View 1 Replies View Relatedabout 2-5 minutes after logging in (fully loaded, I'm assuming) the computer seems to stop responding. If there's a scan, it will freeze, whatever I choose to do, it will ignore it, but the computer isn't frozen completely since I can still access the start menu. Computer works fine in safe mode. (I'm in safe-mode right now)

View 1 Replies View RelatedMy laptop screen was broken by being steped on over a year ago. It worked through my tv though with HDMI connection. Out of no where it stopped projecting image to my tv even though when I unpluged or pluged in the cable it would make noise and the screen would flash. This was in august. So I stopped using it and let the battery completely die and sit there dead as this corrected other problems in the past (such as a nasty pop up virus. So I found and RGB-PC cable and have hooked it up to my TV that way.Well now that I can see the screen I have tried to use it and it is constantly freezing every program it uses and will last for a long time including task manager. It has rendered the computer un-usable. I have run a virus scan, disk clean and defrag and it still won't work. I also checked the event viewer and the system log wouldn't open. So I saved and cleared it as per advice on this site. Still the same.
NOTE: When HDMI crashed the computer was turned off using the power button a few times as I could not see anything. Also on one of the boot ups when this problem started to occur and instead of the regular safe mode screen option coming up the other screen came up (something about doing a scan and fixing it) and I guess it timed out or I hit no or something but windows just booted up and haven't been able to use the laptop properlky since. Not sure if its related but figured it was worth mentioning

View 2 Replies View RelatedI bought a new computer. This is the first time I have used Windows 7 OS. I am wondering if I am having issues connecting to the internet bc of Windows 7. Another computer in the house uses Vista and has no problems. My computer is constantly "not responding". What do I need to do? Should I download a different OS.
View 3 Replies View RelatedMy computer was working fine until I downloaded the windows service pack 1. First it was every now & then but soon my computer was freezing up ( not responding ) and it was impossible to even complete a document. This happens in all applications. I noticed with each new window update the worse my computer got. Still under warranty I spent hours on the phone with DELL twice, finally I did a fresh re-install of windows 7 professional. After the fresh install everything was fine. UNTIL I downloaded the windows updates, it started to 'not respond' again. I uninstalled the updates. The not responding issue is gone but I am concerned about windows security updates. Do I need them? I have contacted windows about this issue many times over the past several months with no response.
View 3 Replies View RelatedFor the past couple of days my computer has been freezing every time I open a new program or go to click on something. Using itunes is especially problematic because i will be listening to music and every thirty seconds the music will stop and continue, etc. I use Avast! free for protection and I have done every scan without them finding a virus, however they do get a couple of files they cannot scan and each time they are different files. I am not very tech savvy so I have no clue how to go about searching for the fix, however while searching through google i did find a lot of people had this problem with windows xp.
I own a Sony Vaio VPCEG32FX/W and have 142 GB used memory.
Programs i have installed are Photoshop CS5, Finale Notepad, Itunes, Last.fm, Firefox, Windows Live Messenger, The Sims 3, Avast!, Avidemux 2.5, Rollercoaster Tycoon, Winrar, and VLC mediaplayer
My Windows 7 Home Prem 64bit machine is only stable in Safe Mode.
If I boot normally, I can do anything for about 10 minutes and then the system stops responding. I can still move the mouse, click icons, things even highlight when I hover over them, but nothing happens. Pages say loading forever and never complete. If I try to open task manager, or Ctrl-Alt-Del, or double click anything, nothing happens. The only way to "recover" is to power off an power back on.
Chkdsk reports no problems. MS Security Essentials is up-to-date and has scanned w/o finding anything. Kaspersky rescue disc running in it's native linux found nothing. Combofix found nothing. Malwarebytes found nothing. SFC.exe /scannow doesn't find anything wrong either.
I can't get any sort of event viewer info because I don't think anything is failing that is being caught and registering there.
I'm at my whits' end here. I have a new HDD that I bought some time ago but have never installed. My last resort is to just do a clean install on that new drive and consider the old (current) drive faulty after 4 years. I don't want to do that though if I can just figure out what's causing the behavior and take care of it.
Apps were not responding and computer is hanging up... Now computer will now complete startup process (even in safe modes). Windows and norton antivirus suspect Oem-drv86.exe is a threat, but, neither offer a fix.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a Toshiba Satellite C650-17Z laptop running Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit. I came across a problem today with the computer taking 2-3 minutes on the "Starting Windows" boot screen alone, but since it has finally gotten past that process applications are taking absolutely ages to load up, and stop responding when they finally do load up.
I attempted a Startup Repair and Memory Diagnostic - the Memory Diagnostic came out fine, but the Startup Repair explained that this could be a problem with a recently installed driver.
I recently uninstalled some MSXML and SQL Server bits and bobs which I thought were unnecessary
