Is there a way to force Windows to save a programs progress (ie a rendering program such as Revit) and restart, similar to the actions it takes before the computer shuts down after the battery has died?

I am new to Windows 7 and I have a question that I need an answer to if at all possible.I was told there is a way to force a program to use all of my processors and Ram memory. I need to figure out if this possible and what I have to do to accomplish this.I am wanting to force a video game to use all four processors and all/ more Ram memory than the game was designed to use. According the Game manufacturs/ producer I was informed to use Msconfig to set up this procedure and for it to work properly. Is this correct or is there a different way I can force this game to work better?

View 7 Replies View RelatedI have an HP pavilion DV8 laptop, and a logitech wireless USB mouse, as well as the standard laptop touch pad.
So, I can change my mouse settings in the control panel, as well as my logitech app, and as it stands they intermix slightly (The control panel effects the logitech app's sensitivity). Basically I turn my control panel speed settings up (all the way, I shouldn't have to touch the touchpad 5 times to navigate across the screen), and on the logitech app I turn the sensitivity down most of the way (any faster and its a bit squirrely to use).
The problem is, whenever I restart my computer the control panel mouse settings revert back to being REALLY slow, and it is getting a bit annoying to have to go into the control panel every time I start up.
some of my programs/games can't save to a folder unless I run them as admin this there a better way ?For example: a game can not store files in c:/program files/the game/userdataIt's annoying to have tun run them as admin.
I bought a 64 GB SSD Hard and I was wondering if I could store programs like printer settings ,Bluetooth ect ect on a SD card which I will leave in.I have already put my music and pictures on USB but not so sure how to use them (Associate) altogether properly?

The game suddenly freezes and I wait to see if it shoud come back, and it never does.So I press Ctrl-Alt-Del to close the program, and the status says "Not responding" I close the program and wait like 5-10 sec until I can see it's closed in "task manager" and i try to start the program again.This happens, the cursor shows that it's "thinking" for like 2-3 sec, then nothing happens. It has Windows 7, and the first thing I did was go to download Firefox so I could get rid of IE.I want to save the Firefox program in Program Files, where I always used to save programs, and it tells me I "don't have permission" to save and would I like to save to the downloads folder instead. This is making me crazy, as I'm the ONLY user on the computer, it's brand new, and I should have the "administrator" permissions! How in the heck do I make it able for me to be the administrator/have access to everything? I should install/uninstall immediately to protect myself regarding this new laptop, What is the best anti-spyware out there these days? And someone told me I should NOT use Norton. My laptop came with it--should I automatically uninstall it?

Frankly, I find the Media Center horrible implementation for what I want to do.

found the section I needed for changing to another drive.

I have a question that I have been unable to solve but first I will start off by saying I am running boot camp on a mac, just so there is no confusion. I am an architecture student and am using a program called Revit to render 3D models regularly. Due to the long render times find myself stuck waiting many hrs up to many days with my computer tied up rendering. Recently, after a lapse in smart thinking, my battery went dead and I thought I had lost 4 hrs of rendering time. I then disappointingly restarted my computer to restart the render but found that Windows had saved, as a last effort to maintain my program files and unsaved data, the progress of the render and it continued upon reboot.

Every time this happens, the bulk of my programs won't launch - apart from IE, file explorer and native applications like the Task Manager. It's very strange - I try to launch an application, it attempts to load then seems to die, although in the task manager I can always see each instance of the program I've tried to start, with very low memory footprint.his has just happened to me again this morning, and after an hour or so of rebooting, eventually the applications have started working again, without any change having been made by me. I have run a defrag and disk check and also updated Windows 7 with all available updates, but the issue remains. I also switched the firewall off and still had the same problem.

hat am I doing wrong? The code stops after explorer.exe is restarted. I know this because the command prompt does not show the echo "-explorer restarted". When I look at the command prompt, the cursor seems to be on the next line, but without the normal C:UsersJohnSmith> in front of it (there is nothing in front of the cursor).
Also, if I include the command "exit" at the end of my .bat file, it doesn't seem to work. Even though if I type in exit into command prompt, the window closes.
The program in question was Roxio Creator 2010. I restarted the computer to complete the process.An error message appeared " windows could not be started as CPSC Common Tools2 is missing...". I chose to cancel, but then the password request was on screen as normal, and everything seems to be OK.How can that be; do I need take further action?

When I try to change it by right clicking on the program and select "open with..." and then select the right program it either starts opening all the programs with the selected program, or it doesn't save the program I want to "open with...". Also all the programs have changed their icon on the desktop What do I do? Do I have to reinstall every thing, or is there a magical way that I can get Google Chrome to open when I click on "Google Chrome" and not Windows Media Center?

