Windows 7 Zip File Date Modified
Oct 20, 2011
"date modified" field does not update when files are replaced in a zip folder while running Windows 7 64-bit.
Data files are stored in zip files and utilized daily. At the days end the files are replaced with the most current revision. The updated file displays the correct "date modified", however when the filed is transfered into the zip file, the "date modified" displayed within the zip file does not update.
I don't have this problem with Windows XP or 2000. Is there some hidden setting that is needed for Windows 7 to recognize file modification dates just as every version prior?
It becomes frustrating that Microsoft continues to add nice new fancy operating features, but yet continuously fails to ensure the basic functions are maintained.

In Windows 7, whenever I click on a shared folder, it immediately does something (thumbnail creation?) and changes the modified date. So if I select mulyiple folders, they all have their modified date changed to the same time. Is there a known way to stop this from happening? It's a little annoying right now.

It seems that Windows likes to modify my jpg files!! Modified date and filesize seems to change on its own, perhaps something to do with the thumbnail view in Explorer.

What type of ways are there to change a modified file date without a human being involved with the computer?I'm trying to prove that I didn't change a file on the computer. Could Windows 7, an application on the computer, and application in the cloud with access to the computer (ie Dropbox or QuickBooks, etc) or Norton Security Software change a Modifed date without me touching the computer?

Windows 7 64 bit SP1 - Clean Install. I have found an incredibly annoying problem. I have external USB drives on my laptop, both esata and USB 3. I store a lot of HD video clips that I take on them. It is very important that I set the sort order to Date Created (due to the naming convention on my camcorder). Before doing a clean install from Windows 7 64bit to Windows 7 SP1 64bit, if I changed the order in explorer it quickly changed and then remembered the sort order, so next time I went into the folder on my external drive the files were in the correct order.
Now, whenever I go into the folder it takes up to 5 minutes to sort the files (there are some 4000 files in the folder). If I go to other folder on my laptop, then back to that folder, it takes another 5 minutes to sort them again! At the moment I am tempted to go back to pre-SP1. I have taken the external drive to another laptop i have with SP1 on it, and it does the same thing. I can't wait around for windows to re-order my files whenever I go into that folder, especially as it takes such a long time.

I would [almost] swear that I used to be able to click on a file in Windows Explorer and then add or change it's details such as the dates. I may be "misremembering" but I think I could do it at the bottom of the Explorer screen or by rick-clicking, selecting properties and the Details tab.If it was ever true it is no longer so. I can't get any of the fields for a file, from Explorer or file properties/details, to open up for entry or modification. After looking at similar posts here, I went through the Take Ownership process just to make sure there were no security issues but that didn't make any difference.

I've got four sticky notes that I'm currently modifying. One of them, I deleted a large amount of text from it. When I turned my computer on today, the old version was there as well. I tried to delete it, but my computer is treating it like it's a part of the desktop background and not a note. Two of the other notes are doing the same thing. When I reopen the Sticky Notes gadget my newer versions open too, but on top of the others. I can't move the others, delete them, anything.
My laptop is less than a week old, with a 6GB RAM, 750GB hard drive, and 2.5GHz + Turbo processor, so I'm pretty sure it's not the problem. I just installed a new video editing software (Corel VideoStudio Pro X4)

