new HP computer that the internet was installed on this last week. The phone guy hooking it up got on his computer and said he was all set. He went to turn on computer on gets a blue screen with the window 7 icon but it is frozen on there and he can't get anything else to come up on the screen.
View 3 RepliesThe only executable program I can run is Internet Explorer 64-bit. All other programs do not open when I click them - either the shortcut or the icon in the folder.This includes all Microsoft Office programs, AntiVirus programs, Firefox, etc. When I click the program, the timing circle comes up next to the cursor for a couple seconds, then disappears. I've tried looking at task manager when I click the program. For many programs (not all), the task process shows up in "Processes" tab for a second, then disappears. The program never shows up under tasks in the "Applications" tab of Task Manager.For some programs (mostly MS Office) I get a prompt "There was a problem sending the command to the program". Windows/Programs I can open: Windows Explorer (for My Compter, My Documents, etc.), 64-bit IE, Wordpad.
Methods I've already tried:
1. Restart, both cold Windows restart, and restart in Safe Mode with Networking.
1. Removing all startup items using msconfig window. Even when all were removed, I can't open any programs.
3. Using Cntl-Alt-Delete to correct windows file associations. typed in "assoc .exe=exefile.

This problem started after I tried to remove an Antivirus2010 bug. I followed the instructions found here and then tried Adaware to remove any additional spyware. My thought is I screwed something up when replacing the HOSTS file, or I removed something I shouldn't have using the AdAware anti-spyware program.
I was on the internet using my laptop when it just quit and shut down. Now I have this problem with progams not loading. I cannot load most of my programs from either icons or start menu, I am only able to get on the internet with IE 64 bit loaded from the start menu.I haven't downloaded or made any changes. I seldom use this computer for anything but email and internet access.

Log files show below that 4 things failed to load. Tuesday couldn't boot up PC again.. tried to restart like 4-5 times.. Finally comes up and in the logs there's numerous things that failed to load. Running a sfc /scannow right now.

I realized some of these are not Windows 7 related but most are. While the computer "works", I do experience frequent reboots and freezes. Perhaps some of these driver loading failures are part of the cause of my issues.

What everybody wants is to sum their internet links, what I want is kinda different...I have two Internet links here, one 10Mbit cable and other 4Mbit ADSL.What I want is a way to make some programs use the 10Mbit and others use the 4Mbit.For example, force all the games to use the 4Mbit link, uTorrent and Firefox to 10Mbit link.

I get this endless loop that ultimately leads me to startup repair which either hangs or errors out. Attempting to start in safe mode takes me to same place.I know the root of the problem is bsod as I see it flash when attempting to load windows.I was able to launch system restore tool from advanced options (f8) but after selecting restore point the cpu seems to hang after over an hour of Initalizing.I can bring up command prompt by the way.

View 9 Replies View RelatedEvery time I start up normally into Win7 everything is fine for a couple of minutes. I'll open a few programs, then after a few minutes of them running they'll hang and enter the 'not responding' mode. (firefox, steam, IE). If I don't already have task manager running the system will basically be unresponsive and the only thing I can do is reboot manually. If I have task manager running I can sometimes end a process or two but some will remain open & unresponsive. Any programs that are working (including task manager) disappear when I minimize them and no programs appear on the task bar, (though they can be retrieved with alt+tab).
McAfee also has 'real time scanning' permanently disabled.
This is all very strange as there was nothing wrong four days ago when I was away, and the symptoms occured within 2-3 minutes of booting up this evening. The system runs in safe mode.
Windows froze(windows 7-64 bit) and I powered off the computer and powered up Windows loaded until the colored flag came up and stuck at that point. Have tried to repair and use a good restore point, but no joy. Sticks at same point.Used windows install disk to enter repair and tried to restore system, no joy, same sticking point.
View 10 Replies View RelatedWhen I start up my computer, my Steam starts up, then I manually start Chrome. Chrome comes up fine, Steam does too, but when I try to right click on Steam and click friends, all it does is create another steam process running at 100-108 K. Then if I close Chrome and try to reopen it, it will do the same. This happens with EVERY program after I start up. There's a 5 second window where I can open programs without issue, then after that it will only start 108 K copies of them. It takes me around 30 restarts just to get it working properly, if not more.

After about 7 boot attempts it starts to work which is surprising!
This problem started 2 days ago.. so I thought it was my OS problem and einstalled windows but the problem keeps coming back! I feel like the Windows update restarts are causing it or something! I have scanned my computer with malwarebytes and Avast with no results..

I have a problem whit startup programs. When I start Windows 7, sometimes some programs do not load at startup. It doesn�t happen all the time and it is not always the same program that doesn�t load, but it occurs randomly.
View 9 Replies View RelatedIf I click on All Programs and then on C drive, it'll open up with a blank page and then a green bar starts moving slowly across the top. When it gets to the end, it just sits there.Pictures, Games and Music do the same thing. Games is blank and no green bar. The CPU, according to the meter, is running at about 1 or 2 %. Checking with Task Manager, nothing else is running.The only way to get it to work, is to Log Off and then Log back on. It'll be OK for a while and then does it again.

