I'm trying to re-enable hibernation. When I try, using powercfg. on I get "The following items are preventing hibernation on this system. The system could not create the hibernation file. the specific error code is 0xc0000034.Looking up this code, I learn that access is denied while trying to create the hiberfile.sys file on the C: root. Why? I've tried running it both as my regular logon, and as the Administrator. I'm doing a Run As Administrator in the cmd shell.Permissions are set on the C drive to allow full access to the administrator.I can find no reason why it can't create that file.

When I put my computer in hibernation, sometimes when I wake it, it hangs at the user select screen, or it just shows a black screen. Sometimes I can reset the computer after it has hanged, and try again resuming from hibernation, and many times it will work after a couple of tries. Other times after resetting I won't get the prompt to try again with resuming (the other option is to delete hibernation data and reboot the system) but I will get the usual screen that says that Windows was not shut down correctly (with all the options for safe mode, etc). If I cannot resume and I get the screen with safe mode and all the other crap, I finally log in I get a notice that there was a critical error, in the details I see BlueScreen and other data, but I actually never get a blue screen. In the dump folder, there are no dmp files related to the hibernation hanging.
Anyway, when it happens, I see several Event 18 WHEA-Logger in the event viewer, about 6 of them every time. What's weird though, is that I literally have NO problems with this computer other than this. The only times it hangs is when I resume it from hibernation. I can play games or run stress tests with or without overclock and the system is 100% stable. But there is some problem that prevents it from resuming from hibernation correctly, so every time I use it is basically a gamble because it has like 50% chance of working.I tried EVERY SINGLE solution I found with google related to hibernation problems, and it's still there. I even formatted and reinstalled Windows from scratch, and it's still there. I'm positive I updated every single driver for every hardware I have and nope, no solution.I know the WHEA error is related to the hardware but like I said, everything works PERFECTLY once the system starts up properly, or when it resumes from hibernation properly. I am having a increasingly regular problem with my computer coming out of hibernation.
I rarely turn my computer off & some mornings when I go to wake my computer up from hibernation it simply freezes on a black screen - I then have to power down. When I restart after leaving it off for 10 secs it firstly tries to resume windows which invariably fails. I power down again & sometimes it will start ok, sometimes I have to do a startup repair (I've had to do this 4 or 5 times now) as it won't get past the 'starting windows' window
I thought this may have something to do with the video driver (I can't remember why) so I got the latest version off the net but this doesn't seem to have helped.

For a while now my desktop, running W7 Ultimate, has been resuming itself from hibernation mode for, to me at least, no apparent reason. This seemed to start after installing Google Chrome browser and McAfee anti-virus, both of which have automatic update features. I uninstalled the former and disabled the automatic update of the latter but to no avail.

When I use hibernate with my Acer laptop, after I wake up the laptop the microphone is out. When I use regular restart the problem is over.I came across various reporting instances of this hibernate/microphone problem on the web but for me no acceptable solutions.
My laptop is an Acer 7740G 624G50Mn. Skype is 5.8.0.158. Windows is 7 Home Premium SP1. On a Fritzbox Fon WLAN 7340. The microphone I use is that of the Logitech Webcam C910.The microphone is ticked (the standard microphone) in Sound > Properties. After I wake up the laptop from Hibernate, moving the slider in Record > Levels does not change the number in the box to the left.

I want to say 2 days ago, my computer has decided to fail when going to sleep. It is Windows 7, completely updated with no problems to that point. When it falls asleep and I wake it up, the machine starts up and is active, but my monitors and external hard drive are never turned on as they once were and the machine just sits there running with a black screen. I restart, boot back into Windows and it says resume (as if it was in hibernation, but I have hybrid sleep on) and I just get a flashing underscore and no more. I restart once again, it says Windows could not restore the session, I start a new session and all is good again... until the computer falls asleep and the process starts over.
I have tried turning off hybrid sleep. No good. I have tried using hibernation instead of sleep. Same error. I found online where someone said they had this problem with an ATI card, but once the upgraded the Catalyst Control Center and drivers, they had no problems. That did no good. The only update I've done recenly is Firefox, but I have not seen any other reports of the newest Firefox causing sleep problems. I read where someone had a problem with waking up from sleep mode because of Firefox's memory leaks and they said closing Firefox before putting it to sleep helped. It does not matter if I put it to sleep and wake it up immediately or if it goes to sleep and when I get home from work, boot it up. The same thing happens no matter the length of time.I have a dual boot with Ubuntu, but that has been on there for months with no errors and Ubuntu will sleep and wake up just fine. There have been no hardware changes or any hardware driver changes other than the video card. I tried rolling back video card drivers to see if there was a difference with no change. My ASRock MB has the most up to date BIOS that has been out for over a year. My video card is a 5770, but like I said, I've tried older and new drivers. I tried the prevx black screen fix with no luck.

My computer wakes from hibernation.Im using windows 7 x64. My BIOS doesnt support any configuration settings about wake, and the LAN device driver states that it doesnt support wake on LAN.Its a Dell Lattitude laptop, about 2 years old.No events are relevant. This started about 6 months ago when I went out and updated all my drivers, so some driver is apparently having fun. I had already run for long enough when it started that I didnt want to roll back, although I have tried earlier versions of the LAN, WAN and WLAN drivers. None of them have an option for disabling wake on LAN that can be checked.
C:>powercfg -lastwake
Wake History Count - 1
Wake History [0]
Wake Source Count 0
C:>powercfg -devicequery wake_armed
gives no output.