when I turn on my computer after 6-8 plus hours of not using it, I get this message while the BIOS is booting but before Windows starts: Overclocking Failed! Please enter setup to re-configured your system. Press F1 to Run Setup.Press F2 to load default values and continue. Now I know how to simply fix this issue by resetting the BIOS and/or if necessary, temporary removing and replacing the jumper pin on the motherboard and/or if *really* necessary, temporary removal and replacement of the CMOS battery. For me, it works by simply resetting the BIOS.To let you know since this has been happening, I have increased my RAM to 8GB. I had to make some changes to my BIOS like slight voltages increases in DRAM and the motherboard's northbridge and the memory module timings modified. I saved these BIOS changes (as a BIOS profile) to stabilize my 8GB of RAM which seems to work great -- stability issues solved. What actually happens is that one the *very first* BIOS booting when powering up my computer, the BIOS does not boot and without the beep from the motherboard's POST BIOS test. My monitor is black while, yet the tower LED shows it is running. I can hear the fan in the tower running fine. I have to manually restart the computer from the reset button and then on the second BIOS boot, the BIOS loads fine, followed by this "Overclocking Failed!" issue just before Windows can load. After another computer reboot and my resetting of the BIOS, followed by yet another computer reboot, the BIOS and Windows operating system loads fine and I am on my way.
Now *this is a pain in the butt* each morning after the system has been off for awhile or when my computer has not been running for 6-8 hours!!! The computer SHOULD NOT have to go through this!!! This whole sequence of events (4 computer boots) in the last paragraph does not happen if the time duration since my computer was not running is short since I last used my computer -- the computer boots and runs completely fine.Any ideas so I can keep the modified BIOS profile so my computer runs stable and not have this whole sequence of events happen -- so BIOS can load without any issues? Some basic general stats of my system:
- Windows 7 Pro 64-Bit.
- Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550 -- Yorkfield 2.83 GHz 1333 MHz processor.
- ASUS P5Q desktop motherboard.
- 8 GB of Corsair XMS2 4x2 GB DDR2 RAM.
- XFX Radeon HD5670 Graphics Card.

Cleaning up the friend of a friend's completely virus infested, badly working computer.
Windows 7x64 HP Pavilion g6 Notebook PC
The Basics:While I was beginning to install and manually offline-update various anti-malware tools so that I could begin to determine what I needed to do to get this thing clean and properly operable, I noticed while looking at Programs and Features that many of the install dates for various software were dated in various months in 2013. My installations were 1 year, 2 days ahead of the current date. Windows Explorer shows this to be consistent throughout the files and folders installed.
Looking at the install dates for some of the HP proprietary software/bloatware, I can tell this behavior started some point after the computer was purchased and used (the bloatware installation date was one day after the warranty start date listed in the BIOS). I am presuming dates on files and folders created, modified, or accessed from the point of the initial occurrence of what caused these particular incorrect future timestamps are the only ones affected.
The clock and date were wrong by the exact amount forward as were the install dates for the files I installed, so, as expected, the files were taking their timestamp from the computer's time. I assume whenever the computer date and time were maladjusted is when the problem started. I fixed the time and date, but the files and folders did not adjust their timestamps, again as expected.
1. Are there any particular problems I am not considering which could be caused by the incorrect dates, other than some particular searching and arrangement issues, which in this case I think would be superficial? This type of date information is just descriptive metadata for files and folders, correct?
2. Is there any way to fix this? I cannot think of any, but maybe there is something I am missing, hashing it out in my mind. If the BIOS clock and the Windows date and time settings were separate and the date metadata were generated based on a timer referencing the BIOS clock, then I could see a way to repair this. But, at least on this notebook, a change in one is reflected in the other--I think this is how Windows OSes operate in general. Anyway, any ideas?
3. Finally, after I finish cleaning and repairing the notebook, is there any way to globally reset all of the date metadata on all files/folders to reflect the present? So long as having incorrect future timestamps does not affect operation, then this is superficial, but it is irrationally driving me crazy. If it were my computer, I could not stand it--barely can stand it as it is. I have found a program that lets you reset all of the dates of all files in a folder, or the dates of all folders visible when opening a directory or subdirectory, but not both simultaneously, and so of course not anything that would change the dates of all the files and folders nested within one another from root.

Just had a new computer made up using Windows 64bit OS. I installed the old disc drive from my failing old computer as a slave drive, which I was using XP on a 32bit system expecting it was going to be easy to retieve all my data files. What a mistake that is turning out to be !!! Does anyone out there know how I can do this ? The files where password protected is this causing the problem? I guess I have the option of taking the drive out and re-installing it in the old system and then try to download the data into something useable for the new system.

I have a asus N61 about 7months old. running windows 7.
For the last few months the Date keeps randomly changing, usually the actual time is correct, but the date keeps changing at random intervals, sometimes it wont happen for a few weeks, then it might happen every couple days. then nothing again for a week or 2. and usually it goes forwards about 4 or 5 days. sometimes back a few days.
don't post anything about CMOS, As this is a new laptop, so it shouldn't be the cmos battery, ALSO it doesn't happen every time i turn the laptop off, so i doubt a old cmos battery would work sometimes and not others.
