HP dv5-1235dx Entertainment notebook, Intel Core 2 Duo, 4gb RAM, 32 bit.
Hibernate file is enabled, PC appears to go to sleep and then hibernate correctly at timeouts, but shuts down instead.
When restarted it does not Resume Windows but starts up to the "Windows didn't shut down correctly" screen which offers "Start Windows Normallly" or one of the Safe Modes. Same thing happens when Hibernate is triggered from Start Menu, or by Shutting the Lid.
I newly reformatted my laptop and reinstalled with a new licensed Windows 7, replacing Windows XP. When I close the lid, OR, put the laptop into sleep mode, it does go into sleep mode, but - pushing keys or moving the mouse will not bring it out. I have to hold the power button in for 10 seconds to shut the laptop down (hard power down). So basically, I can never put the laptop into sleep mode.
I've always wondered if background tasks continue to run while the PC is in sleep mode or hibernation. Are there actions that I can take to wake it up? What happens if I'm running a scan and the PC goes into hibernation or sleep mode?
I recently formatted my computer (yesterday, to be precise) but I have some kind of a problem I had before. My system starts the hibernation process after 30 minutes of inactivity and sometimes, like, if it's 4 or 5 hours (during night) without being activated, it simply doesn't wake up. It means my monitor display is black and cannot load. I have to reset it.I'm using Windows 7 64 bits and my system specs are displayed on my profile.
I have a very annoying problem. If the CPU utilization is high on my laptop, windows 7 goes into hibernate. This happens, for example, if I run a virus program or run some applications that use too much CPU.Right after it wakes up from hibernate, again it goes into hibernate. This repeats again and again.
Recently (for the last few months), I've been having a problem where if I sleep/hibernate my laptop (Dell XPS 15), whether that be by shutting the lid or manually, upon waking I receive a BSOD after 5-20 minutes. The message presented is a DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FALIURE. Interestingly, until the crash my USB ports also stop working completely.I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium x64, which is NOT the original install, but a new one made from a retail CD. I installed this straight after getting the laptop (July 2010), and had no problems until mid-March.
20secs after logging in, my pc shuts down by itself..I have to unplug it before it will turn on again but eventually if will turn off again after few secs... is it a PSU or Motherboard failure? I check my Mobo and PSU and there was no blown capacitors...but I can smell a a burnt capacitor.
I just went to Windows 7 on my laptop, got the 'quick-launch' working but when I click on one of the icons that icon disapears. If I start up a browser lets say, and I need to open another browser window I can't use the quick-launch cuz that icon disappears as soon as I opened the first window.Same with all of them, including 'windows explorer', one window and the icon disappears, is there a way to get them to stay?
all of a sudden my PC running 7 Pro 64 has started shutting down rather than sleeping. i have made no changes in terms of updates/software/drivers, so i cant think of any reason this should happen. it happens when left long enough for the sleep timer to cut in, or by going to sleep through the start menu.
today i've cleaned my laptop's fan and reinstalled my windows since then my computer starts shutting down by itself without any kind of error apearing on the screen, i had a look in event viewer and founds this: 'The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly.' so i checked the details and it showed this: on friendly view :
System - Provider [ Name] Microsoft-Windows-Kernel-Power
Today I was playing Football Manager 2012 and suddenly my monitor goes black, but pc is still working and every few second makes short kind of buzzing. I cant turn it off with button, only if I change the switch from back of the case.
I have installed a clean Win 7 64 bit to my PC (I'm using it for years already). There is no problem for the beginning. When I installed an AMD driver after restart, i cant go after win 7 boot logo. When I go safe mod and uninstall driver, its all normal again.I tried several versions (3 or 4 i guess). Nothing changed. By the way there is no BSOD, its just a power downSpecs Win 7 64 bit Gigabyte GA-P35 DS3L Intel E6550 2.33 Ghz Sapphire HD 5830 Extreme2x1 gb Kingston 800Mhz Seagate 320 GBFSB Bluestorm II 500W
Occasionally, in the past when the the PC would sleep it would not wake up when I pressed the keyboard and had to be restarted instead. Over the last week the problem has occured more frequently. Today it happened every time the PC went to sleep and was not woken up within a few minutes. I have never made any adjustments to my power setting in Windows or the BIOS. I am using a balanced power scheme.[CODE]
People, my parent's Windows 7 desktop PC (just only year old) shuts down every time when a key has been pressed on the keyboard. Norton can't find any isssues. What do you reckon might cause this?
Okay, so this morning I got Windows 7 64bit installed, for some reason my computer just shutdowns itself either on login screen or after I have logged in. The PC is pre built. I don't know why it doing this, the longest it been on is 10 minutes than shuts down.
Having problems with the Sleep, Restart, and Shut Down functions after struggling trying to get a defective external disk drive enclosure to work. When I use any of the above functions the computer shuts down. I cannot wake by moving or left clicking the mouse as before. The computer shuts down and will not come on with the front panel power button. Ditto for Restart. I have to pull the power cord for about a minute before reconnecting. Then I press the power button and the computer commences to boot and windows initializes very slowlyI restored the computer to an earlier time before using the defective external drive enclosure, but I still have the same powerup/boot symptoms. stonooka has chosen the best answer to his/her question.Click here to view the answer that was selected.
