My hard drive crashed and I am replacing it with a new one. Can I just install a fresh copy of windows 7 on acer aspire 4810t without having to do any upgrades? I cannot upgrade until windows 7 is installed first. Is that possible?

I'm planning on buying an Asus Zenbook UX32VD soon and it comes with a standard 7200 rpm drive instead of an SSD. So because of that i want to upgrade it to an SSD drive.But I also want to have the same windows thats installed moved over to the new drive. The drives i've looked at all have data migration tools and one comes with norton ghost but i've never had to do something like this before where i didn't have an optical drive and a windows disk for a reinstall so i'm looking for some help here before i order everything and then do something stupid.i don't mind if i have to lose whatever settings and data i might have setup already, but i just want to make sure i have the same windows and the additions it comes with moved over to the new SSD drive.

I am replacing the internal hard drive and I am attempting to install the factory system recovery image from the system recovery disc that I made when I bought the computer. After installing the drive and booting up from the recovery disc, I go into full factory recovery but when I go in to the option to "restore to factory default" the option is grayed out. Do I need to format the drive first? How do I do this outside of windows?
I have a Acer Aspire Laptop that was running Windows 7. The hard drive had totally crashed so I ordered one from Newegg. It came in and I installed the Western Digital Hard Drive. here was no problem in installing the hard drive. After installing I checked the Bios and the drive was recognized.I had ordered from Acer a set of Recovery CDs which I used today to recover Windows. All went well and I had the system up and running. There were a 109 Windows updates that I started. Went in the other room and came back in about a half an hour and the laptop was dead. I went into Bios and no drive was recognized.

I made the backup discs when the computer was new, but evidently made them through the Toshiba backup rather than Windows backup. My dad's hard computer crashed, and we've spent the better half of 12 hours trying to recover about 30 gigs of music off of it. The problem is that the Windows repair stuff that came with our Windows 7 Ultimate isn't helping AT ALL, neither is repair disks, or any other junk that you can think of (and believe me, we've tried it all). When we try to boot the hard drive we get a "Error Configuring System" message, and when we've tried to run Safe Mode by holding f8, it doesn't allow us to. Now, we've also tried running an alternate boot source from the BIOS menu, then holding f8 to see if it'll give us advanced BIOS options and allow us to get to safe mode that way... but to no avail.

Everything was fine, but when I cloned her 320 gb hard to the 750 gb drive, it partitioned the drive so that 320 was allocated to the active boot system and the other 400-some were unallocated. I needed to merge both partitions so that all the space would be usable. This is how the drive was partitioned.B: System 199 MB --> C: Bootable Active 285 GB --> D: System Recovery 12 GB --> Unallocated 400 GB..MiniTool Partition Wizard will only allow you to merge two partitions that are next to each other, so in order to merge partition C with the unallocated partition I had to delete partition D.Everything was fine, but then MiniTool said it couldn't finish the merge process because partition C was in use. It told me to restart my computer to finish the merge process.I restarted the computer and now it won't boot. I download a Windows 7 64 bit recovery ISO and burned it to disk then popped it in the drive and restarted the computer but it still won't boot. I even went into BIOS settings and made sure that the CD/DVD drive is first in line in the boot order. It still won't boot.Not sure what to do from here. I'm a Mac user, my daughter has the Windows 7 computer, so I'm not exactly very well-versed in that operating system. I transferred everything but got all the way to the point of configuring windows for new computer. Then it would state must re-install...then administrater locked screen would appear but with no way to enter password. A new recovery disc was sent and installed. Problem is i can't find anything from my old harddrive. Where can i look for files to recover them.Are they still on the old hard drive?
View 2 Replies View RelatedIt's a dell latitude, 1 year old. Laptop suddenly crashed and when the laptop booted it said: "no boot sector on internal hard drive". I tried repairing the boot sector with the windows repair function, but the hard drive is just empty... nothing to repair. Then I tried to boot off a ubuntu live cd. which worked. and showed me an empty hard drive with the_maximum_capacity_of_the_drive_GB of unallocated space.
Since that I reinstalled windows 7 two times, and stopped working after an hour or so. I installed ubuntu, which worked for several days. then i tried windows 7 again (clean install). And then I kept working on the laptop for a couple of hours until the "crash" happened. All the programs stopped working suddenly. When I opened anything I was shown this error: "Illegal operation attempted on a registry key that has been marked for deletion."
After that everything is lost if I turn the computer off. And I'm back at an empty unformatted hard drive. I changed the sata operation mode in the bios to different options before every installation of windows. I didn't try xp, because I don't have dell-xp cd's . Is the hard drive broken? I guess not because ubuntu works. and windows 7 also, but it just goes away suddenly... Here's a video (shot in portraitmode) of the event... [URL].
I want to put my old hard drive that has files and was used with windows vista and put it into a new windows 7 laptop. Is there any overlap or any config problems I can run into doing this? Or do I just put it in and the old files should work and all i have to do is update some drivers from vista to 7?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI can run World of Warcraft and Battlefield 3 at max settings and NOTHING happens. Runs like a dream. However if I play any over games such as Skyrim or the Witcher 2 my computer will completely crash to a black screen and then a weird buzzing noise which lasts 1-2 seconds. It will then require a hard reset.
This crash only happens when I play video games and it seems adjusting the settings doesn't seem to change anything. High or low settings it will still crash. I have ruled out Temperature I think. At it's hottest my GPU will be at about 55C.

