View 1 RepliesFor the past month or so, my laptop has been randomly shutting down with no warning whatsoever. It doesn't even restart, it just completely turns off. I can be doing anything and it will happen.
At first I thought it was overheating but then I installed SpeedFan and it's still doing it (and I can tell from feeling under the computer that it's no longer overheating).
I've run virus scan after virus scan (Malwarebyetes and Microsoft Security Essentials) but it's not finding anything wrong with my computer.
For some reason my Laptop shuts off randomly. I have no BSOD. Its like I held down the power button. Is there a setting that make your computer shut off after an amount of time or could it be a...

View 4 Replies View RelatedI am having a big issue with my computer. I originally ran windows xp professional until i upgraded to adobe cs5 and needed to switch to windows 7.now that i have windows 7 my programs stop working constantly. if i'm working in photoshop on a large photo the screen will go blank and a bubble will pop-up saying "driver stopped working but has started working again" and a lot of times photoshop, illustrator, and FL Studio will stop working and need to be shut down and started again. i've noticed sometimes when the computer is on overnight i'll wake up and it will be off. when i turn on the computer it will say that it didn't shut down properly. i was in the process of doing batch photo edits and it shut down on me right in the middle so i've got to figure out the problem. since i use this computer for freelance graphic design and photography. here are my specs.
View 4 Replies View RelatedWhen the PC is on it will depending on how long its been on will randomy just shut off. When it shuts off, it "sometimes" reboots but most often it "tries" to reboot but fails and then stays off. After this failed try to reboot if I press the power button on the case and mobo, nothing. Now if I turn OFF the PSU leave it for a few minutes and come back turn the PSU switch on and press the power button the system comes to life for a second or two then dies and will no respond to the power buttons until I turn off the PSU again.I have gotten it up and running from this state by leaving it off and unplugged for a couple of hours. When I say the PC comes to life for a second or two, I mean the case fans. If I get it booted up the BIOS is reset to default for some reason. Also if it makes it to windows, the notification area icons also gets reset... very very odd.I have a short video of the problem, sorry for the darkness, I finally decided to video it and it was 11pm.PSU dying or Mobo. I dont have extra's so I cant test them.Forgot to mention, ive checked for heat problems but none of my temps are high, they are all normal and its a Antec 1200 with tons of air movement.Event Viewer shows nothing expect for unexpected shutdown. My event viewer is clean from any errors also. I do not get any BSOD and this is on a fresh Windows 7 install from late Jan.

View 2 Replies View RelatedNot sure why its doing this. Just installed a clean version of windows 7 from vistaLeft it on all night last night cause was dling something to wake up with my computer off. Then later today had it on, has been working fine and then went out to eat and it was off again. Does it shut off after being idle ? is that a new feature or is something wrong?
View 9 Replies View RelatedThe PC happens to be shutting down on its own and worse thing that frightens me is that it does not switch back on for at least the next 30 mins or so .. something like a cooling period.. I'm pretty sure that it may not be a heating issue because this shutting down does not necessarily happen when playing graphic intensive games.. happens sometimes when I leave the PC unattended or when there is just some mp3 playing on it.. hard for me to diagnose the root cause. The event viewer in control panel (which is something amazing in win 7 for troubleshooters !) seems to be capturing too many errors / warning / critical events. These shut downs happen to be critical events.
The log from the most recent shutdown last night is as below.

Running Win7 64 bit, built this computer back in December, has worked flawlessly until now. Last few days - operates fine for an hour or so, then freezes, goes black, crashes and reboots itself, only to stop at the loading OS screen due to 'Boot Disk Failure' Happens regardless of what I am doing, or even if idle. Have updated windows, ran virus and malware scans.
GIGABYTE GA-Z68XP-UD4 LGA 1155 (it was slightly bent on the end with the USB connectors and headphone jacks, but installed fine)

Intel Core i5-2500K Sandy Bridge 3.3GHz

All Critical errors are event 41, Kernal Power - but I'm sure thats from me hardbooting on the disk failure.
I just went to Windows 7 on my laptop, got the 'quick-launch' working but when I click on one of the icons that icon disapears. If I start up a browser lets say, and I need to open another browser window I can't use the quick-launch cuz that icon disappears as soon as I opened the first window.Same with all of them, including 'windows explorer', one window and the icon disappears, is there a way to get them to stay?
View 14 Replies View Relatedver the past year I could say I have been been getting a lot of random shutdowns with my Dell Studio 15. This can happen when I'm browsing the web, trying to play a game, or I leave my laptop on for a extended period of time (a day or more). I realize a year is along time to wait to solve a problem, but better now than never. My laptop is a Dell Studio 1555 running Windows 7 x64. Sometimes when I turn my laptop back on I can hear the fan running rapidly, yet when it shuts off I do not hear it. I believe these are due to heat and I just need to clean out my laptop. If and when I leave it on I come back to find it has restarted and most of the time there is a not a Blue Screen notice. Usually in this situation I just left my laptop on or I am streaming media. Sometimes it will Blue Screen but most recently, within the past few months it has not. Today it actually has produced one. Unfortunately I believe most logs are deleted due to my use of CCleaner and TuneUp Utilities, but I do have Critical events in my Error Logs which date back to 2 months ago.
View 9 Replies View Relatedmost of the time I can sleep my computer and wake it up normally. Sometimes, though, when I come back it is actually shut down. When I restart, Windows 7 informs me that it has recovered from a serious error.A few days ago I watched this happen. I had slept my computer, and through no prompting of my own it started to wake up. The screen blinked on, and just as fast it went away. The computer shut itself down in a not-very-normal fashion.I did a bit of research here, but didn't find anything helpful. I did see how to attach log files and such, though, so here they are.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm doing a clean install of win 7 64 bit off of an official cd. Part of the install goes well. It gets to 100%, reboots, goes to a screen that says it's loading settings. Then it gets to the completing installation phase and always at the same time, it shuts down. I'll hear the CD stop in my computer, then five seconds later, the computer just shuts off and I'll hear a faint beep. There's no warning message on the screen first. If I turn it on again, Windows will give the error that it restarted during install and I'll have to start over.
View 9 Replies View Related have my bootable copy of windows 7 Home Premium on a disk and I am attempting a clean install since I got a nasty virus which corrupted my previous copy of windows vista ultimate :/
I start the computer and choose to boot from the disk and it takes a while but eventually it comes up with the setup screen. I choose my language and all that and make sure to format the hdd before i start the install. The install starts fine and ventually the computer restarts. Upon reloading the screen says something about registry files and then it goes back to the setup screen showing that has almost completed installation and then it restarts again.
The difference this time is that when the computer comes back on it goes the "windows wasn't shutdown correctly" and asks if i want to start in safe mode or just normally. If i coose safe mode it loads but says "windows cannot complete installation in safe mode" and if i choose smart normally it just keeps restarting and then randomly shuts its self down. I dont have anyother hardware attached other than the screen, keyboard and mouse!

