Windows 7 64 Bit Installation Seem To Grow Larger With Time?

Dec 22, 2011

After installing a custom version of Windows 7 64 bit SP1, and all my auxiliary software, on a 30 GB partition on my laptop there were 20.0 GB of free space remaining. Now, a little more than six months later, the free space is down to 18.6 GB. Why? Every three or four weeks since I did the install I've followed the same procedure: I update Windows; I update all other programs; I make a new restore point then use "Disk Cleanup" (every option ticked) and "Disk Cleanup/More Options" under "C:/Properties" to free disk space and delete all but the newest Restore Point; I run CCleaner; I do a "System Disk Monthly" defrag using MyDefrag 4.3.1; then I back up the partition using EaseUS ToDo Backup 3.5. For the first about four months after doing the above I was left with 19.9 or 20.0 GB free space, but sometime in the last couple of months--I've been extra busy so I'm not sure exactly when it started--the remaining free space dropped under 19 GB. For the life of me I can't figure out why.

I've added a few new programs since first creating the partition, enough to account for, being very generous, 300-400 MB, but in my mind there are still about 1+ GB of occupied space for which I can't account. Given the above information it seems to me that the only place this extra "stuff" could be is in "C:/Windows", but using WinDirStat doesn't show any abnormally large files or folders. Please, does anyone more knowledgable than I know if it's normal for Windows to grow with time?

Fresh Installation Of Windows 7 Taking Long Time O Boot?

Apr 8, 2011

I have Dell Inspiron N5010 laptop, Intel core i3 2 GB ram and 320 gb hardrive. I was running windows 7 home bsic edition 32bit on it.Everything was going fine. Then I saw some files in my E: drive with the .dll exension which i think were reated to the microsoft visual C++ enviroment and i deleted them .Lap top was sill running fine. But when I shut it down and turned on again it gave an error on startup that "one or more peripheral devices may have been removed imporperly". So I formaed my C: drive, where windows was installed and re-installed windows 7 basic 32 bit. Bu even a fresh copy of windows was taking 5 to 6 minutes to boot up after the "windows is starting screen" but eventually it did start. when I tried installing my drivers it gave an error that the drivers are not supported by this system.

And I know the drivers are the correct one because I have used them before with this same windows and same laptop. So I again formatted my C: drive and this time installed windows 7 ultimate 64 bit. But the problem is same it takes 5 to 6 minutes on the "windows is starting screen" and then eventully starts up. And I ran "HDTune" software to see if if my hardrive was okay....and it gave no errors. I even set my bios to "restore default setings" but still no luck.I even tried disk de-fragmenation.....and yeah the drivers wont install even in the windows 7 ultimte 64 bit edition.

Unusually Long Installation Time At Certain Points?

Apr 25, 2011

I've installed operating systems hundreds (if not, thousands) of times. I've installed Windows 7 at least 75 times.... this is the first time I've ever run into this problem.I put the usb drive in to install > setup loads files > brings up blue install screen > HUGE wait time, 5 minutes > Brings up install screen >next> install> HUGE wait time.... 10-15 minutes > next> next> partition HD blah blah> installs quickly> reboots two times while doing various things > gets to "Preparing your computer for its first whatever" HUGE wait time... like I waited 3 hours... then went to bed. This morning.. it's ready. Now, of course, when I first experienced these wait times, I never waited. I tried installing from a cd, I tried downloading a different cd to install from, I removed hard drives and tried to install on a different one, I tested the cpu, ram, hd's, usb drive, cds, usb ports, cd rom.... I just can't figure out what the hell took it so long.

Installing SP1 - Each Time After Installation, Computer Crash-down

Jan 1, 2012

I tried to install windows 7 home premium SP1 (kb976932) 5 times already. Each time, after the installation was finished, I was asked to restart the computer. After I've restarted, windows started running and then the screen just went black and the computer stopped responding. I had to go to the last restoration point, which cancelled the installation. What to do?

Change Time To Display OS From Installation Disk Command Prompt

Jan 11, 2011

I was stupid enough to manually delete my acronis files when I couldn't uninstall it the ordinary way.

Now windows 7 gives a short BSOD after logo and computer restarts. Startup repair doesn't fix the problem, neither from my windows 7 usb or from laptop, I have tried it several times.

I don't have any system restore created. I don't have any system image either to restore to either.

I really don't want to do a clean install again and wanted to try to do a repair upgrade, the problem is I can't boot into windows to begin with, and this seems to be needed to do a repair upgrade. When I try to do it from the USB it says I need to boot into windows first.

Is there a way to start the repair upgrade without having to boot into windows?

When I press F8 I don't get the options of safe mode, probably because I set the "time to display list of os to 0". Since I can't boot into windows 7 I can't change this above 0. Is there a a way to set this time above 0 from command prompt from my windows 7 installation usb?

Say The Time Date/Time Field In Task Tray Doesn't Launch Menu

Apr 26, 2011

About a month after I started using it, the Say the Time clock program I bought stopped launching the management menu when I right click the date/time field in the task tray (notification area).

Therefore, I can't use or edit the program. Neither the touchpad nor the cordless mouse works.

Other than this problem, my computer works great. Every single item that's meant to be right clicked works for me.

Is there a way I can generate a log to show the software manufacturer (Provenio) that it's their problem and not mine? I am a novice user but I can follow instructions. However, I don't want to put my computer at risk if I make an entry error.

I've been using computers for 18 years and I've never had this problem until I bought this software and used it for about a month.

I just wanted a conclusive way of putting the ball back in the manufacturer's court.

