Windows 7 Start Up Error / Windows Will Not Load At All?
Dec 20, 2012
I turn on my computer and confronted with a screen that reads, "Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause. It then displays two options: "Launch Start Up repair" or "Start Windows Normally." Regardless of which one I choose, the monitor ends up going blank a few seconds later after a loading bar or Windows logo. Nothing happens after that, just blackness on the monitor. I have tried going into the F8 options, and unfortunately none of them appear to be working. Safe mode, Low resolution, Repair your computer, and all others seem to fail. I have misplaced my Windows 7 Discs in the process of moving from one house to another and I am unable to get to the discs for a recovery.

COD 4 and/or COD will not load or start in win7 Professional. Both set to run as admin. Windows updated. Nvida GF 650 is video card. Will not load either Singleplayer or Mutli-player. I recently put this PC togeter so Win7 is a new install. I have no problems with running other programs, videos or music. Why Activison?

I have been trying to use the installer dvd to try and repair windows. At the screen where I can select to load drivers, I don't see an option from the place that says "Select an operating system that you want to repair". I hit next, and I go the startup repair from recovery tools. Every time I run the tool, I get a message that says that the tool may have completed successfully, reboot to find out

My Dell Studio 17 shut down yesterday after sitting idle. Now i cannot boot windows. I get this endless loop that ultimately leads me to startup repair which either hangs or errors out. Attempting to start in safe mode takes me to same place.I know the root of the problem is bsod as I see it flash when attempting to load windows.I was able to launch system restore tool from advanced options (f8) but after selecting restore point the cpu seems to hang after over an hour of Initalizing.I can bring up command prompt by the way.

The only executable program I can run is Internet Explorer 64-bit. All other programs do not open when I click them - either the shortcut or the icon in the folder. This includes all Microsoft Office programs, AntiVirus programs, Firefox, etc. When I click the program, the timing circle comes up next to the cursor for a couple seconds, then disappears. I've tried looking at task manager when I click the program. For many programs (not all), the task process shows up in "Processes" tab for a second, then disappears. The program never shows up under tasks in the "Applications" tab of Task Manager. For some programs (mostly MS Office) I get a prompt "There was a problem sending the command to the program". Windows/Programs I can open: Windows Explorer (for My Compter, My Documents, etc.), 64-bit IE, Wordpad.
Methods I've already tried:
1. Restart, both cold Windows restart, and restart in Safe Mode with Networking.
1. Removing all startup items using msconfig window. Even when all were removed, I can't open any programs.
3. Using Cntl-Alt-Delete to correct windows file associations. typed in "assoc .exe=exefile.
2. Restoring default registry files. Direction was taken from here:
This problem started after I tried to remove an Antivirus2010 bug. I followed the instructions found here and then tried Adaware to remove any additional spyware. My thought is I screwed something up when replacing the HOSTS file, or I removed something I shouldn't have using the AdAware anti-spyware program.

I was on the internet using my laptop when it just quit and shut down. Now I have this problem with progams not loading. I cannot load most of my programs from either icons or start menu, I am only able to get on the internet with IE 64 bit loaded from the start menu.I haven't downloaded or made any changes. I seldom use this computer for anything but email and internet access.

I'm not sure where to even begin to fix these problems. Some online searches suggested doing a system repair but I want to get some more feedback here before proceeding. Here is the message from the event log:The following boot-start or system-start driver(s) failed to load:
AFD
cmdGuard
cmdHlp
CSC
DfsC
discache
ElbyCDIO
[code]...
I realized some of these are not Windows 7 related but most are. While the computer "works", I do experience frequent reboots and freezes. Perhaps some of these driver loading failures are part of the cause of my issues.

I've decided to try and format my laptop today, however I have a frustrating error that keeps occurring and I don't really know what to do.I have an ASUS U43JC laptop. When I purchased the laptop, it didn't come with any CD/DVD's. I've tried to install some of the drivers from the ASUS website, with some of them saying I needed to download the x64 version because what I had downloaded was x32 (even though I'm pretty sure I downloaded the x64 file...).
There's one file that I had downloaded, yet I'm not sure what to do with it; it's called U43Jc.216. Anyhow, this is the error that pops up when I'm trying to reinstall Windows 7: "A required CD/DVD drive device driver is missing. If you have a driver floppy disk, CD, DVD or USB flash drive, please insert it now." If the Windows installation media is in the CD/DVD drive, you can safely remove it for this step.

