View 2 Replies View RelatedI bought a new Laptop (ASUS X53SV) and as soon as I got it I made a recovery disc (turned out several discs not one). Now I was wondering what happens if I had to replace my Hard Drive? It has a recovery partition to reset it to the default factory settings if the system becomes corrupt etc, which I hope I will never use. However, if the drive needs to be replaced (all drives go one day!!) then the recovery partition is no good any more.Pre-installed on the Laptop was the usual software bundles with trialware but more importantly the OS, in my case Windows 7.Would these recovery discs make the(eventual)new Hard Drive a REAL copy of the current one as it was when I first got it AND usable with all the software? My concern is for the copy of Windows 7.What else should I do? How could I save the Windows 7 OS? The manufacture doesn't give real discs any more!! Apart from back up discs, should I make another Recovery one again? If so, how often should I do these?

But when I change Processor Power Management at 5% min and 80% max in power plan at both battery and plugin, so when I am in Windows everything works fine, but when I start a game in full-screen, this power plan will change to 100% for max and min, and stay like that. I change it as Administrator. It is on laptop Toshiba A300D.But before this last reinstall everything works fine.

Windows Update is failing for some reason (I was successfully able to install 2 updates, but all of the others fail)
I am getting an "unknown error" 80070308, and while there seems to be one other reference to this on a MSFT forum, the solutions there were basically restart the update service, which doesn't work, or rename some of the Windows files... which I did as well to no avail.
Does anyone know what this error is? Or had it before?
Shortcut Icons just show the >unknown< icon.I have tried to:
1. reboot in safe mode
2. move the shortut folder in and out
3. closed Explorer.exe and reopen it.
4. the last thing i've tried was to use the system restore as many say htat would help the problem. but when i want's to run system Restore it comes with the fatal error "0x80090067", so i cannot restore. WTF.

While installing windows 8 i ran into an error. It said that this disk is mbr and is needed to be converted to gpt. So I tried formatting it and it saidWe couldn't create a new partition error:0xc983c160] <- googled it and no results at all.I went to cmd and tried to convert mbr to gpt manually.Gave me: Virtual drive error:This specific drive cannot be converted. I updated all BIOS-graphic card drivers and still no solution.
So when ever I get an update notice to update Internet explorer 9 and I try updating it, it always cancel because of some weird error that windows cant troubleshoot. I try downloading it from the Microsoft website, and it doesn't install. It says it does but I still end up with ie7. I know tootle chrome is 100x better but I have it and I think upgrading it will boost my system performance a bit.
View 7 Replies View RelatedWhen I was booting one day last week I got a nasty BSOD when Windows was trying to load. Then on the next reboot Windows 7 said it couldn't load and needed to do the recovery OS option from the Windows 7 repair on the CD. Well, before trying that I did a cold reboot and it got back into the OS fine so I didn't think much of it. Now, I noticed Ghost shows the C: drive status as "Unavailable" and it can't back it up anymore. It does give me an option to restore from one of my old backups. I'm thinking the MBR got hosed up somehow or something like that. But I'm skeptical to run an MBR repair since I have that 100MB partition on my SSD where my OS resides.
Ghost Shot> This was about a week ago my Windows 7 started acting up right before the big patch Tuesday. I've been running it for over a year now and it's been solid. When I first set it up I installed it on my SSD (Intel 510 120GB) drive. One of the qualms I had with the install is Windows created a separate boot sector on the disk drive where it stored my boot files. This is known the the "system reserved" operating system files 100MB partition. Apparently the way to avoid this is to use a third party partition tool before doing the windows install. That way it will keep the Boot sector files on the same partition which is how I would of liked it for doing restores from Ghost 15,etc. Anyway, ghost was backing up my system C: drive before last week. I have yet to even try and use Ghost to see if it would successfully restore my OS but I've been using it to backup my C: drive anyways. Prior to last week it could backup my C: drive fine. I might try a Ghost restore point from a few weeks back before this happened but not sure yet[CODE]

View 4 Replies View RelatedOk, my system is slowing down when I do large file transfers (transfer goes from 60M/s to 2M/s after zero io for about 10 min).
Anyway, I am now combing through the Event Viewer + resource monitor and I came across "event 35" with the source kernel-processor-power the text associated says "Performance power management features on process or 1 in group 0 are disabled due to a firmware problem. Check with the computer mfgr for updated firmware" - anyway I have a bunch of these errors.
Googled for 'event 35' and found nothing - anyone have more detail on this event and how to solve it?
I cannot provide a BSOD error code/info because there was none generated; there was no BSOD. What happened was that I had a few applications open. MSN, Firefox, Opera, and Songbird are what I normally have open, and they never caused a problem before. Then I had Google Chrome open, which I do at times with no side effects, and was playing Angry Birds. The link I used to play is this one: Angry Birds Chrome, then after about an hour playing, the computer suddenly went into sleep mode. It refused to wake up. I had to force reboot it. It was able to load up just fine after that. I looked in the event logs and found nothing to determine the cause of the sudden sleep mode.
The only thing I did different is playing Angry Birds. I don't know if it being in HD had anything to do with it, or if Google Chrome just experienced a glitch that affected the entire system somehow, though I don't know the odds of that. Another thought I had was the problem was due to a storm outside. It was raining and thundering outside. A friend of mine suggested the issue may have been due to a partial power loss that was enough to knock the computer into sleep mode, but not strong enough to cause a full on power outage.
I've been getting the BSOD sporadically for quite some time now and I am finally fed up. Here is the Stop error information:
Problem signature:
Problem Event Name:BlueScreen
OS Version:6.1.7601.2.1.0.768.3
Locale ID:1033
I've attached the dump file referenced above.
Here are some details on my machine:
Gateway DX4300
AMD Phenom(tm) II X4 810 Processor 2.60 GHz

Windows 7 - 64-bit, full-retail
Hardware purchased in 2010, Windows 7 upgrade occurred early 2011. Also, there are a ton of files in my minidump in addition to the one attached, is this normal?
