For the past year, I've been using Windows Vista Ultimate and a dual display setup. Sometime during the summer, my dual display setup started not working. When waking up the computer from hibernation, one display would no longer be available (and would remain asleep?). I could move my cursor onto the sleeping display's area, but I couldn't see anything.
I replaced my graphics card but this didn't solve the problem.
I reformatted last night and am now using Windows 7 Home Premium. I haven't gotten a chance to play with dual displays since they're at my university dorm room. This morning, I fixed an issue where my USB devices would stay in hibernation despite waking my computer up. I disabled an option called "USB selective suspend setting".
Is there an equivalent for dual displays? What other hibernation options could be screwing with my dual displays? (I'll test when I get back to school.
I am trying to use dual displays. but the mouse becomes so erratic that it makes dual displays difficult to use. It is a wireless microsoft optical mouse that cannot seem to adapt well to the extended desktop.
I might not be asking this the right way, but let me try to elaborate.I have a W7 64 bit PC with an ATI Radeon HD 5570 video card. I have my monitor connected and I have a flatscreen TV that is connected to the video card through an HDMI cable. When I want to watch content through my PC on my flatscreen I have to go into Control Panel/Display and manually change the setting to dual display. Is there not a way to automatically send the signal without having to get into the Control Panel?
I've put a fresh install of Windows 7 on RC build, whenever it finished the install and had put its own version of drivers on my dual screen setup worked perfectly, but when i updated my ATi drivers to the latest Windows 7's but dual screen capabilities vanished. Both screens work fine on their own its just when i try to get them to work together i get problems,,
The screen resolution manager has both screens listed and my cursor will disappear off the right side of the screen as it would do normally on dual setup, but for some reason the other monitor isn't displaying.
I bought two new SyncMaster SA100 monitors that for some reason only have VGA ports on them. No problem right? The HD 6570 has a VGA and DVI output so I put a DVI to VGA converter on it. After countless hours of messing around in all the video control panel i can not get the second screen (thats using the converter) to show anything! It isn't even being detected, anyone know if this because the card just isn't able to run the converter?
When I put my computer in hibernation, sometimes when I wake it, it hangs at the user select screen, or it just shows a black screen. Sometimes I can reset the computer after it has hanged, and try again resuming from hibernation, and many times it will work after a couple of tries. Other times after resetting I won't get the prompt to try again with resuming (the other option is to delete hibernation data and reboot the system) but I will get the usual screen that says that Windows was not shut down correctly (with all the options for safe mode, etc). If I cannot resume and I get the screen with safe mode and all the other crap, I finally log in I get a notice that there was a critical error, in the details I see BlueScreen and other data, but I actually never get a blue screen. In the dump folder, there are no dmp files related to the hibernation hanging.
Anyway, when it happens, I see several Event 18 WHEA-Logger in the event viewer, about 6 of them every time. What's weird though, is that I literally have NO problems with this computer other than this. The only times it hangs is when I resume it from hibernation. I can play games or run stress tests with or without overclock and the system is 100% stable. But there is some problem that prevents it from resuming from hibernation correctly, so every time I use it is basically a gamble because it has like 50% chance of working.I tried EVERY SINGLE solution I found with google related to hibernation problems, and it's still there. I even formatted and reinstalled Windows from scratch, and it's still there. I'm positive I updated every single driver for every hardware I have and nope, no solution.I know the WHEA error is related to the hardware but like I said, everything works PERFECTLY once the system starts up properly, or when it resumes from hibernation properly. I currently have it set to turn off my displays at 3 minutes of inactivity, and put the computer to sleep after 10 minutes.Sometimes, the displays won't turn off after 3 minutes, but it will then put the computer to sleep after 10 minutes while the displays are still on. More often, it will turn the displays off, but won't ever put the computer to sleep. Why wouldn't the computer go to sleep?Wouldn't any activity turn the displays back on? And so if they don't come back on, why wouldn't it go to sleep?why wouldn't the displays turn off, and then it goes to sleep?
