What does this mean?
I am currently using windows 7 ultimate x64. I was in the middle of a process restoring my computer to a few days back and suddenly it froze. I did a power shut down and when I turned it back on, I wasn't able to get back into windows. I was brought to startup repair and it gave me errors. 'Boot manager failed to find OS loader'. There was options for restoring, but all my restore points were gone. Recovery wasn't able to find image backup.
"Startup repair cannot repair this computer automatically". I was told to go into safe mode to restore, but whenever I enter safe mode, startup repair would take over and shows the same errors, also I read a tutorial using a repair disc ( made a copy of it on someone elses ultimate x64 computer) and I get the 0x00000e9 error if i boot from disc. What can I do? As of now I don't have the installation disc with me. I wont be able to get hold of it until tomorrow. There's a lot of important files in that hard drive and I really cant lose any.

Restarted the computer and it wouldn't start up again, came up with a bunch of errors. So I reformatted and it says "windowssystem32driverwdf0100.sdf is corrupt or missing." I've tried system repair but it won't work. It won't open command prompt or anything.

I have an Macbook Pro with an Intel processor, which I have partitioned as a dual boot and have Windows 7 Ultimate X64 installed. This setup has ran fine until last week. I installed an old Guitar DVD course, and the default video player was Windows Media Player. For some reason the videos would only play sound but no video. The videos would play fine if I went to the folders and used a different media player, but within the lessons software it by default used Windows Media player. I tried updating all the codecs to play avi files but with no luck. I read where it was a known issue with WMP 12, and rolling back to WMP11 usually solved the issue. I found an older version of WMP 11, but I think it was infected with malware, and I was caught in an infinite boot loop where Windows wouldfind a problem, try to repair it, and couldn't, and reboot only to keep doing that over and over. I ran /fixmbr and /fixboot and managed to get out of the boot loop, but now I keep getting an error "Windows is unable to start due to a missing or corrupt file WindowsSysWOW64DriversSZKG64.sys From researching some it seems to be a driver from an antivirusspyware program I have installed called StopZilla. I've looked everywhere for some way to get past this but can't seem to find a solution. Also I have ran three different rescue cd's and nothing has shown up.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have an issue which I need resolved. My hard drive had about 5 different partitions, one for Win7 x86, Win7 x64, Misc, Encrypted Data and Virtual Machines. The Encrypted Data partition was secured with BitLocker - The OS-partitions was _not_ secured with BitLocker. Now what happened was that I had to run the startup repair utility on my Win7 x64 installation and this completely messed up things for me. I have lost the Encrypted Data and Virtual Machine-partition.
I do not care about the VMs, but the Data contains vital information which I have not backed up yet. On top of losing the two partitions, a new partition called HP_tools re-appeared. This partition was removed when I scratched the OEM-installation approx. a year ago. I urgently need to recover this Data-partition. I do have unallocated space (between other partitions) on my hard drive, but none at the exact size of my encrypted partition.

I am trying to completely wipe this laptop off and start fresh. The recovery partition has been removed as part of my search for a resolution for the problem. When I try to install windows 7 on this machine I start by selecting to format the entire hard drive. It completes this and then starts the installation of windows 7. It take a very long time for windows to unpack the files and copy them to disc. After about an hour and a half it starts asking me for the User name/location/time settings, etc.
After that it reboots to startup windows for the first time. It immediately tells me that windows cannot start and startup repair will need to be run or I can select to ignore this and try to start normally. Either option yields no improvement. After working with each of those options I just decided to reformat the drive and start the install again. Even after the drive was wiped and fully formatted I get the same error once the windows installation finishes.
When I start my computer I receive a message that says "Windows Boot Manager: The boot selection failed because a required device is inaccessible.: When I try to use the Windows 7 Recovery Disk to repair the computer I get a blue screen of death. I have a reburbished Dell GX620 that currently runs Windows 7 that I believe orginally had Windows XP.
View 4 Replies View RelatedIt's my daughter's computer. A little e-Machine, 250G HD, Windows 7 32-bit on it. Out of nowhere her computer wouldn't boot up. I can get it to try to boot using the Windows disk, it gets so far, and then the repair fails saying:
The file or directory C:/Boot is corrupt and unreadable. Please run chkdsk utility.
I try to re-install. she had backed up everything on my external just days before. It gets near the end, and then the same error comes up. I cannot get into anything else. Nothing else will load. I don't even know how I can run chkdsk. Unfortunately the computer is about three years old and she can't remember the specifics except there is only one HD in it. She had no internet at her place so it's not because she suddenly installed something. She was using it to watch movies and listen to music mostly. I'm at wits' end, can't figure it out.
I just recently performed a clean install from Vista 64bit to Windows 7. I have two internal drives Local (C: ) and (F: ). I made sure I installed Windows 7 on my local (C: ). Everything installed fine and I got Windows 7 to work.
The problem is when I restart my computer, I get the "Bootmgr is missing". I am only able to get to my desktop if I have my DVD set to top boot device in my BIOS, AND if I have the Windows 7 dvd in it.
I searched everywhere for a solution and it seems like the way to fix this is to boot from Windows 7 and do a startup repair. I did this, but I am still getting the exact same problem.
When I am on the system recovery window , I noticed it shows my (D: ) drive (even though it is set to (C: ) but it shows the same size of my (C: ) drive.
How Do I fix this?
I've also tried the command prompt trick on here to no avail either. Strangely, whenever the Windows CD is in my CD-ROM, it starts up fine and works. However, I will go to work and come back after having left it on and it will be back to the BOOTMGR is missing screen inevitably by the time I get back, so I don't know long it stays working with the windows 7 CD in. Would a clean re-install of windows 7 do it? I would prefer not to but it isn't out of the question. I am something of a computer novice, but as best as I can tell, I have a Corsair SSD with windows installed on it, and a separate regular old HDD from Seagate for storage of media.