I was checking emails today and I got a blue screen of death on Windows 7. I didn't take a screen capture, however the error message had to do with winSys32.exe, and then the usually memory dump messages. I rebooted into safe mode and tried running Spybot, but it came up with an error, so I downloaded and ran Malwarebytes anti-malware. It found 5 problems and I deleted them. I then ran Avast and it found no infections. Figuring it was a malware problem, I rebooted. Now Windows won't load. It gets to the Welcome screen, then goes to a blank black screen, with a mouse cursor. The cursor can be moved. I powered down the computer, pulled the battery, and booted it back up. This time I got a black screen, saying my disks had to be checked for inconsistencies. I ran the scan and it found no errors. Windows started to load, then stopped at the blank black screen again. I have my laptop set up with Ubuntu 11.04 on a sperate partion and I have not any problems with it, so I think the issue is related just to Windows, not hardware. My laptop is an Asus g72g, with an Intel Core 2 duo processor @ 2.53ghz, 6 gigs of ram and an Nvidia graphic card. Other then adding Ubuntu I have not done any upgrades to the system. Windows 7 was a installed at the factory, not an upgrade, and I haven't added any software in 6 months or so.

Ran Windows Update on wife's computer today (Biostar A75-MH mobo, AMD A8-3850, 8Gb DDR3-1600, 64Gb Samsung 830 SSD boot drive, Win7 x64) and upon restart it froze at 35% installing the updates. After it did nothing for 30 min I rebooted. It boots to the desktop but with an error box saying failed to load sortbls.nlp. Explorer isn't working, can run any programs, Start menu won't come up, just sits with the blue circle spinning. Tried to run system restore but the 11-15 one disappeared from the list when I tried to run it and now just shows the only restore point as Windows Update Critical Update from today which fails. Startup Repair says no problems.

i have a dell inspiron 1545 installed with windows 7. I started it this morning and installed the latest version of free AVAST virus protection which then told me to restart the computer. So after doing this, It didn't load properly after taking my password and came up with a blank screen. So i manually turned my computer off after having waited for it to load (which it never did) now when i turn it on it comes up with the 'windows error recovery' screen. I have tried every alternative way of booting it up including 'safe mode' all which didn't work and the screen ended up blank every time. I must have tried it at least 15 times but still had no joy.is there anything i can do without taking the computer to pieces?

I want to remove my optical drive (ASUS dvd/rw) as I never use it, however after I disconnected it Windows wont load. It begins to load and then flashes a blue screen and restarts. If I plug my optical drive back in everything is boots up fine. how I can remove my drive and still be able to boot?
Things I have tried (with no success):
- Disabling and uninstalling the drive from the control panel
- checking boot priority (SSD is my boot drive), optical drive is now completely removed from boot sequence in BIOS (it was 3rd)
In windows repair (following the restart from blue screen) I found this:
Root cause found recent driver installation or uprgrade may be preventing the system from starting Repair Action: system files integrity check and repair Result: Failed Error Code: 0x490

I'm trying to get a Toshiba satellite L300D to start Win-7. It gives an error message:
"An error occurred while attempting to read the boot configuration data"
Not really sure what that means, but my guess is thats a file that it isn't finding. My pic isn't very clear, the Status is 0xc000000f, again not sure what that means. This machine has been running and well behaved for a long time.

I'm trying to get my nephew's laptop (acer aspire 5749) to boot up (apparently battery ran out during shutdown and not worked since) - on power up it gives the option to repair or start as normal. Repair takes you (eventually) to a grey screen with wavy ribbons at the top, a moveable mouse cursor but nothing else happens (even after leaving it for 24 hours). "Start windows normally" takes you to the loading windows screen, then it reboots itself (and the repair options come up again...).
Have booted with a windows repair cd but the same grey screen/wavy ribbons thing happens again and nothing happens (even after leaving it 24 hours).
Booting into safe mode gives no joy either and stops the boot up process during the drivers loading up. It used to stop at one of the AVG drivers so I used the AVG repair utility (midnight commander) to rename all the AVG stuff but then it just stops at another driver instead (now it stops at classpnp.sys).
I've done the memory check on the AVG disk which passes fine so I'm guessing I need to run some checks on the hard disk itself. I've just downloaded the Ultimate Boot CD ( Ultimate Boot CD - Overview ) but don't know which of the utilities you'd recommend I try first?

