Before the most recent MS security updates my Windows 7 seemed ok.
After the security updates the image previewer freezes a lot when I'm clicking the arrows to go between images. It'll work fine for a few images and then freeze. Sometimes it'll recover and work after a few moments and other times it says "Loading" forever.
My SSD boot drive died yesterday but I have a recent image. What I don't have is a boot drive right now. I'm probably going to check some prices on SSD's locally later today and pick one up since it turns out the brand I was using isn't very reliable (OCZ Agility 2 60 gig - lasted 3.5 months). Assuming I do pick up a new boot drive how should I proceed? Should I install Windows on my HDD then restore the image to the new SSD or should I install Windows to the SSD and just restore everything but Windows? Or should I be doing something totally different?
View 5 Replies View RelatedBasically, This computer has always been very stable, but now it seems to BSOD completely at random, and I'm at a complete loss as to why.
The time after which these problems started was when I went through and updated a host of drivers and the BIOS (all of which, having been neglected, were hideously out of date). I had also just installed a new Asus Xonar sound card.
Initially I thought it was going to be the new sound card, so I ripped that out and uninstalled it's drivers. Problem didn't go away. Tried switching off some of the integrated hardware the BIOS had turned on when it got updated (serial port, extra sata controller etc), and again, uninstalling the drivers for those. No luck. Had a look at the crash dumps in WinDbg, which weren't terribly helpful as they always pointed to "ntkrnlmp.exe" (which as I understand it is the very core of the Windows Kernel) and faulting process seems to be equally as random as the time it happens - over the five times it's happened, it's been steam, msn, skyrim and "System" twice. I tried reinstalling windows a-fresh (on my nice new SSD), install clean copies of all the latest drivers directly from the Motherboard manufacturer's website (and AMD in the case of the graphics): Low and behold! It still BSODs. All I can conclude is that ONE of these drivers is faulty somehow (or possibly the BIOS, I havn't tried downgrading that), but I can't work out for the life of me which one, and the few I've tried uninstalling have made no difference.
My only inkling is that it seems to happen most frequently when there is a disk access (like saving a game, or me moving some files around), so maybe it's to do with that?
My computer was working fine until I downloaded the windows service pack 1. First it was every now & then but soon my computer was freezing up ( not responding ) and it was impossible to even complete a document. This happens in all applications. I noticed with each new window update the worse my computer got. Still under warranty I spent hours on the phone with DELL twice, finally I did a fresh re-install of windows 7 professional. After the fresh install everything was fine. UNTIL I downloaded the windows updates, it started to 'not respond' again. I uninstalled the updates. The not responding issue is gone but I am concerned about windows security updates. Do I need them? I have contacted windows about this issue many times over the past several months with no response.

The screen literally freezes on one image and I cannot move the mouse/use the keyboard. The fans are still running inside the PC and I cannot see why this happens.

I have recently installed Windows 7 RC and was happily using the recent items to access a particular mp3 I use often. Now, for some reason, Recent Items on the Start Menu only seems to display links to documents and saved web pages. It will not store the mp3 I use or any piece of music for that matter. I'm assuming it won't display media items in general.

I can't understand why I even need them, as I uninstalled net framework. Notice how the update at 8:17 AM., KB2656368, is the same as one of the 4 updates installed at 7:47 PM. Windows wants to install the same four kb files again.How do I stop this?

I recently built my first PC three days ago...
Specs:
i7 bloomfield 960 processor
4x4 vengeance ram
crosair hx850 PSU
evga x58 ftw3 mobo
hd 6870 radeon graphics xfx
When I first installed windows it started to work just fine but I soon noticed that it would randomly freeze every 15-30 minutes of use, but not on a particular program or anything. I assumed it was drivers so I installed the latest drivers for my GPU and MOBO and keyboard. It seemed fine again until it started crashing again. I ran a GPU burn test and a CPU burn test it passed both. (I tried runing memtest86+ but it froze at like 12%) Then I tried fixing the registry so I downloaded ccleaner and fixed the registry problems. Freezes continued. I finally decided to re install windows so I did and the problems still continued. I am at a loss of what to do and can't think of anything else.
I have 5 updates that fail to install. I have also tried to manually install them, but they still fail Here are the updates:

The error code I get is "800736B3". I ran MS FIXIT and it said they did not detect any problems.

