I just went to Windows 7 on my laptop, got the 'quick-launch' working but when I click on one of the icons that icon disapears. If I start up a browser lets say, and I need to open another browser window I can't use the quick-launch cuz that icon disappears as soon as I opened the first window.Same with all of them, including 'windows explorer', one window and the icon disappears, is there a way to get them to stay?
View 14 RepliesWhen the PC is on it will depending on how long its been on will randomy just shut off. When it shuts off, it "sometimes" reboots but most often it "tries" to reboot but fails and then stays off. After this failed try to reboot if I press the power button on the case and mobo, nothing.Now if I turn OFF the PSU leave it for a few minutes and come back turn the PSU switch on and press the power button the system comes to life for a second or two then dies and will no respond to the power buttons until I turn off the PSU again.I have gotten it up and running from this state by leaving it off and unplugged for a couple of hours. When I say the PC comes to life for a second or two, I mean the case fans. If I get it booted up the BIOS is reset to default for some reason. Also if it makes it to windows, the notification area icons also gets reset... very very odd.I have a short video of the problem, sorry for the darkness, I finally decided to video it and it was 11pm.PSU dying or Mobo. I dont have extra's so I cant test them.Forgot to mention, ive checked for heat problems but none of my temps are high, they are all normal and its a Antec 1200 with tons of air movement.Event Viewer shows nothing expect for unexpected shutdown. My event viewer is clean from any errors also. I do not get any BSOD and this is on a fresh Windows 7 install from late Jan.

At first I thought it was overheating but then I installed SpeedFan and it's still doing it (and I can tell from feeling under the computer that it's no longer overheating).
I've run virus scan after virus scan (Malwarebyetes and Microsoft Security Essentials) but it's not finding anything wrong with my computer.
ver the past year I could say I have been been getting a lot of random shutdowns with my Dell Studio 15. This can happen when I'm browsing the web, trying to play a game, or I leave my laptop on for a extended period of time (a day or more). I realize a year is along time to wait to solve a problem, but better now than never. My laptop is a Dell Studio 1555 running Windows 7 x64. Sometimes when I turn my laptop back on I can hear the fan running rapidly, yet when it shuts off I do not hear it. I believe these are due to heat and I just need to clean out my laptop. If and when I leave it on I come back to find it has restarted and most of the time there is a not a Blue Screen notice. Usually in this situation I just left my laptop on or I am streaming media. Sometimes it will Blue Screen but most recently, within the past few months it has not. Today it actually has produced one. Unfortunately I believe most logs are deleted due to my use of CCleaner and TuneUp Utilities, but I do have Critical events in my Error Logs which date back to 2 months ago.

The PC happens to be shutting down on its own and worse thing that frightens me is that it does not switch back on for at least the next 30 mins or so .. something like a cooling period.. I'm pretty sure that it may not be a heating issue because this shutting down does not necessarily happen when playing graphic intensive games.. happens sometimes when I leave the PC unattended or when there is just some mp3 playing on it.. hard for me to diagnose the root cause. The event viewer in control panel (which is something amazing in win 7 for troubleshooters !) seems to be capturing too many errors / warning / critical events. These shut downs happen to be critical events.

Once I started playing, my computer randomly shuts off. Just completely turns off, no warning, nothing.I'm pretty sure that my computer is not overheating because I play StarCraft II on this computer and do not have any overheating issues. This Tony Hawk game is a much lighter game, taking much fewer resources.I have an HP HDX18 laptop computer. url...I probably need to provide some other stuff to aid in finding the problem, but I do not know what else to provide.

I originally ran windows xp professional until i upgraded to adobe cs5 and needed to switch to windows 7.now that i have windows 7 my programs stop working constantly. if i'm working in photoshop on a large photo the screen will go blank and a bubble will pop-up saying "driver stopped working but has started working again" and a lot of times photoshop, illustrator, and FL Studio will stop working and need to be shut down and started again. i've noticed sometimes when the computer is on overnight i'll wake up and it will be off. when i turn on the computer it will say that it didn't shut down properly. i was in the process of doing batch photo edits and it shut down on me right in the middle so i've got to figure out the problem. since i use this computer for freelance graphic design and photography. here are my specs.

Last few days - operates fine for an hour or so, then freezes, goes black, crashes and reboots itself, only to stop at the loading OS screen due to 'Boot Disk Failure' Happens regardless of what I am doing, or even if idle. Hibernate file is enabled, PC appears to go to sleep and then hibernate correctly at timeouts, but shuts down instead.
When restarted it does not Resume Windows but starts up to the "Windows didn't shut down correctly" screen which offers "Start Windows Normallly" or one of the Safe Modes. Same thing happens when Hibernate is triggered from Start Menu, or by Shutting the Lid.
Occasionally, in the past when the the PC would sleep it would not wake up when I pressed the keyboard and had to be restarted instead. Over the last week the problem has occured more frequently. Today it happened every time the PC went to sleep and was not woken up within a few minutes. I have never made any adjustments to my power setting in Windows or the BIOS. Both units as soon as you power them on, they go thru the boot up process, but anywhere from 2 to 10 seconds later, the unit turns off. I've tried swapping the ram and the power supply. I have disconnected the keyboard, monitor, mouse and speakers with no change. Both of them developed this problem over night. They do not stay booted up long enough to get into the setup or to even try booting from a DVD.

We recently located our home computers, modem and router to another room. I reconnected everything with the same cables, and it came on fine. After an automatic Systems Update it did not come back on, and now when I try to boot from either the Boot Manager or Advanced Boot Screen, at every option it loads files and then, before or during the time when the lights and logo start to appear, it turns off. I do not have the recovery disk, and in any case my DVD-RW has not worked for about a year.
I have a new DVD-RW which I am going to install, but I am uncertain if that will solve the problem. Is there any way to get to a Command prompt without Windows booting up, and at least access the hard drive that way, or am I up the well known tributary with inadequate means of propulsion?
When ever i play Diablo or any other game it runs smoothly for about 30 minutes and the monitor shuts off and theres no sound but the computer is still on. I bought my computer a few months ago so i dont know what the problem is. Here are my specs.
