So I'm sure you guys have noticed this before. On another computer (vista home prem) I updated Windows and it got stuck on the loop when restarted finishing up at the 3 of 3 ( 0 % ) areaI don't have any disk to insert, all I have is another vista ultimate but I don't want to install that on the computer. What can I do? Is there something that I can download to flash drive to boot from to where I could be able to create a system restore
View 1 Replieson March 13, the "tuesday windows update packet" started updating my system automatically. It auto downloaded the updates (which I didn't realize it was even updating) It seemed to be hanging on the shut down screen. I came into the room about 2 hours later and Windows was still shutting down (actually it was on the blue screen that says, shutting down) Not knowing that the computer updating, I shut the computer off by hitting the power button because I thought it was weird it didn't shut down 2 hours earlier. I have read other posts where people also experienced this same scenario... the update seemed to freeze the computer at shutdown.The next day I tried to boot up... and the computer would not boot to the desktop, even in Safe Mode. I tried to do a system restore, system repair, etc. to dates before March 13... even Feb. 28th... but system restore did not work.
After 5 hours of trying various entries into the command prompt... I found this one that worked.:
dism.exe /image:<drive letter>: /cleanup-image /revertpendingactions
sfc /scannow /offbootdir=<drive letter>: /offwindir=<drive letter>:Windows BUT... my problems aren't totally clear yet:
I was able to load back into the desktop with almost everything functioning properly. Once the computer loaded back up to the desktop... I checked windows update and 5 of the updates failed. So, I started to update them one by one, which they did successfully... except one. The last update on the list, which is a Windows 7 x64 critical update KB2639308... still isn't updating properly and... it causes the infinite startup loop if I try to update. I read on Microsoft Answers that several others were having the same exact problem as me... the first time they downloaded the update, it froze their computers at the shutdown screen for hours and hours, they turned off their computers and got stuck in the infinite startup loop.Also, when it goes into the infinite loop, and I run Startup Repair, the diagnostic passes all tests except it does say this: Startup repair Diagnosis and repair details:

while watching Internet, got many popups about java update. when it was updated, computer went re-booting and after the dell/win 7's logo, a warning to start in safemode appeared and it starts doing(safemode) itself. ater crunching, it gives bsod with error mentioned below. (btw it gives you system restore option when pressing f' keys, but ends up in the same loop after crunching and restart. command mode option shows, but does not comes up when hit. dell's diagnotstic cd for 32bit shows no hardware problems.)

Today windows downloaded and installed SP1 automatically. After that, the power went off, when it came back and I booted the PC it started updating as it would usually do, it finished updating then rebooted and started updating again, this happened around three times (no failure, just installs over and over again). I became tired so I shut it down and it displayed "Failure configuring Service pack. Reverting changes", after that it rebooted again but began installing the SP once more, I rebooted again in safe mode and it began reverting changes once more only to reboot again and attempt to update once more.Right now it's reverting changes once more and I'm just sitting here waiting and I don't know what to do (also, it's been reverting for quite a long time, around 30 minutes)
View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm out of ideas. I've been running Win 7 on this machine for more than a year without issues in updating etc. Now it will not search or update/install critical items. I'm running Symantec (even tried turning the firewall off without any success). I get an error code 80072F7C. When I run hijackthis, I get an error message that my system denied write access to the Hosts file. I proceed with the scan but am unable to produce a log file. I've included a screenshot from the windows update error as well as the error I get when trying to run hijack this.

I was using iObit and I remember seeing something about a rootkit something or another and boot.img file and I did not remove the file as it had the boot.img file, and thats kind of an important file. Anyways after trying to restore and completely reformatting the rd drive, I've had no luck getting the computer past the Windows Splash screen without getting restart windows normally or windows repair options.

I've found the Fix HDD controller program, but my 500GB HDD (which stores my W7) is not recognized. It is recognized in the UEFI BIOS, but not in miniXP.

