View 9 RepliesI downloaded windows 7 from the MSDN Microsoft alliance thing that my professor signed me up for. Anyway while i was installing i got to the part where it said expanding windows files and gave a % or something. Anyway it got to 65% or so and i left the room and when i came back a minute later my computer was off. At first i thought it was probably restarting because i know that is suppose to happen. However when i waited a few minutes i realized it wasnt coming back on. So i tried to hit the power button to turn it on and i get NOTHING! What the heck happened, everything seemed it was running fine. My processor supports 64 bit and i have more than enough hardware to run it fine. I even did the adviser before hand and my system checked out.

Weird thing is, when I shut my computer down now, windows seems to shutdown, and I hear my Hard drives turnoff, but the fans and leds on the computer keep running for about 2 to 3 minutes before they shut off. Before with my old HDD, it would shutdown windows and the computer would shutdown immediately afterwards.
I'd like it to shutdown immediately again, I sit there waiting for it to turn off as I want to make sure I don't leave the fans running all night.
I try to install Windows 7 on acer aspire 5536 but when i get windows loading files or when i need to press any key to start up the windows install it just shutdown. Now it has vista installed. What could be the problem? On acer website it says that it's compatible with Windows 7

I am using a burned windows 7 disc, I have a OEM key that I bought from newegg however the disc is not with me as I am in Canada and I had it shipped to family who gave me the key through e-mail.Also, I was successful in installing XP on the hard drive, but windows 7 only causes a shutdown. It had windows 7 before that I had installed, but it was the enterprise version and it had no product key so I wiped the hard drive once I bought the legitimate key
I just bought a Dell inspiron laptop with windows 7 - I have not had any help from Dell. The issue is that when i shut down my PC it starts to isntall updates and warns me not to shut off the PC. However the updates go on for ever. Every time I shut down, there are two or 10 updates. each update takes 1 hour and can go on to 48 hours. I cant do anything with the PC unitl the updates finish. I force it shut down but when i bring it back up it starts installing the updates. very frustrating. I am very disappointed with Dell because they wont help until I cerate a tech support with them for $300.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI've spent probably 7 hours trying to figure this out from searches and different potential resolutions and I am completely stumped. This is a fresh install of Windows 7 Home Premium on a fairly basic machine. I can boot in to safe mode, disconnect any connection to the network, ensure WOL is turned off via the CMOS, and still Windows 7 will not shutdown. There is no BSOD.
It simply appears to shutdown, but then the computer reboots with the PC offering a beep in the same way as if I performed a cold boot. If I elect to restart this beep will not be reflected. I've tried different drivers and just about everything I can think of and still nothing. The event viewer appears almost entirely clean as well. I've also restored fail-safe defaults in the BIOS as well as Optimized and the issue persists.
I just got a new computer, and was on the process of transferring my files from my old computer using Windows Easy Transfer. It was taking a while so I left it on overnight. When I checked on it again, it had reboot to install windows updates. Now, I've got a folder in my Users section that apparently weights 0 bytes, but that is taking up easily 100 GB, which I also cannot access; for trying to do so leaves me with the same explorer window, and unable to return using the address bar or the back arrow. Is there anything I can do about it?
View 7 Replies View RelatedI recently got a PC that my office was getting rid of. The PC was in great shape and I was told it worked fine when they gave it to me. They ripped out the hard drive and gave me the machine. As soon as I got it, I put a brand new 2Tb Seagate HDD in. I also replaced the existing RAM (2x1Gb sticks) with 2x 2Gb sticks with the memory speed to match my motherboard. Finally I swapped out the ATI Radeon HD2900XT with a Nvidia Geforce GTX 460. There was a sound card (PCI) I removed as well as a redundant firewire port I unhooked from the Mobo. I then booted and peformed a fresh install of Windows 7 32bit Pro. Everything seemed to be going fine... until I tried to shut down. Windows would freeze on the Shutting Down screen. I mean freeze because the spinning circle would stop and the entire machine was unresponsive.
I read online that pre-Service Pack 1 Windows 7 didn't like multi-core processers and would have issues shutting down, so I updated to SP1 (along with a bunch of other updates). Now when I try to shut down, the Shutting Down screen disappears and the signal to the monitor ends, however the machine stays on. I can hear the fans running and see the lights to the PCI cards still on. Once again I have no option but to hold the power button until it shuts down. One extra note I double checked every driver and they are all up to day. Also when I boot in Safe Mode the PC shuts down fine and I have no problem restarting, just shutting down...
In Windows 7, when the Shut down button has an exclamation point on it, it installs updates before shutting down. How can I see what updates it is going to install before I shut down? Can I turn this option off so it only installs updates when I select?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI was installing SP1 on a recently purchased laptop (Acer Aspire 5742) running Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit. Installation was done via Windows Update and was reported successful. On subsequent required reboot, however, the system just hang, at shutdown screen. Some half a day has passed already and I wonder what now, whether I should go for a hard reset and force turning it off, and what would be the proper way to do that, in hope to cause the least damage, both to Windows and the SP install and even the hardware eventually?... I've tried already hitting the power button, even for some more than a couple seconds, but it didn't go off and I admit I became afraid of persisting on that... I've also already read about having to hold the power button for actually some 60 seconds..

