I bought a new Laptop (ASUS X53SV) and as soon as I got it I made a recovery disc (turned out several discs not one). Now I was wondering what happens if I had to replace my Hard Drive? It has a recovery partition to reset it to the default factory settings if the system becomes corrupt etc, which I hope I will never use. However, if the drive needs to be replaced (all drives go one day!!) then the recovery partition is no good any more.Pre-installed on the Laptop was the usual software bundles with trialware but more importantly the OS, in my case Windows 7.Would these recovery discs make the(eventual)new Hard Drive a REAL copy of the current one as it was when I first got it AND usable with all the software? My concern is for the copy of Windows 7.What else should I do? How could I save the Windows 7 OS? The manufacture doesn't give real discs any more!! Apart from back up discs, should I make another Recovery one again? If so, how often should I do these?
So whats the difference between installing a stock driver over a modified manufacture one cause my video driver is alittle outdated and i check on the website that a new one was release so should i uninstall that one and install the new one or just leave it as it be?
I'm currently using the Network Meter gadget to monitor IP addresses and usage but it doesn't react to IP changes quickly. Is there a small app that can sit in the tray and give a pop-up when the external IP changes - I want something that gives a visible indication, could be free or will pay. Will replace Network Meter if something that does much the same can be found. Network Monitor II gadget is a little too big.
both my laptop and PC have windows 7 64bit installed. but when i try to install the sims 3 on the PC it gives the "the version of this file is not compatible with the version of windows you are running. please check your computer information to see whether you need an 32bit or 64 bit version" Both computers are using the exact same OS installation disk. How can i get these programs to run?
I just recently re-installed Windows 7 Ultimate, and I'm having that damn security issue "Destination Folder Access Denied" "You'll need to provide administrator permission to copy to this folder" and unable to save text files. I've been going at this for hours and hours, I can't find a fix I've tried editing Properties > Security > Advanced Permissions and Ownerships, don't work. I've tried the "Take Ownership" command. Still doesn't work. I've been through a few re-installs because I've just been hammering out as much as I can do.
always having to give programs like autoruns permission to edit the registry and protected files, not to mention the popup asking if i want to open this and that. I want to disable this function, how?
I am having a very strange problem with Windows 7 x64.I need to use a sort of mathematical software that was developed in Fortran and it is 32 bits. The program runs okay and gives good results. But after some time, the program works normally but instead of the previous results it starts to give me just 0 (zeros) even if i perform the same calculation than before.

So the question is in the title. Outlook 2013 gives me notifications about newly received junk mail which I don't want to see. Can I somehow disable that feature and let it notify me just when regular email is received?
Can anybody recommend a FREE photo editing software that will give me more versatility than IRFANVIEW. I would like to be able to put different faces on different photos and that sort of stuff. Also when my mate sends me a photo of his latest fish catch, I would like to make his fish look more like a minnow, Do you get my drift?
I'm looking for a high quality dipole wireless adapter antenna for a laptop for this year at school. There are various wifi's all over campus.I'd like to get the best USB dipole antenna that will give me the farthest range to have a larger variety of signals. What do I need to look for? Does higher dbi mean further range? But it's only 3dbi, (per their website) but I've seen other wireless adapters around 5 & 6dbi. I was looking for a 300mbps data transfer, but the 5 & 6dbi antennas I see are only 150mbps..But I want something just like the Hawking, just an antenna that plugs right in a USB port.So is there a better option for further range than the Hawking?
I just run a virus scan and it found 4 files called NotAVirus.adware although I did notice it ended .win32 (this could be to deter people from removing it?). I decided to just run the recommended setting of deleting them and then automatically run a clean up afterwards. I attempted to access my internet using Netgear wireless smart wizard and it said it was unable to run the task, I attempted to connect through my network and sharing center and it said the page file was missing then windows posted a bad image message. My computer is pretty new (about 3 months). I've restarted and everything seems to be fine now. A cache error?
I'm running windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit and my hardware specs are: GPU: Evga Geforce GTS 450 (Recently updated to driver 304.48, I had stability issues with 301.42) CPU: Intel i5 2400 Motherboard: MSI P67A-G45 (B3) Ram: 4x2gb Corsair XMS3 @ 1600mhz "XMP" HDD: WD Caviar Green WD7500AARX 750gb PSU: Corsair TX 650
I moved the Users folders from C: to D: one by one using the location tab from the folder properties ...When I finished surprisingly I found that the "Users" folder name became "Desktop" with its icon ... Although in reality it is not !!!! it still has the name Users but shows Desktop ... When I click the path it shows that
Got a new home build Core I5 3rd gen at 4.4GB 8gb RAM, 120 SSD with the OS, 2GB HDD for anything else, ATI 7970. Win 7 home 64 bit. When I play games, I can play for a while, then I get Game name has stopped working, or a BSOD?
The title explains it all just restored my computer and now any kind of videos files i try to play give me the error "Class not registered" what do I do? I did update all my video drivers.
I recently went into my computer to install a Corsair H80 Water pump for the GPU. Anyhow, after i connected all the cables and turned on the computer again i did not have any sound. Even though im not an expert with computers, i'm pretty sure all the cables are connected right (but there is always a possibility i screwed up there).I do have sound devices, that is not the issue. After the first pc boot i had the Realtek digital output (realtek high definition audio) as the sound device. I went into the control panel and pressed sound. The previous audio device (that i had and was working) was there, but stated as "Not plugged in".So, my computer does not detect or react as i connect any headsets nor speakers. I also checked the audio in the mixer to see that it "plays sound" which i can confirm.I have searched the web for people with the same issues and tried a few "solutions" but none of them worked for me.They were:
1. Uninstall and reinstalling the drivers 2. Making sure i got the latest versions of the drivers 3. Turning on the front jack panel in the Realtek HD Audio Manager, which resulted with the speakers apparing to be connected and works according to the computer but still no sound. 4. Tried different speakers and headphones.
After trying several things im starting to believe it might be me who failed at connecting the computer. But if so i have no idea how to fix it, as it does not matter if i connect the audio cable instead of the HD audio cable or if i leave them unconnected. My os is Windows 7 Ultimate.I got an Intel motherbord DX58SO and my sound device/card is Realtek high definition audio?
Using Remote Desktop I can connect my one Win7 machine to my other Win7 machine.
However I don't see my "real" desktop - by that I mean the remote machine spawns a sort of virtual desktop and shows me that - I can't run the graphic card control panel for instance - and if a monitor is plugged into the remote machine you just see the login screen not what I'm doing.
So is it possible to see the 'real' desktop using Microsoft Remote Desktop? Or do I have to find some other remote control software - like VNC or something like that.

I had to reinstall Win 7 today. I then installed BitDefender Free 2009 and when I discovered that there was no real time component, I uninstalled with Revo Uninstaller Pro. When I rebooted, nothing appeared on my screen. I checked the display by connecting it to me laptop and it is fine. How do I solve this?
