Sep 18, 2010I am trying to install Windows 7 64 bit on my system and it freezes during expanding files. I searched all forums and information thats available online, tried everything that was listed but no solution yet.
My system is Foxconn P9657AB-8EKRS2H LGA 775 Intel P965 Express ATX Intel Motherboard, Intel Quad Core Processor, 6 GB RAM on 3 slots, I had a 250 GB before this process but i bought a 1 TB 7200 RPM HD thinking that it would solve the problem somehow.
I took out all USB items including mouse & keyboard and using PS2 mouse/kb now. Also took out 2 RAMs leaving only one 2 GB. Now the machine only has the mother board, processor, video card, 2 gb ram, ps2 mouse & keyboard, and the monitors.
I checked BIOS, and i have the latest update. Tried everything on BIOS from setting it to Safe Mode, Disabling all USB ports, Internal Audio Device, and pretty much everything that i found online. Im just yet to flush the BIOS, change DVD drive and install it from a flash drive.

Feb 10, 2013I have a custom built pc, has quad core phenom processor 4gb ram. Gigabyte motherboard 500gb hard drive with windows 8 preview installed. And a formatted 250gb. I'm trying to install windows 7 on the formatted drive but every time off cd hangs on expanding files. So I thought I'd try USB stick. Got a 16gb cruzer blade. Formatted and made bootable. Windows on it. Will start via my computer but whenever I try booting it on standup I get an error about not being digitally signed. I've tried numerous things but will not boot from USB.

Nov 2, 2009I'm trying to upgrade to Windows 7 from Vista Home Premium.
I got the upgrade from DigitalRiver, in 32 bit as suggested by my very techie brother. I run the install, everything seems fine, but it seems to get "hung up" at 48% in the last step (I think it's "Expanding Files?") The cursor still moves, and the ellipses are still progressing, but it doesn't move beyond that. I've tried three times, leaving it overnight for 9+ hours, and nothing beyond 48%!
I have an HP Pavillion dv6000 with Vista Home Premium 32bit, Core2Duo processor, 2GB Ram.

Mar 21, 2010I tried many times to install 7 ultimate but it just freezes at expanding files even the 3 dots freeze i tested my ram and disc for errors but everything is ok i left only 1 ram but nothing i disabled all the peripherals in my mobo but nothing also checked my hdd for errors and its ok aswell..xp and vista install without problems..

Jun 22, 2012I am trying to install windows 7 64 with a new M3A79-T. It keeps freezing at expanding files with error 0x80300001. I figure this might be due to missing sata drivers but when i click load drivers during the installationwindows doesn't recognize anything. I tried with the mobo support dvd and i tried burning drivers from the mobo website and using that dvd. In either case i can browse to the dvd but all the foldersin it are empty, so nothing to install even though the driver are definitely there. when i click on scan

Nov 20, 2012In the beginning of the year I got the infamous malware that infected many PC's worldwide (can't remember the name) and got my action center completely destroyed. I eventually fixed it, by adding the Security Center service that was gone, but one issue still remains: the action center system tray icon is greyed out, and impossible to turn back on!
I searched online, and the most common solution I've found was to run the sfc /scannow command. So I did, and for some reason it stops at 69% and after about a minute stuck at that number it says: "Windows Resource Protection could not perform the requested operation" I tried multiple times, but the same error happens every time. How can I fix this error, without re-installing the OS? Or is this only solved that way?

Oct 4, 2010im having trouble installing windows 7. i burnt the disc and started custom installation, and it copied all the windows files but then it got stuck on expanding windows files. it didnt freeze, it just didnt get past the last 1%. and the worst thing is i cant use the computer with vista anymore, because when i try to boot it up it opens up some kind of system restore that doesn't work. should i just leave the install screen on overnight

I have tried several times to install Office 2007 but for whatever reason it gets probably about 70 percent done and then it just hangs. At first I thought it was because the CPU sitting at 80-90 percent even before installing. I found some .NET services that were using up alot of that CPU so I disabled them and tried installing again but I still hung. I am getting no error messages so right now I am at a loss.