Our environment is as follows:Multiple servers running Windows 2008 & 2008 R2, some VMware servers (including our file server). Windows 7 x64 came preloaded on a brand new Lenovo think-pad, 4gb memory. This occurs on 4 different laptops. This problem ALSO occurs in exactly the same way on an HP Compaq x64 desktop running Windows 7 32. All systems are fully patched & up to date on SP's. Running IP 4 & 6 on all servers & Windows 7 machines Connected to GB Cisco switch.We run login scripts via GPOs that map drives (with net use commands) to 3 shares on our file-server, drives G, H and S.A fourth mapped drive to an IBM I-series does NOT experience these issues.
In Windows Explorer, mapped drives may or may not appear with red X's, but when clicked on they hang with a spinner and the green bar at the top of Explorer begins to run. This occurs randomly, but usually not right after boot up. It can take over a minute to complete. Also, in Word, which has references to these drives in file locations, file opening and saves can be very slow as it attempts to access these shares.This issue has delayed our roll out of Windows 7.Its unacceptably slow and cannot be used in a production environment.We have tried every suggestion we can find on the Internet:Turned off auto-tuning, indexing, thumbnails, set auto-disconnect to the max (both 99999 and ffffffff). Server & clients. No luck. Changed properties on the mapped drives to optimize for documents...no change.Changes setting on the network cards to disable flow control, set static link speed & duplex. Network drivers have been updated. Even tried using our wireless network and disabling wired connection...no change.All bios and hardware updates are completed...no change.Turned on and off network discovery..no change.
Disabled SMB2 on servers & clients...no change.Disabled firewalls, and unloaded antivirus (Trend)...no change.Safe boot with networking & clean boot with no services other than Microsoft...no change.
I know the progress bar wasn't built in to IE9 but I cant do without it and I did have it somehow whether it was a third party item or what don't know but its gone. I know there is a paid one at Xinify but how to restore the stanard progress/status bar to MIE9?

Before I didn't face this kind of problem it's happening after giving my Mother Board for servicing because of some power problem. I tried in all possible ways I know to fix this problem like reinstalling all codecs and programs, I also reinstalled my Windows but there is no change. I'm using Windows 7 Service Pack 1 with latest updates. Except this almost every thing is normal.

The top line of text is from IE9 and the one below is from firefox both from the same computer. Any idea why the top one is a little messed up? I can honestly say I only noticed it on this one website and only the headlines. I'm using a XFX Radeon 6950 video card using the latest catalyst drivers.

None of them are upgrade versions. I've tried installing on a fresh WD Raptor and an Intel G25 SSD. All other drives have been disconnected. I've moved my memory around and tried with one stick. My mainboard has the latest official BIOS, although there is a new beta.
I ran the Windows 7 compatibility test and didn't see anything that would cause this problem.I have searched the internet and have not been able to find a solution sonstalling Windows XP has never been a problem, just Windows 7, always with the same problem.This is one of the few times when I have not been able to look around a find an existing answer to a problem and I am stumped.
I have Windows 7 on my HP Pavilion dv9820us laptop. From time to time when I shut it down, it will go to a screen that says "Operations in progress" and then something about that it will shut down when it is completed. However, no matter how long I leave it (up to 24 hours) it never finishes. I always end up having to hold the power button to shut it down.
View 2 Replies View RelatedWhen I save files from programs (aka Word, Photoshop, anything)onto my Desktop, I cannot see them directly from the actual desktop. I can only see them when I open up Explorer, and click on the Desktop tab. Then all my files are visible. I thought they were hidden...but they apparently aren't.It possibly seems like a refresh error.I did find a way around this..I go to Control Panel >> Appearance and Personalization >> Under Folder Options >> Show Hidden Files and Folders. I click on Reset folders, Apply, and then OK, and my missing files pop up on my actual desktop.But from then on, any new files I save are only visible in Explorer again. I don't want to go to Control Panel everytime I have to save something to the desktop? I've run Norton and Microsoft Essentials and I have no viruses. What can I do?I just found out I can also see my files after pressing f5 (refresh)so I guess the problem is HOW do I get my computer to refresh the desktop automatically?

The bar I am talking about shows up at the bottom of the screen and it shows the name of the program file in bold letters and at the right end of the bar you have three options: "RUN" "SAVE" or ("save as)" "CANCEL" Or and "X" at the edge of the bar.
