View 6 RepliesI need to install Windows 7 on multiple computers (over 20), overwriting the original install with a customized one with added software. I would use a boot time imaging software to simply load the image but I am concerned about the license key for each computer.Could I update the cloned license information with the license I copied from each computer beforehand? Either by getting it from the documentation that came with the computer or by using a software tool to extract the key from the Windows 7 install that was originally on the computer before I overwrite it with the clone image.

I have the flexibility to run a command after the extract; is there a batch command to bulk unblock the files? I tried takeown and icalcs /grant but the unblock still shows up

I have been assured by nero that their new program, Nero 11 which will be released in October 2011 will eradicate this problem.I have sent two diagnostig logs ( Nerovision.txt & Dx Diag log ) to Nero with which they said that they were unable to fix.I have also enquired with nero that they would look into this matter with regard to a possible patch for nero 10 in the future & pointed out that their reputation was at stake over this.

View 7 Replies View RelatedOS: Windows 7 Home Premium 32 bit The windows system image backed up on my external hard drive (2TB WD USB3) is not showing while restoring the PC from an image.
The only option available is my hard drive partition on which i also had saved a system image. Though windows recommends External hard drive for backing up image when backing up the system.
I need a little help figuring this out. I made a backup image a while back on my network. Now that I want to re-image, I reboot as requested, wait for it to load, and Windows says it can't find my backup, "if it is on a network, close this window , type the network location."Putting in the network location does nothing, I'm just returned to the screen where it would list the backup image if it had found it, but there's nothing there.Thinking perhaps my NAS was the problem I copied the image onto a portable hard drive, but after rebooting into the restore program, Windows 7 doesn't find the USB drive.

View 2 Replies View RelatedThree Computers on a home network. Desktop in Office (Windows 7) . Wife's Laptop (Windows 7). My laptop ( Vista unfortunately). Norton Security Suite and all three. I have a network setup and a Homegroup established.
Everything was setup and working so that I could share files between all three. My wife was able to open a desktop file make changes and save it back to the desktop computer.
All of that changed. Now we get a message when trying to save the file. "You do not have permission to save in this location. Contact the administrator to obtain permission".
I have given the entire "MY Documents" sharing permission to everyone. I have checked everything. I have looked over all kinds of forums and nothing has worked.
I am to the point of doing a complete reinstall of Windows 7 on my Desktop.
I am attempting to create a backup image of my Windows 7 OS but when using the native Backup utility I only see a way to create an image with all of my files attached to the image when all I want is just a backup of just the barebones system. I lost my original Windows 7 Install disk so was hoping there was a way to get a copy of the OS since I just recently ordered an SSD. Basically I was hoping to move my OS install over to the SSD while keeping my files on my current HDD intact.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI have a windows 7 pro that is connected to the domain, but it has a lot of issues, it can discover only about 5 machines from about 50.Also no one in the network can access in through LAN although it can join the domain with no problem. I tried lot of things like:
- Rejoin it to the domain.
- Rename PC name before rejoin it to the domain.
- Remove all profiles and create new ones.
- Remove DNS entry and AD computer entry regarding this machine.
I think it is a system problem not a network problem, but i don't wanna reinstall the system as i have a lot of licenses for it and it is hard to reset these licenses again.
When I set up a Homegroup between two Computers with Windows 7 it works fine for a few minutes then drops out. The only way to restore is set up new Homegroup but again this drops out after few minutes.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm learning about how to install Windows 7 to many computers. But after I read the tutorial, it has to use Windows AIK to do the process, which has a huge installer size (1,7 GB), not suitable for my slow Internet connection to download it.
Is there another way / alternative to install Windows to many computers (let's say 10-15 computers) at once, instead of using WAIK?

Anyways I am managed to get all on my computer to have at least windows 7 home premium, and was wondering when the next new windows OS comes out, what is the cheapest way to upgrade. I think I will need around 10 licenses;Just get like 3 family packs of 3 licenses.I have heard about tecnet and MSDN subscriptions, what is the story on those.I am in school, and I hear you can get windows 7 for like $30, but I am guessing they will not let me get 10 copies for $30 each.