Every time I try to get into Windows Explorer (not Internet Explorer), it shuts down. Every time I try to attach a file in my e-mail (yahoo mail) whatever browser I am using shuts down. I have run numerous scans and no problem shows up.
so I had this homemade computer, the specs: [CODE]and after I uninstalled linux from my Ubuntu-Seven dual boot,I used the MBR and boot command in the ERD to fix my bootloader so I can use windows. but after a while, it started powering off randomly, even when I was using it. then when I switch it back on, it says windows was shut down improperly, making me think it's a hardware problem. I've tried RAM test,
I have 2 computers here. One is a E-Machines, and the other is a custom built. Both units as soon as you power them on, they go thru the boot up process, but anywhere from 2 to 10 seconds later, the unit turns off. I've tried swapping the ram and the power supply. I have disconnected the keyboard, monitor, mouse and speakers with no change. Both of them developed this problem over night. They do not stay booted up long enough to get into the setup or to even try booting from a DVD.
For the past month or so, my laptop has been randomly shutting down with no warning whatsoever. It doesn't even restart, it just completely turns off. I can be doing anything and it will happen.
At first I thought it was overheating but then I installed SpeedFan and it's still doing it (and I can tell from feeling under the computer that it's no longer overheating).
I've run virus scan after virus scan (Malwarebyetes and Microsoft Security Essentials) but it's not finding anything wrong with my computer.
I have an eMachines T5254 that has Windows 7 Home Premium on it, upgraded from Vista.
We recently located our home computers, modem and router to another room. I reconnected everything with the same cables, and it came on fine. After an automatic Systems Update it did not come back on, and now when I try to boot from either the Boot Manager or Advanced Boot Screen, at every option it loads files and then, before or during the time when the lights and logo start to appear, it turns off. I do not have the recovery disk, and in any case my DVD-RW has not worked for about a year.
I have a new DVD-RW which I am going to install, but I am uncertain if that will solve the problem. Is there any way to get to a Command prompt without Windows booting up, and at least access the hard drive that way, or am I up the well known tributary with inadequate means of propulsion?
When ever i play Diablo or any other game it runs smoothly for about 30 minutes and the monitor shuts off and theres no sound but the computer is still on. I bought my computer a few months ago so i dont know what the problem is. Here are my specs.
OS Version: Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium, Service Pack 1, 64 bit
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-2500 CPU @ 3.30GHz, Intel64 Family 6 Model 42 Stepping 7
So, everytime I'm in the middle of a game. For example I was playing DayZ and my PC just shuts down. It has been doing this for awhile. It does it on other games like Half-Life 2. I have a pretty powerful computer. It doesn't have this problem when video editing with 720p footage. I've tried the CHSDISK thing (i think thats how you spell it) and it still shuts down randomly during game. I've also tried turning off all the startup programs.

hope somebody might recognize the symptoms. last 12 months Been running windows 7 on a top range PC computer, 2 TB HD 16G ram ,2G Graphics card so the hardware is excellent, just recently when we get it to boot up sometimes its normal and boots up in a couple of minutes but others it can take an hour, when we open |word or other programmes like Serif Page Plus, etc it just to open it shuts the programme down, there's is way we can save anything as "Save As" seems to be a major problem. When we are about to shut down it come up with various programmes saying such and so programme has experienced a problem and had to close, even as far as saying that windows explorer had experienced a problem and had to close. Our gut instinct is its windows 7 , we have no idea what happened, we have two computers linked one is used solely for internet use the big one for data and Desktop publishing. We have manged to save all our data by going into windows explorer and sliding the data on to an external Hard drive..
When I open up in regular mode, as it is setting up I get hundreds of small lines across the monitor. They are thin lines like on notebook paper but very close together. Then within a few minn. the computer restarts. My operating system is windows vista. When I restart it in safe mode I don't get the lines and it works fine except for the programs that don't start up like sound and some of the programs I try to use. My computer repeatedly shuts down on me. Yesterday it must have shut down on me 20 times. My virus and malware scans come out clean. It usually goes to a menu asking me if I want to start the computer normally or in safe mode. However sometimes, I have to run start-up repair and sometimes I get a blue screen. The problem is the blue screen doesn't stay up long enough for me to write down error codes or anything else it says.
I am using Windows 7 64bit Ultimate. My laptop, when going into Sleep, 1 out of say 7 times shuts down instead. Windows says it crashed and gives me some error logs. I am attaching the DMP file of the last one. I remember going to PERFORMANCE INFO & TOOLS > ADVANCED and it saying that a video drive may be to blame. I removed the video driver and let Windows update the driver itself. Am wondering if it somehow is still using that driver?
My computer randomly shuts down without warning at least once a day. A staticy screen pops up and then it just completely shuts down and restarts itself. Does anyone know what I could possibly do to fix this problem?
