I am going to reinstall Win 7 Ultimate from a USB. I have been following your guide but i wanted to ask - I have downloaded my ISO file from Heidos. Its showing as an archive. I think this is normal? To be sure I DON'T need to extract this do I? It will be automatically done by the USB creation and /or install process ?

tell me if a re-install from a system image file on my notebook is as good as a clean install from say a retail disk.I can not format all my drive and start a fresh. Can my System image file become glitchy or infected with a virus.?

New computer above and my previous computer have Windows Updates for the same file with no KB number. Both computers have tried to install the update numerous times but fail. It says the file is Windows Internet Explorer 9. I get an error code 9C48 for which I find little info The new machine was put together April 11 and shows IE9 being installed on that date and I am already running IE 9.
I just built my first computer, and it has an SSD and an HDD. I installed a fresh copy of Windows 7 on the brand new SSD, and on the C Drive I'm seeing a windows.old file that is 11.5GB, and there is a windows file that is 12.3GB. I don't get this at all. Like I said, it is my first computer.....everything seemed to go well with the build, and sp far things are working, but I know this isn't right. This was a brand new drive, like I said, I do remember when it was going through the different parts of the install, and restarting several times, that it seemed like it was staarting at the beginning again.....as If when it had finished, I didn't take the DVD out, and was basically starting the install "again"....if that makes sense, I stopped it, and pulled the DVD and it booted up, and seems o.k.

2. Hardware passes Windows 7 compatibility test.
3. The install DVD can be read properly. Creating an ISO image of it works perfectly. No read errors on the disk itself.
4. The optical drive is practically brand new, the cable is brand new, never had any I/O errors using this drive.
5. RAM passes MS memory testing 6 times. 0 errors.
6. Windows 7 Ultimate install fails at the same point, during file unpacking, 3 times. Says files are missing or corrupt.
The install disk was created at home from an ISO download, student licensed Windows 7 Ultimate, 32 bit but I don't think that really matters. See #3.Is there anything else left to look at? Any ideas why this won't work?
is there anyway i can do this? also i dont know how to do it from the bios i also want to make sure there are no traces of vista and all data is gone.

I have recently built my own computer. The only thing i was missing was an OS. I downloaded Windows 7 home premium 64 bit(from microsoft's partner Digital River). I took the ISO file onto my USB stick and tried to plug it in to my new computer. It did not work, which was logical. Then i used "Windows 7 USB/DVD download tool" from Microsoft, to make the usb bootable and the ISO. when it was done, i tried to plug the USB stick into my new computer, sadly it did not work. Then i tried to install the OS on a virtual machine "Oracle virtual box". I mounted the ISO file to the DVD drive on my laptop. Then i opened up virtual box to install the OS. It worked! I do not know why i does not work when i try to install it from the usb stick on my new computer.

This system is so sluggish it either has multiple infections or is just overloaded given its puny 512 MB of RAM, so I can't really use the system specs utility at the moment.Since I'm working on a similar clean install for an ACER notebook which is Win7HP 32-bit, what are the chances that the .iso file I'm burning to DVD can also be used for this much older technology. I have no problem upgrading the RAM to its max, unless it's already at its max?
My company computer (hooked up to our internal network; no homegroup) has just had a fresh install of Windows 7 Pro 64-bit. I went through the process of mapping network drives and had a problem when it came to connecting to IP addresses and folders in the format of '\servershared folder'. Turned out that I had to change a security setting.
Following the instructions on this site, I was able to resolve that issue. These network locations are CNC machines and the files that I am placing on the machines contain CNC code (G&M code and X, Y, Z values for 3D machining). Basically, G&M code cannot have multiple X, Y or Z values on the same line (it wouldn't make sense to go to two X locations in the same move).
When I transfer CNC files from a network location (all of our files are stored on a server) to the CNC machine, they occasionally get corrupted where part of one file is contained in another file. I have tried transferring one at a time and in bulk, both with the same result.

