Got Wrong Version Installed / Need To Install Correct Version

Dec 8, 2011

So I bought what I thought what the full version of Windows 7 Pro online for the student discount for $65. I got it all installed and the activation key wouldn't work.Long story short I got the upgrade version on accident. So I got that refunded and I'm about to just go buy Home Premium. I need to install it. Do I need to uninstall Pro before I install Home Premium? Or will it just get rid of it for me when I install it?

Upgrade Version Vs Clean Install Version?

Sep 1, 2010

I need to know if I can use a clean install disk for Windows 7 Ultimate to upgrade from Vista or if I have to use an Upgrade version?

I'm leaning towards buying the clean install disk so that if I should loose the hard drive at some future point I could just clean install Win 7 Ultimate from the disk without having to first install Vista and then upgrade.

Regardless of which type I purchase, am I better off to buy the OEM disk from the machine manufacturer (Toshiba) or just purchase any OEM disk? Of course, if I want Microsoft support then I need to purchase retail disks.

Unable To Install ITunes On Windows 7?

Jun 20, 2012

I previously had iTunes installed on my laptop (see specs below), but when the newest version came out, I kept getting error messages (shown below) when I tried to update to the latest version. Therefore, I completely removed iTunes from my laptop with the goal of doing a re-install from scratch. However, I continue to receive the same error messages as before (I say "continue" because I've tried several times with the same result each time). The installation begins without any problems, but after a few seconds, I get the first error message (see below), and then when I click OK, it runs for a few more seconds, and I get the second error message (see below). I am not having any other problems with my system, and I have run several anti-malware and -virus scans to make sure the problem in not an infection? And, by the way, the same thing happens when I right click the iTunes set-up icon and select "Run as Administrator".

FIRST ERROR MESSAGE:
iTunes Setup Error Message.jpg   35.27K

SECOND ERROR MESSAGE:

iTunes Setup Error Message #2.jpg   35.11K

AFTERWARDS, THE FOLLOWING MESSAGE APPEARED:

6 downloads

Machine Specs:

Can't Install Itunes?

Sep 26, 2012

Trying to install Itunes on my wife's computer. The program will only try to install on the w drive which is too small and can't be expanded. I've tried the steps to change the install to the c drive, but when I get to the install page it reverts to the w drive and will not let me select c drive. This is making me nuts. Anyone know how to fix this.

Recent Items Do Not Show Recent Mp3's

Aug 4, 2009

I have recently installed Windows 7 RC and was happily using the recent items to access a particular mp3 I use often. Now, for some reason, Recent Items on the Start Menu only seems to display links to documents and saved web pages. It will not store the mp3 I use or any piece of music for that matter. I'm assuming it won't display media items in general.

Admin Account Does Not Have Permission To Install Itunes?

Feb 2, 2012

I have administrator rights on my Windows 7 account, and I always have problems installing programs. Usually it is with a folder called config.msi. I don't have write permission for that folder and when I install anything I get multiple error messages about it.I have been unable to install the latest Itunes, and I tried to install it manually. Everything went fine, except for the usuall config.msi errors, until the final part of the install. It said it did not have permission to access the itunes folder in program files. I looked at the properties of the folder, and I did not have write permission. The Itunes installer undid the entire install and deleted the itunes folder. When I go to the program files folder, I do not have write access to it, and I cannot change it. I followed the instructions in this forum to enable the administrator account, and could not get write access to that folder from administrator either. The error messages I get look like there is another account out there that is a superuser. Is there any cure for this?

Clean Install Windows 7 Over XP Pro - Incorrect Version For PC

Jan 17, 2011

I'm trying to install Windows 7 on my wife's PC that currently has Windows XP Pro SP3 32 bit. The PC is a year old and has AMD II X250 cpu's on an ASUSTeK Computer INC. M3N78-EM motherboard with 4 Gb RAM and a 500 Gb hard disk, a NVIDIA GeForce 8300 display adaptor and an Iiyama 17 " monitor. When it first failed I thought it was due to only having 1.85 Gb free of 60 Gb on drive C, so I used Easus to delete drive E with 437 Gb and increase drive C to be the whole 500 Gb. Still no joy, so I looked at the installation guides on the web and realised I had to change the boot sequence in the BIOS so that the CD drive came before the hard disk.

If I try to boot from the Windows 7 Home Premium family pack CD I get the option to boot from CD or DVD, which I accept by hitting a key. The screen then displays "Starting Windows" with a progress bar, after which the Microsoft logo is displayed and then finally the Windows 7 splash screen is displayed. After this, nothing further happens. The mouse cursor moves with the mouse but the keyboard doesn't appear to be active. The CD continues to spin for a while before it too gets bored and shuts down. If I start running XP and then use Windows Explorer to start the setup.exe on the CD I get an error message telling me that I have the incorrect version for the PC.

"iTunes Cannot Run Because Some Of Its Required Files Are Missing. Please Reinstall ITunes"

Aug 8, 2011

I use iTunes on my Windows 7 computer to sync with my iPhone, and the last time I went to open iTunes it gave me the error message "iTunes cannot run because some of its required files are missing. Please reinstall iTunes."I had heard that if I uninstalled Quicktime (which is bundled with iTunes when that is downloaded), then reinstalled it separately, it would work again, but after trying that it didn't. So I decided to just uninstall iTunes, then reinstall it. However, every time I try to uninstall it in Add/Remove Programs, it just sits there saying it'll be about eight more seconds to go to finish deleting, but it just sits, and sits, and sits...... Nothing. I also tried to just install the newest iTunes on top of the existing one, but every time I try it tells me that it's already installed and to click "Ok." So I can't uninstall it, nor can I install it, nor will iTunes open on its own. I had done a system restore recently, so I don't know if that had anything to do with it.