I've recently been having trouble with my computer. I turned it off one day, and when I tried to turn it back on the computer would never start. It would say loading windows, and it had the windows logo and everything, but then it would just stop. I tried to go through safe mode but that wouldn't load either. So I tried using my repair disks, but the repair disks won't load up either. I went into BIOS and made it so it would boot from the CD first, but... nothing. It just goes to this grey screen with that sweepy background graphic you get when you first get windows, and does nothing.I have a laptop, Windows 7 64 bit.

I have a new monitor, and also a new USB to RS 2343 converter cable that both came with a CD that apparently has Drivers for the devices on them.
They don't start automatically in auto-play to load, and my reading of the file labels in the CD makes no sense to me.
So, with the CD in the drive just sitting there, what do I do to actually get the PC to recognize the Drivers in the Folder(s), and load them in the appropriate places ?

I dont know if this is posted in the right area but I'm so desperate to get my laptop working its unreal. First it started off with my laptop crashing, I had totally forgot it needed to do a windows update and turned off my laptop in hopes that it would work properly. After that my laptop has not been working. The machine turns on and gives me two options. Start windows normally or do a repair. Upon starting windows normally, it loads so far before sending me back to the two options of start windows normally or repair. On the second time I clicked repair. My laptop then goes so far before presenting me with a blue screen that is usually the screen where my accounts are. The cursor still moves but it loads no further even after leaving it an hour. I decided to make a repair disk, hoping that the problem was because of windows. the disk loads, gives me a choice on the keyboard language then does nothing. I honestly have no idea what to do, I want to keep all the files safe on my computer as I havent backed them up and I have worked so hard on the projects.

I have built a nice machine on RC1 64 bit Windows 7. Like it lots - but I keep getting two identical errors on start up which I know how to solve in xp or vista but not windows 7.On start up I get two idential pop up windows that say Run Time Error 339 mswinsck.ocx is not registered. Of course it isn't as I don't think it exists in Windows 7. Normally I would use regsvr32 to register it but Windows complains that it isn't compatible. I have tried uninstalling most of my applications (mostly 32 bit stuff like Office 2007) but can't seem to find the one that is causing it. I have looked in the event viewer and can see no mention of the error and also turned on boot logging and looked at the log, again no joy.

I recently built a new computer and on occasion when I turn the computer on, I'll get a blue screen saying windows failed to load type thing, and then it restarts and i have to recover. Now the weird thing is it doesn't happen all the time It more often than not doesn't work, but still there will be times where it works all day. I can't figure out why it works sometimes and not others. I don't do anything different, just facebook and Star Wars the Old Republic, so I don't think its a program which is causing the issue. I have a pc running Windows 7 64bit and for a week or two I have been having problems openeing Windows Explorer to view files etc. The first time I tried to open it, it would shutdown saying "Windows Explorer ash stopped working", but then when I tried again it worked. This was annoying but at least I could access my files to copy photos etc.
Today when I try to open it, I get an error saying "Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library. This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way. Please contact the applications support team for more information"
It comes up with this and then shuts explorer down, and everytime I do this I get the same. I have tried to access it through all the user accounts and get the same thing each time.
I have done a virus/malware check (I used Malwarebytes, AVG, and AdAware) and everything seems ok there, and I did a sfc/scannow (?) and that said everything was ok.

Last night before I went to bed there was a Windows update, and this morning when I turned the pc on, it just went to this screen saying that something was wrong and i needed to repair. I clicked the repair box, but it didn't wanna do that. So I went into the system recovery tool to go back to (the only restore point) which is yesterday, but when I try and do that, it says "Details: An unspecified error occurred during System Restore. I don't know alot about computers, and I'm currently writing this on my laptop, since I can't enter my computer in any way
