UAC Permission For Windows 7 Upgrades
Sep 28, 2012Since a re-install of Win 7, everytime I boot I get a UAC pop up asking if I want to allow Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor to make changes to my system. Even though I select NO it keeps coming up at each boot. Do I really need to have this program installed and/or how do I stop that from coming up each time?

My laptop came pre installed with some softwares and features for which I wasn't provided any driver/SW CD so the only way to keep these softwares intact is to upgrade (from what I understand, upgrading windows doesn't wipe off your softwares and program files?)What I've already tried:It seems windows basic can't be directly upgraded to ultimate using windows anytime upgrade. I tried and upgrade failed.I have windows 7 ultimate 64bit installation CD and product key, is there any way to upgrade my system using that and not do a clean windows install?If everything fails, is there any safe to use program or method to get setup files of my existing program files so I can reinstall them after clean windows install?

Oct 16, 2009Have a bunch of machines waiting for the pre-order upgrade disks coming Oct 22. Several posts have said that the RTM is the same installer that will be shipped as upgrade. Is it possible to do the upgrades from XP and Vista now without waiting for the activation, then input it when it arrives shortly?
I started to try this last night and wasn't prompted for any key after starting RTM disk from desktop, selecting custom and selecting partition to install. Is this because the Upgrade disks have special code required for reading the XP/Vista activation when asking for Windows 7 upgrade key?
Also if upgrade can be installed to a different partition, then it seems there is a way to get a completely clean install running the installer from the XP/Vista desktop on HDD and installing to another HDD? I am trying to figure out how to get the cleanest possible install here without overwriting if poss.
Win 7 Key Not Required For Upgrades?
Dec 12, 2009I've done a lot of Windows 7 upgrades for people and I've noticed that I've never had to enter any kind of key when upgrading a properly activated copy of Vista, I think even during clean installs...
Does it activate automatically or is it just a matter of it waiting a week before yelling at you about it?

Windows 7 Startup Loop?
Jun 19, 2011I have had my computer for around a year now and it has come pre installed with windows 7. it has recently stated going to the windows start up repair. it goes trying to find a problem then it say windows is unable to locate the issue or something like that. i am by no means a computer wiz but i have tried restoring from a previous date but it say that file is corrupt i am also unable to start in safe mode i have looked around for a few days now on the internet to come up with a solution but with no success

I was using iObit and I remember seeing something about a rootkit something or another and boot.img file and I did not remove the file as it had the boot.img file, and thats kind of an important file. Anyways after trying to restore and completely reformatting the rd drive, I've had no luck getting the computer past the Windows Splash screen without getting restart windows normally or windows repair options.

I've found the Fix HDD controller program, but my 500GB HDD (which stores my W7) is not recognized. It is recognized in the UEFI BIOS, but not in miniXP.

I could not figure out why . Most of the times , it would not get past the starting windows logo . At times , the desktop gets loaded and restarts . Dec 15, 2010I have had Windows 7 64bit Pro on my computer for around 10 months. I use an Upgrade version through my University that works exactly like a normal copy of Windows 7. I have had no problems with it until now. When I start it up normally and choose Windows 7 (I also have Windows XP pro on my computer) and after about 10 seconds my computer automatically restarts. I tried the Repair My Computer option 3 times and the Last Known Good Configuration twice with no success. When I start it up in Safe Mode, 7 works for about three seconds and then goes to a Blue Screen before restarting.I honestly do not know what is wrong with my computer. I have checked all of the internal connections and there doesn't appear to be anything unplugged or messed up with them in general.

May 3, 2012I was using EASUS partitioning tool to repartition my hard disc a few days ago as my C: drive was running out of space. I merged the C: drive (which is my system drive) with my D: drive (which contains a lot of data as well). All seems to be going well, but after the usual reconfiguration and restart, my windows 7 is stuck in the startup repair screen. Windows is trying to repair my startup without success, which is resulting in a loop. Fortunately i am able to go into safe mode and save my data.

Aug 5, 2012I am using my iPhone to try to figure out my computer. So it is the only one I have. It is in a constant loop of windows not starting and trying to fix errors then says it can't, I can't get it to load in safe mode or anything else. I can use the box where u put in commands and found my registry hive says 0 bytes. I do not know how to fix this. And I do not have a windows disk cause it came already installed. So how can I fix this and what do I need to do or try.

Windows 7 Infinite Reboot Loop
Nov 6, 2012Yesterday I was installing XP on one of partitions I made for it,because I had problems recording stereo tracks for studio on Windows 7( in my previous encounters like that,it worked on XP ).After installation of XP it would restart and just give Unable to load operating system and I couldn't boot in Windows 7 because as most of you probably know,XP overwrites boot section of Windows 7( but that's an easy fix with EasyBCD ).Now I tried fixing the problem with Windows 7 installation DVD and startup repair but no use,then I tried MBR tutorial and it got me to splash screen,but that's where my infinite loop started.Then I tried doing backup with command prompt as in one of tutorials here: Startup Repair Infinite Loop Recovery but no results unfortunately. Or am I going to be forced to do clean install? I temporarily installed Windows 8 Release Preview on XP partition just so I can do stuff until Windows 7 is fixed.

Aug 17, 2011My sister has a miniHP 110, which was experiencing virus troubles, so I offered to do a factory restore. I have used that option several times on my regular HP laptop with no issues, but on her's, it's giving me the error message 'Windows cannot complete the installation in safe mode. to continue installing windows, restart the computer.' It goes on in a loop. I've tried booting it in safe mode, but to no avail. I've been playing around with it for a couple of days, and got to the screen where you choose accounts from. It said the account had been disabled, and to check with my administrator. I would go through the trouble of getting a windows 7 disk, but with this version of HPmini, there is no disk drive. I'm at a complete loss, is there anything I can do?

