Windows 7 Can't Get Rid Of Blank Page Covering Desktop
Jun 16, 2011
when I start my computer I have my desk top front page then after 2 minutes it dissapears and and I get a blank screen I have to hit F1 key or gwt windows task bar on to see my desktop. If I download I and put my curser on the download my desk top is there but when I take it off I just get this blank screen. How can I get rid of the blank page covering my desk top.
I have a windows 7 32 bit and for some reason it wont load. Its just stuck on the windows logo and nothing happens. I tried going into Safe Mode, and all the other F8 options but nothing works. So I read a little online and they suggested I repair the windows with my CD which I got when I bought the laptop. So I inserted the CD and I clicked on the repair button. Now I get a blank page with nothing on it... No repair stuff.
Windows screen opens and immediately goes to white blank page and a few seconds later says Programme cannot display the webpage. I hadnt tried opening a web page or anything else. Eventually I get a Microsoft Security Essential messages asking if the following file path is malicious CWindowsuvwkviej.exe It then says restart required which I do but this doesnt solve the problem.
I downloaded from the HP site the drivers for the HP 6480 printer for Window 7. However the printer does not print. When I try a test page, it comes through the printer, but no print is on the page. The window on the printer shows what looks like two ? Marks above the two icons that looks like tear drops. I can't get rid of the ?.
Clicking on the tab next to the open window tab brings up a blank page.
Went to Internet Options - Tabs - Settings - When a new tab is opened, open: (Selected) Your first home page - OK - OK. No joy.
Followed the advice of an HP employee apropos the problem but when I got to the Right click Tabs; no 'Tabs' was visible anywhere and got into a serious bog-hole during the search.
I am Opening IE9.I made the settings to open a New tab in same window whenever i click the web link in that opened window.Just i am trying to click any web link. The New tab is opening But it displays Nothing(Blank Page).
I,m using w7 64 bit. On about half of the web sites I go to if I click on a link I get a blank page. I reset everything to default settings but no joy. I remember reading about this in the past and it is a windows setting but I forget which.
As of today I have been unable to download anything, when I go to download the page just goes blank and says loading, that is in googlechrome, in explorer I get to the download and it just does nothing, so I thought I would take of my AVG free and try a different antivirus (Avast) from C-net and filehippo, fool that I am, I can not down load either of them, so at present I do not even have antivirus on here,I have restored my pc.I have scanned my pc for problems emptied history and cache.rebooted my router.
I just received a new laptop running Windows 7 32 bit. Whenever I click on a link from a website in IE 9, it just opens up a new tab to a blank page. Tried it on another Windows 7 system and it worked fine. Other browsers works fine as well so looks like it is just limited to my IE 9 being corrupted somehow. I tried re-registering some dlls Microsoft site recommended but that did not work. I also tried resetting all settings but that had no effect either.
I used to immediately get the Google homepage when I clicked the home or new tab button, but now I get a blank page, and the url says about.blank. How can I go back to getting the Google homepage? I've tried the Tools > Internet Options thing, but it won't keep working.
So if I search in my internet browser, I get a blank page. The weird thing is if I restart the computer, it is works fine. If I leave it for an hour and come back, everything is rejected and I just get a blank page.
Running Windows 7 o/s. Internet Explorer now loads a "Blank Page". Have removed several malware which highjacked IE. Used Malwarebytes, CCleaner, Revouninstaller programs. Believed to have cleaned Registry correctly.
I have installed Word 2007, the problem I have is that when I want to type something the blank page always appears to the left of my screen. This is frustrating me as I like to type with the page in the middle of the screen.
A new window opened in Internet Explorer displays a blank white page. I tried all these fixes:
- Windows updates (Win 7sp1 and IE9.0.9) A new window opened in Internet Explorer displays a blank white page - Microsoft Fix it 50191 - Re-register the DLL Nothing happens when you click a link in Internet Explorer - Check your default web browser setting - Change the file types that Internet Explorer opens by default - Use the Internet Explorer No Add-ons mode - Reset Internet Explorer settings - Reregister the necessary Internet Explorer DLL files - Use System Restore
The problem remains unsolved. Everything else runs fast and perfectly on my computer, included Mozilla Firefox. However I don't like when something doesn't run very well.
