Computer Wakes From Hibernation?
May 28, 2011
My computer wakes from hibernation.Im using windows 7 x64. My BIOS doesnt support any configuration settings about wake, and the LAN device driver states that it doesnt support wake on LAN.Its a Dell Lattitude laptop, about 2 years old.No events are relevant. This started about 6 months ago when I went out and updated all my drivers, so some driver is apparently having fun. I had already run for long enough when it started that I didnt want to roll back, although I have tried earlier versions of the LAN, WAN and WLAN drivers. None of them have an option for disabling wake on LAN that can be checked.
C:>powercfg -lastwake

Wake History [0]
Wake Source Count 0
C:>powercfg -devicequery wake_armed
gives no output.

Every few days my computer will wake from sleep in the middle of the night and to find out why I check lastwake from the command prompt and got this in attachment. I looked in WMC and didn't find any auto updating turned on. How do I turn this off? I really don't use WMC that much and don't need it waking my computer to update.

My computer occasionally wakes up from Standby. I have a USB-based KVM switcher providing mouse and keyboard. When I want to put it in Standby, I first switch the switcher to my other computer, then I go into Standby by pressing the power button. When I want to use the computer again, I first switch the switcher back to the computer, then press the power button. Waking up from Standby spontaneously is not a major problem, as it is set to go back to Standby after several minutes. But I'm curious as to what might be happening.

I am having a most unusual problem where my system wakes itself from sleep when I walk by.. Sometimes randomly also but most times when I walk over to my desk it will wake by itself for no reason. This is quite annoying and i would greatly appreciate any help in identifying the cause.

I've got a pretty regular and predictable usage pattern with my computer - quick logon in the morning to check emails, go to work, use computer at night, restart before bed.The computer is set to sleep after three hours of inactivity. So in the morning it will be sleeping, then when I get home from work same thing. Sometimes not; never figured what wakes the computer, but 90% of the time, that's how that works - it sleeps after three hours, and stays sleeping for several hours. However, this week I noticed that the computer seemingly never sleeps. It's always on when I come by it, including in the morning, and when I get home from work.Checked the system log in the event viewer for events 1 (wakeup) and 42(sleep), and I noticed that, into the morning of 9/16, the normal pattern of several hours of sleep was adhered to. Since 9/16 though, every sleep period lasts about 2 1/2 minutes. That is, it goes to sleep (event 42), and then within 2-3 minutes, it will wake up (event 1).There have been no Windows updates in that time that would affect this. Definition updates for Windows Defender on 9/18 and 9/21, and KB2744842 (security update for IE 9 on x64 systems) on 9/22, but nothing happened, including no new software installations, on 9/15 or 9/16.So why is my computer suddenly waking from sleep almost immediately?

I'm positive that I'm not bumping into the mouse or anything to accidentally wake it as I make sure to turn my wireless mouse off once I've finished a session on the computer. and often times the computer will wake in the middle of the night. I will select sleep mode before going to bed and when I wake up it will be running like normal

This has been an ongoing issue with my computer only waking from sleep half the time. The other half I need to actually power cycle my machine in order for it to wake. I know when it is going to wake properly because I hear the DAC on my Asus Xonar Essence STX Sound Card click on and if it's not going to work obviously I don't hear the click.I have tried the following:
- Complete system rebuild with new hard drives, reinstall of windows
- All drivers updated and bios updated (I have been through a fair few driver updates because this has been an issue for over a year)
- New Memory installed
- Played with as many power settings in the bios as possible
I am really starting to think it is a hardware issue with either my motherboard or video card but don't have a spare of each of these and don't want to buy new stuff just to test it.
Here are my Specs:
Motherboard: Asus P8Z68-V Pro
CPU: Intel i7 2600
Video Card: Gigabyte 6950 (in eyefinity with 3 Monitors)
Sound Card: Asus Xonar Essence STX
HDD: 2 x 240GB Sandisk Extreme SSD (Raid0)
Memory: Kingston Hyper X 4x4GB (16GB Total)
PSU: Seasonic X Series 750w
Monitors: Samsung MD230x3 (3x23") 2 connected via DVI and 1 via DisplayPort
As mentioned the hard drives and memory were replaced so it can't be either of those. Also it can't be any settings because it does wake via my keyboard/mouse half the time. It is also hard to troubleshoot as it may work 3 times ok and even wake form sleep overnight but then I could leave it for 30 mins come back and it won't wake that time, there is no pattern that I can make out, not sure what else I can do to troubleshoot this but it is really annoying as my computer gets a lot of use and would rather put it to sleep than continually turn it off and on.