I am having a problem with my computer to where I can't load windows without my computer unexpectedly shutting down. I just got a new video card and did not load drivers for it. I just plugged it right in. I am thinking this might be the cause. I tried booting using my other video card and it still did not work though and those are the correct drivers that I had before. I have tried another power supply, ran a memtest, reapplied thermal paste and reseated my cooler. I have also tested a different hard drive and still the same thing. I do not have integrated graphics on my mobo so I cannot boot from my motherboard for a display. The green light for my motherboard is still on so I'm thinking that's not the problem.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI use Windows 7 Ultimate, 64 bit, with Intel Core2 Quad Q6600 and 8192 Ram on an ASUSP5w DH Deluxe MB. No overclocking. Yesterday, I logged on to MS to check out Win8 and allowed it to check my system for upgrade. I received report that some programs were not compatible and that "NX" was not activated. I decided to check some of the incompatible programs out and read up on "NX".
So I closed all my programs out and rebooted and checked out my setup. I found no reference to "NX", but I did enable the MB to manage my fans, which I have not done in the past. Then, F10 and automatic reboot. It went through the rebooting, recognized the ram, but when it came to the point that Win 7 would begin, it powers down shuts off, with out the Windows screen opening.
I went back into setup and disable the the option about the MB operating the fans, rebooted and it shuts down again. I start the power and boot up and checked the setup and all looks like it usually does. I tried f8 at difference times, but the computer will not continue past the last post of recognizing all my ram.
I went inside the computer and checked the connections on the boot drive and just about everything else. The fans start up, power light is on on the board. The temperatures, as measured in the set up are well within normal range. None of the components seem hot. I let it set overnight and it still shuts off after the screen about the RAM and before starting Win 7.
I have a formatted hd with the win 7 disk in the cdrom. When I turn computer on, the usual comes up on screen and I press a keyboard key to load win 7. All good to this point. It barely starts reading the cdrom disk (and you can see the files being loaded onscreen), then the computer shuts down.

I tried searching my power options and making sure everything was set properly, etc. I even re-flashed my bios. I didn't make any major changes like add new hardware / software, only some windows updates that I've now rolled-back. It looks like one or two people just had to adjust a power setting, but that does not seem to be my issue. I don't want to re-install windows.

I have had this computer for just over a year and it has ran like a top. I was surfing the internet last night when it just shuts off (no slow down no blue screen) and boots into startup repair. It would not repair, just sat in there forever and would not boot into safe mode or anything. It just kept booting into startup repair for hours.
So I hit esc when it booted to startup repair, I go to the dell backup and restore, save my work documents and pics and let it boot to factory fresh windows install from the dell created partition. Windows reinstalls and loads fine, boots in and begins to update successfully and then reboots back into repair. This happens everytime it reboots. After sometime it will boot into windows fine. If I restart I am back into startup repair for half an hour or more.
today i've cleaned my laptop's fan and reinstalled my windows since then my computer starts shutting down by itself without any kind of error apearing on the screen, i had a look in event viewer and founds this: 'The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly.' so i checked the details and it showed this: on friendly view :

Having problems with the Sleep, Restart, and Shut Down functions after struggling trying to get a defective external disk drive enclosure to work. When I use any of the above functions the computer shuts down. I cannot wake by moving or left clicking the mouse as before. The computer shuts down and will not come on with the front panel power button. Ditto for Restart. I have to pull the power cord for about a minute before reconnecting. Then I press the power button and the computer commences to boot and windows initializes very slowlyI restored the computer to an earlier time before using the defective external drive enclosure, but I still have the same powerup/boot symptoms. stonooka has chosen the best answer to his/her question.Click here to view the answer that was selected.

Both units as soon as you power them on, they go thru the boot up process, but anywhere from 2 to 10 seconds later, the unit turns off. I've tried swapping the ram and the power supply. I have disconnected the keyboard, monitor, mouse and speakers with no change. Both of them developed this problem over night. They do not stay booted up long enough to get into the setup or to even try booting from a DVD.

My computer repeatedly shuts down on me. Yesterday it must have shut down on me 20 times. My virus and malware scans come out clean. It usually goes to a menu asking me if I want to start the computer normally or in safe mode. However sometimes, I have to run start-up repair and sometimes I get a blue screen. The problem is the blue screen doesn't stay up long enough for me to write down error codes or anything else it says.
I have HP windows 7 , dsl , laptop and I will be anywhere and it disconnects with internet then about anywhere from 2 - 8 secs it comes back on.
