I'm not specifying any files, and I've reset backup to its default settings, all to no avail. I'm backing up to an external USB hard drive. View 3 RepliesOk, I've been researching solutions for issues with windows 7 backup for weeks now and have had no luck. My VSS service is running fine, and everything was backing up fine til a short while ago, and has been failing since. I have been backing up to a network share on my file server.
My roommate has been having the same issue for some time now, however he was attempting to do this with an external hard drive. Same error of 0x8100019. I've tried everything I can think of and I've had no leads thus far. Any pointers on this would be helpful.
How do I correct the problem. notebook has never completed the backup?

I want to have a fresh backup file on my computer to use incase anything ever goes wrong and I have to revert to a earlier time. My last backup was back in December and has stopped working since then. I have done a lot to this computer and If I ever have to do a system restore that's the only backup point I could revert to and that's bad. I would loose A LOT of stuff on my PC. Okay so every time I try and run the backup or when it runs on its own I get this error message: The system can not find the file specified. With error code 0x80070002 at the bottom of more information. I'm using a 1TB USB External HDD. Brand is Green Drive. My PC is an HP and is using a motherboard that they shipped it with. The initial pop-up states: The Last Backup Did Not Complete Successfully When I click on the pop-up to check the backup and select �More Details,� I see the following message. The System cannot find the file specified Error Code: 0x80070002 No additional information is provided. (And no clue is provided regarding what �file� is not found.) While I am attempting to backup to an external hard drive connected via eSATA, this error also occurs when I attempt a backup to either an external USB drive or a DVD.
I have attempted to run various backup scenarios wherein [a] Windows selects what to backup, [b] I choose a system image only, [c] I choose libraries only, or [d] I choose a very small data directory in a directory outside of the libraries. I have tried to install this update six times today (07/05/12) after it was flagged as an important update this morning. Looking at my update history it also failed to instal on the 18th October last year but it has not bothered me since and i have not noticed it until now. Of the seven attempts I had the following error codes from earliest to latest : 800B0100, 80246007, 80010108, 8024200D, 8024200D, 8024200D, 8024200D. I have followed advice from MS running KB947821 and FIX IT also disabled my Norton 360 firewalls and auto protect but to no avail. Also I do not have a DVD with Windows 7 as it was not supplied with my PC and I don't want to restore my computer and lose all my installed software.

upgrade my system from Windows XP Pro SP3. The setup starts and gets past creating a user account, setting a computer name etc and then restarts and looks like Windows 7 is going to startup and then I get a BLUE SCREEN OF DEATH with:
STOP: C000021a [Fatal System Error}
The intial session process or system process terminated unexpectedly with a status of 0x00000000 (0xC0000001 0x00100400)
It then mentions about dumping the memory out to disk and reboots. If i press F8 and attempt to boot SAFE MODE I get a requester saying that setup cannot be completed in Safe Mode. If try the startup recovery the first time it says it fixed a problem and wants to restart again but it has fixed nothing. Next time the startup recovery just runs and doesn't appear to finish.
I have run the Windows Memeory Diagnostic within the setup and memory checks out fine. I initially thought the onboad audio chipset was the issue and disabled that but it made no difference. I did get one successful installation but it eventually crashed and burned with the same error after approximately 12 hours.
I get a message that says " Windows skipped backing up system image because one of the critical volumes is not having enough free space. Free up some space by deleting unnecessary files and try again."I am trying to back up to a external HD with 163 GB free out of 232 GB. I have been to windows answers and they have nothing but suggestions that are way over my head. Each moderator has a different solution, it appears that MS is aware of this problem but does not have a cure. How is one supposed to create a backup and restore.

Having now bought a new machine and restored as many files as I can, I have purchased a Seagate Expansion 1TB external drive on which to backup my files (Once bitten, twice shy,)I'm now using Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit with a 500GB hard drive (not much on it at the moment) but when I tried to do my first backup today using the Windows 7 utility the backup aborted at less than half complete giving me the error message: 0x81000033 "Windows Backup skipped backing up system image because one of the critical volumes is not having enough free space. Free up some space by deleting unnecessary files and try again."I've searched on the Net and found that this is by no means an isolated problem and probably involves a partition (whatever that means) that is too small. View 1 Replies View RelatedI have an HP tx2627cl table notebook (swivel screen), Win 7 Home prem OS, 4GB ram and a Seagate ext HD (75GB free of 279GB) which will not allow me to backup. I get error message 0x8007045D because of "an i/o device error". I can copy files to that external HD (I, but can't use Windows Backup. I did a check disk of I:/ and got no errors. When I click on Backup to I:/, it starts, says it is creating a shadow copy, runs for a couple of minutes (about 5-6%) then I get the above error message. I have switched USP ports, and tried doing a backup from a "clean boot state" with the recommended settings--all to no avail.

The funny thing is, I have more than enough space. I have 120 gigs free, with an 81 gig backup.
I cannot back up my computer on either of two external hard drives. In both cases I get an error code 0x81000031. I use windows 7, 32-bit and do not think I have Bitlocker on my machine.

1 Desktop connection via wire to router
2 Laptops connected via Wireless (Linksys wrg54g)
All 3 PC's are visible on all 3 PC's via the Homegroup in Windows Explorer. I can browse/copy/write files on all 3. All sweet. All 3 can print to the 2 Printers connected to the Desktop.
Laptop A is configured to Backup using the Windows 7 Backup to the Desktop. This works fine.
Laptop B however when trying to backup to the desktop I get an error message after I have selected the Drive in the setup screen and I've entered my username/password credentials
The error code is 0x80070043
I've tried everything and I'm quite experienced.
Both laptops for all intents and purposes are identical.
I have been trying to do a backup with system image since Jan 15th on an Iomega 1TB external HD. Tried about 7 times and each time the backup fails at 57%. The message I receive with each failure is as follows- "Windows backup encountered an error when accessing the remote shared file. The semaphore timeout period has expired. Details: Error code 0x81000039" I chatted with a tech from my external HD manufacturer and he finally told me that the problem was with my OS and settings. I tried doing a backup on a different external HD and still failed at 57%. I have no idea which remote shared file the program is looking for. I have a home network and one other computer. That laptop was turned on so if it was looking for a file there it was available. The tech suggested that I turn off my antivirus and firewall and if I was concerned about intrusion to disconnect from the internet. Did that and the backup still failed. I have the same setup on desktop and laptop Windows 7 SP!, Vipre antivirus and firewall, and I was able to do a backup on my laptop. Another slight problem is when I have the Iomega HD running my computer will freeze randomly. For this reason I don't keep it on all the time but just turn on for a monthly backup. I was able to do one initial backup on that HD with no problem. I was told to look at the windows backup log files but they all have a .etl extension and I do not know how to open them to see if the logs give me any idea what file it is hanging up on.

The problem seems to be one my hardware drivers, to make matters worse i cant even back up i just get the error code in the title! I have checked my "system reserved space" which is at 100mb so i have enough memory to back it up. I am them prompted to do a repair when computer restarts which after many minutes brings up the error message 0x80070002. The computer is a self build and has been fine for 3 years but this appears to be a major problem. I cannot afford to lose my files (most are backed up but not all since I only back up every month to an external drive). From the repair screen, I have tried to restore the computer before critical updates were installed (what I feel is causing the problem) but the restore point fails. I cannot enter the desktop and now the startup repair simply hangs.

I clicked the repair box, but it didn't wanna do that.
