View 2 Replies View RelatedIt's my parents computer out in the living room, a Compaq Presario SR1135CL.
I installed an EVGA GeForce FX5600 Ultra to enable Aero and so that the computer will run at the monitors native resolution of 1366x768. The generics work fine, but then it only supports up to 1024x768 and no Aero.
Once I install the drivers and reboot the computer it goes to a blank screen after running through the boot screen. I ran updates and then tried it again with the same problem.
After a reboot it recommends startup repair, and startup repair reports that the problem cannot be repaired automatically.
I've installed in safe mode and in compatibility mode, almost any possible form of installing the drivers. I've tried doing it via Device Manager and pointing it to the directory that the installer package is extracted to, all with the same result.
It is important that I get this resolved because the computer is used mainly for work purposes and the low resolution of 1024x768 doesn't meet the requirements of the desktop real estate needed.
OS Windows 7 ProOut of the blue, I started noticing that all the desktop icons were going blank, mouse freezing and now when I reboot, it locks up at the AUTO DETECTING USB MASS STORAGE DEVICES

I have checked all the USB things are connected properly, all cables etc. are in but no luck!I can vaguely recall seeing something somewhere during my travels over the PC something about a "media disconnected" and I am sure it was saying something like bigpond.qld.com.au ........... Not 100% sure though.
Earlier I was trying to fix a DCP latency issue and latencymon suggested I update my BIOS. I got the BIOS from Asrock directly. During the update I was given a BSoD and memory dump. The dump froze at 15 and I eventually turned off the computer. Upon rebooting I was unable to get a display.
So far I have reset the cmos, switched between gpu and integrated graphics, removed the gpu and other adaptors, let the computer stay off for 30min; all of which has not worked. When resting the cmos I used both the jumper switch, quick clear, and battery removal.
Dr. Debug shows no errors when starting the computer and it appears to continue cycling boots, despite the lack of error.

the display/monitor uses the generic driver for display and it is 1024×768 or 800x600 but it looks very odd it should be bigger because my screen is bigger. I have a acer monitor but is there something I can download to fix the display size?
View 3 Replies View RelatedWindows 7 64 turns off the monitor 1 signal after startup. At login, it powers off monitor 1 and powers on monitor 2. Windows 7 behaves as though dual display is working even though monitor 1 does not display. It's the same for single display, the monitor will not work on cable 1 except at startup. Both 'Extend these displays' in Windows Screen Resolution and 'Extend' in the Nvidia Control Panel is selected. And changing which one is primary does not turn on monitor 1. Nor does switching the position of display 1 in either (ex.left/right/top/bottom).GeForce 8400 GS; Dual Monitor Solution 59 pin (DMS-59) to 2 VGA adapter -tried two of these adapter cables.atest Driver: 306.23 - installed a clean reset install of the latest Nvidia driver released last week.Same Resolution: 2 of the 4 monitors I have tried have the exact same 'recommended' resolution (1280X 1024), both 60Hz, and even chose 16 bit color for both instead of 32 to reduce resources.
Linux worked: Dual display worked immediately when I tried it in Ubuntu 10. So, it's not the hardware. It works in Ubuntu 12 too but not properly -it won't transfer windows across displays. My Windows 7 64 is an upgrade from Vista 64. One person in another forum with the same problem resolved theirs by reinstalling Windows 7. But another got the same problem only after a fresh clean install of Windows 7 64 with the same GeForce 8400 GS and DMS-59 when it had previously worked in Vista. i am using windows 7 32bit and in my computer properties it said "Installed memory ram: 4.0GB (2.5 gb ram useable)"nd in the resource manageri understand that 32bit OS can only get 3.5GB ram at max but why i only have 2.5GB ram? Does this have anything to do with my VGA 5870 which have 1GB ram?

I'm not sure what's wrong with my computer, and that's a first for me. In Windows 7 whenever I try to visit a webpage through a browser the page will not load. The three browsers I have installed are IE, Chrome, and Firefox. None of them are able to show webpages, but Chrome does give me an error 137. I've already scanned Windows 7 for any viruses, malware, etc., and I've found nothing.
Now the tricky thing is that I'm able to ping websites without any issue, and system updates work fine as well. In Jolicloud and Kubuntu I'm able to surf the web without a problem. I've already scanned Windows 7 for any viruses, malware, etc., and I've found nothing.
I believe the root of the problem is that I incorrectly uninstalled the program Net Nanny, causing it to block all Internet browsing.
I'm having displays issue where either black horizontal lines appear (while in Free-cell viewing photos) when maximized or text and icons are missing from windows such as device manager. In the case of the latter, when moused-over, the graphic or text (which was previously invisible) appears. The video card is an ATI Radeon HD5770 1024 mb GDDR5 PCI-E and both the monitor and computer are about a year old. These problems just started happening out of the blue.Since, I have updated the video card driver numerous times but to no avail.

