Windows 7 Time Synchronization?
Jun 24, 2010
I have just switched from XP to 7 Home Premium and I really like it, however I have a question regarding Time Synchronisation. With XP it always told you when it had last been synchronised, whether the synchronisation was successful or not and the next scheduled synchronisation. With Windows 7, there is no information. I was going to post this thread last night but tried the Update Now button on Internet Time Settings and the information appeared in Date and Time-> Internet Time, (Like it used to in XP), so decided not to post. I have just realised though that if you restart the computer later on, this information disappears. Is there any way to keep this information from disappearing? The only reason I ask is with XP, sometimes it would fail to synchronise, but at least it would inform me so I could try another Internet Time server or manual update.

About a month after I started using it, the Say the Time clock program I bought stopped launching the management menu when I right click the date/time field in the task tray (notification area).
Therefore, I can't use or edit the program. Neither the touchpad nor the cordless mouse works.
Other than this problem, my computer works great. Every single item that's meant to be right clicked works for me.
Is there a way I can generate a log to show the software manufacturer (Provenio) that it's their problem and not mine? I am a novice user but I can follow instructions. However, I don't want to put my computer at risk if I make an entry error.
I've been using computers for 18 years and I've never had this problem until I bought this software and used it for about a month.
I just wanted a conclusive way of putting the ball back in the manufacturer's court.

I spilt some water on my laptop a few days ago but fortunately it's completely dried out and working perfectly.... apart from this minor (but important) issue.
Problem: the system time does not stay correct. Even after manually updating the BIOS time and also even after manually syncing it with the various servers available under the time options.
Fix: set the internet time sync interval to every minute rather than its default setting? How do I do this?
P.S. This couldn't be a CMOS battery issue surely because even when the system is on and plugged in the system time still deviates from correct. (I assume the CMOS battery is only used when the system is powered off.) If I need it replaced, how does that sit with my Dell hardware warranty?

So I bought a new desktop computer about 2 weeks ago and ever since I got it, it's been freezing (locking) up on me at random times. I currently use Windows 7 64-bit. I put in a new graphics card and new memory sticks just the other day and I got the same freezing problem. It's very random. I can be surfing the web and the next thing you know, the whole thing freezes up. I can't move the mouse. Can't do CTRL ALT DEL. Can't do anything. Seems as if the whole computer locks up. The only way to restart the computer is by manually holding in the power button for a few seconds. So since I replaced graphics card and installed new memory, I was thinking it may be something else causing this.

I've changed the setting of maximum processor state on battery from 100% to 50% to save battery. But the setting resets to default 100% time to time. I don't know why this is happening.

Once in a while I find that the time zone moves from GMT to Pacific Time.Has anyone any idea what would cause this, new CMOS battery fitted, which ever time zone shows the time is correct for that zone. Checked the BIOS and that also changes.I dual boot two Win 7 installations.

I have an issue with my P8P67 PRO (Rev 3.1). Mouse but mainly keyboard (both Microsoft) are not detected during the cold boot from time to time, i suspect the BIOS is the one to blame i have the latest version, what can i do?Both are USB.When i turn on the PC from time to time a long beep takes place and a message during posting (no keyboard detected). Sometimes happens sometimes not. PS/2 ports didn't work for me, when im using them NOTHING gets recognized (and yes i turned off the PC before plugging them).

they usally happens in the first couple of boots everyday (heard it is called cold boot error)and lately it happened with me while playing hardcore gamesI tried reinstalling win many times and formating the whole HDD but no use.I think the problem is related to my ram cuz sometimes when I rmove them and put them in the motherboard again the problem is solved for some time and sometimes nothing happens at all, and when I run memtest86 it gave me a hell 3M error one time and the other time it gave me 9 passes and 0 errors have win 7 pro x86 full retail versionI bought this computer more than 4 years ago, II had my motherboard fixed before and changed some ICs in it (I think over restarting the computer due to BSoDs caused it)

Have set the correct time zone, set the date and time, and within half an hour, the time jumps ahead significantly. Time then continues jumping periodically, and date as well. Any patch available for this?

I have a PC (Window 7 Ultimate x64 SP1) with a time keeping problem. When Win7 is running the internal time gets behind 5 seconds every 10 minutes. This is a serious lag. The problem is pretty consistent. The system synchronizes its time every 10 minutes(because it is so inaccurate) with the atomic time servers and every synchronization interval the time is behind 5 seconds with just a few miliseconds variation between synchronization intervals. This is not a hardware problem, because when I boot the same system into XP maintenance partition the time is accurate. Actually, it is a few miliseconds ahead every 10 minutes, so this proves that there is nothing wrong with the motherboard. The problem is in Windows 7. From what I learned the time is kept internally by counting the hardware timer "ticks", so somehow Windows 7 is missing a lot of those ticks, while XP is OK in this respect. This problem happens regardless if W32Time service is running or not.

just upgraded a laptop from Vista to Windows 7, everything works fine except the computer now will only recognize 1 USB at a time, all the ports (3) work, the external hard drive, camera, printer or speakers all work however I can only use 1 device at a time, I just copied a file from my external to a thumb drive, I had to plug in the external, copy the file to my desktop, unplug the external and plug in the thumb drive to copy the file from the desktop, starting to annoy me, I can't print if I'm listening to music, can't listen to music and copy to the external etc etc etc

I am trying to troubleshoot my PS3 controller on Windows 7. I play my games on the TV, so when I turn around it lags a bit.
When running multi-monitor, with the TV the main screen and the laptop as the secondary display, I am running the game on the TV, and on the laptop's screen have the controller properties screen where you can test the game controller and see if its buttons, sticks, ect work. So, with the game running on the TV, and the controller window on the laptop, I navigate through the game with the controller, it works fine, but it doesn't report it on the controller properties windows. It turns out that I have to have that window selected/in-focus for it to report the controller's key presses, or it doesn't work. So what I am asking is, how can I make that window in focus while running the game?

The time on my win 7 x64 ultimate is incorrect. I am in the uk so am on London time. We have recently entered Daylight Saving Time. So the clock should have gone back one hour but it appears to have gone back two! A week ago the time of day now would have been 00:20, the time now should be 23:20 and the time my clock is showing is 22:20. I have looked in control panel > Clock Language Region - and my time zone is set correctly to UTC Dublin Edinburgh Lisbon London as it should be. I try unticking adjust for daylight saving time and click apply but this doesn't even change the time( not even by one hour as it should) it seems to not matter whether it is ticked or unticked, my clock remains an hour behind what the current time actually should be.

The OS on one of my W7 machines doesn't want to keep the correct time and I can't figure out why. The first thing I did was check the BIOS and it keeps the right time. I've gone into date and time and confirmed that the time zone is correct (MST) and even manually set the time several times but it always changes to an incorrect time. I've changed the time sync server to different servers and it has the correct time at first, but inevitably changes within a few minutes to a wrong time. The only thing I can find on google suggest it's the CMOS battery, but it's a new motherboard and the BIOS keeps the correct time, as I've said above. Below is my system specs.

I am still running a Vista computer, and am thinking of moving on to windows 7. Would I be better to buy an OEM licence now, or wait until windows 8 comes out? After using the preview for a couple of days, I am afraid 8 might be another flop. I found the whole metro thing fairly annoying, like a extra bloated start menu, but then I use launchy to launch programs, rarely using the start menu as it is.I also don't want to be stuck with vista for much longer.Do windows 7 OEM licences come with cheap option to upgrade to 8 if it doesn't turn out to be Vista reincarnated? Now that 8 is close, will windows 8 release cause 7 prices to drop as it is an old version? or will prices go up, as there is less distribution?
