Had a HDD failure - just replaced it and a clean install of W7 32 bit. I had been carrying out regular backups using Backup wizard and a have a recent backup set. How do I restore form that. Alternatively I have a separate backup of my documents etc. As a straight save. Would I be better to just drag them back onto new build and not bother with restore.

On the 6th, and last disc I was told that it didn't properly close the session. 3 days ago something happened, while using Unlocker program to delete malware. My 2 user accounts would not open, until after I opened my admin account. So I decided to do a factory restore. I skipped the backup HDD, since I had just completed one the day before, and didn't was to chance backing up malware.After the factory restore completed, all was working ok. But when I tried to restore my HDD backup, the system said it was looking for a backup of May 15, 2011. I doesn't recognize my backup of 4 days ago.Is there any way possible to get Win 7 to accept the most recent backup??

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have an old HD that I used to use for backups in a different PC setup, and though I deleted those backups when I moved on to a different HD, the backups were recoverable using Pandora and I believe intact since I never used the drive in question after that time. So specifically, I now have a folder called "Backup Set 2011-02-13 190024" that contains a 84 zipped folders worth 13.1GB that comprise that backup, and I want to restore them in some automatic fashion to see what's actually worth salvaging. (I assume this doesn't have to be done one-folder-at-a-time, drilling down through five layers of branches in the folder-tree, and almost immediately forgetting where I am...) But when I look at "Backup and Restore," I can't bring up this or any target folders - the link "Select another backup to restore files from" produces a blank set of choices, and there doesn't appear to be any way to 'load' a particular folder to restore, as I would have expected.

I want to back-up to a different drive but Win Back-up seems to be fixated on the old drive that no longer exists (I pulled the USB cord).The "Mange space" link is greyed out and when I click on "Change Settings" I get notified that the operation failed due to an internal error (0x800800005 Server Execution Failed) I've checked and the Windows Update service is running, so why did it "fail"?

I created an image using the Microsoft Backup and Restore tool in Windows 7. I saved the image on a network shared folder.I then went to the Advanced Recovery Methods in Windows to restore my image...that I just created. It restarts the computer and goes into recovery mode, I point to where the image is located, I entered the network credentials and it give me an error. "The Specified network resource or device is no longer available. (0x80070037)"

I just got it back from the warranty repair center, where they replaced the hard drive and graphics fan & heatsink, and reloaded the factory windows version. Before I sent it out for repair, I used Windows Backup to create a backup of all my files on a Toshiba casio 500GB external USB drive (I had over 300 GB of files, so it was easier to use Windows Backup than drag and drop all the files, at least at the time). Now that I have the laptop back, I'm having trouble restoring my files. When I go to Control Panel-> Backup & Restore, a message appears in the restore section, saying "Windows could not find a backup for this computer." I've tried reconnecting the drive as well as restarting my computer, but to no avail. I can see and explore the files in My Computer, so I know the hard drive is properly connected.
View 7 Replies View RelatedOK, so a couple of days ago, my HP desktop crashed and then went through the whole System Recovery loop(I couldn't login to Safe mode, wouldn't let me past the System Recovery Screen). Well I backed up the entire C drive using Backup your files in the menu. Then it shows you all the file types it will back up; i.e photos, videos, e-mails and bookmarks. So I did that to an external hard drive and it comes out to 143GB.Now comes my problem. I've been able to copy everything from the external hard drive using RecoveryMgr.exe which opens the WIM files and saves them to my C: hard drive under System Recovery Files. However it does not seem to work when it comes to putting in my old Thunderbird e-mails, contacts and such or in Firefox to restore my bookmarks, saved passwords.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am running Windows 7 Ultimate and have an issue with System Restore in that ia m unable to creste a restore point, or any other program that wants to make a restore point before installing is unable to do so. There is a System Image Restore Point Back Up dated 01/02/11, which i am unable to access. I receive an error message:-
"The selected Back Up could not be found. System Restore is looking for a restore point that is on your back up. Choose a different restore point."
I do not have any other restore points, is it possible that this restore point is causing the problem with System Restore
I have been have some problems with my HP dv 8500 laptop. It has vista on it. I could not get any windows updates. So I backed up my files to a flashdrive and did a system recovery. View 2 Replies View RelatedI had some problems with my laptop and had to re-install my OS. I made a image backup of my HD with Acers's backup manager only to find it doesn't restore my data at all. (According to Acer this has become a common problem with the backup manager). I also made a copy of my HD luckily.
After spending some time on Google I discovered that the contacts, send emails and received emails were stored as an .eml file. I thought all was well and started searching through the copied data and found nothing. On top of that I discovered that the directory sections where the supposed files are stored, is not the same on the newly installed OS as it is on the copied data. For example:The copied data I searched in was under Users>username)>AppData>Local>Windows Live (or first) Microsoft>Windows Live but the new OS directory doesn't look the same.The windows Live 2011 I used before backing up was part of an update in the beginning of 2011 from MS and the one installed now I found on another site and then windows updated the rest. My OS must be the same as it's from a hidden partition on my Acer .
I have seen some XML files and don't know if this is a similar data file for WML.