I'm familiar with the process for resurrecting XP, but not its counterpart for Windows 7 the files and steps for doing this are rather different. it would seem that pretty much everything else is in place on the hard disk, but certain recovery programs report "0" Windows installations when Win 7 is still in place where it was before the disk problem, e.g. it is available to be selected by the main recovery/startup program...this prog can "see" it, but can't access/boot it.I can breathe some life into this anaesthetised device sooner rather than later...I may as well work my way through the whole lot rather than using a trial and error method that might take a long time.

have a Toshiba Satellite A505-S6980 Windows 7 Home Edition Premium Edition laptop. I recently tried to dual boot with Windows XP Professional service pack 3 iso cd. I partitioned my primary windows 7 drive and installed the windows xp on the smaller partition. View 14 Replies View RelatedI have an Acer Aspire one. It came with XP and I have it dual booting into Windows 7 which is working well which I installed from a USB Drive as this model doesnt have a CD Drive.
In the main boot screen it says "Earlier version of Windows" For XP and "Windows 7" for windows 7. All was working well until yesterday...
Now I can't boot into "Earlier version of Windows" i.e. XP. It gives me the C:\windows\system32\config\system is missing or corrupt message. I can boot into Windows 7 fine but all of my work stuff is on the XP platform (I know I can access the files from "7" but I need to get it operational again).
Any ideas? Can I do a repair from the USB Drive?..I've tried a couple of things to boot from the USB Drive but to no avail. And I can't find the BOOT.INI file from XP (I think it gets moved to Windows 7's hidden boot partition when I installed it. I cant seem to access that partition either).
Ok. So when i installed Windows 7 i also had the evaluation copy of Windows 7 on another drive. Everytime i boot the computer it asked me which copy of windows i want to boot to. I erased that driver so i could get rid of that problem but its still there. Even if i try to boot into that drive it errors out and restarts. I want to boot my computer and it boot strait to my ONLY os.

I installed Windows 7 over XP, so I was not expecting that every time I now turn on Windows 7 computer I always get the windows boot manager and have to choose Windows 7 to continue booting up. Is there a way to fix that so it does not come up anymore and just starts up on its own. I realize that even if I do not click it, it is already highlighted and will start up on its own after the countdown is done, but I was wanting to know if there was a way to fix that altogether.
Should also mention that on msconfig and boot menu, the only one listed is the Windows 7 OS system and is default.
When receiving this message on boot up attempt running windows 7 home premium on a dell 1545 laptop with a fresh install and new hard drive would the problem be hardware related or software? Any chance it could be hardware related to the motherboard or is it most likely software related to the OS install?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI use XP on my machine with two 300 GB HDs configured as RAID1 (Nvidia NForce 570 SLI). There are two partitions C (100 GB) for system and D (remaining 200 GB) for data. All is working fine.
Now I try to install Windows 7. First I resized D by 100 GB and installed Windows 7 on this new partition. I updated the Nvidia NForce RAID driver and can see correctly my RAID under Windows 7.
My problem now is that if I start my computer always the old XP boots up.
The Boot Manager is not present. The only way I can boot Windows 7 is to insert the
Windows 7 installation DVD (and not pressing any key) then Windows 7 is booting.
The boot manager is present but only on this new Windows 7 partition. I already tried (using EasyBCD under Windows 7) to add the old XP as a second entry in the Boot Manager but I was not able to boot XP using the boot manager.
I see the XP-Partition under Windows 7 and vice versa but it seems to be impossible to use the boot manager.
How can I install the Windows 7 Boot Manager on my XP-partition, thus I will be able to
choose whether to boot XP or Windows 7.
My laptop is msi laptop a msi fx420 It says BOOTMGR is missing .Before it happens I changed the active partition from the hidden partition to SYSTEM.I can't reformat it because there is no boot menu where i can change the boot priority.

