Windows 7 Too Fast?
Jan 2, 2010
Not sure how this has happened, but when Win 7 starts up - it is flashing, rapidly (th coloured logo) and then when it gets to the log in screen, the little hourglass(well, round thing) is spinning so fast, it is like it is on speed or something. When I go to type in the password to log in, each letter I type repeats to fill the entire screen log in box.I hanaged to get into the Win 7 after using the "hold Shift 8sec" thing for the keyboard, but win 7 after that is crazy. Any click I make is like 100 clicks, everything is running at hyper speed. I cannot access my CD rom and clicking on firefox or win explorer flashes rapidly and opens and closes quicker then I can keep up.I am running a dual boot with win xp (which I am using now), so it seems my keyboard, mouse and motherboard are alright.I tried a REPAIR with Win 7, and it said there was a START UP error that was fixed, but it is not and things are still running at hyper speed. This is after an update last night when turning off the computer

I dont really trust what they say because when I checked the review.. its not that good.. so finally i plan to ask from this forum instead, hoping to get answers..What are the best VCD burning program you guys ever used? I want the one that can accept all types of video and convert it on its own and burn it... Easy to use is a must...I have tried the latest Nero but its not good at converting Mp4 files... because when i burned them... the video moves so fast as if they are fast forwarded but the voice lagg behind... there goes my CD wasted...And i have tried Ashampoo as well but they did not recognize mp4 files, only mpeg... i have video converter but what i want is one program to do it all.. drag the video to the program and all i have to do is wait til its done..hoping to get your replies soon.. any software will do... i prefer the simplest and easy to use.. it can be free or paid.. but if paid make sure its worth it

I just finished a new build and I installed a 40GB SSD thinking it would be enough for just the Windows 7 OS and some drivers. Well, it so happens that the 40GB's rapidly decreased to roughly 2GB's of space... To be honest, I'm not sure how those 40 GB's were used up so fast. I have a couple of programs installed on it such as:
-AVG Anti Virus
-NVIDIA Drivers
-Motherboard Drivers
-Google Chrome
I'm not sure what can bee deleted but I want to delete some of the Windows Service Files such as Windows Mail and etc. but every time i go to delete the folders, it says can't delete because i need permission from TrustedInstaller? I don't know if it was a good idea to buy the 40GB SSD or if I should have gotten something like 80GB. I still have time to return it but I'm not sure if that is the right thing to do because this problem can be fixed or if I should just go bigger.

My desk top used to be what I considered very fast and now same computer alot slower. If it is comming out of an idle mode it will take at least 3 minutes to load a web page. The hard drive is working very hard, it is always running and the light blinking sometimes when not even being used. After being used for 5 min. or so the web pages do load faster but not as fast as they should.Sometimes I get a I.E. not responding message. It's almost like the hard drive is checking something or doing some other work at the same time.I have to the best of my ability cleared out old files and cleaned up what I can. The hard drive is maybe 25% full.
Specs: Dell studio XPS
Intell 2.67 GHZ
Ram 3. GB
64 Bit
I am running Kaspersky anti viris and have run the scan more than once, it says no problems.

I have dell desktop inspiron 580, i5, 4 gb ram and 500 gb hard disk and my permanent problem is, inspite of changing hard disk, mother board and ram, the computer freezes at ms logo level and does not ever go further. Then the ceremonial tapping of F8 and hitting 'start up windows normally' 4/5 times (sometimes more) after a bit of suspense, suddenly it gets into the welcome sign and goes on. How long can I continue like this? My manufacturers are most willing to change the parts under my present warranty, but I do not think that is the permanent solution for this. I have run the 'win 7 recovery media' disk given to me many times to go back to the factory set up, then installed the McAfee, Skype and Adobe flash player which are required for my use as usual that is all.
Then as usual the reminder for dell, java and McAfee updates come up, I click it to give permission that is all. Even after the McAfee download (it is asking for restarting the computer) it never restarts for my click and freezes at the ms logo level, as if it loves the logo very much and is attached to it permanently. Again start tapping F8 and by chance I get the booting just in case. All partitions in my computer are totally empty and in C only it is showing 93.1 gb free out of 117 gb. I have only the preloaded factory set up only. I am even afraid of downloading movie downloading software of Bittorrent although widely recommended.
I am 70 year old, non technical, using my computer for movies online streaming (no downloading), email and skype viewing with my contacts only. I always delete address bars before shutting down, never click sites asking for mail id or pass words.
I read a lot of answers in the website (all subsequent letters/answers are contradicting the prior ones) and nothing seems to effective (some I have tried). The start up booting I think is a universal problem and win 7 64 bit has no breakthrough method for this.If I use the full hard disk like a software professional, would it be different or worse!

