One morning, my firefox would hangup and crash when opening some website. I would then forcefully shut it down and restart it and it would hang again if I would restore the old pages. I thought to update firefox and I got the option to update from v3.6 to v4.0.
When I updated, the pages that would hangup the browser would now open, but with text not appearing. I cannot remember those websites specifically now that all of them open in the latest version. But one link I remember is this: Dialog box buttons/text is missing and Microsoft management - Microsoft Answers
This link would hangup the browser v3.6, But after update to v4.0, it now opens but appears like in the screenshot bellow: (Notice the text in search box and bellow the post)
Apart from this, I notice this text missing in some dialog boxes like - when saving files in some applications, and also during installations of Programs, Screenshot examples bellow:

In a Windows 7 environment, is there a way that I can store into a function or hotkey of sorts, a string of text that I type repeatedly so that I don't have to keep typing it? I have probably a half dozen or so of these sentences that, if this is possible, could really save me some time, since my typing skills aren't my greatest asset.

For some reason, the text is not showing up in the dialog boxes, which makes it impossible to download software unless you have a VERY good memory about where the "Next" button is. The buttons show, but absolutely no text. Anyone had this problem

I recently added started using AeroVG Windows 7 's transparent theme and I like it very much. But it changed something and I would like to change it back. A picture would describe it much better so here it is:These are menus that would appear when you right click on your pinned applications. What I would like to do is to remove the black "glow" outline of the font color.

I currently have an issue with my PC where all the text under desktop icons and dialogue boxes is missing, and instead there is a mumbo jumbo of lines and misshapen boxes in control panel, so its impossible for me to try and do anything. I tried doing /sfc scannow in a cmd prompt, but it told me I do not have administrative privileges when I was logged in on my admin account. This happened after I had to boot into safe mode when some windows updates were installed previously. After they were removed, the BSOD remained, but I managed to log on by using 'Boot using last known good configuration'. I have also tried using a system restore point to before the updates were installed but to no avail. Start up repair also drew a blank and I can't think of anything else to do.

- I uninstalled IE9, then after restart, I can no longer see text in warning messages, windows titles, taskbar clock, or even icon names, something like that but without start menu even showing:
- I have tried all of these and still having the problem:
1- Rebooting
2- Scanning for viruses
3- Running SFC /scannow tool
4- Updating/re-installing graphics card driver
5- Windows repair from disk
- When I tried to setup a new copy of windows, I could not because it does not show me the message of "Press any key to continue" but only a blinking white dash then goes to start windows on hard drive. AND YES !, I set the boot to CD drive.

I don't know why, but ever since I activated windows 7 ultimate on my new lenovo thinkpad x120e, there has been weird shadows on the windows interface (taskbar). Here are two pictures: The first one shows my Lenovo x120e destop with the weird shadows, the second one is from another one of my windows 7 pc's that do not have the shadows problem. As you can see, the taskbar on the first image had these weird shadows, and I want to make these shadows go away. All settings for appearance are the same for these two computers, but the one w/ the shadow problem has windows 7 ultimate, and the one without the problem (second image) has windows 7 home premium.first one (shadows-bad-my current x120e desktop):

I have this small but highly annoying problem on Windows 7 64 bit. Alt + space focuses on the menu bar of a program when I don't want to.I'm an audio engineer that uses my home laptop to edit audio and video with programs like Sony Vegas and Cakewalk Sonar. These programs rely heavily on the Alt commands for quick zooming and other functions, and the spacebar is the de facto key for play and pause. However, I find myself often hitting Alt + scroll wheel to zoom out of tracks horizontally (since Ctrl + scroll scrolls vertically and Shift + scroll scrolls horizontally) and then immediately hitting the spacebar to play, only to find that Windows interprets this as Alt + space and automatically jumps me to the file menu of the program, disrupting whatever I was doing. Remapping Alt for all the various functions in the programs would be inconvenient and very challenging.Apparently, the gods at Microsoft have tried their hardest to make it impossible to prevent Alt + space (or Alt + anything) from opening the file menu, and I mean it is IMPOSSIBLE to remap this shortcut. I've searched everywhere, used AutoHotKey and key remappers, but nothing can change this shortcut without disabling the Alt key altogether.

I suddenly started seeing this ugly font (see images below) on many webpages.I think this issue began right around the time I installed some other fonts, but I am not sure. Initially, I figured it was a Chrome thing but have since confirmed the issue extends to IE and Firefox, leading me to believe this is a Windows issue. By the time I tried to revert the changes via System Restore, it was too late (restore only went back a few days; maybe I need to adjust settings there?).I tried to reset the default font but Windows does not seem to respond to that. When I click "Restore to default font settings" the button greys out but nothing else happens. No dialog box and no change in the issue.