Nov 5, 2011I have Windows 7 x64 Enterprise installed on a slightly older mother board (Asus MB 775 Intel with 2 GB of RAM) and has worked well for a couple of years or so. I am passing this MB/CPU/RAM combo to my son's computer and have purchased an upgraded MB/CPU/RAM.I've purchased an ASRock H61/U3S3 MB, 2x2GB RAM, Intel i7 2600. In swapping out the MB, I just attempted to plug my hard drive into this MB without doing any installation/upgrade. Unfortunately, when I plugged in the hard drive and turned it on, the computer froze on startup and more specifically, on loading the file CLASSPNP.SYS. So I figured I would have to do a fresh install of Windows. I have an identical hard drive for mirroring and deleted the partition, created new one, formatted, then attempted the reinstall. I began the installation, it copied over all of the files, installed, restarted, then when it was starting it restarted (apparently prematurely). When it restarts after locking up, I receive the error: "The computer restarted unexpectedly or encounter an expected error. Windows installation cannot proceed. To install Windows, click 'OK' to restart the computer, and the restart the installation." and so the loop goes on. I've clicked OK many times, but without restarting the installation this error comes up each time. During the final stages of completing the installation of Windows, the computer appears to randomly restart. I'm pretty much stuck and will contact the store that sold me the MB as a last resort.

I could not boot into windows via safe mode or any other method. I ended up reinstalling Windows 7 and everything looked fine until I rebooted. The startup repair loop started again. Frustrated at this point I formated the hard drive and installed Windows XP. It was working great for a while even after I rebooted several times. I went to bed and then today turned the laptop back on and I got the unmountable_boot_volume blue screen.I also have ran chkdsk multiple times and it doesnt find anything to repair. I also ran a memory test (even though I did not believe that is/was the issue and it came back with no errors.

Aug 6, 2011I bought a new pc from aria.co.uk, it came in good nic and works fine. I booted up the pc, noticing a very strange lack of any motherboard logos or bios buttons, and proceeded to insatll windows 7. I chose the 64 bit version, I got to the part where it says it is going to restart windows in 5,4,3 etc. It restarted, only for the windows installation to start back at the very first setup screen. I looked at the partitions in custom install and it said that both partitions had installed correctly, my problem was getting to the oncluding install option. I shut down the pc, and took out the windows disc and restarted it. Again no bios options, just a black screen saying "loading operating system" and then "windows did not start correctly" , it took about 20 seconds for the screen to change and then immediately restarted itself taking another 20 seconds? It loaded the windows files and I was releived to get to the final setup screen. After finishing the installation it told me it was going to restart windows, which it did, only for it to reset itself about 3 times, again saying "loading operating system"..... I had a play around with pc, altering the resoluton and stuff, and shut it down for about 5 minutes. When I turned it on it told me "windows did not start correctly" and took me system repair, in which it found a problem and couldn't fix it. The hardware was fine, but it said "a patch stopped the system from starting". It is very hit and miss and sometimes starts normally and sometimes takes me directly into system repair. I managed to get into the bios once by pressing delete rapidly at boot up, and hardrive was selected as priority, so that couldn't be the problem involving windows.

Aug 16, 2011My original os is windows 7. So today I connected a hard drive from a windows xp machine so I could transfer some files. When I powered the computer back on I got a blue screen right after the windows 7 loading screen and the computer rebooted. I then got the black screen asking if I want safe mode last known configuration or start windows normally. I chose start normally and i got bluescreen/rebooted back to this screen. I then chose last known good configuration and was bluescreen/rebooted back to the screen, this time I chose safe mode. Safe mode began to load files and then stopped at mup.sys bluescreened and rebooted. The system then tried to do the windows repair thing and I did the system restore option and rebooted, this didnt help and I put in my windows 7 installation cd hit repair and tried bootrec.exe, none of the options worked [fixmbr fixboot etc] and the system doesnt recognize that any OS are installed.

Before I reinstall my OS I want to attempt to at get it started up so I can backup up some emails at least. I have all the files I need. From reading on the Internets I may have attached some malware which changed a registry value which controls the login. I cannot remember the path anymore but i did did find it. Anyways, I just need to get to my desktop. As of right now I am looking at the login screens, I have tried the system repair with the Win7 DVD, and I think I can get on safe mode.

Jan 27, 2011Okay so i have this machine, acer m3100, that originally had windows vista. I tried to do a clean install of windows 7, with an original windows 7 installation cd.Everything would go okay until right after the computer restarts and goes to the part of COMPLETING INSTALLATION. At that moment my screen suddenly flashes with the blue screen of death. i wasnt able to right the error that shows up though. Then the computer restarts and goes to setup devices and right after that an error message appears saying, windows did not complete installation, due to an unexpected restart, restart the computer and restart the installation. If i click okay it will go into an endless loop. Restarting one time after another. So i thought i would install windows vista again. Try to make things the way they were before, but i get the same error. i'm only able to install xp. With XP everything works fine. I do want to be able to install windows 7 though.

May 24, 2011I have a windows 7 pro 64 bit HP desktop computer that will not load windows. I have tried safemode, safemode w/ networking, and last know good config. I've run startup repair both from windowsRE and an original windows 7 pro disk. I have attempted multiple system restores (non destructive) to a number of different dates. The system restores say that they work but the machine still loops.
I know it's just some small windows corruption. I would have no trouble backing up my files with a linux distribution live flash drive and restoring the OS but I REALLY don't want to do that. How can I identify and repair the problem without starting from scratch. I'm familiar with msdos cli, but don't know which commands (if any) will help. I also don't know of any live CD's/ tools that will allow me to fix this problem. My problem here is simply lack of information.