So i bought Windows 7 Home Premium from the same store i got this at (Webhallen, pretty much swedens largest component retailer) to replace the standard Home edition (which i got with my "old" packard bell!).
I have 2 HDDs, one from the packard bell (1tb) and one i recieved from a friend, a 320gb seagate. I ran with both in my packard bell for a while, using the 320gb for the system. It ran without any problems.So, i boot the CD, go through the setup and format the 320GB. (I also formatted some reserved space for OEM files from the Packard bell harddrive since i won't be using the packard bell any time soon).I proceed with the installation.The copying of the files goes very quick and when it reaches the expanding of files it takes ages before it finally comes to the error:Windows cannot install required files. The file may be corrupt or missing. Make sure all files required for installation are available, and restart the installation. Error code: 0x80070017.Immedieatly i whipped up the laptop and googled it, trying the different "sollutions" to no avail, like simply trying to install again without rebooting, taking out a RAM stick and only running with one in the master slot, taking out all excess Harddrives etc etc. i also ran Memtest86, clean, no errors!
I tried install Ubuntu on it, but that didn't go well either. It loaded for ages and then i got a very strange horizontal black and white striped screen, the black stripes being jagged and pixelated.I found my old windows 7 home cd from my packard bell and tried installing with that one. Same result, Error code: 0x80070017.
Old post, look for more info. Okay, boopme directed me to here, how do I preform a system file check without a windows 7 install disc handy? I have oem, so is all the win7 computers on my property, am I sunk?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI just did a custom install from Vista to Windows 7 with an upgrade disc. After completing the setup, deleting windows.old, and reinstalling all of my programs, I noticed that there were old folders on the C: drive. It is as if it didn't move anything from the root drive to the windows.old file.
I'm annoyed at myself for not noticing it sooner. Now I don't want to do another install since I spent all that time reinstalling the programs and configuring them for personal use.
I'm tempted to go in and just delete the old folders from the root drive, but I'm nervous. Honestly, I can't be certain of what should and shouldn't be there.
Is there anyway I can tell which folders on the root drive are leftovers? I thought about deleting according to the date modified stamp, but I'm not certain that is safe either.
Can anyone advise me? I really don't want to do another install of Windows 7, but I was pretty excited about starting with a true clean slate. I just can't help but wonder what else it left behind.
I am trying to install with the downloadable executable from the student discount program, the files are located on an external hard drive.
I downloaded Windows 7 last night and started the install, it got up to the point where it checked for Vista SP1 and stopped. I had reinstalled Vista recentely and forgotten to install it.
I quit the Windows 7 install and installed SP1 for Vista. Now every time I try to launch the Windows 7 install I get the following error:
"The unattend answer file contains an invalid product key. Either remove the invalid key or provide a valid product key in the unattend answer file to proceed with Windows installation."
I tried deleting the temp file that was in the same directory as the install files for Windows 7 as well as deleting the expanded set up directory and letting it re unpack the files.
I have been trying to install JAVA on my PC, and when I go to Java.com and try to download the latest version, I get an error message - 'Downloaded File Is Corrupt'.The file is Java 7 Update 5.

My issue is that I need the install to PROMPT me for a computer name, THEN have it perform the Unattend Join to the Domain. I am hoping to only need the Specialize and OOBE passes, but if I need more fine - this is my only issue.
If I let it select a randam PC name, then it joins the domain fine, but if I take out the computer "Tags" which seem to be the only way to get it to prompt, it has already tried to join the domain unsuccessfully. Please advise.. All over the net people are having this problem.

Browsing works just fine but whenever I load a video or download a file of any size I get difficulties.After downloading Silverlight or Steam and attempting to install I get a message that the file is corrupt.Google downloader (trying to reinstall chrome) and windows update will both download just fine up a certain point then the download will abruptly stop, even though the internet is still working.This is an ongoing theme with movies as well. They will buffer to a point then the video will be unable to play past that point.I have tried going around the router and using a different browser both to no avail. I ran spybot and had to download updates from 2 different locations because 3 items would not download from the first server. Several problems were found but my problem was not fixxed.

In addition to that drive, I have a 1TB media drive and a 1TB drive that holds my user files as well as all my programs. I can't seem to figure out how to ensure that all the short cuts for the programs and data for the user file will run smoothly on the fresh install. I have found some others attached to Win XP but have to do with the installation of some software which prevents access to explorer.exe. When I boot in safe mode this issue does not appear...