It all started when I was using Revo/Uninstall to uninstall Office 2010 from my hard drive. I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium. I have installed a licensed copy of Office 2007 (Student Edition), which was working just fine. Revo identified 2 registry entries that I believed applied to 2010 that could be deleted as part of the uninstall procedure. I told it to delete the entries and then, having second thoughts, I canceled the uninstall. I saw, however, that the icon for Office 2010 had disappeared from my list of "All Programs" (although certain related Windows 2010 icons still remain.I attempted an "System Restore" only to find that the "System Restore" function for each of my hard drive partitions was set to "off." I'm not exactly sure how the Backup and Restore feature in Windows 7 work. Does it backup only your operating system and important processes and certain programs, or does it also backup the data on your harddrive such as music, movies etc? Is this feature essentially the same as creating a recovery partition/disk ?

I did not check off the option "Include a system image of Drives: ---". After the backup completed I clicked on the JOSH-PC (backup file) the window saying "Choose an option below for the selected backup" came up. I recently did a Clean install of WIN 7 from scratch (after reloading the manufacturers settings), download Microsoft Updates and Kaspersky 2013. However I am unable to restore from my backup Drive (D), Win accepts the command and identifies the File/s to be restored, yet on completion the files do not appear to have been restored after a restart.
Is it possible to successfully backup and restore Windows 7 pro with the XP virtual disc installed with Acronis or similar programs? If so, are any special precautions required?

View 1 Replies View RelatedMy work laptop was being changed from a Dell to a Lenovo and I was using Windows Backup & Restore to backup my important documents and emails. I took a final backup to my external hard drive before handing my old laptop to IT. Once I restored all my files I noticed the following:
1. Some files were not the latest versions, i.e. they were a month old.
2. Some subfolders simply weren't there. I had two subfolder in one of my folders and only one was restored and not the other. I made sure that I restored from the latest backup file.
When I upgraded to Win 8 from Win 7 I imaged to my 2T usb drive with both of these programs.Is having two dissimilar programs going to cause any troubles?I always depended on Acronis but it seemed to be hard to install this time. They both check out ok with the discs.If 2 backups were a dependable move and did not cause a conflict, I would keep it as is.Should I keep the two or just one?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI recently did a system restore late at night just so this problem would not happen (around 2am) with no weather and with my luck the power clips on and off. I use windows 7 home edition. When I start my computer it does not go to the login screen but shows a big bar at the bottom saying "windows loading files".I have tried several methods on the repair screen such as:
1) Trying all of the system restores which show it failed
2) Going to the command prompt and typing
diskpart
list volume (to get drive letter)
select volume D: (my drive letter)
detail volume (making sure readonly is off)
Then I typed chkdsk D: /f it went through steps 1-2 fine but at 3 it explains that it "failed to transfer logged messages to the event log with status 50" System repair fails even with the disk in the computer, and I have no clue what to do.