After installing it, whenever my laptop tries to use the Nvidia card, I get a blue screen and the system restarts. I looked in installed updates to uninstall it, and it is not there. I did a system restore to four days before I installed it, and I still get the same effect. Lastly, I installed some older nvidia drivers that used to work using the clean install option, and I still have this problem.
A while back, after successfully downloading and installing some updates in the Windows Update, it prompted me to restart the computer to finish the update installation process. However, I continued to use the computer for quite some time before restarting it, and then when it tried to configure the updates on the start-up screen, it showed that it was not successful in doing so. In the past, I noticed that this would typically happen when I did not restart the computer immediately (or within a short time) after the updates finished and I got the prompt to restart. I would have to go to Windows Update and do it over again, and then upon immediate restart, it would always work properly. But this time, it did not, and I keep getting the 8000FFFF error message instead.
Also, now, every time I start the computer, it shows that it's "Preparing to configure Windows... Do not shut off computer" (presumably the updates that never got completely and correctly configured) in the start-up screen... gets to 35%..fails... shuts down (screen goes black)... restarts again... tries to configure again, fails again, shuts down and restarts again... tries to configure again, fails again, and finally it apparently gives up and says "reverting changes" and finally goes to the desktop.I've looked at the answers in several threads at the answers.microsoft.com forum that were started by people with similar problems, and also tried several of the Microsoft "FixIt" files on the Microsoft site, but none of them worked. I'm using Windows 7 Home Premium.
I 'got' windows 7 home premium 64 bit edition, went through the install, got to completing installation, then just as it finished it told me some error involving it being unable to do something with a certain piece of system hardware. I don't remember the exact message.Now it's just restarting and telling me that windows failed to install, and that I should press ok to restart.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have had Windows 7 64bit Pro on my computer for around 10 months. I use an Upgrade version through my University that works exactly like a normal copy of Windows 7. I have had no problems with it until now. When I start it up normally and choose Windows 7 (I also have Windows XP pro on my computer) and after about 10 seconds my computer automatically restarts. I tried the Repair My Computer option 3 times and the Last Known Good Configuration twice with no success. When I start it up in Safe Mode, 7 works for about three seconds and then goes to a Blue Screen before restarting.I honestly do not know what is wrong with my computer. I have checked all of the internal connections and there doesn't appear to be anything unplugged or messed up with them in general.

I merged the C: drive (which is my system drive) with my D: drive (which contains a lot of data as well). All seems to be going well, but after the usual reconfiguration and restart, my windows 7 is stuck in the startup repair screen. Windows is trying to repair my startup without success, which is resulting in a loop. Fortunately i am able to go into safe mode and save my data.

It is in a constant loop of windows not starting and trying to fix errors then says it can't, I can't get it to load in safe mode or anything else. I can use the box where u put in commands and found my registry hive says 0 bytes. I do not know how to fix this. And I do not have a windows disk cause it came already installed. So how can I fix this and what do I need to do or try.
I do have a Windows 7 product key on the back of my computer.
Yesterday I was installing XP on one of partitions I made for it,because I had problems recording stereo tracks for studio on Windows 7( in my previous encounters like that,it worked on XP ).After installation of XP it would restart and just give Unable to load operating system and I couldn't boot in Windows 7 because as most of you probably know,XP overwrites boot section of Windows 7( but that's an easy fix with EasyBCD ).Now I tried fixing the problem with Windows 7 installation DVD and startup repair but no use,then I tried MBR tutorial and it got me to splash screen,but that's where my infinite loop started.Then I tried doing backup with command prompt as in one of tutorials here: Startup Repair Infinite Loop Recovery but no results unfortunately. Or am I going to be forced to do clean install? I temporarily installed Windows 8 Release Preview on XP partition just so I can do stuff until Windows 7 is fixed.

I have used that option several times on my regular HP laptop with no issues, but on her's, it's giving me the error message 'Windows cannot complete the installation in safe mode. to continue installing windows, restart the computer.' It goes on in a loop. I've tried booting it in safe mode, but to no avail. I've been playing around with it for a couple of days, and got to the screen where you choose accounts from. It said the account had been disabled, and to check with my administrator. I would go through the trouble of getting a windows 7 disk, but with this version of HPmini, there is no disk drive. I'm at a complete loss, is there anything I can do?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have Windows 7 x64 Enterprise installed on a slightly older mother board (Asus MB 775 Intel with 2 GB of RAM) and has worked well for a couple of years or so. I am passing this MB/CPU/RAM combo to my son's computer and have purchased an upgraded MB/CPU/RAM.I've purchased an ASRock H61/U3S3 MB, 2x2GB RAM, Intel i7 2600. In swapping out the MB, I just attempted to plug my hard drive into this MB without doing any installation/upgrade. Unfortunately, when I plugged in the hard drive and turned it on, the computer froze on startup and more specifically, on loading the file CLASSPNP.SYS. So I figured I would have to do a fresh install of Windows. I have an identical hard drive for mirroring and deleted the partition, created new one, formatted, then attempted the reinstall. I began the installation, it copied over all of the files, installed, restarted, then when it was starting it restarted (apparently prematurely). When it restarts after locking up, I receive the error: "The computer restarted unexpectedly or encounter an expected error. Windows installation cannot proceed. To install Windows, click 'OK' to restart the computer, and the restart the installation." and so the loop goes on. I've clicked OK many times, but without restarting the installation this error comes up each time. During the final stages of completing the installation of Windows, the computer appears to randomly restart. I'm pretty much stuck and will contact the store that sold me the MB as a last resort.

