I just got some virus that im assuming is either scareware or ransomware that prompted me to buy some windows 7 recovery bs. I managed to remove the virus, i think so at least, with Malewarebytes software but now all my programs are gone.

View 4 Replies View RelatedMy son downloaded Windows 7 Recovery (virus) this weekend. I have Windows 7. I searched for the solution and it was suggested in a forum Grindsoft Trojan Killer.I downloaded that and it worked. It showed the hidden documents, programs and photos etc. I then ran Windows restore for a date much before the virus and that restored a almost normal computer. It seems I can do everything...have not checked everything but so far everything looks good but I am unable to do a Windows update.I get an error code 80070005. It acts like it is unable to access Microsoft. I have gone to the control panel-trouble shooter-windows update and it said it repaired it but still the same problem. I have done many scans with Malwarebytes, Online Norton and more of the Grindsoft Trojan Killer and everything comes up clean. I seems that I am hopefully down to this windows update problem

A client of mine (I'm an IT summer temp in a production facility) recently contracted the Windows 7 Recovery virus and contacted me to fix it. Having encountered the XP version recently and resolved the issue, I was able to easily remove the virus and associated rootkit. The difference this time was that unhide.exe failed to restore the start>all programs menu shortcuts, although it did manage to restore the folder structure. I read through and followed the instructions of another thread here: [URL]. Which did not resolve the issue. The output given by SystemLook is as follows:

A week ago my computer crashed after my dad used it. It ran a System Fix which was a virus and a program I don't remember installing. Now when it boots it has a black screen that says Windows Memory Error and gives two options, Start Windows Recovery or Start Windows Normally. When he realized what he had done he tried the recovery tool first. It had a Windows is Loading files bar that didn't move at all so he left it on all night. It never moved, so he tried option 2 it brought up the 5 Recovery tools none of them did anything helpful. We tried using safe mode, it doesn't work either, brings back to useless Windows Recovery tools. We went out and Bought an OEM since the person we bought this from forgot to give us the Install Discs, We got to Repair Your Computer option below Install, it said our version of windows wasn't the right version for the OEM so it was a waste of $200. Now I am stuck and out of ideas. I've hooked the harddrives up to our old Windows XP and virus scanned, check disced, and backed up them. how to recover and repair without reformatting/wiping the HDD?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have Unallocated space at the very end of my hard drive, even after the 25gb Recovery Partition, this is due to copying my old hard drive onto this new one via Clonezilla, and it automatically keeping the unallocated space at the end. Can I either move the unallocated space around the Recovery Partition, or delete the Recovery Partition altogether? Sorry if I am being a little unclear.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI've gotten to the point where I need to just reinstall windows completely on my Asus G74SX (too many problems, I want to start fresh.). I encounter an error 1029 with Asus's recovery disks that I made when I had windows working: it says it is recovering all the way to 100% then doesnt work. I am in the process of trying it again so I'll see if it actually managed to wipe my hard drive like it said it was doing, and maybe if it did actually work and reinstall windows.However, I'd like to be able to get into the recovery partition because I would prefer restoring it with Asus as they recommend me to. However, when I hit F9, their target to get there, it doesn't do anything and just reloads the boot screen, with the Asus logo on it. I don't have an actual Wndows recovery CD so that's not an option, and at this point since my hard drive has likely been wiped by these recovery DVDs, I don't think going into Ubuntu and fixing the MBR will do me much good anymore.It may be worth noting that before I last restarted, I marked the Windows partition as active because of a tutorial here, making it so that recovery partition isn't active anymore.

I restarted the computer, was welcomed by the Asus menu screen first and then when it goes to load windows, it says "loading windows files" and then goes to the automatic repair feature. It says corrupt file in problem details and proceeds to conclude that it can't fix it. In the advanced features, I have tried the startup repair with no luck, the system restore with no luck - tried all restore points listed and after many many 30 min intervals, it comes back that it cannot restore to the previous state. There are no disk images and no memory problems. Command Prompt will run (although one time it did not and simply shut down). I booted from DVD and tried repair from that with no more luck than before, however, did find it strange that when it looked for the windows installation it found one called windows and one called Microsoft Windows - same partition size, all details the same, not sure what's up with that.
I followed the info under Windows cannot start/.exe files cannot run forum up until ubunto is concerned something about the cd and usb running I can get it to make the mbr.bin file but can't get it to recognize the usb to put it on to check it out or the balance of what's next? Also, at the Automatic System repair it reads:

It doesn't identify an actual corrupt file name it says it can't determine the root of the problem.Tried to run Windows 7 upgrade from the disk but because I'm not in windows that won't work and also because I'm running SP1 and I don't have the disk for SP1.I've downloaded Unetbootin and Ubontu but don't know how to work them to get things fixed I've also tried unloading the windows update cache but still nothing because prior to this problem it was failing on all windows updates and have noticed other people comment that that was their problem - still no luck.

I have a virus that has made it so I cannot make backup restore discs, system restore or anything. View 4 Replies View RelatedI've been trying to remove the Windows 7 Security 2012 virus, and I've been trying to follow the steps to rid my computer of this wretched virus, but when I run rkill or malware-bytes, my computer blue screens, I'm not sure what the error is, for my computer restarts quite soon afterwards.Since I can't run either of those programs, how am I supposed to get rid of this virus? I've never had this problem before, but since yesterday I've been encountering these blue screens.Should I just reformat? Is my RAM defective? Is it another program or virus causing this to happen?

After some time of use, (sometimes this starts right away, sometimes it doesn't) when I am using iexplorer, whatever tab I am on, it starts clicking back wards through the previously visited pages until it comes to rest at my home page. If I click to one of the other open tabs, it does the same.I also have the windows sound "device disconnect" sounding every 30 seconds or so. I stared out resolving this problem in the virus forum but after working through that, it has been determined it is not an infection.

as the post title suggests, i have had system problems since removing Antimalware Doctor. no trace of the virus seems to be on my computer but i still get the error message that Windows Explorer has stopped working. i have read other threads and followed the instructions as well as trying the suggestion of sfc.exe but when i try to open sfc.exe a CMD window pops up for a split second then quits and nothing else appears to happen. is there anything else i can try?
View 8 Replies View RelatedI have had the generic.win virus on my computer for a while now due to my anti virus program not being able to remove it. It has been causing internet browsing issues specifically with google and other search engines. However I believe that the virus has corrupted my "Windows repair tool" that is required to reformat my system. I start my computer and hold F8 to bring up the menu and select the repair computer option and it brings me to the menu where I can either "start windows normally" or run system repair tool.
When I try to run the system repair tool I know it is supposed to bring me to a menu to select language and what not and ultimately restore my computer. Unfortunately it just returns to the normal boot up and repair option over and over upon selecting the option. I just want a virus free computer. My system is a dell inspirion running 64 bit windows 7. I have backed up all the files.