Dec 2, 2012Anyways, I used to have windows 7 installed in my iMac and everything was working fine. Except that one day my Mac partitioned didn't want to boot. So I decided to reformat the drive and reinstall everything. After everything was installed I tried to install windows again except now it gets stuck at expanding windows files. 0% It won't get passed that.
From reading on here I saw someone with a similar issue but it involved his SATA III connections. As you all well know iMacs are pretty hard to even move any hardware around. I haven't touched it so I wanted to know if this might be hardware related. If it is what does it usually involve? Hard drive?

Dec 29, 2009I'm trying to install Windows 7 on my mom's laptop. I got to the custom install and I selected the HDD. I pressed the button for additional options and clicked format.After about 4-5 seconds it said it has been formated (although it seemed a little bit too quickly for me) and I continued to install. It gets to the install screen and shows "Copying Windows Files 0%...". It quickly and somehow, without showing 100% done "skips" the step giving it a tick and moves to expanding the files. Expanding stays on 0% and nothing else. No indication of the DVD reading, no indication of the HDD writing. It just stays like that and...
NOTHING!!! This Windows 7 is from a torrent and the exact same edition is running on my PC, installed just fine. I tried several other CD's and on one of them it just got to the second restart and IT DIDN'T REBOOT! Even after waiting about 10 minutes it just did nothing. I restarted the laptop manually and then the install started from the beginning... Got any ideas what to do??? Please help, this is very VERY important!!!

I ran a chkdsk scan on the drive and unplugged all USB devices and some people said that Windows couldn't find the HDD Controllers so I installed my chipset drivers too but still nothing.I can't really format these partitions(especially C: since I need the XP installation on it to install Win 7)What could be cause of this? Dec 23, 2012I wanted to install a fresh installation of windows 7 on my computer so I decided to load up my boot disc.
1. I deleted my partitions until I had a maximum of 233gb of free space.
2. I created a new partition from the free space. Windows setup suggested to make a primary partition of 100 mb.
3. System created two new partitions. One is primary partition (233 gb), the other is the system partition (100 mb)
4. Proceeded to install windows on the new partition created.
5. Copying windows files went from 0% to 100% instantly
6. Stuck at Expanding windows files at 0%.
7. Restarted my computer to boot up windows to see what's wrong.
8. Windows boot manager is missing, only thing I can do is reinstall windows but I can't
9. Can't do a startup repair cause it fails.
10. Did a cmd command for bootrec.exe /FixMbr and bootrec.exe /Fixboot and both operations are successful. However, still can't load up windows desktop.
Problem: I deleted my partitions and created new ones but I can't install windows onto the partition because the screen is stuck at expanding windows files at 0%. I got an error: 0x80070017. Windows cannot install required files. The file may be corrupt or missing. I also can't load into windows desktop because bootmanager is missing.
Expanding Files Hangs At X%?
Jul 14, 2009Ok I have noticed alot of people have had problems with this myself included, and the answer is almost too simple.The problem I was having was once I got to the expanding files step it would get to 89% within a few minutes. Then it would hang for hours stuck at 89%. I tried restarting the installation 4 times. The first time it only got to 9% and stalled.So on my fourth attempt after watching it hang for a good 2 hours I ejected the installation disk in the middle of installation and popped in another another Windows 7 RC installation disk that I forgot I had just to see what would happen. What happened is it immediately finished expanding from 89% and the installation was complete in about 20 minutes.I should note that the first installation disk I was trying was a Memorex that had just been pulled from a jewel case prior to burning. The second disk I used was a Verbatim that had been burned some time ago and was actually pretty scratched up.Both of the disks where burned using the same .iso downloaded from MSDN using the same burner and ImgBurn as the burning software.

May 10, 2009I have recently decided to try Windows 7 and made the necessary preparations. I am trying to build a dual boot system with the OEM 32bit Vista Home Premium and 64bit Windows 7. My machine is far above the specs and I have 3gb ram. I burned the image twice after reviewing the other posts in the forum. I burned the first on at 8x and after reviewing prev posts I burned again at 4x. Both freeze at the expanding files 0%. The first one would hang for hours until I told it to cancel. The new one hangs for a few minutes and then gives an error that there is a corrupt or missing file.I also read that this may be a result of ACHI but my bios does not allow me to disable.