I know this has been raised in the past but my problem is slightly different.I prefer to choose "Check for updates but let me choose whether to download or install them", however periodically the settings change without my consent to "Never check for updates".This is very frustrating as I am constantly having to keep an eye on this, and change the settings back to what they were in order to receive critical updates, or indeed any other update.The laptop was bought new just under 12 months ago and came with Windows 7 Home Premium 64Bit pre-installed.Has anyone else experienced this, or can anyone advise on a fix?

I am unable to connect to MSE to get updates or to Windows to get updates. I have run Malwarebytes and Emsisoft and neither one can find a bug. On the 6th, and last disc I was told that it didn't properly close the session. 3 days ago something happened, while using Unlocker program to delete malware. My 2 user accounts would not open, until after I opened my admin account. So I decided to do a factory restore. I skipped the backup HDD, since I had just completed one the day before, and didn't was to chance backing up malware.After the factory restore completed, all was working ok. But when I tried to restore my HDD backup, the system said it was looking for a backup of May 15, 2011. I doesn't recognize my backup of 4 days ago.Is there any way possible to get Win 7 to accept the most recent backup??

The only option available is my hard drive partition on which i also had saved a system image. Though windows recommends External hard drive for backing up image when backing up the system.

When I am prompted to download the newest version of itunes it gets to about 75% on the progress bar then completely freezes indefinitely. I don't get any error messages, it just stops progressing with the installation. I think its 10.5.3.

View 0 Replies View RelatedComputer is currently suffering from persistent freezing and bluescreens. It seems to happen almost randomly, and usually very soon after startup and loading of Windows. System restore has not helped.'fraid that's all the info I can give right now. Any recommendations? If anyone wants me to run hijackthis or dxdiag and post results I'd be more than happy to (assuming I can get that far before it freezes!). Safe mode does work, and the problem does not occur while in safe mode.

How do I restore form that. Alternatively I have a separate backup of my documents etc. As a straight save. Would I be better to just drag them back onto new build and not bother with restore.

1) when i restarted it start with dell logo i press F2,F12,F10 all three i have press to open bios setting but nothing works it will go to same window so now i a not able to get into windows bios setup
2) i tried to format it again as my dvd writer does not work so i tried with usb when i restarted my laptop it does not load the files and agin redirect to the same error window.
I unfortunately listened to the husband of one of my wife's friends and ran CCleaner on my Win 7 PC and now the Recent Items list on my Start Menu, which I use a lot, is totally fouled up. The settings are correct and I've edited the registry but the number of items displayed is never consistent, never more than 6, and sometimes disappearing completely, whereas I have it set to store 10 items.

A recent hardware or software change might be the cause. Of course, normally their is Launch Startup Repair, And Start windows normally. If I press enter on either of those it says "windows is loading files" It does that twice with a white bar then returns me to the same screen with the same 2 options. It is the same problem no matter what, I have tried pressing enter on startup to go to safe mode, but safe mode does the exact same thing. I tried going to the system recovery page, it does the same thing, cannot access anything on my computer. But, if I enter on Star windows normally twice, it does indeed say starting windows, then back to same screen first time, Then second time it will go to Aptio setup utility-Copyright (c) 2011 american megatrends, inc. It has the Main, Advanced, Security, Boot, Exit options with computer specs, product information so on so forth. I have absolutely no idea what any of these do, so I usually exit and again the process repeats, I go back to the 2 options, they either bring me to that Aptio Setup page, or back to the same page. It's frustrating that I cant use system recovery since it goes to the same page and Startup repair wont work, I have absolutely no idea what to do and am in need of serious help. This problem occured when a windows thing popped up saying "A virus may be on your computer" generally I clicked it, my computer shut down automatically and thats what started this whole repetetive process.