I was told by a professional that my registry was likely corrupted and that my best bet would be to re-install Windows entirely. I was hoping it wouldn't come to that, but was prepared nonetheless.So I inserted the installation disk, and wouldn't you know it, the installer wouldn't recognize my hard drive (BIOS recognizes it though). Searching for reasons why this was happening only turned up people saying to make sure it was recognized by BIOS, which I considered a no brainier. When it still didn't work for people in certain threads, they were told to try wiping their hard drives. I've done it. Windows still doesn't want to notice my hard drive.After that, I decided to try and install Windows to an external hard drive. I know this isn't how Windows was designed, and I knew it wasn't how Windows was meant to be used, but I was (to my knowledge) out of other options (Also, the external hard drive has 1 TB of space on it, so I wasn't concerned about speed loss). So, I searched for ways to do that, and I came across PWboot. The first half of the installation worked, the second half did not. I began getting an error that read (bootmgr is missing press ctrlalt+delete to reboot.) Which I did. But that didn't fix anything. So I tried the entire process again, and it didn't work.The "Repair your computer" feature in the windows install disk turned up nothing as well. I can't "Factory Reset" because it can't detect any installation of windows, the startup repair function can't "repair this computer automatically", and none of the other options will even open (with the exception of the command prompt, but most of the commands aren't valid for some reason.)

The pc is about a month or so old, and I'm thinking it could be a hardware issue, hard drive?
Two things I am going to try when I get there is a WD Diagnostics on the Hard drive, and the sfc
I've been having trouble trying to get my computer to boot; I'd noticed a drop in performance (still unsure why) so decided to boot up in safe mode and poke around - it was not my original intention to install AC 5.3.0 but somehow it happened. I ran the 'deep-care' utility and everything was working fine, my computer rebooted and performed a disk check: there weren't any errors that I can remember apart from [something along the lines of] 60 reparse files. Following this my computer restarted and Windows failed to load, restarting to show me startup repair - this isn't the first time this has happened, a similar thing occurred following previous attempts at boosting speed, though before I was able to get Windows up and running using an Ubuntu installation disk... still don't understand why - no need to say that it didn't work this time. Startup repair refuses to work and my system restore points have vanished; I would try doing a repair install if I had a copy of the disk. I built the computer myself a few months back, borrowing a Windows 7 installation disk from a friend (who has now conveniently lost said disk), startup repair does tell me something about 'Problem Signatures'. Normally this problem was resolved by a simple restart but tonight about an hour before I posted this, the blue screen sent me back to startup but instead of giving me the usual "Security mode" and Regular Startup. It gave me Startup Repair and normal startup. After clicking normal startup just to see if it would correct itself like normal,my pc instantly BSOD'd, bringing me back to my two options. I've been sitting here staring at the startup repair screen for about an hour now.

It boots to startup repair and does a short scan then finally says it was unable to help will either shut down, restart or scan again. I've DL'd a vista repair to restore but it doesn't have any restore points and I was able to get onto a DE language linux version of my computer but haven't been able to fix it there, partly cus i cant read most of what im seeing.

I am definitely goin to explain it in detail but dis is basic problem nd plz dont mind typing coz m typing fast on iphone which may cause errors in typing!Yesterday,i used my pc for 7-8 hrs continuosly which is not big deal but due to it i can't figure out my action which caused problem. I kept it on for downloading at night nd when in morning i got boot screen which comes when pc is directly turned off. My OS is Windows 7 Ultimate x64 and its boot by vhd.
One day, it failed to go to Windows and stuck at Startup Repair. I think it was caused by invalid driver.
But anyway, my concern is the Startup repair is unable to repair a Windows that is installed in a vhd. Then what should I gonna to do?