View 6 Replies View RelatedSuppose for a minute that you've used windows update and now it has the little shield over Shut Down, indicating that when it shuts down it will install updates. Now suppose when it tries to shut down it cannot install the update and stalls on "Reverting changes". Suppose you are lucky enough to be able to manually restart your computer and everything is fine, but the little shield is still over shut down. Is there a way to remove the updates you have installed before shutting down?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have two windows updates that keep failing. When i go to shutdown my computer I always have an update icon attached to the shutdown key. The download is always 1of1. Then when i reboot, the update icon is still there. I'm thinking since the two updates are failing, it has something to do with the 1of1 update not downloading properly. I went to windows update to check for new updates, and the only one is the two that keep failing. My computer just blue screened on shutdown today, winch got me thinking i really need to fix this.

When they cleaned it my computer will no longer boot up. Norton worked with me for three days on the problem but we were unable to fix the computer. I followed other web sites and repaired my MBR but it still will not boot up. I tried System Repair, Check point, Image, and Dell system restore and all failed. I have tried to use the Windows install CD and all I get is a black screen with a flashing cursor and then after 3 minutes the compute attempts to boot again and fails. I tried everything to try and wipe the drive from C prompt and it will not let me. I have very weak computer skills but I can follow directions and I have wiped a previous computer I owned. (I confirmed that my CD drive is working) I also should mention I have a second hard drive on my computer that I backed everything up to.

I have tried reinstalling about 10+ times. I have tried 64bit and 32 bit versions and I have tried 2 different HDDs. The problem isn't the disc because it installs great onto one of my HDDs on my other computer but when I switch that HDD to my new one, it freezes.

Or you build another computer and want to use that Windows (the one you had already installed in the old computer) to install onto the new machine you just build ( this is like you upgrade you studio), is it possible to do that or you must buy another Windows installation CD?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm doing a clean install of win 7 64 bit off of an official cd. Part of the install goes well. It gets to 100%, reboots, goes to a screen that says it's loading settings. Then it gets to the completing installation phase and always at the same time, it shuts down. I'll hear the CD stop in my computer, then five seconds later, the computer just shuts off and I'll hear a faint beep. There's no warning message on the screen first. If I turn it on again, Windows will give the error that it restarted during install and I'll have to start over.

I talked to techguru guys online and they said that I had many corrupt files and wanted $119.00 to fix it one time or $299. for a two year contract. While they were remotely using my computer I could see the corrupted 32 bit files in the registry. I dont know if this was true or if it was the reason that the updates do not install. and they said the corrupted files are replicating and will crash my computer.
