View 1 Replies View Relatedtoday I was cleaning around my computer area and well was dusting where my computer sits and I pushed it too far out and it fell and hit the ground. It was on too and the monitor lost signal even though the VGA cord was plugged in...Since I couldn't properly shut it off by going to start etc etc I just held the power button till it shutdown..I thought my video card got loose so I hit the kill switch unplugged it and checked everything, but it was all fine. When I plugged it back in,it turned on and well kinda lagged on start up,more than usual...I figured everything was fine until I shut it down and after it was off like 5 seconds later it turned on by itself?? I checked my motherboard and components for any damage or cracks but couldn't find anything. Now this I do not mind,i'm just afraid that it'll cause damage to my PC or cause my motherboard to fry or something because now in order to keep it off from starting byitself I have to shutdown then quickly hit the kill switch, sometimes I dont do it fast enough and the computer slightly turns on,too fast to stop me from switching it off. Also when I hit the killswitch to off and then switch it back on.the pc refuses to start itself until I push the ON button and shutdown again.

View 14 Replies View Relatedwindows 7 x64 on my laptop (intel core i5 @ 2.50ghz, 4 gb ram) has recently started freezing for a few seconds every few seconds, when i'm doing just about anything: browsing the web, copying files, using text redactor, etc. only the mouse cursor responds, control is back after a couple of seconds.
* the behaviour remains the same when booting in the safe mode
* there are no cpu or memory usage peaks in process explorer
* there are no hardware conflicts in device manager
* there are no critical errors in system log
* there is no antivirus active
* hardware tests (memory, etc.) do not report any errors
i suspect this has started after i've updated all the drivers from manufacturer's site, but i am not 100% sure. anyway, i do not know which driver has caused this and i cannot easily restore to the previous state.
I have a month-old Dell Inspiron N7010 Core i5 460M with 6 gigs of ram running on Windows 7. Until recently, it has been starting up in about 75 seconds. However, out of nowhere, it suddenly began starting up in between 2 and a half minutes to 3 minutes. I am completely baffled, and I do not know what is wrong. Could it have been something I installed, or is it something that is beyond my knowledge. The last things I downloaded before the problems started were Starcraft II, Need for Speed World, and Microsoft Security Essentials, but I doubt one of those is the source of problem.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a ASUS Laptop with Intel I3 processer and Windows 7 Home Premium. I recently had a forced shutdown during a Windows upgrade session. Ever since then the Boot and Shutdown times have increased to over 15 minutes. I have run the msconfig unticking all but the antivirus (Kaspersky) and it still takes >15 min to boot and Shutdown. Is there something I can do before I decide to reinstall Windows &. (I dont have a install disk.) The software came with the Computer and I have the OEM code (Bought at Best Buy)

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have two windows updates that keep failing. When i go to shutdown my computer I always have an update icon attached to the shutdown key. The download is always 1of1. Then when i reboot, the update icon is still there. I'm thinking since the two updates are failing, it has something to do with the 1of1 update not downloading properly. I went to windows update to check for new updates, and the only one is the two that keep failing. My computer just blue screened on shutdown today, winch got me thinking i really need to fix this.

View 2 Replies View RelatedIm not sure if this is in the right category, but I think it could be Windows 7 related. My Powersupply died the other day so I purchased a new one and all was fine, except when I shutdown it either freezes or carries on for what seems like forever. The only thing is that on bootup my DVD Drive and SSD have changed ports so my dvd drive is now device00 and my SSD001.

View 9 Replies View RelatedNo matter what I try I can see my Windows 7 machine in XP but can not even SEE my xp machine in Windows 7. I have the network Computer names the same on both computers "Workgroup". I have All firewalls completely turned off. I have all network sharing settings in the sharing center set correctly. The windows 7 machine just is not finding the computer. I am using a wireless network. I have a shared folder on the XP machine. I have ran the Network setup wizard on the XP machine that did absolutely nothing for it. I am able to see my XP machine from other XP machines with no problems and access the shared folder. I have figured out that it WILL get access to my shared folder in Windows 7 IF I manually type the IP number of the XP machine in the network explorer. It's just like Windows 7 is not able to read the name of my XP machine.

Rebooted a few times but it always failed at the same point.Tried rebooting and using the system restore and repair options. It did get past the initial error point, but failed again further on.Now it doesn't boot at all, I get the error of needing to plug in a bootable device.
View 3 Replies View RelatedIs there a way in Windows 7 to track when a computer is turned on and off? A log for the week would be great but I want to see each weekday when the computer is turned on and when it is turned off?
View 14 Replies View RelatedI was in the middle of playing skyrim when the screen went black, and came up with a message "not support" which only happens when the computer goes to sleep. I rebooted and the screen turned green and fuzzy, when trying to start windows normally, right after the windows boot logo (which can't be recognized but the text can) the screen goes black and doesn't go any further. My b/f thought it *might* be just the new graphics card he had installed 3 days ago, so I removed it. No change.
I tried to start up in safe mode (loaded completely to the desktop), and that worked but everything is still green and fuzzy. After about 2 minutes in safe mode, the screen will cut to black for a few seconds, come back to the desktop, back and forth. My next thought was heat, everything is running perfect and nothing is hot. This computer was upgraded last week; Windows 7 Ultimate, the ram, motherboard, and graphics card are brand new. Processor is a year old, and the power supply is roughly 2 years.
All hardware specifications that I know are on my profile. All parts were bought from newegg. There is no POST coding (beeps) so there doesn't seem to be loading problems. Maybe CPU problems? But I would figure it wouldn't start at all on safe mode, if the processor was out, or can it slowly go out? I've never came across a problem like this, there have been times the green fuzzy screen would happen at the very beginning of starting up, but would clear up within 2 seconds. I've already been looking at new processors if that's the problem.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI had a Mac laptop that MB crashed. I had a 3rd party turn the HD into an external drive for me so that I could access the data from it. However, when trying to hook it up to my Windows 7 pc, it is not showing in Win Explorer. After reading a few posts, a lot of people are recommending reformatting or other options that I'm afraid will destroy the data. The drive is shown in my Disk Management window as "Basic", "Healthy" and "Online", just no Drive letter?

Windows is installed on my SSD drive not my external.
I am on Windows 7 x64. Today I turned my computer on and it stopped at the "Windows Error Recovery". From the 2 options given I chose "Start Windows Normally". After pressing Enter it will not go beyond the black screen where it says "Starting Windows" and immediately reboots to the "Windows Error Recovery" again. I then chose the other option which is "Launch Startup Repair", entered the Disk, wait for it to load system files but it reboots to the Disk loading the files again like an eternal loop. Tried the F8 Advance booting options, chose "boot in safe mode with command prompt", it starts loading but then it reboots itself again!!
My system specs are these:

I'm having an issue with my Windows 7 machine where it occasionally seems to freeze up for about 10-15 seconds. My mouse still works, but whatever software I have running, whether it be IE9, MS Outlook, Quicken, or pretty much anything else, will freeze for a few seconds. If I sit there and wait, the cursor will return and everything will be like normal again. I've tried to pin down some consistency with the problem, as in it happens every time I do...such-and-such. No such luck. it seems to happen randomly.I've tried to see what could be running in the background and turned off things, even such things as my antivirus, and nothing seems to help. I'm starting to be concerned that it could be memory or maybe processor. Is there a monitoring program, or diagnositic utility that anyone could recommend that would help me pin this down?
