Can't Run Windows Rating Index Or Device Management Window Just Freezes Up
Feb 2, 2012
I just built a new computer everything is completely compatible with each other. I installed windows 7 pro 64 bit and i seem to be having problems accessing certain details in my control panel. I can't run windows rating index or device management the window just freezes up. the same is happening for trying to open the action center the windows just seem to keep freezing. when in safe mode everything runs perfectly fine but when i restart back to normal the same problem occurs anyone know what might be causing this? I don't have a virus the computer has been running for not even a day with limited internet use.
Why does Windows 7 automatically reindex my index search file when I reboot the computer.I have 300,000 files on my computer and it takes two days to rebuild the index. I leave my computer on all the time because I am afraid that by turning it off and on again will cause the indexing function to restart the index. How can I stop this reindexing function from starting on its own.
I have completely formatted my hard disk with seagate seatool. Then I have installed windows xp sp3. I have made 4 partitions at that time i.e. c,d,e,f. After that I have installed windows 7 now I can't see my hdd in disk management or in device manager. Both device manager & disk management are showing me my external drives like pen drive.
i assigned the wireless network of my house and everything was working fine and dandy. i then tried to connect tot he shared files of my other computers and they were not showing up. i noticed the workgroup name was called "homegroup" and my shared files on all my xp computer group is called "tss" so i go to the part whewe i can change the computer's name (i hadnt assigned it yet) and gave teh computer a name and changed the "homegroup" to "tss" i wanted to restart so i let it... since that restart... it wont connect to wireless. going to the network window makes it freeze. auto diagnosis the problem just freezes forever.
I recently bought 3 Hitachi 1tb hdd's (5400 Rpm, 8M cache) and added it to my Samsung, 7200 Rpm HDD 32M cache, So currently i put them on raid 0. My Samsung itself got me 5.9 win 7 rating currently all together 4 hDD's got me 6.5. I was wondering should i replace my Hitachi with 7200 rpm and 32m cache and will it increase the rate?
When I go to the device and printer window there is nothing listed. There are printers and devices on the computer because everything works with the exception of the Bluetooth. The printer prints, but I have no way of knowing what is in the queue. This may have never worked since the beginning. I don't know if this is related, but, Internet Explorer does not work. I have downloaded it at least 4 times with the same results. It will not open.
I got this PC 3 weeks ago. For two days now Several of my devices have a Code 10 on start up. For instance my mouse in the Device Manager window has a code 10 and will not work until I use the trouble shooter and it re-installs the driver. I have tried updating the USB drivers as many recommend but there were no updates. I tried Microsoft's fix it, and it was not fixed.
just put together a hp dv7 1243 with windows 7 and developer using a partition have problem with both windows wont activate wont join homegroup and updates wont work other than that works great almost fine the way it is added ati control panel improved performance cant get a windows experience rating since i installed the control panel could this be a software problem like a driver any body know ?
My audio was working well, but i decided to start recording find a way to improve my outbound audio quality (i'm an audiophile). I purchased a Fast Track Pro. Unlike other threads I've read, I'm not seeing any BSOD and its not crackling. My operating system will just stop functioning, or freeze for a half a second at a time. This can become frequent at about 10 times in a thirty second period requiring a restart. I had installed the latest x64 driver for my W7 x64 system from M-audio's website.
I uninstalled the driver and restarted, the issue persisted. I then installed the on-board audio driver and restarted, no system lag is present. The audio device-driver is acting up and I'm not sure why. Because i bought it used M-audio's support is a no-go. Are there any additional steps I can take which may troubleshoot this issue?
today I thought that I haven't updated my WEI some time and ran the assessment. Now all of a sudden my processor's rating dropped from 7.7 to 7.6. Is that normal that it drops for some strange reason or what might be causing this?
before i upgraded i had a 5.3 on vista across the board i researched window 7 and it said that the rating was now 7.9 and your upgrade would not affect your computer assessment and gave an example of 2.9 in vista staying 2.9 in windows7 yet when i upgraded my assessment jumped to 6.4. sine ms said that wouldnt happen whats up???
