I just recently built my newest creation and stumbled upon this error when attempting to format my C drive. These are the specs:
AMD Phenom II x2 555
Gigabyte 6850 Radeon
Gigabyte MA770T-UD3
4GB Ram
and finally 1TB Seagate internal HDD
This is the whole error:Windows can't format C "Check to see that the disk and drive are connected properly, make sure that the disk is not read-only, and then try again. For more information, search Help for read-only files and how to change them."When I enter BIOS it sees the drive without issues. It does, however, see it as an IDE although it's a SATA. Is that a big issue? i don't see SATA drives anywhere on the BIOS. Back to the issue. Have any of you encountered this specific problem? If so, how'd you get around it? I tried setting the drive as primary, switched it from SATA slot 4 to SATA slot 0 and then slot 1 but no luck, always the same error.
I had to install windows 7 in my pc.....bt while installing a message always shows up saying "windows could not format a partition on disk 0.an error occured while preparing the partition for installation.error code 0x80070057"my hard drive is samsung HD502H(500GB) and have a partition of 93.1GB.
I have a 250gb drive that has not been formatted. I have an old H45 Tech enclosure from 10+ years ago, and had placed it in there to prep for NAS, as the NAS was not recognizing it either. Because I could not get it to read in the h45 box-- I was able to get it to format 128gb's of it, but I wanted the whole thing formatted to use all 238...gb of the drive, so, I bought a dynex 3.5" disc enclosure, it just arrived today, and while it read, and installed on my laptop, it would not allow me to format it. In going into storage mgmt, it said that it was not allocated, and asked me to select an option-- mbr, or as a secondary.
In looking at the notes, it said that the secondaries are only good for larger than 2tb drives. So, I selected the mbr, and got a message stating there is an i/o error in attempting to format it. Now, in plugging it in to check the message for specifics, it won't even recognize it, so now I can't even get to tell you the specific message. The pins are set to read cable select. I'm running Win7 Ultimate on a GW-M285 convertible, 500gb drive, 4gb ram.
I just got a new hard drive and a dvd drive because both my hard drive and dvd drive both died. So I got it all set up in my comp and everything seemed to be going fine but I keep getting the windows could not format a partition on disk 0 The error occurred while preparing the installation. error code 0x80070057.
I've just purchased a new desktop Extra Value Desktop PC - Desktops | Ebuyer.com along with an OEM Windows 7 64bit. This is a fresh install on a brand new PC. Every time I get the same error message "windows could not format the partition on disk 0. The error occurred while preparing the partition selected for installation. Error code: 0x80070057". I've just removing RAM and still same problem. Even tried install XP and after 3 hours fomating the drive it it came up with this error ""Setup was unable to format the partition. The disk may be damaged."
I am trying to do a clean install of windows 7 onto my laptop, and I keep getting the error, "windows could not format a partition on disk 0. The error occurred while preparing the partition selected for installation. Error code: 0x80070057" . I have reformatted the hard drive and tried clicking next from there. This is the 64-bit version of windows 7
A couple of weeks ago a storm blew through and knocked out my power for a moment, then it came back on. Within a few seconds, another wind gust and it ripped our power lines down.Got power back a few days later, and have been busy trying to fix this on my own but to no avail.
My computer booted into system recovery tools, start up problem fixes etc. none of them worked, leading to the decision to format my SSD and try to reinstall windows 7. I get to "windows is copying files" and it stays stuck at 0% for about a minute or two, then I get "Windows could not format a partition on disk 1. The error occured while preparing the partition selected for installation. Error code: 0x8007057.
I concluded that I should try deleting the partition and creating a new one. That however, got me this message:Failed to delete the selected partition. [Error: 0x8007017].So I decided to try and format the drive, to this result:
Failed to format the selected partition. [Error: 0x8007057].
Same result as when I was trying to install. Puzzles me! I've still got a lot to learn.I've tried removing unnecessary RAM, same results.Having the same problem with a Vista 64 bit install disk, and have tried to install on my SSD and HDD with no differences.
