How To Give Full Admin Permission

Dec 31, 2012

I just recently re-installed Windows 7 Ultimate, and I'm having that damn security issue "Destination Folder Access Denied" "You'll need to provide administrator permission to copy to this folder" and unable to save text files. I've been going at this for hours and hours, I can't find a fix I've tried editing Properties > Security > Advanced Permissions and Ownerships, don't work. I've tried the "Take Ownership" command. Still doesn't work. I've been through a few re-installs because I've just been hammering out as much as I can do.

How To Permanently Remove Programs From Start Menu

May 6, 2012

How to permanently remove/ban programs from the Start Menu Recent List? (Since manually deleting them will only get them back on once the program is started again.) The sole answer gave a suggestion to "switch the feature off". This answer though useful to some is not to me. Those programs which are indeed often used are on the desktop via a shortcut. Those on the start menu, are programs not often used or perhaps only used this week, then not used for 2 months, then used again later once. Therefore, as the reader suggested, to then, after turning the feature off and"add links to the programs you do want there manually" doesn't do it since I may not want them there 'next week' nor do I like the idea of me having to manually add them and manually remove them all the time. In Windows XP there used to be a little Microsoft program called TweakUI (Power Toys) that would do exactly that--controlled which programs could go there and which could not. Considering that TweakUi was originally made for the 1st or 2nd Windows version (before Windows 95) I hesitate to use it again for Windows 7.

The Application-specific Permission Settings Do Not Grant Local Activation Permission

Oct 13, 2010

I noticed in my Event Viewer that I have literally THOUSANDS of errors with source listed as DistributedCOM and event ID 10016. It logs an error event about 4 times per minute on this.

General info tab says:
"The application-specific permission settings do not grant Local Activation permission for the COM Server application with CLSID
{0C0A3666-30C9-11D0-8F20-00805F2CD064}

to the user *********** SID (S-1-5-21-1873924993-3643908058-657741459-1122) from address LocalHost (Using LRPC). This security permission can be modified using the Component Services administrative tool."

Windows 7 Asking For Permission Or Saying Do Not Have Permission To Make Changes

Jul 28, 2011

A wire came loose in my laptop charger so I asked for a replacement, but the supplier was adamant that there was something wrong with the port in my laptop, not the charger (he was wrong), so they took it away to fix. Anyway, a member of their staff took my hard drive out to copy a couple of my files to a disk for me as I needed them asap and couldn't get my laptop charging. Apparently that's all they did.Today I got my laptop back and things are not right. I am the administrator and there are no other user accounts on my computer. I am recognised as the administrator when I go on Control PanelAll Control Panel ItemsUser Accounts. But now all of a sudden I can't access Music, Pictures, Videos or Documents from the start menu. It just does nothing and says nothing when I click on them. I went on 'Computer' and tried to access them from the 'Libraries' menu at the left side. It didn't let me and didn't come up with any error message. It also didn't let me see the properties of them or do any of the other right-click options. It was saying at the bottom that they were completely empty, so I just deleted them and thought I'd make new ones with the 'Create Library' option. But when I go on this it says "Unable to create the file 'New Library.library-ms' Access is denied". I tried to restore the four Libraries from my recycle bin. It came up with a message saying "You'll need to provide administrator permission to move this folder". I clicked on continue, then a box popped up saying "Destination Folder Access Denied. You need permission to perform this action". Permission off who?! It's MY computer!

When I located my files the long way (Computer - Windows (C:) - Users ... etc.), all my documents were read-only and had a padlock on their icons, so I changed that. It won't let me view my pictures (says I don't have the correct permissions to access the file location). I can copy and paste the pictures so that it will let me view the copies, but it says things like "You'll need to provide administrator permission to copy this file" for everything I try to do. It gives me the option to continue, but it's annoying me because I have to keep giving permission for things that it should just let me do.

"you Don't Have Permission To Save To This Location. Contact The Administrator To Obtain Permission"

May 22, 2011

i am trying to create a new site in dreamweaver. the site will have a coldfusion extension (.cfm). i am the only user on my notebook so i have complete administrator privileges. however, when i try to save the site in the c:inetpubwwwroot folder (because that's where coldfusion applications are saved) i always get an error.the error says: "you don't have permission to save to this location. contact the administrator to obtain permission" i thought i was the administrator? i am unable to change the settings in the security tab in the properties panel either. that is the extent of my troubleshooting capabilities.

Small App That Can Sit In Tray And Give A Pop-up / When External IP Changes

Jan 16, 2012

I'm currently using the Network Meter gadget to monitor IP addresses and usage but it doesn't react to IP changes quickly. Is there a small app that can sit in the tray and give a pop-up when the external IP changes - I want something that gives a visible indication, could be free or will pay. Will replace Network Meter if something that does much the same can be found. Network Monitor II gadget is a little too big.

Manufacture Doesn't Give Real Discs Any More

Nov 7, 2012

I bought a new Laptop (ASUS X53SV) and as soon as I got it I made a recovery disc (turned out several discs not one). Now I was wondering what happens if I had to replace my Hard Drive? It has a recovery partition to reset it to the default factory settings if the system becomes corrupt etc, which I hope I will never use. However, if the drive needs to be replaced (all drives go one day!!) then the recovery partition is no good any more.Pre-installed on the Laptop was the usual software bundles with trialware but more importantly the OS, in my case Windows 7.Would these recovery discs make the(eventual)new Hard Drive a REAL copy of the current one as it was when I first got it AND usable with all the software? My concern is for the copy of Windows 7.What else should I do? How could I save the Windows 7 OS? The manufacture doesn't give real discs any more!! Apart from back up discs, should I make another Recovery one again? If so, how often should I do these?

Access Denied On Administrative Shares?

Aug 1, 2011

spent an hour searching for a topic like this - and I know the answer is out there - but I cannot find it. Can anyone point me to the right answer?I have 2 Windows 7 PCs on a switch. I can see the "Users" folder on the other PC over the network from both sides. But trying to open the administrative share (SHCPCC$) Windows throws me "Access denied".From another computer I can get my hands on - no problem. I can access the admin share without hassle. Why is one computer allowed, another not? I cannot figure out a difference between the systems. Small maybe - the user names I'm trying from, is the same on both computers. But I even try using login account "SHCPCSirHC" from SH2PC, and vice versa, "SH2PCSirHC" from SHCPC, passwords are the same. Nothing, just "Access denied", as if the passwords were wrong.
