The error occurred while preparing the partition selected for installation. Error code: 0x80070057" . I have reformatted the hard drive and tried clicking next from there. I've just purchased a new desktop Extra Value Desktop PC - Desktops | Ebuyer.com along with an OEM Windows 7 64bit. This is a fresh install on a brand new PC. Every time I get the same error message "windows could not format the partition on disk 0. The error occurred while preparing the partition selected for installation. Error code: 0x80070057". I've just removing RAM and still same problem. Even tried install XP and after 3 hours fomating the drive it it came up with this error ""Setup was unable to format the partition. The disk may be damaged."

I have a Samsung Ultrabook with a 128GB SDD. I put my Win 7 64 bit on a thumb drive, and ran the installer. I deleted the existing partitions (including the OEM hidden for recovery). I ended up with on 119GB unallocated drive, and clicked next. It progressed to the "copying 0%" window, followed by a "cannot format partition 0 - error 0x80070057".After searching for a few hours and landing here, I tried the clean all routine. When I get to the clean all command, I get "DiskPart has encountered an error: The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error".I gave up, booted to Acronis, and restored the original drive image - which worked. But, the fact remains, I cannot get a "clean" retail copy of Windows 7 on this system.

A couple of weeks ago a storm blew through and knocked out my power for a moment, then it came back on. Within a few seconds, another wind gust and it ripped our power lines down.Got power back a few days later, and have been busy trying to fix this on my own but to no avail.
My computer booted into system recovery tools, start up problem fixes etc. none of them worked, leading to the decision to format my SSD and try to reinstall windows 7. I get to "windows is copying files" and it stays stuck at 0% for about a minute or two, then I get "Windows could not format a partition on disk 1. The error occured while preparing the partition selected for installation. Error code: 0x8007057.
I concluded that I should try deleting the partition and creating a new one. That however, got me this message:Failed to delete the selected partition. [Error: 0x8007017].So I decided to try and format the drive, to this result:
Failed to format the selected partition. [Error: 0x8007057].
Same result as when I was trying to install. Puzzles me! I've still got a lot to learn.I've tried removing unnecessary RAM, same results.Having the same problem with a Vista 64 bit install disk, and have tried to install on my SSD and HDD with no differences.
System:
ASUS Sabertooth X58 MoBo
Core i7 920
6gb DDR3 1600mhz corsair RAM
RiDATA 32GB SSD (OS drive)
1TB Western Digital HDD
and one other 500GB HDD (I forget the brand)

I recently purchased a new Lenovo. I use Windows live photo gallery to import my photos from my iphone. Worked just fine until I recently upgraded to the new iphone 4S. Now when I import the photos, I cannot do anything with the photos. Can't save, rotate, edit. I had no idea except to reinstall the Windows operating system. I brought the computer home to see if it was the phone...no. I emailed one of the pics from Windows Live to another device..there's nothing wrong with the pics on another device.

My relatively new seagate harddrive failed on me last week so I requested a replacement. It arrived (refurbished model..) and upon putting it in and trying to install Windows, the following occurs.
After selecting custom install windows attempts to copy files. It hangs at 0% for 10-15 minutes and then spits out an error message stating "Windows could not format a partition on disk 0. The error occurred while preparing the partition selected for installation. Error code: 0x80070057".
And then I notice a new 100 mb partition appears. I cannot get by this step. I cannot install windows onto this harddrive. I've done some searching but most solutions require being able to boot into a functioning version of windows, which I cannot as the drive is "new".
The motherboard is an Asrock B75M running Uefi bios The attempted install of windows is Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 The harddrive is a Seagate 1TB drive

Awhile ago I got myself two SSD drives and installed Windows 7 on one of them. I didn't move over my OS from my old 1TB drive or anything I just did a clean install. Today I finally finished making sure I'd transfered over all my files from the disk and I was about to format it when I got the message that can be seen in the above picture. It seems the old Windows (D: drive) is still set as the System drive and my new Windows OS (SSD C: drive) is just set as Boot but not System.
This makes me unable to format it and I have no clue on how to fix this. Does anyone know how I can give my new SSD drive the System status so I can format the old drive?

I have a Dell XPS 430 that came with Windows Vista and a Windows 7 upgrade disk. I set up my main hard drive with Windows 7 on one partition, Linux on another partition, and a third partition for storage. I recently needed more space for Windows, and no longer needed Linux, so using the Windows 7 disk manager I deleted the Linux partition and extended the Win partition using the newly unallocated space.
Upon restarting my machine, I am no longer able to boot into windows but instead am presented with the message:
GRUB Loading, please wait...
Error 22
I have a Windows 7 disk that I am using to access the repair utility, which I have run countless times. I have tried severel of the tutorials to rebuild BCD and FixMBR, etc etc. Frankly I am getting lost in all the commands and not even sure what does what anymore!

I am trying to install windows 7 ultimate x64 on a new build, I am getting the error in thread title when it begins to install. I've scoured this forum to see what others had similar issues and tried the fixes. I tried with one stick of ram, tried re-burning the iso, i've used 3 different discs one 32 bit the other 2 x64. The funny thing is, I have installed ubuntu 10.10 succesfully from a usb flash drive, but could not install ubuntu from a disc. The ubuntu cd was not a burnt copy but a legit disc i ordered from canonical. the windows install wizard lets me create partitions and delete them, it even looks like it tried to format the hard drive because when i go to attempt to install again evidence of the previous failure is there as a system and primary partition. since the 10.10 installation from flash drive went without a problem i do not believe there is a problem with the hard drive. the dvd drive is sata and is connected properly.
my system info is as follows
amd athlon II x4 630 cpu at 2.8
4gb ram
asus m4a78lt-m motherboard
wd caviar black 640gb HD sata
lite-on dvd multi recorder sata
ati xfx 512 mb video card
my boot settings go to the hdd first and i tried using the popup menu to boot from disc, for some reason it looks like it has a problem writing from the dvd drive to the hard disk.

In doing a clean install of Windows 7 Ultimate (32 bit), an error appears when it gets to "Expanding Windows Files". Error 0x80070057. Had a look to see if any others had the same problem and many did. I've tried what others have suggested including wiping the hard drive etc etc. Now the strange thing is I have installed Windows 7 Ultimate (32 bit) (same as the one above) already, on the same laptop, with the same hard drive and everything and it installed without a problem!!

I normally scan my document directly to the WLM to send it. It was working fine previously but today it gave me the following error:
An unknown error has occurred.
Server: 'mail.optusnet.com.au'
Windows Live Mail Error ID: 0x80070057
Protocol: SMTP
Port: 25
Secure(SSL): No
I've tried going offline, delete the file in the outbox then relaunch WLM and go online again but it didnt work. Whenever the scanner finished scanning, attaches the image of the scanned document on the email and it activates the log on screen for Windows Live Messenger as well.
