If I use a commercial software like Drive Scrubber to clean my HD, will a Win 7 Upgrade Discboot ? I want to eliminate any possible virus/malware. Is there any advantage to using commercial software to format, or is the reinstall format listed in the tutorials as effective? My concern is that Kaspersky Internet Security 2012 (KIS) had corrupted data bases and after removal and reinstallation did not perform well. I could not download anything, e.g. CCleaner and received Certificate Error questions on certain websites. Also, I would like a fresh registry to insure previous programs like Chrome, Firefox, KIS, remnants are eliminated.
I have a few questions and one of them is, what is the difference between an unconditional format and a diskpart's Clean All in the command prompt. When I read their definitions online I don't know what they differ in.
I am giving Fedora (Ext4) the boot from my 150G VelociRaptor and replacing it with Windows 7.What is the difference between a 'Quick' format and a 'Full' format. Does a quick format simply rewrite the FAT and a full format write 0's to the sectors? The reason I ask, is that I am concerned that the Linux Ext4 formatting may leave artifacts which I can do without. So, bite the bullet and go the long route, have lunch and a nap or take the quick way out?
I have a Dell Inspiron 15. I can run Oblivion on my computer, but I can't run Fallout 3. It installs fine, but when I get to the starting menu and try to start a new game, it crashes.
I've got a 1gb Pendrive, used to work.. but it spewed up 'Corrupt files' errors, and then finally gave up completely. It won't open, and asks to format it, I've tried every option it gives me but it won't format.. Supposedly, it's got 0 bytes of space, but on Disk management, it's 969MB RAW format, but it's a healthy primary partition. Formatting isn't doing anything, so.. It's pretty important! I need the USB to flash my BIOS, which will then unlock my CPU settings (It's a modded BIOS Btw.) so I can Overclock my E6300. So.
I was just given a laptop running on windows 7 but it still has the previous owners files. I was wondering which is the best way about making the computer 'clean' as new. I dont have the Windows 7 installation CD. Can i 'format' the computer and just leave the operating system? and how do i do that?
I recently discovered I had a zero access rootkit virus on my laptop. I now need to format/reinstall my windows7.o I do not make any mistakes and to make sure I get rid of that virus.
I have a compaq laptop cq62 255nr with win7 home. I made a bootable USB stick iso of win7. I have 4 partitions on my hdd. 1st is system. 2nd is C. 3rd is D/recovery. 4th is hp tools. Should I format the entire thing first or just parts of it or leave it be and let the installation program handle it? This is the first time I've done this. I actually ran the setup.exe from the USB stick after the computer was already running. It asked where to put the OS. I specified "c" and left everything else in place, but I wanna know which is better...what I did or full format followed by booting from stick.
I just recently built my newest creation and stumbled upon this error when attempting to format my C drive. These are the specs:
AMD Phenom II x2 555 Gigabyte 6850 Radeon Gigabyte MA770T-UD3 4GB Ram and finally 1TB Seagate internal HDD
This is the whole error:Windows can't format C "Check to see that the disk and drive are connected properly, make sure that the disk is not read-only, and then try again. For more information, search Help for read-only files and how to change them."When I enter BIOS it sees the drive without issues. It does, however, see it as an IDE although it's a SATA. Is that a big issue? i don't see SATA drives anywhere on the BIOS. Back to the issue. Have any of you encountered this specific problem? If so, how'd you get around it? I tried setting the drive as primary, switched it from SATA slot 4 to SATA slot 0 and then slot 1 but no luck, always the same error.
I want to know how to format my C when I want to install Windows 7?When I format it normaly it formats, I think, very quick like on XP when you choose to format in NTFS quick way which I don't want so how to truly format my C partition?

I'm looking to purchase a device that will have Windows Embedded on it. I' like to remove this from the embedded chip and was wondering how would I go about formatting this chip? The device has USB ports, but no CD rom drive.
SO, problem is: I got this USB, it worked very well 'til some days ago. I can't format it, no matter what I try, e.g. formatting it using different formats, formatting it using Computer Management, formatting it in safe mode. None of these things seem to work for me, and I have no idea why. There's also something else to it: before it became unusable and not format-able, it was somewhere around 4GB, and now, when I want to format it, it gives only the option to format it using the capacity of 12.5MB, which doesn't work anyway. I've tried looking at unpartioned spaces in it, but there aren't any, so I completely have no idea how to go through this problem.
It ran okay for a while, but started to freeze up. Anything that was in the RAM would load fine, but nothing new would load from the HDD.I decided to install Windows 7 x32 on the machine to see if anything changed. It seemed to run normally, so I thought that maybe something went awry in the first installation.I tried installing x64 again, but this time, when I went to format the drive, I got the following error:"Windows cannot format your drive (0x80070057)"I've tried this several times, deleted all partitions on the drive, and tried again. I get the same error each time. I'm beginning to think maybe the drive is faulty.