I have an HTPC that I've had for about 4 years now. Today when I booted it up it went into an infinite loop with the 'Startup Repair Utility" where it would just sit there claiming to be repairing the drive but never actually completing or providing a notification of the issues (typical Microsoft troubleshooting). Anyway, I finally was able to get into the advanced settings of the utility and get to a command prompt and see what was going on.
1)The previous RAID 1 configuration was setup as the main C: drive with the OS and also where I had all our music stored. But now during the boot sequence the bios startup it flashes in red complaining about the RAID array having degraded and when I finally got into a command prompt it was no longer mapped to C:, the two drives in the array were mapping independently as drive E: and F: respectively (the DVD-ROM is the D: drive).
2)My first concern was to get my music off it so I plugged in an external USB drive and went into command prompt and tried to xcopy from E:, it started to copy then failed catastrophically with a weird error so that would appear to be the bad drive. I then tried the same thing on drive F: (the mirror) and its cranking along nicely copying all my music over. My fingers are crossed but I suspect I'll be OK, its unlikely to get two drive failures in the same array at the exact same time
Once I get my data off the good drive how should I proceed? I assume I need to get a new duplicate drive installed and then can I not rebuild the RAID array from the good drive? I've never done this before, the machine came built for me so I'm not familiar how it is setup. What I do know is that it has a 'RAID utility' you can jump into at boot up by hitting F10.
I have a hard drive I want to backup to a 64gb flash drive and then restore it to another different hard drive than where it came from. I have windows 7 and office on my laptop and I want it on my desktop pc. There isn't close to 64gb of info on my laptop so it should be fine even though the hard drive says I have 160gb. It is all free space except for those programs.
View 3 Replies View RelatedSo, I have a i7 2600K system with a solid state disk as the boot drive, and an older (c2008) Samsung Spinpoint F3 500GB drive as the data drive for programs (that I deem as not worthy of the quick load times). The hard drive has given me some errors over time, and I bought a hard disk to replace it (a Hitachi 1TB). The issue I'm having is that the fact that Windows 7 puts a small (100MB) partition on the F3, and for some reason, even though I'm running Acronis 2012, it doesn't seem to be able to clone the F3 over to the Hitachi. I've also tried Drive XML, and for my 2 hour wait, I only managed to acquire a boot error. Thankfully, I've not done anything rash to destroy the data on the F3, but given the fact that I've seen corrupted files in Steam from that drive, I'm not will to trust it long term with my data. I really need to get the data onto that Hitachi, though... Anyone have any advice for upgrading the HDD in a SSD/HDD system? I don't really feel like it should be so hard, especially if I've bought Acronis True Image, but maybe they haven't designed their product to handle this scenario quite yet?

