I eventually fixed it, by adding the Security Center service that was gone, but one issue still remains: the action center system tray icon is greyed out, and impossible to turn back on!
I searched online, and the most common solution I've found was to run the sfc /scannow command. So I did, and for some reason it stops at 69% and after about a minute stuck at that number it says: "Windows Resource Protection could not perform the requested operation" I tried multiple times, but the same error happens every time. How can I fix this error, without re-installing the OS? Or is this only solved that way?
I am using win7. I get the msg backup your files. I start the process and get goes to 25% and sits there for a short while then it goes to 50% and stays there over 10 hrs. I get no other msg or requests for a cd or anything. I have done this for a dozen or so attempts to back up with same results each time.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm running Outlook 2010 with about 5 separate POP 3 accounts. I archive regularly and compact after archiving. After a lot of trouble cloning a new C drive to an SSD, Outlook, along with a lot of other software, began acting strangely. Everything has pretty much been resolved except for the Outlook problem.
For no reason I can isolate, Outlook will suddenly close, giving the message that it had to close and it will now try to retrieve my data. It does so, unless I was in the middle of composing an email - that will be gone! Sometimes, instead of closing, it freezes and says application not responding.
I checked the disk for errors using scan now and it's fine. I've run memtest and it's fine. I've run in safe mode and it just shut down with no comments. In working my way through suggestions on this board, I just ran Sysinternals Process Explorer until the error occurred and went back to normal. In looking at Process Explorer, I'm afraid the actual data is overwhelming to me. However, I'll attach everything I have.
Event Viewer shows Error 1000. General:
Faulting application name: OUTLOOK.EXE, version: 14.0.6126.5003, time stamp: 0x505b1685

I've reinstall my Windows 7. But now i don't know the reason why my CPU always show that 100% CPU, even when starting! I've found that in window task manager there are three processes: cmd.exe, cmd.exe*32 and again, cmd.exe, (I don't run them) and if I end them CPU usage will be normal.

Then I rebooted it regularly and it tells me that, in fact, System Restore worked. Now what do I do? (Besides backup my stuff.) Try to update Windows manually or do I need to do something before that?
View 12 Replies View RelatedI'm having problems with windows media player on windows 7. I've now had 4 fresh installs of 7 since its release (4 too many?) and every time i get the same wmp problem its either wmplayer.exe or the sharing service using 25%. I've disabled the media sharing service and disabled it in services window so it no longer runs, I only have one directory in wmp which is D:music on a separate drive from the OS no image or video libraries. Windows search indexer is also gone due to the total i/o causing a real slow system
All the download media info and other settings are disabled too, windows media player should just literally play my music and no more however this does not seem the case, it is also seems to be permanently trying to update my media library which it has done on all 4 installs too. Iremember having this problem too on XP MCE ? I am not sure if I have left any info out but basically I have tried everything I can so far and WMP will always uses 25% of my cpu even after its closed I usually have to kill the process manually.

I have just recently upgraded my OS to Windows 7 Home Premium x64 from Vista Home Premium x64 using the Toshiba Windows 7 Laptop Upgrade. I've actually had the choice to upgrade ever since I got the disk around two months ago, but only now did I have enough time to spare to upgrade the system. Anyway, after upgrading to Windows 7, I noticed that my system was noticeably slower than usual. I could open several tabs on Chrome while running other programs on Vista and I would barely lag.
Now, I'm having problems only with a few programs running. I also noticed that my CPU usage was stuck at 100% and it's not going down or anything. My laptop isn't as slow as a rock right now, but something should be causing the processors to be at a constant 100%. My RAM usage is normal. 4 Gigs being used at around 50% right now. I'm just worried that maybe some programs that I had with Vista are slowing down the computer, but I was sure to uninstall or update any incompatible software too.
I'm running on a Core 2 Duo T6500 (2.1Ghz) Processor with 4.00 Gb of RAM. My laptop is around six months old right now.
I downloaded windows 8 consumure preview and I wanted to reinstall windows 7 so I get my windows 7 disk and hit reinstall. When it was about 70% done and it freezes then it crashes I turn it back on and a loop hole appears and it saids this message "the computer restarted unexpectedly or encountered an unexpected error. Windows installation cannot proceed. To install windows, click ok to restart the computer, and then restart installation". I hit ok. It restarts and the same message pops up.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI just bought a Toshiba laptop that has Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit installed on it. I have tried several times to install Office 2007 but for whatever reason it gets probably about 70 percent done and then it just hangs. At first I thought it was because the CPU sitting at 80-90 percent even before installing. I found some .NET services that were using up alot of that CPU so I disabled them and tried installing again but I still hung. I am getting no error messages so right now I am at a loss.

The cpu is now stuck at around 15% load and there's constant disk activity too. I run msconfig.exe and disabled programs that I don't really use much, run disk defrag just too make sure the disk was working well. As a result my cpu is running hot (65 degrees) and the battery drains pretty quick.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI backup 100GB of data with Windows Backup and over the time where I do all my backups there is like only 30GB of data which changed from those 100GB and also new files were added. Now my external drive is full. When I now delete the very early backup, the first one where the 100GB of data was saved, will it delete then ALL those 100 GB, or will it just delete the previous versions of the files which were modified AFTER that time, which are in this case the 30GB I talked about? Because otherwhise I would then have in the end an uncomplete, messed up backup.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm using Win 7 Pro and want to schedule several backups to my NAS. With Win XP, I was able to schedule multiple backup jobs, which makes things easier since I have 116 GB of data. I like to backup my documents, email files, etc. every week, but my photos, MP3s, etc. don't change as frequently so once a month is fine for that. Not surprisingly, the media collection takes much longer to backup, which is another reason I try to separate it from my "regular" backup.Unfortunately, Win 7 backup only seems to allow one backup job to be scheduled, which seems awfully limited. Am I missing something? Are there other free backup utilities that would work better, or do I need to shell out some cash?

My computer is running all the time over 50%. AMD 4x, W764, 2x hd 1 tb, ram 8 gb. MS Office, CS5, acrobat, pinnacle, etc. I have Avast and MS Defender. I have made twice online scanning with Fsecure and AVG. I have made weekly scanning with System Mechanic, CCleaner, Adware and Spybot. Nothing serious found ever. This problem came when I changed the system hd (C:) 40 Gb -> 1000 Gb and reinstalled W7. Now the Hd (C:) runs all the time, but what? I stopped all Adobe programs (Photoshop / Acrobat) and this decreased cpu usage to about 40-60%. When only 2 services was running (Avast and CatalystContrCentr) cpu runs still too much 10-30%. I made a repair W7 installation, but nothing better.

View 8 Replies View RelatedSome days ago I noticed after a couple of minutes I start mi PC, my CPU usage goes to a constant 100% , so I checked for viruses and such but MSE gave me nothing and neither Malwarebytes. Here's the weird thing, I checked the Task Manager to see witch process was causing this and it's always a different process (Sometimes MsMpEng.exe, sometimes dwm.exe and even taskmgr.exe itself) so I started killing processes like a maniac leaving just the few essential ones but nothing changed. I also stopped all the services with a delayed start, since the problem starts after a couple of minutes but the problem was still there. My system restore is disabled.