View 2 Replies View RelatedFor the past few weeks my display has become increasingly yellow hued. At first I thought my monitor was going as its a few years old. However, my game consoles hooked up through HDMI and component display perfect whites. So, I figured there might be a problem with the DVI cable, but that's not it either because any game I play on my PC displays whites correctly as well. Yet, any other application I open with windows displays incredibly dingy yellow/orange tinged whites. My entire desktop, my browser, etc. It looks similar to the effect of F.lux except it is constant. I had F.lux installed before.

View 1 Replies View RelatedWhen I attempt to install my graphics driver (Nvidia Geforce GTX 560) and attempt to reboot my PC it proceeds past the POST screen and onto the "Loading Windows" screen, after the logo appears and finishes loading, instead of it moving on to my login screen it hangs on a blank BLACK screen with just my mouse pointer visible.Regardless of how many times I reboot my PC it always hangs right after the windows logo screen, I have attempted to do restores about 10 times and each time I restore I boots up fine, until I install the display drivers and attempt to restart. It does boot up in safe mode, and works fine on fresh installs.I have tried running the repair tool on the windows 7 disc, and in safe mode with no avail it tells me nothing is wrong. I attempted to run the start up repair and that also says nothing is wrong.
When I go into Device Manager under Display Adapters after I complete a system restore it does say "Nvidia Geforce GTX 560" and that it is working properly. Although it says I need to reboot to complete the update, which must be because this particular working system restore point was created after I installed the driver but before I restarted my pc. The only issue is when I go to restart my pc it hangs on the black screen again. Specs:[CODE]

View 13 Replies View RelatedI'm running Windows 7 and it's all been dandy up until today. Windows has started giving me problems with my user accounts where there were no problems before. There are two accounts on my computer. I have the admin account as I own the computer, the other account is a standard account that my roommate uses. Today I turned the computer on, and on the screen where it would generally show the two icons for the two accounts, it only showed mine in large. Below there was a button saying "switch user", and I clicked on it. Then the screen showed two icons, one of which was mine. The other was blank and simply said 'other user' underneath, where it should have said "Krysta" and shown her chosen icon. I tried clicking on it, and it asked me for account name and password, which I gave, and it then took me to her account. Then I tried to switch back to my own, and the screen now only shows Krystas icon. When I click "switch user" underneath it, I get the same blank icon beside it, and have to enter my account name and passowrd again to get back to my account. So, windows will only display one account at a time, and I'm not sure why.

View 3 Replies View RelatedRecently I got rid of my Windows XP and installed Windows 7. In the beginning I didn't notice any discrepancies and I started filling my computer with useful programs. I was interrupted by a crash that basically makes the screen become dark blue with lines going diagonal. Also what was strange was that when I used button combos such as alt+F4 and ctrl+alt+del it changed color and I could hear background noise the same as when it is running normally. Therefore, to sum it up, my monitor display crashes randomly even upon startup or when I use some programs. As a result I tried the Windows 7 compatibility checker and everything seemed alright.

I just got a new PC with Windows 7 installed and have run into this issue twice, both times with a particular folder - let's call it "UsefulDocuments2" (the actual folder name DOES have a 2 at the end, but there is no folder called "UsefulDocuments").
Sometimes, when I try to view the folder contents using Explorer or through Windows Live Mail (in an attempt to include a file in the folder as an attachment), I can't view the contents of the folder. When I access the folder, it has the proper path listed in the address bar of the window and displays the number of items (171) in the lower left corner. However, the status bar just says "Searching for items..." except I can occasionally see it flicker to say "171 items."
While it is "Searching for items..." (which is 99.9% of the time), it doesn't display any of the contents of the folder. The scrollbar on the side of the window constantly flickers - it's recognizing that there are 171 items in the folder and that the scrollbar is necessary, but then keeps re-searching the folder contents, I guess.
Weirdly, if I change the folder name to, say, "UsefulDocuments" it works fine (at least right now). If I then change it back to "UsefulDocuments2" it reverts to its old behavior. Also, if I open a file in it in Word (2010), I can view and access the contents of the folder without any problem at all.
Obviously, I can just change the folder name, but don't really want to for organizational reasons, and also am just curious as to what's going on and how to fix it should it happen to other folders, etc.