Turning my computer PC on today, all I got was a blue HP invent screen with setup, boot menu, system recovery, and system diagnosis, and I could not get past it. I entered the BIOS and figured out that the hard drive was listed as "not installed." Pretty sure that is the main problem.I tried a system restore (with the Windows 7 install disc), but I guess the computer couldn't read the hard drive enough to enter safe mode (I tried restarting and F8ing several times). I put in an external hard drive, and the BIOS read it; however, windows does not allow you to partition an OS on a hard drive.

It's a Samsung 1TB drive. I also have a 64 Solid-state drive in there as my primary hard drive that Windows was installed on and a couple of programs are installed on. make a dualboot comp by adding windows XP to a new partition. I created the new partition with 20gb. (From the 500 of my actual harddrive)But before I actually installed on that, I got distracted with a second harddrive that my dad got(for no reason). It had a full copy of Windows XP backed up on it from another computer, so I figured I would just use that for the dualboot. I plugged it in (wired the same way as my old harddrive, but different data slot), restarted, checked the harddrive in explorer - all the data was there / reading correctly / etc, and I used 'easyBCD' to add the new harddrive to the boot list.(Which, of course, crashes if I try to start it. I just wanted to see what it would do). For a reason I can't remember, I unplugged the second harddrive for a bit, started the computer on accident (I don't know if anything loaded before I shut it off), and then when I plugged it back in.Windows 7 would not launch. It goes to a DOS-like window, except it's just a flashing _ and it never does anything even after a few minutes. XP didn't work still.. so I decided to reinstall XP (as I couldn't tell which harddrive was which on the list, I unplugged the main harddrive while installing onto the new).. and when I did this.. it formatted and installed fully... then restarted.. then restarted.. and restarted.. and just kept restarting, never showing any thing past the manufacturer logo/BIOS load-button-message-thing. So, I then try to use my 3-disk Windows7Recovery disk(burned myself with a program apparently included by the manufacturer.) It installed fully, appearing to work.. but when I launched it, it said "Invalid Partition Table" and wouldn't boot past that. When I insert my driver installer disk, it gives me a basic DOS window thing. dir A: shows the files in the disk. dir B: for some reason shows the same. C: says "Error reading from drive C: DOS area: general failure". All other letter:'s just say "invalid drive". (I'm doing this with both harddrives in.) I attempted connecting the harddrives to an old computer, but it gave an error for both. (It detected the harddrives, but said it had an error reading from it. Windows Explorer asked me to format it... {i'm willing to format one of the drives if anybody thinks it will help, but the old harddrive has data I'd prefer not to lose.} ) Looking on google, I saw several problems that all have similar problems (less overdescripptive than I am though) but none of the fixes suggested worked for me. Also - as I have two different with different errors, I only need to make one of them work.)Also - my other available computer has a CD burner / floppy drive if either are required. I also have several USB's. The computer can boot from USB's and CD's (tested), and I could easily take the floppy thingy and connect it to the computer.also - this computer is probably still under warranty unless unscrewing the hard drive voids it. .. does that count as modification of the computer?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a USB external hard drive that I keep all my documents etc on (had it for years)I upgraded from Vista Home to & Home Premium then had to upgrade recently to Professional to run my Sage. Through all these upgrades my ext. drive ran fine. Occasionally the drvie letter would change if I had something else plugged into the USB, this was always easily corected in disk management by changing the drive path.The connection on the case packed up so I had to get the drive put into a new case, now when I plug it in the drive is assigned G instead of F, I tried to change the drive letter allocation in Disk Management but it won't let me as the program still thinks I have a second ext. hard drive which is labelled F. I suspect this has happened because when the usb connection broke the drive was disconnected suddenly instead of a proper eject.How do I get Disk Management to remove the inactive drive - i can't find any obvious way - eject, delete etc are all missing when I click on tools or tasks.

Then, i use the other laptop with Windows XP professional with the intention to copy yhe file inside the toshiba hard disk.However, after plugged in the hard disk to the other laptop, under the disk management, it shows that the toshiba disk as : dynamic disk, unreadable.i having problem to backup the data inside the toshiba hard disk.....
