Apr 14, 2011I'm using Comodo and whenever I select scvhost.exe [812] and block it, the scvhost.exe [1004] gets blocked as well.
Extremely annoying because, the PID 1004 is required for my DNS to function... websites won't work right without it unless I type the IP address. [812] looks like some sort of Microsuck phone-home BS... whois has it registered to them. I have updates disabled so they need to get off my stuff!

Jul 12, 2012My spouse's laptop has Windows 7 Professional and it contains a Citrix client VPN access to her work. For some reason, I do not have the details, Windows Updates clobbers the Citrix client, thereby she cannot access her work. Note that Windows performs these updates without asking the user if they want these updates to be performed. We have to uninstall the Windows Updates and reinstall the Citrix client to get her VPN working again. How can I setup her laptop to block (or at least ask the user) Windows from performing updates so that it does not affect her Citrix VPN access?

Every time I try to connect via Cat 5 wired DSL connection it adds an additional "Unidentified network (public network) and lists "Multiple networks under the middle icon on the Network and Sharing Center with a red X between that and the Internet. I have tried everything to get rid of the extra network but nothing has worked. I get the message: (every time I try and open a folder on my c/drive - Can't access Windows Explorer folder on the taskbar and any other folder or file by double clicking it. I can open them by right clicking, then open)
"this file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Please install a progra or, if one is already installed, create an assocation in the Default Programs control Panel".
I can open applications. But, I can not open the folder for them lets say in c:/program files -- the only way to open them is by rightclicking, then open. If I double click, I get the above error message. (same issue with "my documents", "My pictures", etc).
Included with the above problems: I now, can not access User Accounts. When I go into Control Panel, click User Accounts.. I can not manage existing ones, nor can I "Add or remove user accounts". I click the link and nothing happens.
I have someething built into the computer called "Dell DataSafe Backup". Its a recovery partition/part of the HDD that saves all my files for a recovery. However, I can NOT access it. I click the "Dell DataSafe" in my taskbar and nothing happens..

The Windows 7 works well and I get options to log into either Windows at startup. Nov 17, 2011i recieved my new lenovo z570 ideapad yesterday...i'll just put some of the spec down incase you want to know.

yadayadayada...
anyway, after charging it up and turning it on, i started to install programmes and other bits and bobs. e.g ituens, flash player. just the usual essentials. i used the laptop to watch videos on Internet, genenral browing such as facebook, so in short, the internet was working fine. just before i went to bed that night i installed avg security (free version) and ran a full scan. when the scan finished, i put the laptop into hibernate, and went to sleep! happy in the knowledge my new gizmo was running smoothly!
just before i woke up i heard the laptop turn off as it had run out of charge. so i plugged it in and charged it up, then turned it on. this is where the problem starts...i connected via wifi however the logo at the bottom right of the screen showed the signal strength meter on empty, with a yellow star covering it. i clicked the icon, and it said, 'not connected, connections are available' and below shows im connected with 5/5 signal strength, but on 'limited access'.
1) there might be a problem with the driver for the local area connection adapter
2)there might be a problem with the driver for the wireless network connection adapter
there are 28 updates, but im unable to update them as i have no internet connection. i also cant connect via the ethernet cable.i cant roll back the drivers as there are no previously installed ones, and i cant update them as i am already up to date.my other laptop (acer aspire 5630 running on vista) works perfectly fine using wifi and the ethernet cable, so i honestly dont know whats wrong. after reading things on my acer about ways to fix the problem i came to the decision to restore the laptop to the time of my first installation which was adobe flash player (which i installed the day before.) i was unable to do a full factory reset as the only options available are to either restore to a backup, or re-install windows (which requires a disc, which i dont have). i also didnt configure a backup as i had only had the laptop a day!

Jun 18, 2011I wanted to create a new user with standard access and only give them access to my "C:" (programs) and not my "D:" (downloads) so after creating the user, I went to security settings under D: drive/properties and I denied "Authenticated Users". I obviously know now that that wasn't the right thing to do. After that happened, my admin account didn't have access to drive D. So I went back and switched it back to "Allow/full control" and my admin acct has access to my D drive now but there are files that are in the drive (not in folders) that are still showing denied when trying to open and 1 folder is also being denied. When I see the security settings on these files/folder it says "You do not have permission to view/edit...etc"