Yesterday I was browsing the web on Yahoo search like I always do. And I was searching for a well known social web hosting forum. That I was visiting two weeks ago and had no problems getting onto that site then. I will not tell you the link as I do not want anyone else to click on it, as it is not safe. But I clicked on the link from Yahoo search engine but instead of putting me onto the website. I was redirected to a blank page, that said I have got viruses and it needed to scan my computer. And it just closed my web browser, without warning, and started scanning.I tried to stop it but I could not, so I quickly shut down my computer as this brings everything on my computer to a halt. And then I turned my computer back on again everything seemed normal. But I did a scan with Windows Defender and MRT-Malicious Software removal tool, just in case. And it never found any viruses or malware. And using system restore to put my computer back in time to BEFORE the event happened helped,I think.
But when I went round to two of my friends house, the same thing happened to them on their computer. When they tried to go onto that website. And I tried some computers in the Internet cafe. And the same thing happened,so it was not just my computer. But am I right in that the website I visited was trying to install, spyware,a virus or malware on my computer and someone elses computer as well?As I explain the website is a well known and genuine website that I have visited in the past, well two weeks ago in fact. But now it redirects to that page which seems IS trying to install spyware on an unsuspecting persons computer. And it is not just my computer was trying to do it on.So am I right was it spyware or a computer virus, that, that redirect was trying to install on my computer? And if so is there anything we can do about it?As I reported the website link to Google and Yahoo and they have not taken it off of the search engine.
I got some serious problems. About one week ago I accidentally cut off power of my pc while he was updating. When rebooting I got nothing but a blank desktop image, unable to give any input (mouse, keyboard, control + shift + delete). Control + shift + delete made the screen go black, so I assume this was my computer "loggng off" (enter caused the blank desktop screen to appear again).
Normally I fix my computer problems myself, so I started to reboot in safe mode. This worked without flaws, I could start the system repair and startup repair. This however, made no changes (still got the blank desktop screen on booting windows in normal mode).
Then I decided to reinstall Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit entirely (on my ssd). There where a few problems (original installation cd wasn't recognized), but in the end (with someone elses cd), I got it running. I decided to start installing my motherboarddrivers (LAN, onboard VGA, ...). All went well. Then I installed the VGA drivers of my dedicated nVidia GTX 570, and there it went wrong; upon restart: same blank desktop. This time I had some input: I could right click on desktop, make new folders, go into configuration manager. But no cmd, no task manager, no msconfig, ...

So, I thought: my VGA card broke down; and I tried another one (nVidia 9800GTX). Same problems.Fresh installation, now on a conventional 750GB HDD. Again: all went well, even installing the VGA drivers (note: I didn't install the mobo drivers by then). So I though: it's my ssd that broke down. Then I tried to install Windows 7 on my SSD again; runned like a charm. I first installed my nVidia drivers, then my mobo drivers and we're back at the blank desktop again. So: my last option was: clean install; VGA drivers, and only LAN-drivers (not internal VGA drivers for my mobo). This went well. So I thought it was all settled. I started doing Windows Update, and this is where it went wrong again: during Windows Update, my desktop went blank again (in the background). Now I really don't know what to do further. One of the error codes I got was: 80246005. I tried the catroot2 fix when I was still able to use CMD next time I installed Windows, but upon doing the updates, I got the blank screen again. Another note: upon booting, I am unable to go into safe mode: when using the arrow keys, nothing happens for some seconds, then suddenly, it jumps a few places (the amount of times I used the arrow keys), but then the counter is gone and enter doesnt work. To summarize:
- Windows Update doing really weird
- Driver conflict?
- I don't think my graphical card/hard disk broke down?
Update 1: Sometimes, when trying to reinstall Windows, I get a 0x80300024 error code, even though I just formatted and removed the hard drive.
my windows7 x64 will not boot completely. I get the welcome screen, with a continuous whirling circle or, sometimes, i get to the desktop, but no icons or task bar. I can't get any response from control/alt/delete to get to task manager. I have easy access to safe mode, and everything there seems normal. I have run AVAST, Malwarebytes, and a couple of other antivirus programs from safe mode, with no virus or malware identified. I have read every post in as many tech sites as I can find, and nothing seems to work. I have already tried going back to earlier restores, and am out of them.
I need to backup all my work files and reinstall Windows 7, I guess. I'm concerned that I will not have the drivers I need when I do that. I have a backup Macrium system image, but it's a year old, the external drive it's on clicks like crazy, indicating it's going bad, and I've got a LOT of work on my machine I don't want to lose. I've already beaten myself severly with a rubber hose for putting off backups and restore disks, so save that...
I have the lower right side of my desk top covered with a blank white page. It is about half way down to the right of bottom of the desktop. How can I remove it?