So, I have been searching mindlessly around to figure out how to swap my displays (IE. display 2 as display 1 and vise-versa) and I finally figured out in Catalyst control center, you can swap these displays, I currently have it configured in the control center like this: url...Is there any way to fix this? I restarted, and in Windows, it's still configured like that, but in the center, it's the way I want it. And I know it's not configured right because when I record my desktop with FRAPS, it records like it's configured the Windows way.
I've been browsing the web to find an answer for my question, but with no luck.
I use Windows 7 on a PC which is setup to be both an office and an entertainment computer. Therefore it's connected to two seperate screens with one graphic card. The screens are one 19" desktop screen (1280x1024) and one 40" Samsung LCD TV (1920x1080). When I'm browsing the web, working with documents etc. I use the desktop screen and when I watch movies, pictures etc. I use the TV.
Now I'm trying to switch between them in an easy way. I've tried several third party applications but eventually found that the best way to switch between these in fact is to use Windows 7 built-in software. I've setup Windows to recognize the two seperate screens and I switch between them by using the "Multiple Displays" option in the settings. I then switch by using "show desktop only on 1/2".
Do anyone know if this switch can be done by using a hotkey combination through Windows or through some other software? It's not the end of the world right clicking the desktop and doing it, but it'd be nice to save a few clicks every time.
I just bought a new Computer tower to use with my HD tv screen. It gets to the loading windows with the particles and forms the windows logo, then the display just shuts off! Not even had the chance to do the initial computer start up yet.
imple question: why does a shortcut to an exe on a network-drive display differently from one on my local drive? It's the same file, but the network ressource version looks FUBAR, while local version is pretty nice.Perhaps more to the point: any hints on changing it. The particular exe is compiled with an ico containing: 48x48 px, 32x32 px, 16x16 px (all in xp, hicolor, 16 colors). It looks like windows is displaying the 16x16 px version, and then resizing it, and perhaps adding a dash of ugly
once i have added japanese to my language for running a software. But later i removed it , but still during the installation of some softwares like NERO 7 ,Games etc, the wizard appears in japanese. even nero when ran became japan version.
i was playing one of my games and then my system suddenly freezes and i can't do anything but to force shut down it, then when i turned the system back on, it goes to bios and the windows load screen (the one that the 4 colors of windows meet thingy) and after that the screen goes black as in no light display on monitor, but i could still hear the sound when (logging in) and i also think it could still go to desktop as when i used my mouse and randomly open things i opened a video and it still works(sound but no display) i tried to format the system, after format the system works well i tried to restart the pc and it works 3-5 times but when i started to install drivers and made my system restart it goes back to the same problem the display only ends at the load screen but sounds work until desktop, i don't know what the problem is but i'm guessing its my video card that has a problem can anybody help me?
My friend has a computer thats displaying an error message when he presses the power button to turn on his laptop. He has had it sense 2009 and it has worked perfectly fine up till today. After pressing the power button he immediately sees the screen shown in the link below. After he saw that screen he turned his computer off and attempted to turn it back on, the screen did not come on but all the lights displayed on the machine came on as normal and the fan was fully functioning. I dont know the specs of his laptop but he has an dell inspiron 1525. I have included a link that shows the specs for this pc model as well as an image taken of the error message.
I have this computer, with a GeForce 6200 TurboCache gfx card in it. With two Samsung SyncMaster 931BW attached. One VGA, one DVI.
Earlier, this pc was running windows XP, and both displays were set to their native resolution of 1400 x 900. I deployed Windows 7 on it, and now I can't set both monitors. One is at 1400 x 900, the other defaults to 1024 x 768, AND they get swaped around on the multi display. The left gets put on the right, etc. If I try and select 1400 x 900, it flickers but no resolution change.
Yes I'm on the latest Nvidia driver for this brand of card. No I haven't tried another card yet because I can't find a spare. It was working in XP, and trying to get to the bottom of this is frustrating.
If you need more information, ask. I'm going to be here for 4 more hours.
