When I press Win+E (the windows-key and E) I don't get the explorer but an error.How can I restore the shortcut? When I open the explorer via the menu or icon everything works OK, it is only the shortcut that won't play.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI recently moved to Win 7 and I changed my Windows Explorer configuration to display the file extensions.
Now when I use the F2 shortcut to copy file names, it does not select the file extension.
How can I restore XP behaviour where the file extension was selected as well when I hit F2 ?
Shortcut Icons just show the >unknown< icon.I have tried to:
1. reboot in safe mode
2. move the shortut folder in and out
3. closed Explorer.exe and reopen it.
4. the last thing i've tried was to use the system restore as many say htat would help the problem. but when i want's to run system Restore it comes with the fatal error "0x80090067", so i cannot restore. WTF.
i downloaded a video file and when I checked the folder it was downloaded to it was not there. I then used windows explorer to locate the file and it found it. However, I got this error message "this shortcut refers to has been changed or moved, so this shorcut will no longer work properly."

View 9 Replies View RelatedI often have to create Shortcuts to executable code. I used Shortcut Extension - Remove or Restore to get Code: SED.exe instead of the Windows 7 default Code: SED.exe - Shortcut as name of the newly created shortcut.
But I would prefer to have just 'SED'. Any way to do this automatically?
I think it might matter that I do not hide extensions ['Hide extensions for known files' (Option in Explorer -> Tools -> Folder Options... -> View)].
I have a fresh install of win 7 64 bit Home Premium. When I right click on a shortcut and open its properties dialog, the only tabs i get are "General", "Compatibility", "Security", "Details", and "Previous Versions", but no "Shortcut" tab. I have searched the Web and there are very few instances of this problem and no solution. I have tried everything I can think of with no success.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI wouldn't go so far to say, I'm totally computer illiterate, but not far from it.. If there's anyone out there, who's up for a challenge I'm running windows 7. I am the administrator. Someone I don't trust at all, used my PC a while back. After he (did whatever he did) I noticed I couldn't access several files. I get a "access denied" or you don't have permission to view this file, owner info etc.. I can see a lot of the files, but their either empty now or I can't view them. I have used restore many times in the past, but now I get a message " no restore points".. I don't know what he did, or if he did anything.. It could be one of my kids changed properties by mistake, before I wised up and created a basic user acct w/ limited access for them.. I almost forgot. When I go into file properties there is a red x by my user name (administrator) Not in every property, but several.. Sometimes there is a red x by other user names, as well, but mostly mine.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI recently installed some updates in my Proline notebook, but after installing the 30 percent, it failed to restart, with the screen showing nothing (as if it's off). I then tried to restore it to an earlier time via safe mode but the restore point available is only the one as at the time of the update. I tried to create a restore point, but when i tried, i cannot even find system protection when i looked for it and it directs me to system properties where my computer's description is blank and it cannot be edited.Even the updates cannot be uninstalled via safe mode.Is there no other options i can try in order to start my laptop normally again?

I created a backup of my old registry before cleaning and I can access it using the command prompt that you can access in the system restore options. View 7 Replies View RelatedOK, so a couple of days ago, my HP desktop crashed and then went through the whole System Recovery loop(I couldn't login to Safe mode, wouldn't let me past the System Recovery Screen). Well I backed up the entire C drive using Backup your files in the menu. Then it shows you all the file types it will back up; i.e photos, videos, e-mails and bookmarks. So I did that to an external hard drive and it comes out to 143GB.Now comes my problem. I've been able to copy everything from the external hard drive using RecoveryMgr.exe which opens the WIM files and saves them to my C: hard drive under System Recovery Files. However it does not seem to work when it comes to putting in my old Thunderbird e-mails, contacts and such or in Firefox to restore my bookmarks, saved passwords.

View 3 Replies View RelatedSystem restore failed to extract the file. from the restore point. There was a disk failure during the restore. This might be caused by bad sectors on the disk. I get the same message, but with a different file name, with every restore point I try, and I have now tried all seven available restore points, going back to 30 Dec 2011. The computer was working perfectly until 3 days ago when it blue screened, and has not started properly since. It is a Corei5 with 4 GB RAM and is only 12 months old. I just dont believe the drive has that many bad sectors.

I installed Ubuntu 12.04, the installation smooth as butter, but after a few days of usage, the GRUB system screwed up. After a LOT of problems I managed to restore my Laptop to its default configuration. Then, I tried to restore my personal files with the DVDs I made, but when the manager finished, it only showed a folder with all my files in it! And it didn't give me any option to restore these files or something!

Obviously two of them are worthless. I understood that a new restore point should be added each week, or at a major change of some sort. How do I change this so that more points are added as time goes by? One each week would be just fine. I can't find this option in Win 7 as I recall was available in XP.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have an old HD that I used to use for backups in a different PC setup, and though I deleted those backups when I moved on to a different HD, the backups were recoverable using Pandora and I believe intact since I never used the drive in question after that time. So specifically, I now have a folder called "Backup Set 2011-02-13 190024" that contains a 84 zipped folders worth 13.1GB that comprise that backup, and I want to restore them in some automatic fashion to see what's actually worth salvaging. (I assume this doesn't have to be done one-folder-at-a-time, drilling down through five layers of branches in the folder-tree, and almost immediately forgetting where I am...) But when I look at "Backup and Restore," I can't bring up this or any target folders - the link "Select another backup to restore files from" produces a blank set of choices, and there doesn't appear to be any way to 'load' a particular folder to restore, as I would have expected.

I have tried restoring in Safe Mode.I have deleted all restore points and turned off sys protection, rebooted and turned System protection back on.I have uninstalled Kaspersky (my system protection).I have made sure Volume Shadow Copy is started.
I restored my computer to 4/13/2012 and i lost all of my word adn excel documents, and pictures. All emails are there and appear to be fine.
