Raid 0 Disk Failure?

Sep 2, 2011

My system is configured with a SSD drive for my Windows 7 x64 Partition (C:) and I setup two 500 GB drives in a RAID 0 config (Z:) to host only game installations. One of the hard drives suffered a heart attack (I can only assume as there was no warning signs) therefore wiping out my games partition (all my saves are backed up to a remote location). Now, I'm trying to re-do my raid setup with a new drive, but when I try installing Steam (it's an .MSI file), it tells me that: "Error 1327.nvalid Drive Z:" and crashes prematurely without any option to specify another point of installation, the same happens when I try to uninstall via "Programs and Features" in the Control Panel. Now, I have quite a few games that are still showing up, and I get the error "Ble bla blah no longer exists or

Cannot Reinstall Windows 7 After Virus - RAID Not Found In Task Manager

Dec 28, 2010

My Acer 7736Z-4809 laptop (pre-installed with Win7 Home Premium 64bit, so I don't have the Win7 CD) was recently hit with a virus. I constantly got the BSOD "iaStor.sys" and a black screen. Startup Repair at first couldn't complete repair, but when I tried again, it found no errors. Tried System Restore to no avail. Was able to do a System Image Recovery using a backup on an external HD, but none of the programs worked (wanted to use Ad-Aware and Spybot to eliminate the virus). When I clicked on programs on the desktop or Start menu, nothing happened, didn't even get an "Open with." Even in Safe Mode, none of the programs worked.

I checked the Task Mgr, and explorer.exe was still there, but RAID wasn't. Went to Control Panel Programs to uninstall/repair programs, but got message that programs seemed to be already uninstalled...it was like the programs weren't even recognized. Once in awhile when I clicked on IE8 in Windows Explorer (not via desktop shortcut or Start menu), IE8 actually opened, so I downloaded Hijack This and Avast anti-virus, but when I tried to install them, I got the msg: "Installation must be on a local hard drive." Continued to get the "iaStor.sys" BSOD. I read to run Verifier and disable it, so I tried that (not sure if that made things worse).

Tried to do another System Image Recovery, but this time it couldn't recognize the backup on the ext HD. Tried Startup Repair, and it couldn't complete repair. Went to Recovery Management to reset the OS, but my User ID(?) couldn't be found. Decided to do a Factory Install - during "Setup is preparing your computer for first use" I got the error msg: "The computer restarted unexpectedly or encountered an unexpected error. Windows installation cannot proceed. To install Windows, click 'OK' to restart the computer, and then restart the installation." Every time I try to restart it, I get the same error msg.

Disk Boot Failure, Insert System Disk And Press Enter

Oct 13, 2010

I've been having this error even after reformatting and reinstalling Windows 7 on my desktop. I've done reformatting / reinstalling Windows 7 several times, yet the problem still occurs. I'm thinking of my HDD as being corrupted or messed up. The problem occurred after I accidentally hit the CPU when I was stretching my foot. The screen froze after that. Upon rebooting it, 'Disk boot failure, Insert system disk and press enter' occurs. After I entered the DVD installer of Windows 7, the screen just hangs.

Uninstalled The Marvell 61xx RAID Controller In The Device Manager But No Change?

Apr 9, 2011

I am using an Asus P6T Deluxe V2 motherboard and Windows 7 Professional. I am having a problem with my external (esata) disk drive being recognized by the OS. It used to work and now it don't?? During boot up I see the drive in the bios messages on my screen. Also when I look in device manager it shows the drive and says this device is working properly. However, when I click on "computer" its not there and no software program such as backup finds the drive either. I have tried uninstalling the drive in device manager and then rebooting. No luck? I am not sure when it quit working or why. Its not the drive as I have tried more than one and they are recognized when used in the USB port. I have uninstalled the Marvell 61xx RAID controller in the device manager also but no change?

1TB WD USB Hard Drive Failure / Is In Device Manager Not Initialized

Oct 6, 2011

I was normally using my computer, when I suddenly noticed one of my hard drives disappeared from My Computer. Checked the Device Manager, I get the following. Trying to initialize it throws up this error: Seems to spin just fine. Trying different USB ports failed, switching cables as well. Already tried a few programs. GetDataBack for NTFS throws up error 1117. R-Studio also fails, as does DMDE and MTY. My friend even borrowed me Microsoft DaRT (part of MDOP), but when I boot into it, it doesn't recognize the HDD at all, no matter how hard I try. Only my Windows 7 installation does.Anything I can do in this situation? I had a lot of important data on it, and it's not completely dead yet. Maybe I can still save it somehow, without haivng to pay one of those data recovery thieves...

Initialize Disk Failed Logical Disk Manager?

Mar 10, 2012

One of the hard disks suddenly failed to initialized. The first problem I found on this disk was unable to open one of the zip files then the machine crashed. After I restarted the machine the HDD drive was missing from the Computer. My computer has 6 hard drives including the missing one. One is Corsair SSD for the OS and the rest are Samsung, Hitachi and WD all of them are 1TB. When I checked on the Device Manager the Drive is there and the device status is properly working. I checked on the Disk Management and I got a message to Initialize the Disk then I followed the instruction. Again I got an error message " Virtual Disk Manager - The system cannot find the file specified." On the Disk Management windows the status of the Disk is "Unknown 931.51GB Not Initialized- Unallocated". I tried to initialize but the same error I got. I did not name this drive but it named automatically RV 01 and the Location is 0.I use Acronis Disk Director to fix the problem but it cannot change the status to online. What I did last week was I installed some programs to the Drive X instead of Drive C.My computer OS is Windows 7 64bits all the drivers and software are updated.