Also, in case it's relevant - In the Nvidia control panel, under 'change resolutions' It correctly detects both sync masters. It's detecting the VGA one as 'VGA - PC display', but the DVI one as "composite - standard definition television"
i hav a Laptop compaq CQ-40 with ati graphic HD3450...1st time i format it..it's ok on the games...but when the second time i've formated it...the problems start to come...i dun know what really the problems...it wont go full screen...when i've adjust the resolution...it even dun make any changes...but worst...my desktop also turn box kind of screen with the black edges on the right and left...but also up and the right..i got see in the forum..got many people hav same problems as me..they have solved it...but it's only for nvdia...i need problems solved for Ati.
I recently purchased a second monitor and now have two working at the same time. It lets me have a lot more windows open at any given time, but since the windows task bar is only displayed on the main monitor it gets very clustered when I open all the windows I need. This makes it hard swapping between windows, especially when I'm working on the secondary monitor and have to move the mouse over to the primary to pull up a window that's behind all the others.
I'm wondering if there's a way to extend the task bar across both monitors? I've looked in the properties of both the task bar and the nvidia control panel, but found nothing.
Earlier today I accidentally turned off my pc at the switch as it was loading a game by resting my foot on it. When I turned it back on it could load to desktop and load the icons, but I couldn't open anything. Infact, the only thing that did run was Hamachi, and that appeared to freeze (although I could exit it with no problems). The computer runs normally on safe mode, and my first instinct after discovering this was to reinstall the video card drivers (fixed a similar problem for me about 2-3 weeks ago where the desktop froze upon loading), but this has not worked, as you could probably gather.
The problem that I am having all started after I updated my Windows XP OS to Windows 7. When I start my computer up software is meant to start up a NAS drive that is on the network. This works fine but this software only starts the NAS drive after the computer is started and Windows 7 places it has offline. When the drive finishes startup should it not also display in Windows 7 that it is now online? This is what happened on my previous XP OS and it also works with another 2 machines that I have attached to the network which are XP and Windows Vista. how do you get Windows 7 to automatically check to see if the NAS drive is online or offline?
As my school project I, with help, have created a remotely controlled real-time closed circuit TV system for the school so that teachers can post messages on TVs, sort of like an information board system. One way to leave a message is through a website with a java applet. The applet we made works fine on windows xp, but works curiously on windows 7. It runs in the browser and asks the client to accept the certificate, but when the user clicks on run the applet doesn't come up. It's there, the buttons come up if you move the mouse pointer over them and the text becomes visible if you press ctrl+a. It works too, all the functions work properly, if you can navigate. It works in windows 7 safe mode though. I've tried turning of services, making a clean boot, running the browser in safe mode and changing the html tags (applet, object, embed) and nothing's working. It's not the firewall or antivirus. It's just something with windows 7. I need to fix it- half the teachers have windows 7.
I've managed to narrow the problem down. The applet apparently works fine in windows 7 with the colors turned down to 16 bits. Doesn't work in 32 bits mode on windows 7, but works in both modes on xp. Now, it's not the graphic card I've tested with others OSs on same computers. Firefox I can set to start in XPsp3 compatibility mode in properties and it works even in 32bit color mode on windows 7. But Internet Explorer can't be set to start in the compatibility mode because it's part of this version of windows Due to this undesirable problem I will have to configure computers of the entire staff. I've even tried tweaking with the graphic card properties hoping there'd be a box to uncheck somewhere. Without positive outcome. Switching all computers to 16-bit mode seems pretty intrusive as it disables Windows Live Thumbnails and Aero Peak. I'm looking for a way to make it work for the teachers without them having to edit advanced settings or decreasing functionality of their computers. If there is an advanced setting to be changed, the schools computer service will do it.
I have a Windows 7 laptop that I have had in my possession since last November 2010.
The files I transferred from an older Windows Vista system - to this new Windows 7 system - were fully functioning then and are fully functioning now (editable, savable, movable, etc.).
Shortly after transferring said files (regarding software and web development projects), I noticed a few directories were not behaving normally. Normal behavior would be defined as the ability to open a particular non-system directory and immediately see the files within that directly displayed in a list.
The misbehaving directories I speak of can be opened, but (1) they appear empty, (2) the vertical scroll bars to the right of the directories "flicker" off an on at a millisecond pace, and (3) the region at the bottom left hand corner of these directories where the number of items is listed . . . displays the actual number of items and, then, displays ZERO items (e.g. flashing back and forth between "185 items" and "0 items").