System:
ASUS Sabertooth X58 MoBo Core i7 920 6gb DDR3 1600mhz corsair RAM RiDATA 32GB SSD (OS drive) 1TB Western Digital HDD and one other 500GB HDD (I forget the brand)
I'm not very used to this so I'm a bit lost... My computer has two disks. Everytime I try to tell it to format the partitions I create from them and then install Windows 7 on one of those partitions, it tells me it can't and gives me this error code: 0x80300001. I just don't know what to do. I don't even know if I will be able to access the second internal disk drive after the installation. Is there a particular setup like SCSI or RAID or something.
I recently copied my HD's content to an SSD. Setup boot from the new drive w/o a hitch. Decided to format my old HD, and boom! Blue screen. After restart, windows wanted to search for solutions to the problem: this caused my computer to freeze up and blue screen again.
Can I format a Hard Drive with Windows 7 using a 2000 format disk. If so, what are the prompts i see and action on boot-up before I use the format C. Done it before but just forgot

If I use a commercial software like Drive Scrubber to clean my HD, will a Win 7 Upgrade Discboot ? I want to eliminate any possible virus/malware. Is there any advantage to using commercial software to format, or is the reinstall format listed in the tutorials as effective? My concern is that Kaspersky Internet Security 2012 (KIS) had corrupted data bases and after removal and reinstallation did not perform well. I could not download anything, e.g. CCleaner and received Certificate Error questions on certain websites. Also, I would like a fresh registry to insure previous programs like Chrome, Firefox, KIS, remnants are eliminated.
I have a few questions and one of them is, what is the difference between an unconditional format and a diskpart's Clean All in the command prompt. When I read their definitions online I don't know what they differ in.
I have a Samsung Ultrabook with a 128GB SDD. I put my Win 7 64 bit on a thumb drive, and ran the installer. I deleted the existing partitions (including the OEM hidden for recovery). I ended up with on 119GB unallocated drive, and clicked next. It progressed to the "copying 0%" window, followed by a "cannot format partition 0 - error 0x80070057".After searching for a few hours and landing here, I tried the clean all routine. When I get to the clean all command, I get "DiskPart has encountered an error: The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error".I gave up, booted to Acronis, and restored the original drive image - which worked. But, the fact remains, I cannot get a "clean" retail copy of Windows 7 on this system.
I am giving Fedora (Ext4) the boot from my 150G VelociRaptor and replacing it with Windows 7.What is the difference between a 'Quick' format and a 'Full' format. Does a quick format simply rewrite the FAT and a full format write 0's to the sectors? The reason I ask, is that I am concerned that the Linux Ext4 formatting may leave artifacts which I can do without. So, bite the bullet and go the long route, have lunch and a nap or take the quick way out?
I have a Dell Inspiron 15. I can run Oblivion on my computer, but I can't run Fallout 3. It installs fine, but when I get to the starting menu and try to start a new game, it crashes.
I've got a 1gb Pendrive, used to work.. but it spewed up 'Corrupt files' errors, and then finally gave up completely. It won't open, and asks to format it, I've tried every option it gives me but it won't format.. Supposedly, it's got 0 bytes of space, but on Disk management, it's 969MB RAW format, but it's a healthy primary partition. Formatting isn't doing anything, so.. It's pretty important! I need the USB to flash my BIOS, which will then unlock my CPU settings (It's a modded BIOS Btw.) so I can Overclock my E6300. So.
I was just given a laptop running on windows 7 but it still has the previous owners files. I was wondering which is the best way about making the computer 'clean' as new. I dont have the Windows 7 installation CD. Can i 'format' the computer and just leave the operating system? and how do i do that?
i can't get my photos to copy to disk in E drive on laptop.Error message: Windows cant read the disc in drive E: Make sure that the disc uses a format that windows recognizes. If the disc is unformatted you need to format it before using it. I can't format the disk.