I deleted a few fonts from my font folder the other day and it seems that a few OS fonts were deleted in the process. Usually Ive got a message saying something along the lines of "this is a OS font" or "in use".Question:I noticed that my default calculator font is missing and was curious if anyone knows what font the calculator uses. I got a substituted font from the deleted one, but it looks terrible. If nobody knows the above.I went into a font deletion frenzy because I had some non-OS fonts that made my font list bulky and it took a while to scroll to the more used fonts. So I deleted some to combat this. Photoshop loads a lot faster as well due to less fonts(my little takeaway tip from all this)

I've found 2 rather general purpose tools/utilities, that is: ShellMenuView and ShellExView for editing the CMIs in Windows 7. So, I got some questions.
1) Are there any "better" tools than those 2?
2) Are there any tools which combine Shell and Shell Extension editing in only ONE tool?
3) Are there any Win 7 build-in tools (Command line or GUI)?

I had been running Windows XP 32-bit up until a couple days ago, and now that I've upgraded to Windows 7 64-bit I'm having various problems with games and other software. One of the bigger issues right now is that shadows look absolutely terrible in every game I've played (currently Borderlands, Shattered Horizon and Left 4 Dead). They look really blocky and grainy, especially when viewed up close. I never had this problem with XP.
I checked my graphics driver and it's up to date. The rest of the graphics seem to more or less be okay, as far as I can tell. I've checked to make sure that the shadows are turned up to full, and they are. Any ideas what's causing this or what I can do to try and fix it?

I recently became the proud owner of a used HP Pavilion HDX9300, and am having sporadic freezing issues. It's got Windows 7 Pro x64 SP1, but shipped with Vista. I got the thing sans-HDD, so once I installed the hard drive I opted for 7 over Vista. Despite coming out 8 months before Windows 7, HP declined to provide drivers for anything other than Vista, saying that the system was "end-of-life" (After 8 months? Really?). Anyway, I've got mostly Vista x64 drivers on it, and they seem to work fine; those that didn't, like the biometrics, have since been updated by their parent companies, so everything ostensibly works.
I'm not sure when it became unstable, as my average uptime was very short due to the slew of updates I had to download, and the restarts required by some. Anyway, it will crash often on opening/closing a dialogue box (midway through the Aero zoom-and-fade animation, so that the window is still visible, just smaller than its actual size), and occasionally mid-scroll in Chrome (as you know, laptops tend to have a unique cursor when the scroll section is being used; this cursor stays during the freeze). Sometimes I will have a few seconds to move the mouse around, though the system does not respond to mouseovers/clicks/et al. When using Chrome, the "scrolling" cursor (mentioned above) stays as the main cursor for this limited interaction. Then it freezes completely, sometimes even blackscreening. No sound can be heard, though the drive activity light occasionally blinks. The only way out of this is a reset (push-and-hold, not sure what the exact term is).
Here's the fun part, so bear with me. I checked the event viewer, and found the following:In addition to the customary "unexpected shutdown" notifications, there are three errors in particular that are present every time (XML will be posted later, if necessary):
These two at/during the crash:Event ID 3012: The performance strings in the Performance registry value is corrupted when process Performance extension counter provider. The BaseIndex value from the Performance registry is the first DWORD in the Data section, LastCounter value is the second DWORD in the Data section, and LastHelp value is the third DWORD in the Data section. Event ID 3011: Unloading the performance counter settings for service WmiApRpl (WmiApRpl) failed. The first DWORD in the Data section contains the error code. This one occurs, as far as I can tell, as soon as the thing boots, but before I log in:Event ID 1101: Audit events have been dropped by the transport. 0 Now, before you tell me to Admin CMD lodctr /r, I've already done that. Three times. The first time, it "completed successfully", then froze when I closed the window (right on the Aero effect, still/yet/ever). Second and third, it seemed fine, then crashed later with the same events reported (except for once; this was likely caused by my resetting it before it could record the event, as I've gotten the same events reported in later crashes).

Ok this is wierd I have a client using Office 2007 pro and some of her docs that she recently updated and the problem is when she prints the docs text that she deleted is printing over the top of new text she inserted into the doc.
Now when you have said doc open in WORD the deleted text is not there in any view and does NOT show in "print preview".
I opened said doc with WORDPAD and the deleted text shows up at the bottom so its still in the word doc somewhere imbedded so it prints over the top of the actual text in the doc.