Recently, about every 1 in 3 or 4 times that I boot up my computer, Windows (7 Ultimate, no SP1) goes through the normal startup screen, but upon arriving at the desktop, no icons/Explorer/taskbar appear, nor does the cursor- it's almost completely frozen, just showing the desktop background. The only response I can get is via Ctrl+Alt+Del, which just brings me to a black screen, and Esc brings me back to the blank desktop, that's it. I don't have to hard reset to shutdown, if I just press the power button once, the desktop will fade to black (like a normal shutdown), and just turn off correctly (no unexpected shutdown messages or Kernel Power errors) after a while. It seems to be occurring increasingly often.I have not seen the problem occur in safe mode- however, because the problem does not occur every time, it could just be that I've only booted in safe mode on occasions when it wasn't going to do it.Looking at Event Viewer, the most consistent error I get in relation to this is WMI Event 10:
"Event filter with query "SELECT * FROM __InstanceModificationEvent WITHIN 60 WHERE TargetInstance ISA "Win32_Processor" AND TargetInstance.LoadPercentage > 99" could not be reactivated in namespace "//./root/CIMV2" because of error 0x80041003. Events cannot be delivered through this filter until the problem is corrected."Now, for this error, obviously the online help for that event suggests that the fix is to update permanent event subscriptions with the WMI Event Registration tool, but I'm very unfamiliar with WMI and such things, and while I'm sure I could figure it out given time, I'd rather solve this sooner rather than later, and I'm not getting anywhere with that program. Additionally, I ran WMI Diag, which came up with a large number of errors.
Other possibly related errors include:Event 1002 (though this is described as an unimportant, self-fixing error, which I can confirm, but it continually reappears, even though it's being fixed in between): The IP address lease 10.1.1.7 for the Network Card with network address 0x001F337767D6 has been denied by the DHCP server 10.1.1.1 (The DHCP Server sent a DHCPNACK message).Event 7001: The Network List Service service depends on the Network Location Awareness service which failed to start because of the following error: The dependency service or group failed to start.Event 11: The driver detected a controller error on \Device\Harddisk7\DR7.
For some reason all the programes on my desktop icons are blank, this has caused me not being able to open the documents on my compute. get my programes up and running and get the icons back.
When I try to do a clean install of Windows 7 I get the loading files white progress bar you normally get during an installation, it then goes directly to the scrolling progress bar that would normally appear before a Windows startup, and then goes to a blank Windows 7 desktop with only a cursor (that I can move).I have a computer with the following specs:[CODE]I have tried to install with every version I can get my hands on, both 32 and 64 bit. None of them are upgrade versions. I've tried installing on a fresh WD Raptor and an Intel G25 SSD. All other drives have been disconnected. I've moved my memory around and tried with one stick. My mainboard has the latest official BIOS, although there is a new beta.
I ran the Windows 7 compatibility test and didn't see anything that would cause this problem.I have searched the internet and have not been able to find a solution sonstalling Windows XP has never been a problem, just Windows 7, always with the same problem. This is one of the few times when I have not been able to look around a find an existing answer to a problem and I am stumped.
MS Win 7 64 bit New Dell Optiplex 790 System Just installed two weeks ago - very few apps installed and only a few trusted websites have been visited.
Originally set up and installed MS Office, Adobe Reader, and a few other common programs. Installed VMware vSphere Client. Upon using VMWare vSphere Client for the first time, I first noticed the white/blank square in the upper right corner of my desktop. It has been there ever since, even when I have not used any applications after startup.
I'm attaching a snippet of the affected area of the desktop.
Just experiencing some problems with my laptop(acer 7535g)/windows 7. Im not sure where the issue lies but im quite certain its windows 7. Every time I go to do something with my laptop that needs admin permission (e.g. changing screen resolution or installing a program) it doesn't actually ask for permission, it just goes to this plain screen with no task bar, no desktop icons, just the background screen.
I still have the right click function but i cannot use the alt-ctrl-del function as it just goes completely black. The only way out is going to sleep mode and logging in again. Quite annoying and was wondering if anyone else has experienced this and can help.
my laptop got totally affected by different malwares,trojans..etc. So i used avira to scan my system and removed all the viruses it showed...but after rebooting a black desktop appeared with only cursor present and no icons n no wallpapers....cursor only moves no right-click..i did some searching on how to get my desktop screen back...n i tried Ctrl-Alt-Del..then new task n typing explorer.exe....an error mssg shows up saying u dont have permission..
Just upgraded WIndows Vista to Windows 7 from a download. The installation appeared to be fine but all of the icons on the desktop have lost their pictures and none of the start menu icons are showing any design nor do they work. I've tried deleting the icon cache and restarting but that hasn't worked.
