In Win7, if I click on Shutdown it shuts down (duh!) without prompting for confirmation. I like the confirmation in XP, it keeps me from making stupid mistakes. Well, some of them, anyway.To make things worse, logout and switch user are on a little tab off of Shutdown, so sometimes I hit Shutdown by mistake.Can this be configured to prompt for confirmation?

At the request of my aunt, I clicked the option to close the firefox program. I restarted firefox and the confirmation page did not reappear. The tab is not in my browsing history either. Is there anyway I can retrieve the information from my computer files?I have tried looking at the browser history. It was the only page not showing up. I have tried looking at the firefox cache but it only showed the last two hours of activity. I have tried looking in the temp files but all of the ones I have went to in the computer are from days ago. I cannot find a folder that says internet temporary files.

Whenever I try to download a file through ANY browser, there is no "confirmation box" (to be more specific, the popup box that shows asking what to do with the file before you begin to download it). The confirmation box only shows up once the file has fully downloaded. This is kinda frustrating as I'd like to see details whilst downloading files. I have tried Chrome, Firefox, Opera and even IE, all of these yield the same results. I've tried disabling Microsoft Security Essentials to see if that was interfering with downloading, but that was to no avail.

8GB of RAM
Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit.
When I try to delete a file, either by choosing the "delete" option on the context menu or by pressing the "delete" key with the file selected, it take between something like 20 to 60 seconds to show me the usual confirmation window (the one with "Are you sure you want to delete file XXX.X?"). It's quite annoying, however it seems that that is the only problem. When the confirmation windows does come up the file can be deleted OK and I can drag and drop files to the recycling bin without any problems.

I am attaching the DMP file of the last one. I remember going to PERFORMANCE INFO & TOOLS > ADVANCED and it saying that a video drive may be to blame. View 1 Replies View RelatedWhen I attempt to shut the computer down (Windows 7 Ultimate x64) it hangs at the Shutting Down screen... for hours... never actually shuts down. After 20-30 seconds there is no disk activity, so I just power it off or reset it and it's fine. Because of this method I worry about losing one of my disks, having already lost my backup storage disk as a result of this issue. In troubleshooting I have done the following: *Logged all the way out of all profiles and then with no one logged in clicked on shutdown, but I have the same issue, so I am thinking that it is a SYSTEM process that is causing the hang up. *Briefly checked Event Viewer and didn't notice anything. *There was a Microsoft FixIt that I applied that was related to this, but it did not fix the issue (can't remember the KB article number). So, I was hoping that someone could give me some advice on a good program or batch file to run that will do a good job at logging events during the shutdown process. Obviously Windows itself does this, but I was thinking more along the lines of logging specific Services as they are stopped.

Now it shuts off while watching a movie or even chatting on facebook and when i try to start it, it just shuts off on me during the windows 7 logo loading again. it gives me 2 options to boot from: normal, and repair mode. if i go normal it just shuts down. if i repair it not always but sometimes fixes the problem for an hour or 2. but sometimes it just shuts off again.I play this game of cat and mouse for about 4-5 tries and get it to load. it's like an old car. forgot to mention i also went from windows vista 32bit to windows 7 64bit and problem is still here my computer uses 4GB ram for hardware reserve which i don't mind. i tried to reset the bios from a backup and it still keeps screwing with me.

My monitor goes into DVI power saving mode (like when the computer sleeps), keyboard / mouse shut off, my external soundcard is un-synced, but the fans are all running. This issue is sporatic. Sometimes the PC shuts down completely, other times it does as described above. This issue started ocurring AFTER I installed a Crucail M4 SSD with a clean Windows 7 install. No other hardware changes.
Research lead me to changing the IEEE Power Managment to "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power." This solution did not work for me.

The PC happens to be shutting down on its own and worse thing that frightens me is that it does not switch back on for at least the next 30 mins or so .. something like a cooling period.. I'm pretty sure that it may not be a heating issue because this shutting down does not necessarily happen when playing graphic intensive games.. happens sometimes when I leave the PC unattended or when there is just some mp3 playing on it.. hard for me to diagnose the root cause. The event viewer in control panel (which is something amazing in win 7 for troubleshooters !) seems to be capturing too many errors / warning / critical events. These shut downs happen to be critical events.

most of the time I can sleep my computer and wake it up normally. Sometimes, though, when I come back it is actually shut down. When I restart, Windows 7 informs me that it has recovered from a serious error.A few days ago I watched this happen. I had slept my computer, and through no prompting of my own it started to wake up. The screen blinked on, and just as fast it went away. The computer shut itself down in a not-very-normal fashion.I did a bit of research here, but didn't find anything helpful. I did see how to attach log files and such, though, so here they are.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm doing a clean install of win 7 64 bit off of an official cd. Part of the install goes well. It gets to 100%, reboots, goes to a screen that says it's loading settings. Then it gets to the completing installation phase and always at the same time, it shuts down. I'll hear the CD stop in my computer, then five seconds later, the computer just shuts off and I'll hear a faint beep. There's no warning message on the screen first. If I turn it on again, Windows will give the error that it restarted during install and I'll have to start over.
View 9 Replies View Related have my bootable copy of windows 7 Home Premium on a disk and I am attempting a clean install since I got a nasty virus which corrupted my previous copy of windows vista ultimate :/
I start the computer and choose to boot from the disk and it takes a while but eventually it comes up with the setup screen. I choose my language and all that and make sure to format the hdd before i start the install. The install starts fine and ventually the computer restarts. Upon reloading the screen says something about registry files and then it goes back to the setup screen showing that has almost completed installation and then it restarts again.
The difference this time is that when the computer comes back on it goes the "windows wasn't shutdown correctly" and asks if i want to start in safe mode or just normally. If i coose safe mode it loads but says "windows cannot complete installation in safe mode" and if i choose smart normally it just keeps restarting and then randomly shuts its self down. I dont have anyother hardware attached other than the screen, keyboard and mouse!

I am having a problem with my computer to where I can't load windows without my computer unexpectedly shutting down. I just got a new video card and did not load drivers for it. I just plugged it right in. I am thinking this might be the cause. I tried booting using my other video card and it still did not work though and those are the correct drivers that I had before. I have tried another power supply, ran a memtest, reapplied thermal paste and reseated my cooler. I have also tested a different hard drive and still the same thing. I do not have integrated graphics on my mobo so I cannot boot from my motherboard for a display. The green light for my motherboard is still on so I'm thinking that's not the problem.