After installing a skin pack from called simplfy,I used a restore point that i created before installing the skin pack ill call it restore point A. i installed the skin pack again and then used system restore to restore to the same point (restore point A) without undoing the last restore which was restore point A. Earlier this morning I tried to save a text file and it said disk space was low.I know that wasn't correct a text file shouldnt exceed 14.75gb.So I checked the disk and it said 0 kb free. Restarted Computer opened defraggler (I didnt do anything with defragler I only used it to look at the graph) and ccleaner (I ran the file cleaner and the registry cleaner which cleared only 299mb) and I noticed that the space was returning back to normal at about 150 mb/sec. After about 6 hours the problem returned and now I'm posting this.

So what I do now is:1) Delete "DosDevicesC:" in "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMMountedDevices" and some other DosDevices that will have an other letter booting the clone.2) Using the free MiniTool from partitionwizard.com, I delete a partition I don't need anymore and clone the one running in it. PS: PartitionWizard will reboot and clone it unless I copy an other not active partition (previous clone) which can not have been booted yet so "DosDevicesC:" is still absent.3) Now I need to run "bcdboot f:windows /s f:" in a cmd/dos-window or batchfilewhere "f:" is the new created clone. Or use EasyBCD.4) Then I also use the free version of boot-us.com to be able to hide and protect the other not needed clones or original partition when booting and using a clone.
So I don't really need the BCD bootmanager from Windows 7. It gives only more things do to to prepare the cloned partition. I even don't need the "DosDevicesC:" in the registry, because I need to take it out before cloning. Is there a way to skip or delete the BCD and boot into the only not hidden active partition called C:, which will have any other serialnumber? Is there a way to keep "DosDevicesC:" out of the registry or change it after making a clone-copy. Maybe be able to change the registry from a non active partition with a simple batchfile. Or maybe even have "DosDevicesC:" be deleted everytime when windows is booting before it is automaticly been rewritten into the registry with the active partition?

I've got about 8 different Windows 7 boxes (some laptops, a few desktops, and some media machines). The frequency of "inexplicable weird things" and other aggravations has been increasing over time, and just the last few months I've found myself having done at least 4 complete re-installs, and despite this - all 8 of my boxes are suffering various different problems.I am basically loosing WEEKS of work time dealing with pointless fixes to what I thought would have, by now, been a stable operating system. Some (and by no means is this a comprehensive list) of the recent issues I'm facing are BSOD problems on 2 different boxes ("Driver state power failure"), various (but not all) internet programs failling to connect from one laptop, *extreme* slowness one another latop and two media center desktops, an inexplicably "corrupted" registry occurence, and other weird but similar things.
Most of my machines are new brand-name (HP mostly) boxes, with a couple of other ones thrown in. They all work fine using "live boot" linux distro DVDs, and I have no problems with my one other box that's not Windows (a Mac).Do I just happen to have the worlds worst Windows 7 luck, or is this a growing problem with Windows 7 worldwide in general???

Playing Spider Solitaire recently I found that the game had speeded up. The deals were displayed instantaneously, which makes it easy to deal twice without realising it. The only change I remember is that I had installed Java VM for a game that required it. That has now been uninstalled, although the Windows Games problem (it is the same with the other card games) remains.