I can access (copy, edit, save, move, etc.) all of the files (.html, .jpg, and .mov) within various web design applications, Adobe Photoshop, and Apple QuickTime with no problem whatsoever.
Outside of these few misbehaving directories, my entire system appears to be fine.
On the other hand, if I attempt to copy the contents of these directories (from within Photoshop, etc.) into newly created directories . . . and, then, attempt to open up those directories from my desktop (as I would normally do), the same problem occurs.
Whether new directory or existing directory - the same files will not display. Even if I add new files to those directories, those new files meet the same end.
I have two other Windows 7 laptops - as well as an external hard drive - and none of those devices have trouble displaying the contents of the problematic directories I have described.
It would be easy and irritating and painful enough to reformat my system to see if that fixes the issue(s), but I would really like to trace the specific symptom to a specific KNOWN source . . . before falling back on a complete wipe out that may not be necessary.
As the thread title states my recycle bin in Windows 7 Ultimate 32 Bit displays empty and shows that it can't be emptied in the context menu, even right after I finish deleting something as simple as a 1KB .txt file. And it doesn't update it's status with a refresh, only when I double click the recycle bin on the desktopIt's never done this before and just started happening (as far as I'm concerned) randomly a few days ago. I've google searched and found nothing except the trick everyone knows about adding ,0 to the end of the registry for custom icons. But unfortunately this does not solve my problem as it's not just the icon that displays empty but the bin itself. have also noticed it's been doing it mostly after I wake my computer up from Sleep/Hibernation but not when I restart my computer after noticing the problem.
I have a dual monitor set up in my office with a 23" Asus connected via DVI and a 19" Sony connected via VGA and adapter to my custom build. In my living room I have a TV connected Via Receiver Via adapter(composite/s-video) Via s-video to my same custom build. At the moment I have to go in to "screen resolution" and select the sony from the "Display" menu and then "disconnect this display" from the "Multiple displays" menu. So far I have only disconnected the sony monitor, I still need to extend desktop on to the TV.this gets to be a legthy process when I do it 8 times a day every day. Is there a why to have 1 or 2 executable script that will allow me to switch between the desired displays?
I've been having an issue with Outlook 2003. I've had to rebuild my computer, and in doing so, reloaded Office 2003 and I use Outlook as my email reader. For some reason, when Outlook 2003 downloads One (1) particular recipient, it converts their emails to text only. 100's of others come in as HTML and I have no issues with their emails?
This occurred after the rebuild. When I received emails from this person prior to the rebuild their emails came in just fine as HTML. Nothing was changed to the best of my knowledge?

i have windows 7 laptop that i have had for only a few months for all the time I have used it when I press ALT+Tab keys there came up with a viewer that I could scroll through open windows by selecting a from miniature images of that window... recently this changed to what I understand to the Windows XP viewer that only displays icons to scroll through when ALT+Tab is pressed... I dont think I downloaded anything harmful to do this but I also don't remember changing any setting to have this happen, how do I chage it back?
A new window opened in Internet Explorer displays a blank white page. I tried all these fixes:
- Windows updates (Win 7sp1 and IE9.0.9) A new window opened in Internet Explorer displays a blank white page - Microsoft Fix it 50191 - Re-register the DLL Nothing happens when you click a link in Internet Explorer - Check your default web browser setting - Change the file types that Internet Explorer opens by default - Use the Internet Explorer No Add-ons mode - Reset Internet Explorer settings - Reregister the necessary Internet Explorer DLL files - Use System Restore
The problem remains unsolved. Everything else runs fast and perfectly on my computer, included Mozilla Firefox. However I don't like when something doesn't run very well.
i managed to delete my windows/system64 contents on my dell laptop while trying to free space, only to find that as soon as i rebooted the laptop it continuously get's stuck at an error page for about a second and then displays me with two options of: Launch repair and start windows normally - i have done both several times both to no avail and i have tried booting in all of the different modes. I.E safe mode - last known good configuration?