Windows 7 Disk Boot Failure?

Jan 16, 2013

I am running Windows 7 32 Bit Home Premium, and at random times the PC will shut down and come up with the BSOD. After I try to boot up the computer I get a message saying 'Disk Boot Failure Insert system disk and press enter. Most of the time the only way I can get it to boot up is if I open up the case and disconnect the hard disk and dvd drive and reconnect them. On the initial screen after pressing the power button, it'll take a while before it detects IDE drives. If I don't disconnect/reconnect them, then at the initial screen it will sit at that screen and will not detect any disk/dvd drive.Does anybody know a proper solution without having to disconnect and reconnect the hard disk/dvd drive as I think that this may not be a good idea?

Disk Boot Failure On Windows 7 X64, X86 Is OK

Apr 7, 2012

I have a "DISK BOOT FAILURE" error during startup. I just installed Ultimate x64 and now this error appears. It was OK on Ultimate x86.

I detached all hard drives and USB devices except system disk and DVD ROM and still error appears. I booted from installation disk and ran repair and still error appears. I booted again from installation disk and ran next cmd:

bcdedit /export C:BCD_Backup
c:
cd boot
attrib bcd -s -h -r
ren c:ootcd bcd.old
bootrec /RebuildBcd

and still error appears.

The only way to run Windows 7 is to insert installation disk to DVD, wait until message "Press any key to run from cd or dvd", DO NOT press any key and wait. In a few seconds Windows 7 starts.

I manually closed my computer and opened it again, and the computer started up normally as well again.

"Disk Boot Failure Insert System Disk And And Press Enter"

Jan 24, 2012

I want to do a 'custom' reinstall on my C: drive. It's clogged with unused programs and it runs very slow.I set the BOIS to boot from HD and CD; neither worked. I purchased a new HD and may want to install it as my C: drive.I set the BOIS to boot from CD; still I get the dreaded message:"Disk boot failure insert system disk and and press enter"I recently installed a new mother board due to the fact it was defective, not as an upgrade. To make it clear I already had Win7 Ultimate installed. On my first attempt to perform #1 I got to the question of which install did I want; I clicked 'custom'. From then on nothing happened, and now I keep getting "THE DREADED MESSAGE".I put my win7 disk in another OSXP computer and it displayed, "This disk is not compatible with this system" so I assumed my disc was not corrupt.I bought my win7 disk legally on line a couple of years ago, and I have used it once. Will that be the problem? I never got to the "License key" so I don't see how it could be?

Intel Core i5-2500K Sandy Bridge 3.3GHz

Covert Single Disk To RAID And Vice Versa

Feb 1, 2012

1)You have two hard drives in your PC. Drive A contains Windows installation and other files. Drive B is an empty drive. Your Motherboard supports RAID 1(additionally 0 and 5) and you want to setup hardware RAID 1. Is it possible to switch HDD to RAID mode, enter RAID BIOS, create array using drive A, copy drive B content to drive A and run RAID 1 using two drives(drive A should rebuild array on next restart and copy mirror drive A on drive B)

2)You have two drives, drive A and drive B running in hardware RAID 1. You need to format drive B, copy drive A's content oto drive B(which should be non-raid drive now) and install non-raid drive B on another PC.

3)You have three drive A, B, C. Drive C contains Windows and other files. You need to setup RAID 1 using drive A and B and then copy Windows from drive C to newly created array consisting of drive A and B.

All three scenarios require no Windows re-installation.

Cannot Assign Drive Letter In Windows 7 Disk Manager

Jun 14, 2012

I was asked by a client to get data off a circa 2004 PC that has a blown Power Supply. I removed the HDD and proceeded with my usual recovery procedure using a drive adapter cable and power supply. The problem is that I can see the drive in the Win7 Disk Manager, but I can't mount the partition. Most of the time I've not had problems with Win7. It usually just recognizes the drive and assigns a letter to the active primary partition. In this case, I can see the partition, it's active and healthy, but I can't assign it a letter. In fact, all options are "greyed out" except "Delete Partition."I've also used MiniTool Partition Wizard, but without success. Partition Wizard can assign a letter to the partition, which then shows up in Windows Explorer. If you click on the drive letter, you get the "J:\ refers to a location that is unavailable ...." I can explore the partition with Partition Wizard, but I'm unable to access the files.

Here are the Hardware particulars:Old HDD: 80GB Maxtor HDD ATA, formatted with 76GB primary partition, Active, NTFS, This was the boot drive for a PC I'm using Win7 x64. The drive is connected to my machine using a SATA/IDE Combo Drive adapter connected to a USB port on my machine. It uses the standard USB to SATA Serial Bridge Driver.

Boot Disk Failure?

Jan 11, 2013

Running Windows 7 Home Premium. For three days now I have seen nothing but the error Boot Disk Failure when trying to boot up.. I can overcome it by putting the IOS 7 disk in the DVD CD drive and let it boot so that I can then run the repair on the computer. I borrowed an OS 7 install disk and the same thing happens. After a series of checking the system I am informed that nothing wrong was found. If I leave the disk in the drive, even through rebooting, the machine runs just fine. If I take the disk out of the drive, I am dead in the water until I put it back in the drive, reboot and let the tests start over again and all is fine.
