View 4 Replies View RelatedI've gotten to the point where I need to just reinstall windows completely on my Asus G74SX (too many problems, I want to start fresh.). I encounter an error 1029 with Asus's recovery disks that I made when I had windows working: it says it is recovering all the way to 100% then doesnt work. I am in the process of trying it again so I'll see if it actually managed to wipe my hard drive like it said it was doing, and maybe if it did actually work and reinstall windows.However, I'd like to be able to get into the recovery partition because I would prefer restoring it with Asus as they recommend me to. However, when I hit F9, their target to get there, it doesn't do anything and just reloads the boot screen, with the Asus logo on it. I don't have an actual Wndows recovery CD so that's not an option, and at this point since my hard drive has likely been wiped by these recovery DVDs, I don't think going into Ubuntu and fixing the MBR will do me much good anymore.It may be worth noting that before I last restarted, I marked the Windows partition as active because of a tutorial here, making it so that recovery partition isn't active anymore.

i have had the exact same problem as OwlMan.. For the 1st day everything ran just fine... But on the 2nd day....
I was playing fifa 11 and had minimised it to check the time when this happened..
I don't know if this happened to owlman but the system does not seem to have the graphics drivers installed after the incident , and every time i try to install the drivers , at first everything goes fine but during reboot , at the time when you can see the cursor but the rest of the screen is black , the computer reboots again...
Also , during the countless reboots, i once mistakenly left the nvidia driver cd in the optical drive....when the boot screen passed the windows logo, the red lines reappeared and the system rebooted again .
I have two laptops - a new one with Win 7 HP 32bit and an old one with Win 7 HP 64 bit
The new one with Win 7 HP 32bit came with 4gb of ram which is a bit silly since 32bit Win 7 HP can only use 3gb of that, but from what I understand, the serial on the underside can also be used to activate the 64bit version, which would recognise all the ram
Now, even though I've paid for two Win 7 HP licenses, I don't actually have a Win 7 disc, only the factory reset discs (which I had to burn myself when I first turned on the computer - which is pretty shocking really!!!)
But I digress. Is there any way Win 7 HP 64bit on my new laptop WITHOUT paying for it (again) I know XP let you make custom (slipstreamed) XP discs from installations but I can't find a way to do it in Win 7
There is some debate in my class about if one can put an upgrade disc on a new hdd? Where there is no recent OS installed at all.

Hard Drives : 3 x 1 Tb Seagate

I've enabled the raid 5 in the BIOS. I've downloaded the driver from the Gigabyte Disc onto a flash drive. When I load Windows 7 it says " Windows cannot be installed to this disc. This computers hardware may not support booting to this disc. Ensure that the disk's controller is enabled in the computers BIOS menu". I've checked and rechecked the BIOS. I also downloaded the MSM64 Driver in the Gigabyte disc and that the one I copied to the flash drive.
I have installed new windows 7, on my previous windows 7. Till that, I have saved my important files in Local disc D. Windows is installed on local disc C. But previous windows version moved moved to D disk. And my files, that were in D disk, have lost. What can I do for moving back my files, which are very important for me??

So long story short, my current os (w7) is installed on a non-boot partition of a now internal drive that used to be external. This wasn't an issue/I didn't notice because I had another unused internal hdd which DID have an old bootable os partition, and then I'd just choose the correct instance of Windows when that one booted.I have to get rid of the old HDD with the bootable partition. Is there anyway I can change the non bootable my currant OS is on to a bootable partition (ie thru windows, cmd, bios etc)

I am trying to load Windows 7 Pro the are 2 Partitions when i select any of the 2 i get the same massage that Windows cannot be installed to Disk 0 Partition 1 or 3 depending which i choose i then downloaded Drivers (SATA AHCI Driver) Into my USB the i got a massage No device drivers where found. then tried to format it goes up to 20% then fails.
it seems like i can't Excess my hard drive and the Total Size is the same as the Free Space Which means the is no operating system available

View 4 Replies View RelatedI bought a HP Laptop with Windows 7 Home Premium pre-installed. I got rid of any bloatware and as I'm typing this, Macrium is imaging my C drive to a network drive. Now my question is, would I be able to completely format the computer, set up my own partitions and install Windows on one of them? Preferably a fresh and clean version but I wouldn't mind the bloatware one either. Things to consider, I don't have a disk-drive so it'd have to be done with a thumbdrive; I have not been able to find the actual O/S product key, if someone could tell me where to locate it.

I have looked on the internet about how to change my partition system to GPT. Seems like something I can do, however, I have a question: If I have only one physical hard drive in my machine, is it possible the change the partition system from MBR to GPT? I see lots of examples of doing it to a second hard drive, but not many when it is the only hard drive. It is a new drive and clean, so I do not worry at this point about the data on it.

Is there a way in which to stop Windows changing your partition color to red when the drive is low on space?
So I recently installed win7 to my desktop which at the time had Ubuntu as the sole OS. I wanted all my stuff from Ubuntu after win7 install so I created an NTFS partition and moved all my crap there, wipe Ubuntu and did a clean install. So after I moved all my stuff from the NTFS patition to the win7 partition I ran gparted and erased the extra drive. What I was paying attention to was that win7 installed into an extended partition. Now when I try to boot I get a 'Disk failure boot, insert system disk and press enter'. So I thought ok easy enough, no luck it can't run the repair from install disk as it can't see the drive for some reason. is there any hope for my drive? Or should I clean install? No biggie if I have too, I can run Ubuntu live and move my crap if need be, just would rather not.

View 2 Replies View Relatedodd prob with disc read error. So about once a month my cpu has a disc read error,this will last about a week as I try everything to fix it. Then, out of no where, runs perfect. Last time this happened, I thought I would think ahead and installed another copy of windows 7 on a D: and test it. ran perfect. So this time it happened, I tried to boot off D: and same problem, disc read error, reboot.Disconnected my C: drive and same prob with new windows install. I have tried windows install disc and recovery disc along with all utilities and full backup disc image. Still nothing... then just when I give up, It runs fine. it seems to stay glitchy the first few reboots but then works perfect for about 1-3 months
View 2 Replies View RelatedI've got a laptop with a partition on the main drive that holds some of the programs that came with the laptop (fingerprint reader, webcam software, etc.), but it's a 28 gig partition, and it's only using 2. I was wondering how I would go about removing the partition, but keeping the programs on the it. Will it work if I just copy-paste them over to the main drive and delete the partition? This is probably a stupid question, but I figure it's better to ask and know than guess and mess something up. There's also a folder in the partition called drivers, so my guess would be the aforementioned copy-paste technique won't work.