I'd like to backup my entire System or at least most of it onto a seperate Computer/NAS but as the size of what has to be transferred has gotten quite big in the meantime ( 4TB+ ) so I'm running into a problem concerning the time it takes to do this.Let me get some facts about me:Right now I consider myself a Noob when it comes to networking 2 PC's together mainly because I'm not working with it that much. Other than that I can solve pretty much any other computer problem in the blink of an eye. What I'm looking for:
- A system that serves as a backup for my entire current system which has about 4TB of storage housing - MANDATORY!
- A system that does the Copy/Move Process of the respective files fast - MANDATORY! Waiting 11.65h to transfer 1 TB of files at~25 MB/Sec over a GBit Network is an absolute no go. If possible I'm looking for something that rivals the 150-200 MB/Sec from my internal RAID-0.
- A system that serves as a MediaServer for my Home Cinema System either directly connected to the TV or a PS3 - OPTIONAL What I've tried so far: I recently bought myself a QNAP TS-412 which transfers the files at speeds of ~25 MB/Sec not giving me a happy face. Blame me for trusting the clerk at the shop where I bought it before reading through the specs. What I could do: Build a second PC from former HighEnd bits and pieces acting as a homemade NAS. Question is will this give me the results that I demand or will it lack the same way as the NAS?

I'm actually running 7 RC(7100) on my kids ECS 661FX-M7 mobo, and decided to run the 7 Advisor.. it came back with "Go to the mfgr website to d/l the latest driver.." for the SiS 900-based PCI-Fast Ethernet, and also should update the RealTek AC'97 audio driver. As I already have 7 running ok on this, what should I do about these recommendations?

Does anyone know if there is a Vista / Windows 7 compatible driver for this device?
Windows 7 Action center tells me this. If I use the Windows XP driver that came with it, it causes a blue screen of death if I insert my wireless lan card (I assume its having an IRQ conflict or something like that with the Wireless card) - If I uninstall the XP driver the machine doesn't blue screen.

i was at a store yesterday, and an hp computer (windows 7 home premium, no sp1) was showing the bubbles screensaver, but they were moving across the screen extremely fast. here's a Internet video that i found that's showing exactly what it was doing: how to make it run like this on purpose? i figured that, if you leave it like this for a long time, it'll eventually go insane. i left my computer on overnight (12 hours) to see if i would wake up to the bubbles going crazy, but they weren't doing anything different than they normally do.i've already seen the registry tweaks page, but there's nothing that adjusts the speed, so i'm assuming that it's just a random bug. supposedly it happens in both vista (including sp1) and windows 7 (not sure if it does this on sp1).

When attempting to write to any USB drive I have connected (including a 1GB USB key and a 1TB Eagle Consus S-ATA Raid0) I initially see the transfer going very quickly as Windows 7 caches the transfer. The speed initially goes to 60MB/s and then the bar stops moving. If I wait, the transfer never completes with a 1GB test file.
I cannot cancel the transfer, since it says Cancelling but never completes. Only a reboot or disconnecting my drive stops the transfer process. While attempting to transfer, any attempt to read from the drive stalls as well.
Read speed is normal. I can access files on the drive, and copy from the USB -> Windows 7 at full speed.
Here are the things I have done to fix the problem:
1) Set the drive to Performance Mode to enable write caching.
2) Uninstalled and re-installed the USB Root Controller and Intel USB Controller devices.
3) Upgraded to the latest Intel Device Drivers.
4) Ensured that my USB ports are 2.0, and that I am connected to the rear powered USB outlets.
5) Installed the Windows 7 hotfix intended for NVIDIA chipsets with 4GB RAM (does not apply to me, but tried anyways).
6) Tried formatting in 16K block sizes instead of 4K or 8K.
When I connect either USB device to my Macbook Pro, with NTFS drivers installed, my read and write speed are normal. For that reason, I know that the problem is not with my USB drives.
Tonite I will try an Ubuntu live CD to see if I can get full speed write with the exact same hardware that Windows 7 is using, to rule out that this is somehow a hardware issue.