I just purchased a new laptop. I already have problems - first, the laptop seems to have issues in hibernation mode. Second, and worse, it's always freezing and not responding. I have installed very few programs right now - WoW for my son, firefox. My university also installed microsoft office 2010, another program that allows me to log onto their network, pharos, and an antivirus program called landesk - which I think may be the issue. I tried locating the antivirus program to uninstall, but couldn't. Where should I start?
Also, I'm using Windows 7 and its a 64 bit system.

I am running Windows 7 Home Premium. I have the system set up to run two applications at certain times - Norton Scans being one.
Yesterday, it missed a scan and I suspect it was because of the power saving options - the computer is set to go to sleep after 30 minutes.
Does anyone know whether that is the case and if there is anyway to set up the power saving so that any timed applications will run OK?

I continue to experience BSODs on my new computer. Every component is new and experienced the same BSODs on my old computer as well.
I turned off hibernation thinking it was the problem, but leaving it idle also causes the same issue. Furthermore, if I leave it on hibernation, the monitor won't turn on after I wake up the computer or there is a BSOD error and reboots.
Attached is what I was told in the instructions to provide. I provided a dxdiag file to give you my system specs as well. Windows 7 Professional 64-bit

I've had my HP laptop for going on two years now and it's been acting up. It's mainly in the hibernation field and it started when i turned the start up GUI off (saved me about 15 seconds in start up) and first installed Ubuntu. I've read elsewhere and it said that my drivers need updated, but Windows update AND HP support assistant said that everything's up-to-date. I want to start from hibernation again. Oh, one more thing the screen is just a white dash (_).

For the past year, I've been using Windows Vista Ultimate and a dual display setup. Sometime during the summer, my dual display setup started not working. When waking up the computer from hibernation, one display would no longer be available (and would remain asleep?). I could move my cursor onto the sleeping display's area, but I couldn't see anything.
I replaced my graphics card but this didn't solve the problem.
I reformatted last night and am now using Windows 7 Home Premium. I haven't gotten a chance to play with dual displays since they're at my university dorm room. This morning, I fixed an issue where my USB devices would stay in hibernation despite waking my computer up. I disabled an option called "USB selective suspend setting".
Is there an equivalent for dual displays? What other hibernation options could be screwing with my dual displays? (I'll test when I get back to school.

I have a Quad system running Windows 7 Home Premium that is OverClocked and will not work with the Sleep function but works just fine with Hibernation. Now that SSD drives are becoming more affordable has anyone come up with a way to move the Hibernation file to a different physical drive. Based on the number of Googles I've seen this appears to be a common issue.

I've recently encountered a problem on trying to take my laptop out of Hibernate mode. The machine hibernates normally, but when attempting to resume it will display a black screen with a flashing cursor in the top right-hand corner, then get stuck there. At the moment this is more an irritation than a serious issue as manually turning the machine off and on again at the power button offers me the choice between trying again and deleting the hibernation file's data and rebooting as normal. If I choose the first option the computer will lock in the same place as before; the second option has it booting as normal.
I've tried troubleshooting the problem myself but my limited understanding of how my laptop actually functions means there's only so far I can go by myself. Is there any way I can go about fixing this or will I need to get someone to take a look at it? ETA: I just tried waking the computer from Sleep only to find that it had a similar problem there as well. No flashing cursor, but the screen just went black and the machine wouldn't respond until I turned it off and back on.

I have a Samsung Laptop and it was in hibernation mode when it was knocked off of an ottoman and fell about a foot and landed right side up on the floor. When I opened it there was nothing but a black screen with a cursor on it. So I turned it off by holding down the power button and then turned it back on the sumsung start up screen came on and then the screen was black except for a Little flashing white bar on the upper left hand side and then it just stays that way, I have also tried taking out the battery but it did not work. One time it came up with an error saying your computer can't come out of hibernation anything not saved previously will be lost and at the bottom it says enter=continue but when I hit enter nothing happens.

I've recently started having the problem that my laptop immediately resumes after I press hibernate. I press the power button (which is configured to Hibernate) or press Hibernate in the shutdown menu, it starts to hibernate like usual, but then as soon as it goes to the Windows 7 screen saying something like "Hibernating...", it goes straight back to working properly, and not hibernating. I have made sure my networking devices are allowed to turn off, and that option for my mouse and trackpad is greyed out.

I just bought a NIB (New In Box) Windows 7 computer and I have run into a problem I have not seen and don't know what to do with. I keep my computer password protected due to financial and other sensitive information I have on it. Whenever I am away for an extended period I lock my computer using the Windows Key - L combination. If I am only away for short periods of time everything is fine but if I am away from my computer for an extended period and I try to wake my computer up it won't come out of hibernation and I have to use the power switch to shut it down and restart it and of course I get the "Windows did not shut down normally" screen.I like to leave my computer on for convenience and to get Windows updates but I now hesitate to do this if I am going to have to deal with it not coming out of hibernation every time I am away for a long period. I suppose I could always leave it on but this uses a lot of power as well as wear and tear on moving parts.
