select All folders (although I have tried a single folder without success) and then click nextA small box opens and I can see the folders being imported. When finished a window opens and says import complete and the messages are in Microsoft OE formatWhen I go back into Windows Live Mail in the Storage folders there appears a file called Imported Folder but when I open it there is nothing in there.
Mhy question is am I looking in the right place for the imported emails or have I missed something.I know the emails are on the hard drive and it says it is importing them but I don't know where.........I have looked on the desktop and in a couple of other locations but no joy.Apparently you can but a prog that opens .dbx files and displays them in an OE style. It is FreeFile Viewer but free it isn't.

I am trying to get way from the nightmare of Windows Live Mail 2011, mostly due to two bugs that are still in the latest version of the program.
I'm trying to migrate from WLM2011 to Outlook 2003 and I have run into a brick wall on importing my email accounts. Microsoft has extensive help pages on migrating TO Windows Live Mail, but apparently they do't think anyone would ever want to go FROM Windows Live Mail.
There is a good article at Migrate from Outlook Express or Windows (Live) Mail to Outlook | HowTo-Outlook which covers migrating the messages and contacts, but no one seems to have found any way to get your account data from WLM into Outlook. WLM will export the account data as iaf files (just like Outlook Express did) but Outlook doesn't recognize the iaf files.
I found a couple of old Outlook help pages that talk about importing IAF files, but the procedure shown does not work because Outlook doesn't ever give you any chance to tell it where to look for the IAF files, it just says "No internet accounts were found to import"

I am trying to replicate my Comcast email service that I use on a desktop to a laptop. It runs in Windows Live Mail. I do not have a Windows Essential account nor do I want one.I have downloaded WLM and installed in the laptop. Comcast runs fine but of course I am missing my contacts. I have exported the contacts from the desktop to a csv file and moved the file to the laptop. When I import that file, it only records in WLM 79 of the 649 records that are in the csv file (I looked). During the inport, I checked the mapping and all fields matched perfectly. Both machines are running Windows 7 Home Premium (64 bit on desktop, 32 bit on laptop) and IE9 browser.

I have been trying without success to export Outlook express mail from an XP computer into Windows live Mail on a brand-new Windows 7 HP computer. I have followed the directions on the Internet to copy the Outlook express mail folder onto a flash drive. The directions I followed were to go to Outlook express, click on tools, options, maintenance, store folder. Then copy store location, go to start menu, click run. Then when the Outlook express folder opens with the DBX files, I copied the entire folder to a flash drive. I have followed the directions on the Internet to copy the Outlook express mail folder onto a flash drive. I go into Windows live Mail import and follow the prompts. It acts like it is copying the DBX folders, however when it is finished there are no e-mails in the imported folder. I have tried over and over and have no luck. I have no idea where the e-mails are or if they are actually available.

I have bought a new computer with Windows 7 preinstalled. Before setting it up I backed up all my outstanding emails (204 .dbx files) and email addresses (one .wab file size 176kb) from my old computer on to a memory stick. I now want to import them into Windows Live Mail. I have gone through the recommended procedure for the emails, but only some of them have come across. I have been totally unable to import the addresses. The only procedures I have found seem to relate to a different version of Live Mail because they tell me to click on things that don't appear on my screen! It occurs to me that maybe not all the messages are being imported because I haven't imported the relevant contact details. Could this be the case? By the way I can't go back to the old computer as it has completely died, which is why I replaced it.

Having successfully moved my address book (.WAB format) to w7 and converted it to .CSV format I can get as far as "Select the Contacts folder that you want to import to" as in the website [URL] but when I click "next" the box is blank where a Contacts folder should be. In outlook 2003 I have some contacts which I added manually to address book so there should be an address book of some sort.

After a clean install of Windows 7, I installed Office 2007. I also installed Windows Live Mail not to use it as an e-mail client, but only as an intermediate to import mail accounts. Therefore, I imported all my many e-mail accounts to Windows Live Mail from previously saved IAF files. Until here all worked as expected. The problem is that now, when I try to "Import internet mail account settings" from Windows Live Mail to Outlook it just answers "No internet accounts were found to import". How come?
Can someone please instruct me on how to overcome this problem, please?