I keep all my main operating system files on the ssd for faster boot up and accessing files faster. I keep all my game programs and files on the HDD b/c of the space. some games will load straight from the HDD but others will try to install themselves again on the SSD. Is there some way to go into regedit or somewhere else that can change it to where it just loads straight from the HDD without any problems?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI am currently running Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit and as of this morning whenever I startup my pc I have about a 10-30 second window maybe (sometimes even shorter) that I can actually get programs to open before my pc just seems to get very slow and nothing at all will open. For example things like ctrl+alt+del takes about 15 seconds before it just goes to a black screen and says the process cannot be completed, whenever I pull up the start menu it will freeze and nothing opens from there, and even trying to refresh the desktop or shutting down/restarting crashes it. I have gone into safe mode with networking to get on Chrome and try to find solutions but nothing has worked. I've ran a full system scan with Malwarebytes and the first time it found only one infection and I quarantined and removed it, but the problem still occurs.

All of a sudden, it wouldn't close my tabs in Firefox.Then it wouldn't open VLC Media Player, games, ... nothing. Not even the Configuration. The loading symbol comes on, then just goes away and nothing happens. View 2 Replies View RelatedI want to be able to restart Windows, by choice, either without startup programs running, or with startup programs running. The reason is that I have an old (~2001) Palm m105 PDA handheld that updates using Palm HotSync Manager via a USB/serial port cradle (Serial Port 6). It works very well and I don't have a need to replace it with something more up to date, but the problem is, when I try to run the hotsync while other programs are running, I get a Windows BSOD at some point before the hotsync finishes, I have to reboot every time, and the hotsync never finishes. However, I find that if I shut down almost every optional running program before running the hotsync, then I can run the hotsync to completion without the BSOD happening. As a workaround, to simplify things, I figure that when I'm ready to run the hotsync, if I reboot Windows to a state where no applications are running, I can run the hotsync and then reboot Windows back to its normal startup state, with all the normal startup programs running. This all seems very labor and time intensive regardless of how I do it.One way I thought of doing this more cleanly (though probably not saving any time) is to create another user account, with no startup programs, and run the hotsync from there, and switch between the two.
View 14 Replies View RelatedI just formatted my hard drive and reinstalled windows 7, everything went smooth and I updated everything with windows update. After it installed service pack 1 I couldnt start most programs that I have installed for example winamp, vlc and utorrent and thats all I have realised so far. If I just simply double click on one of those programs I get a process that is always 120k no matter which program and it will keep allowing you to click just making even more of these processes. I can get these programs to start if I run as administrator but when they start explorer crashes, I have tried searching the web but no-one else seems to have quite the same problem and I wouldnt have a clue as to what I could do to stop it.

This problem started about a month ago with Windows Live Messenger. Since then i had no problems until last week when my game recording program WeGame began to crash when i start it up. Now today one of my favourite games Counter Strike : Source has started having the same problem.When starting Windows Live Messenger i am given the Windows Live Messenger has stopped working.. then it closes.When starting WeGame it usually crashes when i log in, with the same error.When i start Counter Strike : Source it says Hl2.exe has stopped working and needs to close.I have tried running as an administrator, in compatablility mode, restarting computer, reinstalling all 3 programs, using CCleaner and Windows Cleaner, closing other applications, disabling antivirus, scanning for viruses and many other things.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to get my nephew's laptop (acer aspire 5749) to boot up (apparently battery ran out during shutdown and not worked since) - on power up it gives the option to repair or start as normal. Repair takes you (eventually) to a grey screen with wavy ribbons at the top, a moveable mouse cursor but nothing else happens (even after leaving it for 24 hours). "Start windows normally" takes you to the loading windows screen, then it reboots itself (and the repair options come up again...).
Have booted with a windows repair cd but the same grey screen/wavy ribbons thing happens again and nothing happens (even after leaving it 24 hours).
Booting into safe mode gives no joy either and stops the boot up process during the drivers loading up. It used to stop at one of the AVG drivers so I used the AVG repair utility (midnight commander) to rename all the AVG stuff but then it just stops at another driver instead (now it stops at classpnp.sys).
I've done the memory check on the AVG disk which passes fine so I'm guessing I need to run some checks on the hard disk itself. I've just downloaded the Ultimate Boot CD ( Ultimate Boot CD - Overview ) but don't know which of the utilities you'd recommend I try first?
I've recently been having trouble with my computer. I turned it off one day, and when I tried to turn it back on the computer would never start. It would say loading windows, and it had the windows logo and everything, but then it would just stop. I tried to go through safe mode but that wouldn't load either. So I tried using my repair disks, but the repair disks won't load up either. I went into BIOS and made it so it would boot from the CD first, but... nothing. It just goes to this grey screen with that sweepy background graphic you get when you first get windows, and does nothing.I have a laptop, Windows 7 64 bit.