I have a problem with Windows 7. I cannot use the sleep function! This is is so frustrating.. I used to put my computer to sleep all the time in XP. But when I upgraded to Windows 7 a while ago, my computer just wakes up instantly after going into sleep mode, as if I was spamming the power button. I have tried searching for answers, and one solution I have tried was the "network card activity problem". However, it didn't work.

I don't really use Media Center much but everynight around 2:30 am my PC wakes up after it has been put in sleep mode. I finally tracked the culprit down in the evnt viewer to be the media center update causing it to wake up. Is there a way to turn MC auto updating off?

I have a different sort of problem with grouping.
See, I'm a game modder, and this requires me to have many folders open at once. The problem is, when my computer goes to sleep and then wakes up, the order of my folders on the taskbar is changed. This bugs me to no end, and I'm wondering how I can stop this reordering from happening.

When I put my computer in hibernation, sometimes when I wake it, it hangs at the user select screen, or it just shows a black screen. Sometimes I can reset the computer after it has hanged, and try again resuming from hibernation, and many times it will work after a couple of tries. Other times after resetting I won't get the prompt to try again with resuming (the other option is to delete hibernation data and reboot the system) but I will get the usual screen that says that Windows was not shut down correctly (with all the options for safe mode, etc). If I cannot resume and I get the screen with safe mode and all the other crap, I finally log in I get a notice that there was a critical error, in the details I see BlueScreen and other data, but I actually never get a blue screen. In the dump folder, there are no dmp files related to the hibernation hanging.
Anyway, when it happens, I see several Event 18 WHEA-Logger in the event viewer, about 6 of them every time. What's weird though, is that I literally have NO problems with this computer other than this. The only times it hangs is when I resume it from hibernation. I can play games or run stress tests with or without overclock and the system is 100% stable. But there is some problem that prevents it from resuming from hibernation correctly, so every time I use it is basically a gamble because it has like 50% chance of working.I tried EVERY SINGLE solution I found with google related to hibernation problems, and it's still there. I even formatted and reinstalled Windows from scratch, and it's still there. I'm positive I updated every single driver for every hardware I have and nope, no solution.I know the WHEA error is related to the hardware but like I said, everything works PERFECTLY once the system starts up properly, or when it resumes from hibernation properly. I just bought a NIB (New In Box) Windows 7 computer and I have run into a problem I have not seen and don't know what to do with. I keep my computer password protected due to financial and other sensitive information I have on it. Whenever I am away for an extended period I lock my computer using the Windows Key - L combination. If I am only away for short periods of time everything is fine but if I am away from my computer for an extended period and I try to wake my computer up it won't come out of hibernation and I have to use the power switch to shut it down and restart it and of course I get the "Windows did not shut down normally" screen.I like to leave my computer on for convenience and to get Windows updates but I now hesitate to do this if I am going to have to deal with it not coming out of hibernation every time I am away for a long period. I suppose I could always leave it on but this uses a lot of power as well as wear and tear on moving parts.

