View 0 Replies1) I have windows 7 and every time I press ctrl+alt+del a blue window pops up that takes up my whole screen and displays various options such as "change user" "change password" "Task Manager" etc. I just want it to immediately go to task manager every time without having to reconfirm with me!
2) How do I prevent a program from accessing a certain folder when that program is executed? For example if I play Civilization 5 and I want to play without my mods folder...how do I prevent the game from reading that specific folder?

Upon booting up, i tried to open any program shortcuts on the desktop but multiple windows prompt me whether i want to delete the shortcuts. Any files or folders i clicked it happens too. Hence halting up the system. At first i thought it was some kind of virus or malware, so booted to safe mode to have it scan. But surprisingly, the problem still persist in safe mode. So i ran some live cds and managed to clean the system. Booted up normally and the problem's still there. Did last known good config, system restore, checked and updated the drivers but to no avail. So i resort to the last method. Re install windows

View 9 Replies View RelatedI want to backup my computer on an external hard drive, which must be clean before the backup. There is one folder that I cannot delete. It is a folder with many subfolders. I cannot access the files in any of these subfolders. The message I get is: "Do want to permanently delete this folder? The folder contains items whose names are too long for the recycle bin." How can I get past this?

View 0 Replies View RelatedI want something on the context menu that:1. I can right click on empty folder space within the folder2. Context menu says "delete folder to recycle bin"3. The folder and all its contexts disappears and therefore so does the window I just used to delete itYou can do this with filemenu tools, but only for PERMANENT delete. I think this is too dangerous. Also sometimes I regret deleting something immediately. I just do it out of convenience. I have looked into the custom commands of filemenu tools and it does not facilitate this action.
View 1 Replies View RelatedIn Win7, if I click on Shutdown it shuts down (duh!) without prompting for confirmation. I like the confirmation in XP, it keeps me from making stupid mistakes. Well, some of them, anyway. To make things worse, logout and switch user are on a little tab off of Shutdown, so sometimes I hit Shutdown by mistake. Can this be configured to prompt for confirmation?

View 2 Replies View Relatedhow to recover a lost confirmation page. I entered a lottery visa today. I wanted to print the confirmation page but firefox was not responding. At the request of my aunt, I clicked the option to close the firefox program. I restarted firefox and the confirmation page did not reappear. The tab is not in my browsing history either. Is there anyway I can retrieve the information from my computer files?I have tried looking at the browser history. It was the only page not showing up. I have tried looking at the firefox cache but it only showed the last two hours of activity. I have tried looking in the temp files but all of the ones I have went to in the computer are from days ago. I cannot find a folder that says internet temporary files.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently got a new PC. Whenever I try to download a file through ANY browser, there is no "confirmation box" (to be more specific, the popup box that shows asking what to do with the file before you begin to download it). The confirmation box only shows up once the file has fully downloaded. This is kinda frustrating as I'd like to see details whilst downloading files. I have tried Chrome, Firefox, Opera and even IE, all of these yield the same results. I've tried disabling Microsoft Security Essentials to see if that was interfering with downloading, but that was to no avail.
My specs:
Intel Core i7-2600k
Gigabyte GA-Z68XP-UD3 1155 socket
Powercolor ATI Radeon HD 6950 2GB
8GB of RAM
Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit.
When I try to delete a file, either by choosing the "delete" option on the context menu or by pressing the "delete" key with the file selected, it take between something like 20 to 60 seconds to show me the usual confirmation window (the one with "Are you sure you want to delete file XXX.X?"). It's quite annoying, however it seems that that is the only problem. When the confirmation windows does come up the file can be deleted OK and I can drag and drop files to the recycling bin without any problems.

View 2 Replies View RelatedIn this tutorial, we'll take a look at the Recycle Bin folder. The Recycle Bin is where files and folders are sent when you remove them. It acts like a safety net against deleting data by accident. In the video we'll show you how to recover files from the Recycle Bin, empty the bin and also change its size. You will also see a few exceptions where files are not sent to the Recycle Bin and are deleted immediately instead.
View 0 Replies View RelatedI have a Windows 7 running system and recently I am having some annoying problems with it. First of all, it takes extremely long time to start-up and shut down. After it finally loads, when I try to access one of my drives Windows Explorer freezes. It also can't identify some of the file types, and I can't run some of the applications like Disk Cleanup. I even can't open Recycle Bin. All in all it's completely messed up. I've checked it for viruses with ESET and it couldn't find any.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI am looking for a stand-alone "Recycle Bin" that I can put on USB drives. Most files deleted from a USB do not go to the regular Windows 7 Recycle Bin , and I need as a safeguard. I have undelete software that I can use on the USB if I need to recover a recently deleted file , but a "Recycle Bin" would be much easier. I have tried a program called ibin but it seemed to have a lot of bugs and did not do what it was supposed to , so gave up.

I have an SSD as my main drive and a HDD for all of my files. I have tried to make a shortcut from the recycle bin on the SSD to the HDD but whenever I delete the "RECYCLE.BIN" folder Windows 7 instantly creates a new one before I can run "mklink /D" in the command prompt.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have two drives on my laptop: C, 60gb and D, 400gb. C is completely full and D is virtually empty. I understand that the recycle bin resides on C but Windows does not allow me to empty it (the command is 'greyed' out, i.e. disabled). I have studied many such complaints on your site and elsewhere but my experience does not seem to align with that of others and the 'cures' do not work. I have several hundred photos stored, presumably on C, so I don't understand why they are not stored on D where there is plenty of room. This problem came to light when I tried to download Windows 7 Service Pack 1. I have performed a Disk Cleanup, and also a Run System File Checker (SFC) scan which produced the response 'Windows resource protection did not find any integrity violations', which unfortunately means nothing to me.
View 11 Replies View Relatedive been backing up data on my computer only to open up recycle bin the other day and find most of the files missing. I was very confused. Then i realised i had recently deleted 2 or 3 large files in size of 2 or more gb and that the recycle bins capacity is 4gb Has recycle bin deleted my older items because there wasn't enough space? I need to find or restore the old files. Im guessing the recycle bin dir in c: has now been modified showing the current status. Can i recover any older recycle bin dir or any files which list the files that were in recycle bin before is was modified and deleted old files? I have tried free undelete programs but they all only show the current recycle bin contents, i need to find the old contents. I also mucked around with some security settings of recycle bin and corrupted it. I had to empty it. Does this mean a new recycle bin file has been made? How can i restore the old contents.

View 2 Replies View RelatedMy recycle bin does no longer retain deleted files and every time I delete a file it gives the warning that the file will be permanently deleted. Custom size of the recycle bin is 16375 MB; the option: don't move files to the recycle bin, remove files immediately when deleted is unticked; the option: display delete confirmation is ticked. This malfunction started after I downloaded a set of Windows7 updates. In the recycle bin there are still 3 files I had deleted as usual before the updating. I tried to go back to a restore point made before the updating but all the same the recycle bin does not keep newly deleted files.

Is there any way to point the Recycle Bin away from the C: drive to the D: drive in Windows 7 Professional?
On my desktop, the IMAGE for the recycle bin has disappeared! The text for the icon is showing as normal and I can drag items to the space above the words "Recycle Bin" and then right-click that space to empty it, but no image of it.
So I decided to create a shortcut to the recycle bin on my desktop (through 'create shortcut' button). The icon then appeared BUT only on the shortcut, not the orginal.
