Block Network Access By PID Instead Of Process Name?
Apr 14, 2011
I'm using Comodo and whenever I select scvhost.exe [812] and block it, the scvhost.exe [1004] gets blocked as well.
Extremely annoying because, the PID 1004 is required for my DNS to function... websites won't work right without it unless I type the IP address. [812] looks like some sort of Microsuck phone-home BS... whois has it registered to them. I have updates disabled so they need to get off my stuff!

I am getting this error all the time with Windows 7. I open a text file I want to edit, then go to save my changes and I get this error:"The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process".I have full admin rights, running Win7 Ultimate x64 SP1. From a bit of research I have seen where many others have been experiencing this problem or something similar too. The only "fix" (that doesn't work all the time) is to close explorer.exe and then restart it to "release the handle"? Anyway, this is not acceptable for all the money and time I spent upgrading/configuring this new OS from XP -where I never had this problem- and seriously cuts down my productivity.Has Microsoft even acknowledged this as a bug yet? I can duplicate this scenario the second or third time I try to edit/save/delete a text file and I know that explorer.exe is the problem or a big part of it in any case. I don't want to go back to XP x64 but having to deal with this headache 10-20 times a day is just too much to ask.The file here is a game's map script & has to be saved to a .pk3 and then loaded into the program's root before it can run so i know othing else is running the file. No apps running in taskmngr either.

I have a different setup in that I have two Windows 7 Pro machines in a workgroup. One machine RDPs into the other. I need to block IE access on both PCs still allowing RDP access. I know I can rename the executable and I think there may be a way to block port 80 in the windows firewall but is there anything else that I can do?

I'm trying to install this game onto my computer. (I've got Windows 7 Ultimate 64 Bit) Every time I click to run the .exe I either get that Windows cannot find the specified path, or that I don't have permission to run the program. I'm the administrator on my PC so I don't understand why I don't have access to run this program.

Is it possible to block an individual application's access to a specific folder? Let's say I have a folder called "Water" and and application called "Fire" Can I prevent "Fire" from reading "Water"? Meanwhile, any non-"Fire" application can continue reading "Water" without issue.
As per the FAQs my expertise is well above average, but I'm far from a systems admin. I'm a hobbyist C++ coder.

Basically all i want is to protect my content from getting copied to a USB FLASH Drive or through a ethernet cable to some other computer so all i want is to stop access to these places
I tried some of the things already -
1. Password protecting (does not work)
2. Disabling USB Flash Drive through BuduLock software (does not work)
SO all i want is a concrete and absolute solution, if there is one, to protect my data in my computer and stop it from being accessed by others through above stuffs i mentioned.

I'm looking to block a specific network both wired and wirelessly and wondering if there is a way to do this. I spend to much time on the internet when at home. I can now lock the computers so that during specific times I can't access the home network. HOWEVER I would like to configure one laptop computer so that it can't hook up to the home network at all. Not being able to connect with the network either hard wire or wirelessly. I want to be able to take that computer to other locations though and be able to hook up wirelessly to them. So in other words I couldn't connect to the home network but can connect to other networks.

My spouse's laptop has Windows 7 Professional and it contains a Citrix client VPN access to her work. For some reason, I do not have the details, Windows Updates clobbers the Citrix client, thereby she cannot access her work. Note that Windows performs these updates without asking the user if they want these updates to be performed. We have to uninstall the Windows Updates and reinstall the Citrix client to get her VPN working again. How can I setup her laptop to block (or at least ask the user) Windows from performing updates so that it does not affect her Citrix VPN access?

this one work in per computer but its time consuming for 30 computer each Quote: Open Windows Firewall with Advanced Security Click Outbound Rules (on the left side) Click Make New Rule (on the right side) Make sure "Program" is selected and click Next In "This Program Path" go to your Firefox Folder and click Firefox.exe Block the Connection, then you'll have 3 choices I usually leave them all selected. Name it.