System Time Not Kept Correctly After Having Manually Changed BIOS Time

Apr 23, 2012

I spilt some water on my laptop a few days ago but fortunately it's completely dried out and working perfectly.... apart from this minor (but important) issue.

Problem: the system time does not stay correct. Even after manually updating the BIOS time and also even after manually syncing it with the various servers available under the time options.

Fix: set the internet time sync interval to every minute rather than its default setting? How do I do this?

P.S. This couldn't be a CMOS battery issue surely because even when the system is on and plugged in the system time still deviates from correct. (I assume the CMOS battery is only used when the system is powered off.) If I need it replaced, how does that sit with my Dell hardware warranty?

Dell I620 Desktop Freezes (locks) Up From Time To Time?

Jan 14, 2012

So I bought a new desktop computer about 2 weeks ago and ever since I got it, it's been freezing (locking) up on me at random times. I currently use Windows 7 64-bit. I put in a new graphics card and new memory sticks just the other day and I got the same freezing problem. It's very random. I can be surfing the web and the next thing you know, the whole thing freezes up. I can't move the mouse. Can't do CTRL ALT DEL. Can't do anything. Seems as if the whole computer locks up. The only way to restart the computer is by manually holding in the power button for a few seconds. So since I replaced graphics card and installed new memory, I was thinking it may be something else causing this.

Asus P9x79 Ssd Installation With New Installation Of Windows 7 Pro?

May 16, 2012

So i have a new SSD Corsair Force 3 240 gig and all I want to do is install Windows 7 Pro on it. This board does not support parted magic (cannot wake from sleep and there are no onboard video to wake up to) so ive resorted to clean all.I have not been able to successfully boot the OS on the SSD. I never intended on setting up raid but apparently all the literature i see is on raid. I created a USB install disk as reccomended onto a 8gig ntfs primary active did the bootsect /nt60 X: and it successfully worked copied the cd over to the flash drive and copied the rste drivers in a folder called drivers My SSD is installed on port 1 6gig sata intel (as this board doesnt have marvel apparrently) My DVD is installed on 3gig Sata port 6 I set up Raid in the bios as reccomended by others (as this is the only way to install ssd?).

Nothing UEFI is enabled There are no other drives hooked up to the computer. Just SSD, USB cordless mouse, keyboard and no network cord or WIFI i started with a clean ssd as reccomended my bios recognized the ssd on post i booted into the win 7 install (MBR not uefi) i loaded the 64 bit rste drivers from asus as reccomended by others i left the machine to install the usb then booted into windows install (for whatever reason) i pushed f8 to boot my corsair windows brings up an error on a black screen File: windows/system32/drivers/adpahci.sys driver did not load Status: oxc0000221 Info: Windows Failed to load because of a critical system driver is missing or corrupt

Installation Error: Setup Cannot Continue Due To A Corrupted Installation File

Sep 13, 2009

I am installing Windows 7 (Custom installation initiated from Windows XP) but I get the following error message when the installation is on the "Installing updates" step of the installation:

"Setup cannot continue due to a corrupted installation file. Contact the vendor of your Windows installation disc or your system administrator for assistance."

Do you have any idea what the problem may be with the installation? Is there a way to see what file that may be corrupted?

I have tried to burn the DVD in low speed, but the error appears anyway. I have a MSI K8T Neo2-Fir mainboard and the Windows 7 upgrade advisor application says that my hardware is okay for upgrading.

"Windows Could Not Complete The Installation, To Install Windows On This Computer, Restart The Installation"

Apr 16, 2012

First, my laptop is a Aspire 5250-BZ853. I received it back in October, I think...may've been earlier. But anyhow, it was working just fine yesterday until I did a Windows Update. I had to restart, and it was fine again. But then it began running sluggishly slow, and just terrible overall so I restarted it once more and that was when the problems began.

This entire day, this has been driving me nuts. I have important files on here, and I backed up most on my external harddrive a bit ago but there were a few I missed and hadn't the chance to get (ironically enough the most important, papers and such.) At first, it said my password was wrong -- as if someone had changed it! I restarted it once more, thinking it an error or something, and did that again so I restarted it again. Finally, it worked but I think it logged me in as safe mode somehow. After that, it restarted on its own and began this loop. I did a LOT of searching on Google until finally someone suggested to someone else to try pressing "ALT + F10" I think it was as it was starting, and finally I made progress. Before that, it was just going into a constant rebooting loop and I couldn't even log into safe mode. Trying to reset it back to a time it was working was futile, because it said there was no recovery time there! So that shot that idea down. At last, I got somewhere.as well. I clicked the reset to factory settings, but still keep all the files (and they would be saved to "C:Backup" and I thought it had finally worked. But now as it reinstalls, I got an error saying something about how it needed to restart or something...so when I clicked "okay" it began again, and finally it all just came to a stop on "Windows could not complete the installation. To install Windows on this computer, restart the installation."

Windows 7 Time Gets Seriously Behind

Nov 2, 2012

I have a PC (Window 7 Ultimate x64 SP1) with a time keeping problem. When Win7 is running the internal time gets behind 5 seconds every 10 minutes. This is a serious lag. The problem is pretty consistent. The system synchronizes its time every 10 minutes(because it is so inaccurate) with the atomic time servers and every synchronization interval the time is behind 5 seconds with just a few miliseconds variation between synchronization intervals. This is not a hardware problem, because when I boot the same system into XP maintenance partition the time is accurate. Actually, it is a few miliseconds ahead every 10 minutes, so this proves that there is nothing wrong with the motherboard. The problem is in Windows 7. From what I learned the time is kept internally by counting the hardware timer "ticks", so somehow Windows 7 is missing a lot of those ticks, while XP is OK in this respect. This problem happens regardless if W32Time service is running or not.