Here's my problem:I have a netbook (HP mini 311) that came with Windows XP, and then I've installed windows 7 on it.When the computer goes to hibernation either because the battery is getting too low or that I close the lid (as I choosed these in the power options) , the computer won't successfully boot up to the "Resuming windows" screen. And what I should do is to turn it on and off 3 times, and so it starts normally (to resume windMore notes: at first boot screen (where the hp logo is) , at the bottom right of it, there's usually a "Press esc for startup options" text, that doesn't appear by the 3 first boot ups tries.

On a brand new, freshly installed Windows 7 Ultimate 64. I get the following error when resuming from Hibernate: "Your computer can't come out of hibernation. Status 0xc000009a". No other info, no reference to any file such as hyberfil.sys. I have tried to "powercfg -h on/off", reboot defrag and reactivate hibernation, however the problem is still there.....what can I try?

First and foremost, details of my lappy:Asus A43SWIndows 7 64 bitAMD Radeon HD 673Intel core i7 8gb RAMIt is a new lap, just bought 2 mths ago.Noticed the first problem with it is 1) THe computer becomes slow and cranky and even crashes after resuming from the hibernation or sleeping (fall short of a BSOD, eg can't move mouse, etc...and have to hard restart the laptop). Managed to reduce the frequency of i from always to infrequent by setting the hard disk turn off, sleep and hibernate option in the power option to never. Lots of forum explained such similar problem, but despite updating BIOS, display driver, asus ATK utility driver, etc...still persists2) Now coming to the 2nd question which I am wondering is it related to the problems after resuming from sleep/hibernate.
Got repeated BSOD today.....after I update the power4gear hybrid utility (by asus to a newer version) version 1143 to 1150. Managed to generate and use debuggin tool to see the dump file...which shows ntoskrnl.exe as possible cause. MInd you that this also the same culprit that appears in the dump file in my problem number 1(which has once BSOD during resuming from hibernate/sleep)So is number 1 and number 2 related? What is wrong actually with number 1 problem? What is ntoskrnl.exe, and how to fix it?

Every time I manually start hibernation it will begin the process; the monitor will go blank, the harddrive starts making the image and after about 30 seconds the the monitor comes on and the computer is in normal operation. I have tried enabling it with the command line (powercfg -h on) as the administrator with no success. This just started yesterday. I have not installed any new applications or any new updates.

This problem started a few months ago when I updated the video drivers on my NVIDIA card. What happens is that when the pc goes to sleep, either by my command or after timing out for inactivity, the pc will wake up when prompted by mouse or keyboard, but the monitors don't. I know the pc wakes because when tapping on keys or clicking the mouse button I will occasionally hear pings from the pc. I'm not convinced that the problem is NVIDIA's, but this does coincide with an updated driver of theirs.Ultimately, in order to get my machine working again I have to press the power button and restart cold. Also, and I'm not sure if this is worth noting, upon cold start, my Kaspersky and clock gadgets, which are normally placed in the upper-right corner of the right monitor, display in the left monitor somewhere off-center.
I'm diligent with keeping drivers updated, but I really have no idea what to do now. I'll post the stuff that may be relevant:Logitech wireless mouse M310 (unified w/ keyboard)Logitech wireless Solar keyboard K750 (unified w/ mouse)(2) LG monitors E2050NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460 video cardWindows 7 Home Premium (service pack 1)64-bit OSAMD Phenom II x4 945 processor 3.00 GHz8.00 GB ram

My laptop wakes up for no reason after I put it to sleep. I unplugged my USB things and it still doesn't solve. When I do powercfg -lastwake it gives me this:
Wake History [0]
Wake Source Count - 1
Type: Fixed Feature
Power Button
This does not have to do with an outdated driver(Most likely) It happened when I decided to decrease the brightness.

It is the most bizarre thing. Either it goes to sleep by the timer setting or I can use the "Start button" then select sleep. It closes up properly and looks all hunky-dori. Then between 30 and 45 seconds later, it wakes up again.
I heard it happening enough last night that I had to turn the computer off. I joke that it only needs 45 seconds of sleep and is ready for work again..