I just finished building a new computer last week. It runs very well, and it scored a 7.8 out of 7.9 overall on the Windows User Experience Rating. The problem I am having is that I had to reinstall windows (I messed up the first installation) and now when I try to run the assessment again it always crashes on "Direct3D 10 Texture Load Assessment."
I have all the latest drivers and DirectX 11 installed. Any idea why it would do this when it did not on my previous Windows installation?
My i7 990X is currently at 4.65 GHz. I was using MSI afterburner to overclock my GPU, but I confirmed that it is not the problem. Full computer specs in my profile.
I'm Running Windows 7(64bit)Each time I boot into Windows 7 Prem (64) a open window apears requesting my username at the top of the open window to specify a a program to open it?I've clicked on note pad and I get the following information that apears, each time though it requests, or looks for a program to use to open.
I have two Windows 7 PC's one media center PC acting as a server and one regular pc, call it the client. Both Have SSD systems drives. The Server has all content saved on backed up RAID 0 arrays.
I have two problems that my be linked. If I search for an item on the client search facility I get no results from the server apart from 'My Videos'. Also until I physically go into a folder on the any of the Mapped Network Drives they all show as offline.
I recently installed a new hyper 212 cooler. After doing so I downloaded the Intel Burn Tool and ran it a few time to make sure my temps were fine. Now I can't run the WEI program?
Whenever I search in Windows 7, I want to have the ability to open found folders in a new window. If I r-click, that option is not there. Is there a way to add this to Windows 7?
Also: When I go to 'open file location', the file's folder opens in the same window - highly annoying. In Vista, it opens in a new window. Anyway to change this behvior in Windows 7 to act like Vista, so the file opens in a new window?
In my windows 7 rating i have got 6.3 in gaming graphics but in graphics i have got only 4.9. Why this is happening? A graphics card which is good for gaming is that not good for desktop aero graphics?
I am running into an issue where I can open a window/program with my mouse however once the window is open I cannot click inside of it. The window becomes inactive. I also have noticed I cannot right click on my desktop to bring up the properties. I can right click on the window in the task bar to close it but not in the window. Since this is happening I am limited to command prompt. I ran sfc /scannow with no errors. I tried with 3 different mice. I booted the computer into safe mode with command prompt and brought up the device manager to show devices not in use, and when the device manager window opened I could click inside it! since I could use the window I uninstalled all mouse drivers, and reinstalled my microsoft wireless usb mouse driver.. while in this safe mode I changed my mouse properties to system default as I read somewhere that can reset things. Next I booted the computer in safe mode (without command prompt) and still the same thing. I was trying to do a restore point as well however my Kaspersky antivirus 2012 is preventing that as i cannot find a way to kill the program through command prompt.
I saw that the search index had indexed a grand total of 1000 items despite me knowing there are many more in the folders selected to be indexed.I selected to rebuild the index. It now says indexing completed with only 13 items indexed!!
MS keeps updating Windows 7 to ensure that we can no longer delete or reset the index.dat files. The result is that no matter what fix is posted here, MS does something to ensure the fix no longer works. Here's the laundry list of solutions that no longer work. Malwarebytes (various problems -- says file is open in Malwarebytes, is hidden and cannot be found even though Windows options have been changed to show hidden files) CCleaner (ineffective) index.dat Suite (currently completely disabled for Windows 7) index.dat suite (to find all files) combined with Eraser (to erase the files) (comes back wtih error message) Red Button (can't remember specifics here -- just that it doesn't work) Mil Sheild (can't remember specifics on this one either -- just that it doesn't work) and finally the instructions in the most recent thread on Index.dat which involve booting in safe command and going to the root file to delete index.dat. (I receive an error message that the file does not exist even though I can find 15 separate index.dat files with index.dat suite.