Oct 2, 2011I have a Toshiba A300-18A laptop, bought in Portugal in 2008. It came pre-installed with Vista and I always left it in place because I couldn't find a proper time to backup everything properly. These holidays, I finally had the time to do that and 2 or 3 weeks ago I installed Win7. I didn't do an upgrade and did the custom install over the previous Vista version. Right after installation, during the first uses, my keyboard froze during an internet session. Simply, no key would work, but I had full control of the computer otherwise. Over the next days I found it happened quite frequently, and it didn't even need to be on internet. The most often place to freeze is in text editors (ConText, TexnicCenter), Excel (I'm using Office 2007), an online MMO and even the login screen, before I can actually access my computer. A restart usually solves the problem temporarily, sometimes I need two restarts in a row.Due to this, I did a reinstall of Win7, this time formatting the C: partition where I was making the installation. So this was a real clean install and I still had the same problems. I thought it would be drivers, so I installed some drivers I downloaded from Toshiba support center and THEN I found out about Toshiba's Win7 installation.Still the same problems. There are more curious things about the keyboard: it usually seems to think ctrl is pressed. I have opened the on-screen keyboard and noticed the ctrl-key depressed. Unpressing this key, thought, does not rehabilitate the keyboard. This ctrl-press must not always be on, thought, because sometimes I notice parallel behaviours and other times I don't. For example, I don't get 'save file' dialogs if I press 'S', but I do see the screen zooming in and out in a web browser if I roll my mouse-wheel. Also, I have some defects in Office (namely Excel) that I think may be related, and this since my first install: sometimes I'm going to Open Excel or Word and it says I have the ctrl key pressed and asks if I want to go through. More commonly I don't get this warning, but inside Excel, the usual shortcuts ctrl-c ctrl-v, ctrl-o (new book, portuguese version) offer me the insert/delete rows dialog. Sometimes ctrl-ins has this behaviour too, other times it works fine while ctrl-c does not. It's all very random.Finally, to complete the problems described in the subject. I've also noticed a behavious I NEVER had before installing Win7. Most often while playing the MMO (but not exclusively there) my screen goes white with some activity going up and down (sort of a mis-tuned TV from the analogical days) and I can only bring it to place changing windows to get my normal desktop. The MMO runs in dedicated full-screen mode and I guess it must be changing resolution. Also frequently (about 40% of the times), when I boot my computer it shows up the wrong resolution (1024x768) and, in the login screen, the little button on the bottom-right that allows one to shut down and restart shows up only these two options when ordinarily it shows 4 to 6 options. During normal use, I often get the video-going-white problem when I tilt the laptop display up and down.In 3 years I never had one single of the symptoms with Vista, now I get them everyday. Problem is that I quite enjoyed Win7 (and I don't like Vista) so I'd like to keep this OS if possible.

Jul 11, 2012I torrented a windows 7 install disc iso. I burned it to a disc but when i tried to install windows 7 it gets to "expanding files" and freezes at 0% . After that i tried using the exact same iso but from a thumb drive, and it worked. I tried the disc on multiple computers and it always sticks at 0% on expanding files. I have also reburned the iso multiple times and it still doesn't work. If i use a jump drive it always works. I know someone is gonna say that its the iso because i got it from a torrent, but the same iso works from a usb drive so it cant be that. I know someone is gonna say it is the optical drive, but i have tried it on 3 different computers with optical drives that i know work but it still sticks at 0% so its not that. Its also is not that i haven't waited long enough because i have left it for multiple hours and it still didn't move from 0%. I suspect that its an little feature in the burning program that i overlooked during the burn process.

Stuck At "Expanding Windows Files" 0%
Oct 24, 2009I can't get past "Expanding Windows files" at 0%, the installer is also very slow. I get stuck at the wallpaper for around at least 5 minutes, and then I hang on "Starting install" for another 5. I've let it sit for around a half hour, and then it gives me an error saying I don't have all the files. Is this CD just DOA? (It's a CD from the software, it isn't a burned ISO etc.)
I'm trying to do a full install of 64-bit from 32-bit Vista.
I would do a USB flash drive, but I have no other computer than this one (other than my netbook) so I can't extract from the CD. I'm in the process of downloading an ISO from a torrent site, though.

Mar 15, 2010I have a computer with windows 7 ultimate.There are some shared folders and printers on this machine. This setup looks to work fine but suddenly the sharing stops. If i reboot the pc, it works again. The pc never goes in some kind of sleep modus.
