Not sure why its doing this. Just installed a clean version of windows 7 from vistaLeft it on all night last night cause was dling something to wake up with my computer off. Then later today had it on, has been working fine and then went out to eat and it was off again. Does it shut off after being idle ? is that a new feature or is something wrong?
View 9 RepliesWhen the PC is on it will depending on how long its been on will randomy just shut off. When it shuts off, it "sometimes" reboots but most often it "tries" to reboot but fails and then stays off. After this failed try to reboot if I press the power button on the case and mobo, nothing.Now if I turn OFF the PSU leave it for a few minutes and come back turn the PSU switch on and press the power button the system comes to life for a second or two then dies and will no respond to the power buttons until I turn off the PSU again.I have gotten it up and running from this state by leaving it off and unplugged for a couple of hours. When I say the PC comes to life for a second or two, I mean the case fans. If I get it booted up the BIOS is reset to default for some reason. Also if it makes it to windows, the notification area icons also gets reset... very very odd.I have a short video of the problem, sorry for the darkness, I finally decided to video it and it was 11pm.PSU dying or Mobo. I dont have extra's so I cant test them.Forgot to mention, ive checked for heat problems but none of my temps are high, they are all normal and its a Antec 1200 with tons of air movement.Event Viewer shows nothing expect for unexpected shutdown. My event viewer is clean from any errors also. I do not get any BSOD and this is on a fresh Windows 7 install from late Jan.

View 1 Replies View RelatedThe PC happens to be shutting down on its own and worse thing that frightens me is that it does not switch back on for at least the next 30 mins or so .. something like a cooling period.. I'm pretty sure that it may not be a heating issue because this shutting down does not necessarily happen when playing graphic intensive games.. happens sometimes when I leave the PC unattended or when there is just some mp3 playing on it.. hard for me to diagnose the root cause. The event viewer in control panel (which is something amazing in win 7 for troubleshooters !) seems to be capturing too many errors / warning / critical events. These shut downs happen to be critical events.

Running Win7 64 bit, built this computer back in December, has worked flawlessly until now. Last few days - operates fine for an hour or so, then freezes, goes black, crashes and reboots itself, only to stop at the loading OS screen due to 'Boot Disk Failure' Happens regardless of what I am doing, or even if idle. Have updated windows, ran virus and malware scans.

All Critical errors are event 41, Kernal Power - but I'm sure thats from me hardbooting on the disk failure.
I just went to Windows 7 on my laptop, got the 'quick-launch' working but when I click on one of the icons that icon disapears. If I start up a browser lets say, and I need to open another browser window I can't use the quick-launch cuz that icon disappears as soon as I opened the first window.Same with all of them, including 'windows explorer', one window and the icon disappears, is there a way to get them to stay?
View 14 Replies View RelatedFor the past month or so, my laptop has been randomly shutting down with no warning whatsoever. It doesn't even restart, it just completely turns off. I can be doing anything and it will happen.
At first I thought it was overheating but then I installed SpeedFan and it's still doing it (and I can tell from feeling under the computer that it's no longer overheating).
I've run virus scan after virus scan (Malwarebyetes and Microsoft Security Essentials) but it's not finding anything wrong with my computer.
ver the past year I could say I have been been getting a lot of random shutdowns with my Dell Studio 15. This can happen when I'm browsing the web, trying to play a game, or I leave my laptop on for a extended period of time (a day or more). I realize a year is along time to wait to solve a problem, but better now than never. My laptop is a Dell Studio 1555 running Windows 7 x64. Sometimes when I turn my laptop back on I can hear the fan running rapidly, yet when it shuts off I do not hear it. I believe these are due to heat and I just need to clean out my laptop. If and when I leave it on I come back to find it has restarted and most of the time there is a not a Blue Screen notice. Usually in this situation I just left my laptop on or I am streaming media. Sometimes it will Blue Screen but most recently, within the past few months it has not. Today it actually has produced one. Unfortunately I believe most logs are deleted due to my use of CCleaner and TuneUp Utilities, but I do have Critical events in my Error Logs which date back to 2 months ago.

Once I started playing, my computer randomly shuts off. Just completely turns off, no warning, nothing.I'm pretty sure that my computer is not overheating because I play StarCraft II on this computer and do not have any overheating issues. This Tony Hawk game is a much lighter game, taking much fewer resources.I have an HP HDX18 laptop computer. url...I probably need to provide some other stuff to aid in finding the problem, but I do not know what else to provide.

I originally ran windows xp professional until i upgraded to adobe cs5 and needed to switch to windows 7.now that i have windows 7 my programs stop working constantly. if i'm working in photoshop on a large photo the screen will go blank and a bubble will pop-up saying "driver stopped working but has started working again" and a lot of times photoshop, illustrator, and FL Studio will stop working and need to be shut down and started again. i've noticed sometimes when the computer is on overnight i'll wake up and it will be off. when i turn on the computer it will say that it didn't shut down properly. i was in the process of doing batch photo edits and it shut down on me right in the middle so i've got to figure out the problem. since i use this computer for freelance graphic design and photography. here are my specs.

View 10 Replies View RelatedI am using Windows 7 64bit Ultimate. My laptop, when going into Sleep, 1 out of say 7 times shuts down instead. Windows says it crashed and gives me some error logs. I am attaching the DMP file of the last one. I remember going to PERFORMANCE INFO & TOOLS > ADVANCED and it saying that a video drive may be to blame. I removed the video driver and let Windows update the driver itself. Am wondering if it somehow is still using that driver?

View 1 Replies View RelatedWhen I attempt to shut the computer down (Windows 7 Ultimate x64) it hangs at the Shutting Down screen... for hours... never actually shuts down. After 20-30 seconds there is no disk activity, so I just power it off or reset it and it's fine. Because of this method I worry about losing one of my disks, having already lost my backup storage disk as a result of this issue. In troubleshooting I have done the following: *Logged all the way out of all profiles and then with no one logged in clicked on shutdown, but I have the same issue, so I am thinking that it is a SYSTEM process that is causing the hang up. *Briefly checked Event Viewer and didn't notice anything. *There was a Microsoft FixIt that I applied that was related to this, but it did not fix the issue (can't remember the KB article number). So, I was hoping that someone could give me some advice on a good program or batch file to run that will do a good job at logging events during the shutdown process. Obviously Windows itself does this, but I was thinking more along the lines of logging specific Services as they are stopped.

Now it shuts off while watching a movie or even chatting on facebook and when i try to start it, it just shuts off on me during the windows 7 logo loading again. it gives me 2 options to boot from: normal, and repair mode. if i go normal it just shuts down. if i repair it not always but sometimes fixes the problem for an hour or 2. but sometimes it just shuts off again.I play this game of cat and mouse for about 4-5 tries and get it to load. it's like an old car. forgot to mention i also went from windows vista 32bit to windows 7 64bit and problem is still here my computer uses 4GB ram for hardware reserve which i don't mind. i tried to reset the bios from a backup and it still keeps screwing with me.

My monitor goes into DVI power saving mode (like when the computer sleeps), keyboard / mouse shut off, my external soundcard is un-synced, but the fans are all running. This issue is sporatic. Sometimes the PC shuts down completely, other times it does as described above. This issue started ocurring AFTER I installed a Crucail M4 SSD with a clean Windows 7 install. No other hardware changes.
Research lead me to changing the IEEE Power Managment to "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power." This solution did not work for me.