I have two SATA hard disks on my Dell Precision 690. I had Windows XP (x64) pre-installed in first disk. Recently I installed Windows 7 in the other disk. The Windows 7 works well and I get options to log into either Windows at startup. But I curiously observe that I cannot VPN to my employer from that Windows 7 installation. Also, I installed LogMein and that too is blocked. I have installed VMWare on the Windows 7 and I could perfectly run VPN and LogMein from that VMWare installation. I have tried hundreds of advises and settings in the Services section to no avail. I even cleaned the Windows 7 install and started afresh; still cannot log to VPN

Last night I was on the internet at home absolutely fine and my laptop automatically downloaded an update, since then I have been unable to connect to my wi-fi. I deleted the updates and was still unable to connect, so I tried to used a system recovery restore point and every one I use starts but fails to complete. So, I did a factory reset after around 8 hours of trying to sort it out today and I STILL have the same problem. I can plug in the cable to connect and my housemate is having absolutely no issues connecting and neither is my phone so now I am at a total loss what I should do to resolve this. Prior to the factory reset I was able to connect to the wi-fi but it was stating no network access/limited access and now it simply won't connect to my internet at all. It finds my full strength signal but will not connect. My drivers for the Broadcom 4313 802.11b/g/n card are the most up to date and the laptop (HP G62) says it is working fine.

Today, I managed to redecorate my bedroom; where my computer sat on top of a shaky, wooden desk. That desk is now gone, caput, and replaced by a much bigger, sturdier and prettier glass replacement. Before I dissasembled the computer to re-decorate, I was able to browse the internet at ease. There were no problems at all...However, after the new desk was setup - and all wires replaced in their correct slots, I find that I am unable to connect to the internet, or even the house's network! For the past year, I have been wired to the router using a RTL8168C(P)/8111C(P) Family PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet NIC. It was plugged into an extension cord, in my room, into the Ethernet port in the back of my computer. Downstairs, it's twin was situated no less than 2 feet away from the router - plugged into the first port. Now, when I boot up the computer, the network notification presents the following message: "Unidentified Network. No network access", and sometimes presents a yellow ! next to it. So, I am reduced to typing on my mother's laptop - which has no problems connecting to the network.I am able to use the ipconfig /release command, but unable to use the /renew - it hangs in the command prompt, then tells me that the DHCP server cannot be located. The IP, beforehand, was reverted to 169.254.223.117 - before all of this, I was 192.168.0.5?

I have 2 different laptops. both running Windows7 and connecting to the internet wirelessly. within a few days of each other they both began to display "Currently connected to: Unidentified network No network access" and they will not let me get on the internet. It is not my router becuase It shows the same thing no matter where I try to connect. I have tried my gym and a local restaurant that I have always had success connecting to before. Furthermore my WindowsXP desktop is directly connected and is connecting to the internet without any problems. My laptops are both running AVG for antivirus.

Yesterday it worked and when I booted today it didn't I have absolutely no idea what the problem is and I have checked everything I know with no use.
- I am using d-Lan (PowerLan) and have had no problems with it until today.
- My router, modem and the d-lan devices are functioning properly which I have tested multiple times so I'm sure the problem lies with my computer.
- I have tried Troubleshooting with no effect
- It isn't an IP conflict
- It isn't a 3rd party program (I started it in safe mode, same problem)
- Internet still works over my W-Lan but is incredibly slow and unstable

For boxing day, I bought myself a new Computer case, a Cooler Master HAF 932. After setting it up and booting my computer, without any problems, my Internet would not work.
I attached the Network & Sharing Centre screen to show you what it says. I've tried many things, switching cables, direct input from modem (I use a router), and all sorts of guides that have similar problems.