It is now stuck on a loop saying that Windows could not finish installation. Please restart to finish. I've restarted it several times and am still getting this message. View 1 Replies View RelatedI am currently working on an emachines e525 (its for a friend, I would never buy an emachine) and when I got the machine it was stuck in a boot loop to the startup repair. I could not boot into windows via safe mode or any other method. I ended up reinstalling Windows 7 and everything looked fine until I rebooted. The startup repair loop started again. Frustrated at this point I formated the hard drive and installed Windows XP. It was working great for a while even after I rebooted several times. I went to bed and then today turned the laptop back on and I got the unmountable_boot_volume blue screen.I also have ran chkdsk multiple times and it doesnt find anything to repair. I also ran a memory test (even though I did not believe that is/was the issue and it came back with no errors.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI bought a new pc from aria.co.uk, it came in good nic and works fine. I booted up the pc, noticing a very strange lack of any motherboard logos or bios buttons, and proceeded to insatll windows 7. I chose the 64 bit version, I got to the part where it says it is going to restart windows in 5,4,3 etc. It restarted, only for the windows installation to start back at the very first setup screen. I looked at the partitions in custom install and it said that both partitions had installed correctly, my problem was getting to the oncluding install option. I shut down the pc, and took out the windows disc and restarted it. Again no bios options, just a black screen saying "loading operating system" and then "windows did not start correctly" , it took about 20 seconds for the screen to change and then immediately restarted itself taking another 20 seconds? It loaded the windows files and I was releived to get to the final setup screen. After finishing the installation it told me it was going to restart windows, which it did, only for it to reset itself about 3 times, again saying "loading operating system"..... I had a play around with pc, altering the resoluton and stuff, and shut it down for about 5 minutes. When I turned it on it told me "windows did not start correctly" and took me system repair, in which it found a problem and couldn't fix it. The hardware was fine, but it said "a patch stopped the system from starting". It is very hit and miss and sometimes starts normally and sometimes takes me directly into system repair. I managed to get into the bios once by pressing delete rapidly at boot up, and hardrive was selected as priority, so that couldn't be the problem involving windows.

When I powered the computer back on I got a blue screen right after the windows 7 loading screen and the computer rebooted. I then got the black screen asking if I want safe mode last known configuration or start windows normally. I chose start normally and i got bluescreen/rebooted back to this screen. I then chose last known good configuration and was bluescreen/rebooted back to the screen, this time I chose safe mode. Safe mode began to load files and then stopped at mup.sys bluescreened and rebooted. The system then tried to do the windows repair thing and I did the system restore option and rebooted, this didnt help and I put in my windows 7 installation cd hit repair and tried bootrec.exe, none of the options worked [fixmbr fixboot etc] and the system doesnt recognize that any OS are installed.

Before I reinstall my OS I want to attempt to at get it started up so I can backup up some emails at least. I have all the files I need. From reading on the Internets I may have attached some malware which changed a registry value which controls the login. I cannot remember the path anymore but i did did find it. Anyways, I just need to get to my desktop. As of right now I am looking at the login screens, I have tried the system repair with the Win7 DVD, and I think I can get on safe mode.

I tried to do a clean install of windows 7, with an original windows 7 installation cd.Everything would go okay until right after the computer restarts and goes to the part of COMPLETING INSTALLATION. At that moment my screen suddenly flashes with the blue screen of death. i wasnt able to right the error that shows up though. Then the computer restarts and goes to setup devices and right after that an error message appears saying, windows did not complete installation, due to an unexpected restart, restart the computer and restart the installation. If i click okay it will go into an endless loop. Restarting one time after another. So i thought i would install windows vista again. Try to make things the way they were before, but i get the same error. i'm only able to install xp. With XP everything works fine. I do want to be able to install windows 7 though.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a windows 7 pro 64 bit HP desktop computer that will not load windows. I have tried safemode, safemode w/ networking, and last know good config. I've run startup repair both from windowsRE and an original windows 7 pro disk. I have attempted multiple system restores (non destructive) to a number of different dates. The system restores say that they work but the machine still loops.
I know it's just some small windows corruption. I would have no trouble backing up my files with a linux distribution live flash drive and restoring the OS but I REALLY don't want to do that. How can I identify and repair the problem without starting from scratch. I'm familiar with msdos cli, but don't know which commands (if any) will help. I also don't know of any live CD's/ tools that will allow me to fix this problem. My problem here is simply lack of information.
I was in the middle of reinstalling Windows 7 and the power went out. The computer Dell Inspiron 1440 is caught in a continuous loop. I have 3 options to choose from when I power up the computer:
Windows 7
Windows RollBack and
Another Windows 7.
Regardless of what option I choose (I tried all 3) it goes to a second screen where I have 2 options: Launch Start up repair or start windows normally. Regardless of which of those options I choose it goes back to the first 3 choices (Windows 7 Windows Roll setup rollback or Windows 7). I can't make any progress. I have tried booting from safe mode (F8) and it still will not boot. It blinks safe mode for a few seconds then reboots and goes through the same continuous loop.
I am trying to boot from the CD; I am using an external CD drive as the internal drive does not work properly. The boot sequence it set to the CD drive first. I have tried everything I can think of and I have been searching the internet for days and I cannot figure out how to get this system back up. I do not care if I lose everything on the drive. MI have all the discs from Dell.
