I have a program that can only run on 64-bit computers, and my 32-bit computer won't run it. Is there any way to convert the program to 32-bit?(there is no 32-bit version of this program). EDIT: I made a mistake in the title.

Without giving me the option to say do NOT make any changes--for each of the two dialog boxes, I said just close the program--the PCA popped up saying it had applied a compatibility fix! (In the past on older OS's under similar circumstances, I would simply reboot and things would be OK afterwards WITHOUT having my system changed.)

I just reinstalled itunes but when it prompts me to change itunes to the default program to use for audio files, I click yes and nothing happens. It prompts me every time I open itunes. I went to control panel -> programs -> default programs -> set default programs and itunes wasn't there. I then went to ->associate a file type or protocol with a program but when I tried to change the default program for .mp3 the following happened:
- I double click .mp3
- I click browse
- Secondary Drive -> Itunes -> Itunes.exe
- I arrive at the screen that popped up after I double clicked .mp3 and itunes isn't on the list.
I tried going to a random .mp3 file and changing its default program but the same thing happened. I googled what to do and I looked for a software that would change the default program for filetypes and I used both. They didn't work. I tried the following:
a. Click Start, type regedit in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER.
b. Navigate to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionpoliciesExplorer
c. In the right side of the screen double click on "NoFileAssociate".
d. Change the value of "NoFileAssociate" from 1 to 0. If the value is not present, create a DWORD value and enter the valaue data as 0.
e. Exit Registry Editor and Restart the computer and check.
But I didn't seem to have the nofileassociate part in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionpoliciesExplorer
My itunes and safari icons have both changed to a completely unrecognisable icon. I cannot run either of this programs on my computer. I have tried reinstalling but this didnt work.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm desperately trying to change the sidebar gadget to open websites by default with Mozilla Firefox (in particular, the "Ask LEO" gadget).
Firefox is my default browser. If I double-click on a .url file saved on my system, it correctly opens Firefox, and so does clicking a link in MS Outlook. Again, Firefox is default, but that's not my problem.
Somewhere I found the advice to change the "Set program access and computer defaults" settings. So I tried, but every time I change something there, it doesn't keep the setting. I click on Custom => Default Web Browser => Mozilla Firefox, click OK, get some flashing on desktop, but next time I get there it's set back to "Use current browser" again.
Anyone got the same problem? I'm using the 7100 (x86) build, but a friend of mine tried the same on the final build (x64) and he got the same problem. It's reverting all the time. Re-installed Firefox, restarted, changed/tried/reset everything I can imagine.
Edit: It seems the problem is a Javascript-call "window.open" in the "Ask LEO" gadget. Someone knows why this call opens IE and every other call doesn't? And is there a workaround?
Edit2: With a dirty hack I solved the problem. Edited the gadget and replaced "window.open" by "System.Shell.execute". Still - I'd like to know why a) I can't change the default programs setting and b) why window.open ignores my default browser configuration.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have been using a program called Raw Therapee. I downloaded a new version and on installing it quit saying the old version must be removed. I could not find it listed in Revo Unistaller Pro, so I did a forced uninstall with the location of the main executable. This removed a lot of stuff. I checked the program folder and the folder and many files were still there, so I deleted them. I did a CCleaner in between and after. I then unhide and show system files and deleted the folders in the Appdata of main user and admin account, couldn't find it anywhere else.
CCleaner again and reboot. Went to install the new version again and it claimed that the old version was still installed. I did a search for *aw The* and found an entry in the hidden Program Data Folder. In the Admin account it will not let me in this folder to delete any remnants of the old version of Raw Therapee.
I have an issue with my ArcSoft TV program. Recently something changed and now I get the UAC pop up asking if I want this program to make changes to my computer.Issue is this, I can set to record a program, but with the pop up now coming up, I have to be avaliable to click to record the progarm.Currently I have the UAC set not to ask (pop up). However I understand the reason for the UAC asking and I prefer it to ask. So what I need is a way to allow ArcSoft to run without the pop up, but all other programs to ask for security. Main computer is the office computer. Its a desktop that a person is constantly on and doing stuff. There are 3 others that need the same information and documents at any given time. These 3 people have their laptops that are constantly switching wifi hotspots. They need to change information sometimes, and need access to all of it any time. The way its setup now is 1 person is on the main computer, but when one of the three need to access it, they remotely log in and take control. Only one person can access the computer at a time. How do I set it up so all four of these people can access and change the files at the same time if they want? The main computer is being used constantly, but someone always needs a document or file while the main person is working on it. So it slows production when someone logs in.

I have a computer with three partitions, the first with 100GB exclusively to Windows 7 (already installed), a partition for applications and another partition for personal files (photos, text, music, movies, etc.). I wonder how to configure the location of "My Documents", so that all users have only their personal files on drive of personal files. In Windows Explorer changed in each of the users the location of the Documents, Music, Video and Pictures.
- After changed the location of the folders above, there is still the same folders in C:users , and there are user settings that are there defined, eg Desktop, in C:Users. Is there any way to move all settings and folders to another drive?
- Is there any way to do this operation automatic? for future users I will have to repeat the same operation, how can I indicate that all future users will have their settings and documents specified in this specific drive?
I installed some applications and found that some applications did not demand that the location where it was set to be installed the application, having been installed in C:users and C:Program Files, intended that all applications (except for windows and Office) were installed in drive applications. How do I specify that this is the default drive for installation applications? Keeping the installations of Windows + Office in this drive. Applications installed by the administrator are available for all users or must be given access to other users ? How done? In the drive file, which should contain the users and shared files, meant that each user only gets access their documents and shared. Where and how can make this configuration?

We must support our package on Win XP, Vista and 7.A bunch of our scripts start up OpenOffice by running the command: C:Program FilesOpenOffice.org 3programsoffice.exe (with arguments).Works fine on XP. Fails on Windows 7 because the OO program installs itself into Program Files (x86). Even if I change properties of the installer file, in the Compatibility tab, to Win XP SP3, AND tell the installer to put it in C:Program Files, Windows 7 still installs it into Program Files (x86). We would LIKE to have the same script work on both flavors of Windows. I know we can modify our scripts to branch on which Windows, and choose two different paths to soffice.exe, but that's messy.I can't solve it by creating a shortcut in Program Files, to the program in Program Files (x86); that's not allowed.Is there some solution in Windows 7 to find the program no matter which place it lives?