New dell n7110/win7sp1x64.At startup on new machine from dell, process explorer (procexp64.exe) lists 81 processes running (seems like way too many - compared to xp with maybe 25 at startup). But which processes I can turn off is a question for another day. OK, read carefully, at least 15 processes in PE show " Path: error opening process". PID, CPU, Private Bytes, and working set columns are shown for these "problem" processes, but nothing after that, ie, description, company name etc. For all other listed running processes (with known paths), all info is shown in all columns. The problem processes include some important ones, services, crss, ism, wininit, winlogon, that must to be working for the computer to work, and everything seems to be working properly, and no cpu spikes or other weird stuff is happening. Right clicking properties on these problem processes, properties window pops up as normal, but shows "version: n/a, build: n/a, path: error opening process, no command line, no current directory, autostart location: n/a, Parent: non existent process (708), user: access denied. Again, this info can not be correct since the computer is working. And then, after a few minutes, another window pops up and says PE has stopped working, and closes the program. Now, if this was the whole story, I would go to sysinternals with this, but read on... Task manager running simultaneously with PE lists 83 processes running, more processes than PE, and also ~5 different processes than PE, and PE lists some processes running that TM doesn't list. So PE and TM show different running processes at the same time. How can that be? For the processes that PE shows "error opening", e.g., crss, etc., when I click properties in TM for the same process, sometimes I get the usual/normal pop-up window listing the path, and all the other data as normal, suggesting the process is working properly. But sometimes when I click properties in TM for the processes that PE shows "error opening", I get no pop-up at all, nothing for that process. So, IMO, it's not just a PE glitch, something is actually wrong here. This is a new machine, with PE the only 3rd party installation. I have installed several dell driver updates, but this problem occurred before I installed them. Also, remember PE and TM simultaneously list some different running processes and TM also fails to show paths, etc.

The company that i work for has just bought five new HP Compaq 6000 Pro running Win7 64bit (one for each department i.e. Trade Finance, Operations, Compliance, Accounts & Credit). I created standard user account for each member of the respective departments as well as admin account for myself. I setup a workgroup to connect all PCs to share a printer that is connected directly to one of the PC (Credit dept).
Here's the problem:
Three of the PCs (Trade Finance, Operations & Compliance) can access Credit PC and vice versa without any problem. However, Accounts PC will get an error message: "Logon failure: the user has not been granted the requested logon type at this computer" everytime trying to access Credit PC when login as standard user. But when I login as admin, I don't get any error whatsoever. Same thing happen when I login from Credit PC and access Accounts PC. No error.
I have disabled the firewall for both Accounts & Credit PCs and even changed all user accounts for Accounts PC to admin but still keep geeting the same error message.

I have this machine and an XP machine on my network. The XP machine has the link layer hotfix installed for SP3. Both machines are fully updated.
Now I had a couple of hard drives shared and the XP machine had access to them without any issues at all. I needed more space on the music drive which was an external USB drive. I bought a Western Digital 500Gb internal sata drive and installed it. I moved the music to the new drive and shared the drive the same as the other drives were shared.
This is where it gets weird. The new drive shows up as a network location on the XP machine however it cannot be accessed. I get an error saying I need to make sure I have proper privileges. I do have them because the drive has full access for everyone assigned to it in permissions. The XP machine can still access the other drive I have shared with all my videos on it. So the problem is only with the new drive and all of the settings check out.
Anyone else have this kind of problem?

I have two internet connections, BSNL Broadband and Reliance Netconnect. I have been using both connections since last year and I have never faced this problem of "Unidentified network" and "No network connection". It was only in June this year that I began facing this problem. When my BSNL is connected, my PC does not detect it yet I can access internet. The networking icon in the task bar shows a Yellow Caution sign. When I use Reliance Netconnect, I can access internet but now, the yellow caution does not even appear, in fact there is a red cross. I have tried numerous trouble shooting steps like the cmd commands, disabling and enabling network adapters, etc but to no avail. However, when I put this in cmd "netsh winsock reset catalog", Reliance suddenly showed as active when I rebooted my PC. The Origin service of Electronic Arts happily went online. Then I disconnected Reliance and tried BSNL but no luck there. I reverted to Reliance and again the same problem. I repeated the steps again but still the same problem.