View 23 Replies View RelatedOver the past couple of weeks, I have purchased three different computers. Two from HP and one from Dell. All three computers have the same freezing issue, even if there are no programs running. The only programs that have been installed are Quicken 2010, Turbotax 2010, and Microsoft Office 2007. The only other change made was uninstalling Norton AV and installing eset. The computer freezes up and the only way to get it working again is to hit ctrl alt delete to bring up the task manager. If I bring it up, everything starts working again for a short time. All three computers freeze often even when they have just booted up. All of the computers have been plugged into a power strip which is shared by a bunch of devices, so it's possbile that it could be a power issue, or maybe it's a compatibility issue between Windows 7 and one of the aforementioned programs.

I can see the affected win7 machine from all the other computers and can even access its files, the affected machine can connect to the internet as well but i cannot see any of the others. Network discovery is on, but file and print sharing is not and when i click it on and say Save Changes, it does not hold the change; also under: my system settings-system properties-computer name the Network ID button is grayed out so i cannot change my workgroup name even if i wanted to. View 6 Replies View RelatedAs of late, one of my computers (Windows 7, 64-bit) has been randomly freezing up. When this happens, I hear a crackle from my speakers, and my USB mouse and keyboard get disconnected (their lights get turned off, so I'm assuming that's the case), and the screen just freezes so it isn't just the mouse/keyboard getting disconnected. This happens on different times - two shortly after startup, one while on a page that uses Flash (I use Chrome, if that's helpful), and one while using a format converter.Going through the event logs, the only event that seems to be related to this is one saying that the computer had been improperly turned off at the time this happened. No other errors that could've caused this could be found. I have a suspicion that it may be an issue with the GPU, since I recently saw a notification saying that my video card's driver recovered from an error, and Photoshop has been crashing as of late due to GPU-related problems.
View 14 Replies View Relatedwhen I do a clean install of Windows on a Dell computer and want to install drivers, I go to the Dell site and search for drivers using the Service Tag. It will generally come up with 80 or 100 drivers that I need to wade through. There are commonly 4 or 5 wireless drivers, the same # of wired network driver, 2 or 3 audio drivers, 2 or 3 graphics, etc.Is there a quick way to determine what drivers to install?I have gone to http:[url]... and looked up Vendor ID and Device ID but this is rather time consuming. I find that Dell computers are much worse than other vendors in not being able to tell me what hardware drivers are needed.
I make my entire living on a computer but am not an IT person and really don't know enough about PC's. I recently fought with a computer to clean it up then finally reinstalled Windows 7. I am wondering of keeping two computers for business make sense. I use the same laptop in two locations at home. I do most of my work at a desk with a docking station and two monitors, I use it like a desktop at my main desk. When I fill orders I carry the computer and use it alone in a room I call my clean room. I do sometimes take the computer other places to work. I am thinking about getting two more docking stations and two more identical computers.
Two for work and one for non-work related activities. If I had a second computer that was maybe a week behind on being synched up I would have had no problems. Is there a easy way to keep to identical laptops synched up maybe 1 week apart from each other? I think it would make life much easier for me as I would have less downtime even with things on an external hard drive. I guess what I want to do is have two computers set up identically but synched up weekly as well as an external hard drive also synched up weekly.
I could keep one computer at my main desk, one in my clean room to process orders and if anything goes wrong the second computer could move back and forth until I am up and running again. I am thinking my non-work computer could be the same so I can also use the docking stations. Is this a good strategy to avoid downtime? Is synching up laptops a fast and easy thing to do? Will the synch up go both directions? I am worried about the both direction things. Lets say I put something on one computer and then later put something on the other computer and synch them up?
I was thinking, maybe it's up to 3 installs no matter what computer, however, I have done more than 3 installs on my same computer with no problems with the product key. I have read that it's good for up to 3 computers, not 3 installs.
